Remembering WPA Enterprise Network

At my university, the wireless network is a WPA enterprise network. Each time I want to connect, I have to enter everything in manually. How do I get it to remember the network?

Thank you both for your replies. I am trying iphitus ideia but am having trouble and the wiki doesn't have much info (not related to this issue at least).
ifconfig -a related to the wireless interface:

CONNECTION="wireless"
INTERFACE=eth1
SCAN="yes"
SECURITY="wpa"
ESSID="eduroam"

IP="dhcp"
TIMEOUT=30
I don't think this information in the profile is enough, doesn't say which WPA protocol uses, nor the user (in the WPA Enterprise case) so I believe the problem might be related to that lack of info in the profile. The wiki didn't have an example for WPA enterprise though
EDIT: Also my wpa_supplicant.conf is like the one on my first post with these aditional lines:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0

  • WPA Enterprise on Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo, late 2006 model

    Hi all.
    I have the most bizarre problem when connection the a WPA Enterprise network.
    I am running 10.4.10 with all the software updates and latest network fixes.
    I am able to connect to WPA Enterprise network (hidden) when I enter the network name, username and password under 'preferred networks' in the System Pref., Network section. Once I disable the airport and enable it again, it will automatically logon to the WPA Enterprise network.
    However, if I remove the WPA Enterprise network from the 'preferred networks' list and try to manually logon, by clicking on the airport icon in the menu bar (next to the speaker and battery icon), using the same logon credentials, I get a 'WPA Enterprise authentication failed. Please contact your network admin ...'.
    (Connecting to any(!) other type of network works fine)
    I have phoned apple support, but was told they are not aware of any such problems with WPA Enterprise on 10.4.10.
    I would be most grateful to hear from others who have problems connecting to a WPA Enterprise networks via the above methodes.
    Thanks.
    Chris

  • IPad WPA Enterprise connection

    I am setting up a bunch of iPads at work and I keep getting "Unable to Join Network" when I try to login to the WPA Enterprise network. I successfully set up about 8, but for some reason I still can't get this one going. I have tried reseting the network settings, reseting the iPad to factory condition... nothing seems to work. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Try updating the WLAN drivers and see if it helps.

  • WPA-Enterprise: WRT54GL or WAP54G or...?

    Hi!
    I'm planning to implement a WPA-Enterprise network with WPA encryption and 802.1x authentification through a FreeRADIUS server.
    It's a requirement that all clients recieve their IP from our central DHCP server.
    I'm considering both a WAP54G AP and a WRT54GL (since it's very versatilie with option for 3rd party linux OS and the difference in price is minimal) for this setup, although I'm open to other suggestions.
    Anyone have experience in setting up a WPA-Enterprise and FreeRADIUS network, who've perhaps experienced either success or problems with it?
    In regard to the WRT54GL I obviously need to disable the builtin DHCP server, but is it possible to achieve the DHCP passthrough while maintaining a IP on the router's WAN port for remote administration?
    Kindly,
    Thomas

    Thanks for that info - I was thinking we had to plug the WAN cable into a LAN port, which I feared might screw around with the connection to the 802.1x authentication service.
    Additional question:
    Anyone know if roaming between AP's works (flawlessly?) when you're authenticated through 802.1x?

  • Why does the WPA Enterprise Wifi Network not get displayed?

    I wanted to connect to the wifi of my university via eduroam and was not able to even get the eduroam network displayed in the list of Wifi networks. I'm sure that it was there, because I tried it on several spots and my laptop was always able to find it and connect to it. Could it be that WPA Enterprise is not supported? It's quite standard already, isn't it?
    There would be a second option to connect to an open network and add a VPN tunnel, but I could not find any vpn-Application for Firefox OS.
    Did I oversee something or is there really no possibility to access any of my university networks?
    I am using an Alcatel One Touch Fire (German language set) with current Firefox OS 1.1.0.0-prerelease

    It seems to me that WPA Enterprise is not currently enabled in Firefox OS.
    There are several bugs regarding this feature, among others: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=790056
    Regarding VPN, there is a recent thread, which also indicates that this feature is not currently supported. See the discussion here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/967948
    It also lists the bug-id related to this features.

  • WPA Enterprise won't authenticate

    I just upgraded my MacBook from Tiger to Leopard (latest upgrades installed). However now I can no longer access the wireless network at work. Each time I try the authentication fails. I should mention that when I had Tiger and connected it always gave me a warning about the certificate which I just clicked away and everything worked fine. With Leopard I don't get that warning, and don't get a connection. Nothing else has changed, and I can't remember the certificate message I got in Tiger.
    Any ideas?

    Don't know the answer to your question I'm afraid but what's the difference between WPA enterprise and WPA personal, and would I gain anything by using enterprise at home?

  • Connecting MBA to domain using WPA Enterprise

    Hi guys!
    I'm having "the usual" new MBA WiFi-problems, meaning my MBA keeps dropping the WiFi connection occasionally, but that's going on in another thread.
    I don't know whether this is a related problem, but I can't seem to connect the MBA to the WiFi network at the office at all. The network connection dialog tells me my connection needs WPA Enterprise credentials, but no matter what I write, I won't get connected.
    So I'll start with the basics. This works for every other device I have (PC laptop, iPhone, iPads and so on):
    Username: \\MyDomain\MyUserName
    Password: MyPassword
    But not for the MBA. For the domain/username, I've tried single \´s and /´s and just about any combination just in case this is a "Mac syntax thing" (this is my first Mac laptop), with and without the MyDomain part, lowercase, uppercase, quotation marks around the password (as I saw mentioned in some thread in the case of alphanumeric WEP, or some such), but nothing works. I don't remember the exact error message, but it has to do with the authentication server perhaps not being available.
    Apparently others have had problems with the WPA Enterprise connections as well, but could somebody just confirm that the \\MyDomain\MyUsename -syntax I'm using is indeed correct.
    Cheers,
    Kim

    Marc,
    I'm suprised that WPA works over WDS. I had thought that because WPA cycles the encryption key with each message transmission that the two Airport devices would quickly get out of sync.
    But I do respect Alan's opinion, so I'd give in to his statement that it does work, I'll be searching through the update readme's to see when it started working.
    You could always drop back to WEP encryption. Unless you have the FBI next door listening in and analysing all your network traffic, it's not going to be broken.
    WPA changes the encryption key with each wireless message, WEP doesn't. So in theory, with WEP, someone could analyse all your network traffic, looking for patterns. You can work out just how hard that is.
    If you choose an obvious password (like from a dictionary) it won't matter if you're on WPA instead of WEP, the Feds / hackers will be in in a short time.

  • Problems connectig using WPA Enterprise with Leopard

    I updated my software yesterday, but today i could not log on to the network at my university. There were no problems with the Windows XP pcs I tested. It wonder if it might have something to do with the password reseting itself - when I enter the network preferences screen the password section is blank even if I ask Leopard to remember it.
    It seems to accept my password and shows signal strength varying from between two points and full strength, but is listed as disconnected by network diagnostics.
    If any of you have experienced similar problems any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    If you are using WPA Enterprise to connect, it's likely that you did so using 802.1X under Mac OS X 10.4 before installing Leopard. This mechanism has changed in Mac OS X 10.5 and it is clearly not performing as expected, and causing serious problems for enterprise and higher education users.
    Insert the string <802.1X> in the Search Box in the upper right corner, and you'll see a number of posts about this issue by academic computing staff personnel, who are working cooperatively to identify the issues involved, and find workarounds until the matter can be addressed by Apple.
    I suggest also that you contact an AppleCare representative at (800) APL CARE and initiate a case. Be prepared for very long wait on hold times, possibly 45 minutes or more. They are flooded with requests, but it's important that additional pressure be placed on them to escalate these reported cases for resolution.

  • Ibook g3's and Cisco WPA Eneterprise networks

    here is a problem I have found all over these boards but no real solution. We have a cisco wireless network using wpa enterprise (NOT WPA2) we have over a 1000 ibook g3's (500 mhz-800 MHz). we can only connect to wpa emterprise using PEAP if we have 10.3.9 minus the airport update 4.2. Tiger doesn't work at all no matter what version (This is only with our ibook g3's, g4's and intels works fine no matter what). We are fine with using panther but everytime someone shuts down or logs off and relogs on it says connected but it is not. You have to manually reconnect. (GASP......BREATH) Since this is a school district we wish for a way to make it autoreconnect (remember 10.3.9 in network preferences doesn't have a spot for username in preferred networks so that doesn't work) Any ideas!!!!!!!!!

    That may be the problem. The G3's may not be able to take advantage of PEAP without the hangup.

    I know a G3 iBook with its 802.11b connectivity can't use WPA2.

  • VRF Lite running in the enterprise network

    Hello everybody
    Altough VRF lite (or Mulit VRF) seems to be a Service Provider Tecnology.
    Does it make sense to use it in an Enterprise Network to isolate Networks from others ?
    I cant find any design paper which describes if this would make sense.
    What do you think. Is someone using it ? Does Cisco recommend it ?

    Yes, VRF-lite SHOULD be used in an Enterprise environment to isolate the different security classes of devices.
    In the past you would isolate different groups of users using Layer1, i.e. separate hubs either totally isolated or connected together by a router with ACLs. Since the PCs were only connected at shared 10 Mbit and the routers were such low performance and worms weren't really prevalent, this was not a big security issue at the time.
    Then we migrated to VLANs, which essentially allowed Layer2 isolation within the same switch to provide the same functionality of separating different classes of users and to break up broadcast domains. Unfortunately, everyone connected the VLANs together at Layer3 with a router (or SVI) which essentially connected everything together again! And almost no one gets the ACLs right (if at all) to isolate the VLANs from each other. In fact, in most cases every VLAN can automatically reach every other VLAN from a Layer3 or IP perspective. This is a huge security problem.
    Enter VRF-lite, essentially created by Cisco as their tag switching migrated to standards based MPLS and had a need to isolate Layer3 security domains from each other within the same switch (or router). Think of VLANs for routing tables. VRF stands for 'Virtual Route Forwarding', which basically means separate routing tables. Since VRF-lite is a per-switch feature (running locally to the switch) you will need to use other technologies to connect multiple VRF-lite switches together and keep the traffic isolated, see below.
    What makes this so secure is that there is no command within the switch to connect different VRFs together within the same switch. You would need to connect a cable between two ports on the same switch configured in different VRFs to be able to communicate between them (recent IOS 12.2SR allows tunnels with different source VRFs but that is a corner case). The reason for this is simple, remember the basis for VRF (and VRF-lite) is for a service provider to isolate multiple customers from each other within the same switch. Just like an ATM, Frame-Relay, SONET, or Optical switch, the command line makes it very difficult (or impossible) to accidentally connect 2 different customers together.
    Think about that. Even if someone was able to get ssh enable access to your switch (you aren't running telnet anymore, right?!), they CAN'T connect 2 VRFs together with any command.
    And, yes, this is highly recommended by Cisco Engineers and is actually deployed far more than you think. I have VRF-lite running on at least 10 client's networks and those are LARGE networks. VRF-lite was integrated into the environment purely to solve a Layer3 security class isolation issue. I have used Layer3 dot1q trunks on c6500 switches and tunnels to keep isolated connectivity between VRFs between switches.
    In Cisco speak, VRF-lite falls under the topic of 'Path Isolation' which is combined with other features that isolate traffic within the same network such as dot1q trunking, tunneling, VPN, policy-routing, and MPLS. Do a search on Cisco's web site for 'path isolation' and you will find a bunch of info.

  • Extend WPA Enterprise

    Does anyone know if there is any way I can connect my Time Capsule to my University wireless network?
    I live right opposite my university and if I put my laptop on my window sill I can connect to the wireless, but can't connect from my desk... I was wanting to put my time capsule on my window sill, use that to connect to the Uni wireless and thus extend the connection into my room...
    Does anyone know a way to achieve this? My Uni uses WPA Enterprise encryption...
    Many thanks.
    Andrew.

    One possible option, with your existing equipment, would be to reconfigure your Mac as a "software" router by employing OS X's Internet Sharing feature. In this case you would be sharing the Mac's wireless Internet connection through its Ethernet port. Theoretically, you could then connect the TC to the Mac's Ethernet port; reconfigure the TC as a bridge, and then connect clients to the TC.
    Personally I haven't tried this to verify that it would work. Mainly because using a Mac as a software router is extremely limited as far as features that this would provide.
