Remembering passwords for certain sites

I have an iPad with iOS 4.2.1, brand new (2 days old). I notice in Safari that passwords are saved for sites where the username/password are entered on the page.
However, for sites that have you enter the username/password in a popup dialog box, they do not save, nor is there any option to save them.
Yes, I do have "Names and Passwords" turned on in Options.
This is terribly inconveinent, as some sites I use do not allow me to pick my own login credentials, and they are not easily remembered.
Is there a solution to this?

Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" in "Clear Recent History" will remove exceptions that are stored in content-prefs.sqlite (site specific settings for zoom) and permissions.sqlite (exceptions for images, cookies, pop-ups, software; Tools > Page Info > Permissions) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder].
The password exceptions (Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: Show Passwords) are also removed from signons.sqlite.

  • I tell firefox not to remember passwords for certain sites, and it forgets when I exit

    I'm running 3.6.9 on Win7. I have chosen the setting of remembering passwords for websites. However, for certain sites I choose "never to remember passwords" and this used to work fine in earlier versions. Now, whenever I exit firefox these sites for which I do NOT want to remember passwords are forgotten about, and every time I visit them after a restart I have to instruct firefox that I don't want to remember passwords there, etc. It's getting awfully tedious. What changed? How do I ensure that my password "exceptions" are remembered between sessions?

  • How do I save the password for a site for which I have chosen the "never remember password for this site" option?

    The first time you enter a password for a site a box pops up under the address bar that has a picture of a key and then the question: "Remember this password?". In the drop box, I chose the option "Never Remember Password for This Site". I can't figure out how to change it so that the password IS remembered.

    It sounds like the printer is still trying to retain the old network information.
    Try a Hard Reset:
    * Unplug printer while unit is turned on
    * Unplug other end of power cord from the direct wall outlet
    * Wait 30 seconds
    * Plug unit back up for power
    Reset Network information to Default:
    * Press the Wrench/Setup menu button in the top right of the touch display of the printer
    * Select the Wireless menu option
    * Scroll down to Restore Network Defaults
    After restoring the defaults, then try running the Wireless Setup Wizard. Let me know if the unit still does not retain the information.

    Set Firefox not to remember passwords.
    * Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: [] "Remember passwords for sites"
    If you've already saved passwords then remove saved Password(s) here:
    * Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" (Show Passwords)

  • Anyone know why, firefox does not remember password for a site when you remove password from the view password site? I removed a pasword in the view password window and now it not asking me to remember and also it is not remembering the password when I go

    Anyone know why, firefox does not remember password for a site when you remove password from the view password site? I removed a password for a site that was not remembering the correct password for the "view password" window and now it does not guess the password and does not remember the password for that site. All other sites are being remembered.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == After I deleted the password from the view password window.

    The saved password feature worked well, but the site I had saved the password for required that I change the password. I have found no way to update the password in Firefox. After I deleted the saved password, Firefox did not ask if I wanted the new password saved. When this happened before, I removed and re-installed Firefox, and then it worked. I hope there is another way to update a password.

  • How do you get Firefox to remember the response sent to remember password for a site and then not ask the same question over and over?

    How do you get Firefox to remember the response sent to remember password for a web site and not ask over and over? The desktop version has a dialog box that you can check that says "Don't ask me this again". The mobile version doesn't. A real pain!
    Thankx

    You can switch off or uncheck the remember password in your settings :-)

  • PWMgr. won't ask to remember password for one site; it used to. It works on Safari. How do I get it to ask?

    Mac OS 10.4.11, PowerBook G4. Broadband connection.
    It used to remember the user name and password for this one site I use daily; suddenly it would put in user name but not fill in password. Neither one shows up on Password Manager.
    I know it's not the site since Safari remembers both.
    How can I restore the password?
    Thanks

    Thank you but I tried the bookmarklet twice; no dice. I downloaded password editor but I must be doing something wrong since I try to add the username & password and it doesn't stick.
    Autocomplete is on and works for every other site (& on Safari). This particular site will autocomplete my name (that is if I type in the first letter it shows an option) and it used to then automatically add the password.
    Help!

    Sorry, the place I need to delete my account is in system.  I no longer have an account with Facebook, my 14 days are gone.  Yet I can not delete a Facebook address from my account.  Will let me remove my real email, but not facebooks.

  • Babysitter said don't ever remember passwords for websites we often use

    My wife and I have for 3 1/2 years enjoyed sharing one user admin account on iMac without problem. This week the babysitter, before I got to create a user account for her, used our account to access her own hotmail and facebook pages as well as some others. the only thing is that she said don't ever remember passwords for the sites.
    It's not a major issue, but is there some way to reset the password permissions in Safari? Do I just delete the cookies or do I have to somehow restore/reset Safari?
    Any help on this issue would be good. Thanks for your time.
    P.s - We have now created an account for guest users, including the babysitter.

    HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    *"the only thing is that she said don't ever remember passwords for the sites."*
    It would be much easier to go to both MSN/Hotmail and Facebook sites. Where you sign in and type in a username, there should be a link to click that says: Forgot your password?
    If for some reason you can't do it that way, open the Keychain Access application.
    (Application/Utilities).
    Under Keychains on the left, select "login". Under category select Passwords.
    Select: login Facebook
    At the bottom of the window click the i
    (Just to the right of the + ) Select the Attributes tab. Select where you see; Show password.

  • How do I add "exceptions" to the "remember passwords for sites" feature in Tools/Options/Security?

    I like when FireFox remembers and automatically posts user names and password when I go on to most sites. But there are some I do not wish to automatically be posted. However, when I select "Exceptions" within the Tools/Options/Security/Remember Passwords For Sites pathway, all I can do is see the sites that are exceptions. This facility doesn't seem to allow you to add a site (which would then become an exception). Please advise.

    Tools > Options > Security > Passwords: Exceptions
    Include those that you do not want to save passwords for, such as those regard banks, credit cards, or other financial institutions.
    To remove one already created use the "Saved Passwords" on that dialog,
    after supplying master password (twice if you view passwords),
    :Select the site and use "Remove" to remove the unwanted password.
    :Certainly hope you do assign a Master Password to provide some protection to your passwords.
    I like that '''about:permissions''' noted by xr417, it does same as above, but allows you to modify something already in system easier. Don't think I've seen that before. Did a search on bank and found an old account/password -- don't even want an old one there.

  • Why is my saved Facebook password not used when both "Permanent Private Browsing" and "Remember Passwords for Sites" are enabled?

    After entering and saving my Facebook user name and password, the data is not used for subsequent entries into the application after the browser is reset. "Remember Passwords for Sites" is checked, but the data is only used if I do NOT have "Permanent Private Browsing enabled. Why does "Permanent Private Browsing" effect passwords? (Note: Facebook is NOT in the "Passwords / Exceptions..." list.)

    I agree that password protection may be considered important by some for Private Browsing, however if that is the intention, then it would be one of the delineated items such as...remember browser history, remember download history, etc. that are check-listed under that function. Also, having a separate Passwords option implies that their functions are mutually exclusive and therefore should function independent of one another.
    Thanks for your response.

    Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
    Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Private+Browsing
    * In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
    * Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
    Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • How can I get Safari to remember my ID and password for a site?

    How can I get Safari to remember my ID and password for a site?
    Specifically, I would like it to remember my 14 digit library account on:  http://polaris.plano.gov/Polaris/logon.aspx
    Firefox on my old PC was able to do this no problem.  I have recently switched over to Apple.  Thanks for your help!
    FYI, I am on a new Mac Mini with OS X 10.8.3 and Safari 6.0.4.

    Some websites request the web browser to NOT autofill the username, password.  It is possible the library site is doing that. Your previous firefox on the PC may have been sufficiently old to not be able to handle such a request.  There are password managers you can get to over-ride such things (search Safari extensions).

  • I can't turn off "Remember passwords for sites." It keeps coming back on.

    No matter how many times I uncheck "Remember passwords for sites" it keeps coming back on.

    This issue can be caused by an extension.
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
