Remember Window Positon

I am using a new G5 Quad 2.5GHz -- with 30" display. Most of new windows that I open in my applications are opened in the upper left corner of this huge display. I would like to position most of these windows lower and have their positons REMEMBERED. I can get a stiff neck looking up... I'm weary of constantly moving the windows lower on the display. Some apps seem to remember their positions -- Like Safari, Text Edit, My Entourage Mail messages always open in the top left. The majority of the apps do not remember positons. Is their some setting for this? Or possibly a third-party application? This feature would be on my wish-list for future OS.

Hi Elangsru,
No there is not such program that does do that for you.
I using a 24" Mac and ALL of my Applications that I use open ad FULL SCREEN.
How I did that? Open one by one the Applications you are using and drag the window to the size you like, that's it. Next time you open the same Application it will be open at full screen ore what ever size you set it to.
PS. the only Application I use and is NOT opening to the size I set it ore use it the last time is PhotoShop.

  • InDesign won't remember window location

I'm running InDesign CS3 on a Windows XP system with Service Pack 2.
InDesign and InCopy open maximized, and I want them to open at half-screen so I can work in them side by side. I've saved workspaces, but that doesn't seem to work.

I'm similarly annoyed by the application's apparent inehrent inability to remember window size / configuration / placement on desktop whensuccessively opening the app.
In particular, Win 7 (64-bit FWIW in this instance) and using InDesign CS6, v8.0.1
After creating a shortcut on the desktop, the only options afforded through its Properties, at least as far as I've found, are to Run: Normal Window / Minimized / Maximized. Both Minimized and Maximized work as advertised, but Normal Window isn't behaving like a "normal" window, at least normal in the context of most applications running on Windows.
Is there anyway to get InDesign to remember these settings?
    Thank you very much.

  • Mail Not Remembering Window Position of Previous Session (again)

Everytime I relaunch Mail, I have to rearrange the viewer windows to the way that is most efficient to use them. Is there a way for Mail to remember window positions, and sort preferences for each viewer window?

Interestingly, Mail does seem to remember the window positions, in its com.apple.Mail.plist, but it isn't applying the remembered positions. I tried a few times, and on at least one try it got the positions correct. Could it be that if you quit, restart then quit and restart again it will have them right on the second restart?

  • Some programs won't remember window size and position

I have a couple programs, notably ComicNerd, that won't ever seems to remember window size or position from quit to restart. I can't seems to find any evidence other people are having the same problem with the program, so I assume it's something wrong with my computer. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Is there some permissions problem or something?

It's likely a corrupted Preference file
Look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for  .plist file with ComicNerd in it and just move it to your desktop and restart the program/computer.
The preference file should rebuild itself, so look for it and if it's in the Preference folder then delete the one on the  desktop.
You also might want to run ALL the cleaning and maintenance aspects of the free OnyX and reboot.

the Verify > preference (show only corrupted) should also help locate other corrupted .plist (Preference) files for similar action like you did above.

  • Preview - Remember Window Position

If I move my finder window, resize it, then close the window Mac OS X remembers this position and next time I open a finder window it opens to that position and size.  How can I do the same with Preview?

that is really a missing feature and there are still many apps, that do not remember window size/position.
There are 2 little helpers available (and some others, this I have tested with 10.6), that at least reduce the extra effort to just pressing a keyboard shortcut, to move/resize the frontmost window.
In your case, it would so be possible to move/resize the Preview window to the right half of the screen.

  • Remembering windows positions when switching from/to dual screen display

    Hello,
Most of the time, a second LCD screen is plugged in my Macbook and configured as the main display. When I arrange the windows, I keep iTunes or my mail application maximized on the macbook screen and use the bigger external screen for all other windows.
If I unplug the external display, all the windows are of course moved to the laptop display. When I plug again the external screen, all the windows are moved to the external display. But I would like the iTunes and mail application to remain on the laptop screen.
Is there any utility to remember the windows positions and arrange them automatically when I switch from/to single/dual-screen display?
    Regards,
    Raph

Would DisplayWatcher do what you want? I came across this a couple of weeks ago but haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

  • Remember windows from last time

When Firefox starts: show my windows from last time.
I have set it many times to remember from last time but it does not work. It just stopped working today for an unknown reason. When I relaunch Firefox it is still set to remember from last time, but it does not, and always starts with the home page.
Is this a bug, or operator error?

If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5 and later to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

  • Firefox not remembering window size with two monitors

I have a laptop with a monitor attached - both the laptop monitor and external monitor are used as separate desktops. I have Firefox set to open on the external monitor, but it does not remember the last window size: it always opens to the size of the laptop monitor. Firefox is the only program that exhibits this behavior. I have reset, uninstalled and re-installed, yet the same behavior continues. Before re-installing, I've made sure to delete any left over Mozilla/Firefox folders.

As far as I can tell this problem was never fixed and it goes back years:

    Hey
I have 2 monitors and I've arranged the panels on one screen and the main ps windows on the second.

    I've arranged it like this:

How can I make photoshop remember the window's location after restart?

is it possible (in an "easy" way - dont want to edit config files for every application   ) to remember the positions of windows on the gnome desktop?

Use gnome with a window manager that can do this. I don't think metacity can be configured (hardly at all) to do this. Consider integrating XFWM or one of the *box'es. When you've grown used to it, you'll thank me

  • Mail Not Remembering Window Position of Previous Session

Mail has started forgetting how its main window was sized when previously using the application.
When I open Mail, the window dimensions are like those for a small screen - not as previously sized.
Is this a known problem (could not find with discussion search) and is there a fix? Thanks!

  • I give up... Remember Window Size??

I hate having to post on here as I've been an iWork user since the beginning and should probably know this but here's the problem.
Every template I've created over the years works just fine in '09 - EXCEPT the blank one. I made my own blank template and when it opens, it opens in a window that is at 100% zoom, which is way too small for me. I prefer 150% but it will NOT remember to open at that zoom level.
Can somebody cast some light on this? Thanks, in advance.

Thank you for your reply. I did know about the default zoom in the rulers pane and had it set to 150%. But again, thank you.
What I finally wound up doing was using the default Apple-provided blank template, adjusting its settings and saving it as a new template. This one opens to the desired width. It's just odd that the other one (now one or two more of my templates that I didn't notice before as well) would not default to the 150% even though I had it set in the preferences.
Although I marked the question answered, maybe the discussion could continue about how '08 templates are affected by '09?
