Remember the path where I last saved my document

Hi,
in OS X 10.4, the computer remembered the path to the location on the server where I last saved my document. Now, in leopard, when I open several documents, I have to set the path each time if I want to save the documents into a new location. Is there a way to change that?
Just in case the problem is not clear:
I open a document from the server which is located in file No. 1 and save it into file No. 2. If I open another document from file No.1 and I want to save it, the app offers to save it to file No.1 NOT No.2 (hich was the last file I used as destination). I would like to set it, that it remembers the last file.
Regards
Frank

This is the appropriate behavior.. Most email programs (browsers too) store attachments (or files) in a cache area. You then need to do a save as to more them to a different location. The plug-in is finding the pdf in the location determined by the email program, so that is the last place the plug-in used. It doesn’t have a different location to use.

  • Terminal Command, how to set defaults write, make application(s) use directory path where file last saved?

    Does anyone know whether there's a terminal command to make all applications remember/use the last directory/path where I last saved a file?
    For example, let's say there are (10) ten PDF's on a website, and I want to use Preview.app to open and save each file to the same directory.
    Problem is, after each time I save a file, Preview.app doesn't automatically remember/use the last directory where I saved my file(s).
    Forcing me to navigate back to the same directory after each time I save a file; super-annoying.
    But, for some reason, when saving images from the web, Firefox remembers the last directory where I saved the file (jpeg).
    So I'm hoping there's some way, possibly a terminal command to set/force all applications (including Preview.app) to remember/use the directory/path where file(s) were last-saved.
    Anyone?

    Get the third-party utility Default Folder X 4.4.9.

  • Retrieving the path where file is saved

    Hi Experts!
    My problem is this:  I am currently using the fm 'DOWNLOAD' to save the my smartform output into PDF.  However, I need to issue a message that the file was saved in the folder path that the user selected.  This can be different from what I defaulted.  Is there a way to retrieve this information?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Try This:
    Declare a variable of type LOCALFILE. and Get the the value of ACT_FILENAME parameter from the 'DOWNLOAD' func module.
    Use the following code in after the 'DOWNLOAD' function module.
    DATA: path type LOCALFILE.
    Path = v_ACT_FILENAME.
    If sy-subrc = 0.
       Message path type 'I'.
    endif.
    Reward points if helpful answer.

    The way that Dropbox works is that it keeps a copy of all your files in your local Dropbox folder on your hard drive (which is, by default, directly under your home folder). Adding files to that folder will sync them to the Dropbox server.
    You do of course have to download the Dropbox application to enable this (download link at the top right of http://dropbox.com ).

  • When I tried to back up my computer, Time Machine says 'an error occurred while creating the backup folder.' When I check the side of the partition where I manually saved old files, the folders are there, but NONE of the files are.

    I haven't backed up my computer in over a year. When I tried to back it up today, Time Machine says 'an error occurred while creating the backup folder.' When I check the side of the partition where I manually saved old photos and documents (including all the pictures from the year I studied abroad/traveled a bunch), the folders are there, but NONE of the files are.
    Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be, or how I could fix it? I really don't want to lose all those photos

    So you were doing a time machine backup to another partition on the same hard drive? Just trying to gather some information so i can provide a helpful response.

    Hi,
    Please check this.
    DATA: DIR TYPE STRING.
    CALL METHOD CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>DIRECTORY_BROWSE
      EXPORTING
        WINDOW_TITLE         = 'Select Folder'
        INITIAL_FOLDER       = 'C:'
      CHANGING
        SELECTED_FOLDER      = DIR
      EXCEPTIONS
        CNTL_ERROR           = 1
        ERROR_NO_GUI         = 2
        NOT_SUPPORTED_BY_GUI = 3
        others               = 4.
    Now that you have the directory, you can add the filename and save to the location.

    since upgrading to Lion, i am unable to take screen shots.  i get the message that i don't have permission to save files to the place where SSs are saved.  how can i regain the ability to save screen shots?  thanks

    First of all, are you using the OS native screen capture?
    If not, make sure the application you're using has been update for Lion.  I was using Snapz Pro for years, but I need to update it for use with Lion. Meanwhile Grab and the keyboard shortcuts are working on my Lion load.
    If you are using the native capture mode unsuccessfully, I would run the Disk Utility and repair permissions on the drive. For some reason, even in past OS Versions, routine maintenance of permissions makes life a lot easier.

  • How to find the path where the program resides

    I need to use the path where the running program file resides.
    My purpose is to make a program where some parameters are in a separate file. I want to have it in the same directory as the .jar program is. This way I could start and run the program from a memory stick.
    Is there a way to get the program path?

    I want to buy the new iPod Nano to play audiobooks. Does it remember the postion where switch-off took place and resume from there? Can one rewind and replay freely?

    1. Many thanks! I look forward to your revert on being able to freely rewind and replay with the 7th Gen iPod Nano.
    2. Re resuming from the position where one left off - I meant after switch-off and not merely pause. Often, with audiobooks, I have to stop for the day, and resume maybe after 1-2 days. I'll be grateful if you can check this too
    3. The above features make the iPod Classic a joy to use, but I have reservations about using it on walks because of its HDD.
    4. Greatly appreciate the trouble you are taking. Best regards.

  • I receive PDFs attached to emails. When I open them and try to save them, it takes me to a temporary location on the C drive, and does not remember where I last saved a PDF.

    This happens on every PDF I open from an email. The PDF opens fine, but when I go to save it I end up in a temporary location, which bears no resemblance to the location I was last in when I had to navigate to it. I am saving documents on a network location.
    I am running Windows 7 SP1, and am using Adobe Reader 11.0.5
    Any help would be greatly appreciated,

  • My macbook pro does not remember the dates of when I saved files

    I have had my macbook pro since late may of 2010, but I recently noticed it has not been remembering the day I saved files. It claims that every file was saved, or last opened on 5/1/2010. How can I make it so my computer remembers the dates of when everything was saved?

    Is the clock showing the correct time. Check in System preferences > Date & Time to see how you have this set up. It may be that you are connecting (or trying to connect) to an online time server that is not right. Do you have to reset the time?  Also, are you having any problems with the battery?  I am not sure if this MacBook Pro has a separate battery for the clock, but  if that were defective that may cause symptoms like this.

  • How to retrieve the path where AE is installed?

    Is there any code I can use that will return a string of an absolute path where AE is installed on its host?
    Thanks,
    Laz

    I think it's:
    Folder.appPackage
    and even though the Tools Guide implies it might be MacOS-only, it does work for Windows as well. It gives you an escaped string (spaces converted to %20, etc.) of the path to the folder where the app executable is located.

  • How to remember the path while traverse a binary tree?

    Hi, again, I have difficulty handling tree search problems.
    The quesion is How to search for a node from a binary tree A, return true if found meanwhile generate the path which can be used to locate the node.
    I think the signature should be:
    // The path contains only 0s and 1s. 0 means go left and 1 means go right.
    public staic boolean search(Node rootOfA, Node b, ArrayList<Integer> path){
    // the class Node only has two fields:
    Node{
    Node left;
    Node right;
    I know if there is another field in the Node class (say, a flag), the quesion would be much easier, but the space is really critical.
    I tried to use recursion but havn't got a correct solution. I am thinking of usinga non-recursion algo.
    Anyone wants to help?

    Hi, JosAh,
    That's mind provoking. However, I do think it works. It does not pop some stuff it should pop. I tested it over a very simple tree and it failed. Did you test it? I might be wrong...
    The tree I am working on does not have null pointers, the condition to test if a node is a leaf is if(node.right == right). Namly, all the right pointer of leaves points to itself.
    So I changed your code to be:
    Stack search(Node root, Node node, Stack<Integer> path) {
         if (root == null || root.right ==right) return null;
         if (root.equals(node)) return path;
         path.push(0);
    if (search(root.left, node, path) != null) return path;
    path.pop();
    path.push(1);
    return search(root.right, node, path);
    }I simply tested it with
    Stack<Integer> path = new Stack<Integer>();
    System.out.println( root, root.right.right, path);
    root is the root of a complete binary tree with 7 nodes(4 leaves).
    Apparenly, if the path is built correctly search(root, root.right.right, path) would return [1,1] whereas this seach returns [ 0 , 1, 1].
    Considerring , the right branch never pops, I changed it into
    Then I changed it to :
    Stack search(Node root, Node node, Stack<Integer> path) {
         if (root == null || root.right ==right ) return null;
         if (root.equals(node)) return path;
         path.push(0);
    if (search(root.left, node, path) != null) return path;
    path.pop();
    path.push(1);
    if (search(root.right, node, path) != null) return path;
    path.pop();
    return path;
    With the same test case, it returns [].
    I will keep working on it.
    Cheers,
