Reminder app that can remind even if mac is shut down?
is there any type of reminder app that can even remind me when my mac is shut down?....or even in sleep mode?
I know today is Fool's Day, but you guys are pushing it one serious notch beyond any reasonable limit...
Seriously, what if the guy doesn't want to get married...? Or is there an app called iWife...?

How can i get my mac to shut down correctly?
This problem started a couple of days ago. I'm speaking of my iMac which is running Mac os Mavericks 10.9.4, it uses an Intel Core 2 Duo cpu as well. Recently when I shut down through the Apple button --> Shut down it simply goes to the white screen with the spinning gear at the bottom and it keeps spinning and does not shut down. The only way I can get my computer to shut down now is to force a shut down with the power button during an attempted shut down or just forcing it to shut down before trying to correctly shut it down through the Apple button --> Shut down. Please help, I've tried resetting the SMC as I've seen in other posts about this topic and any of the other issues that fixed it aren't my issue, I've checked. I'd appreciate any help given to try to fix my computer. Thank you in advance.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
☞ When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -
It's hot even the Mac is shut down

My iSight is very hot even my Mac is already shut down.
It won't cool down unless I unplug the firewire cable.

When I try to log on as I have usually done I get a small window
stating that an error has occurred and when I click on what should solve the problem a larger white window appears stating
I should not close the window...although several times I have

I feel like Firefox has taken over my heretofore routine
usage of my computer and I have lost control. HELP!!!!!That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I'm on Vacation with no access to my Mac. But had tried Sync. My software update is iOS 6.0.1. I've tried another WiFi network. I read your comment of deleting Apps for stuck update. So removed all Apps! Can't even install Free Apps. Now using my Kindle

In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever. -
Umm I just got this iPhone 5 and cellular data is not working, can't access apps, heck can't even download any and Safari...ummm yeah not happening. I'm with Sprint if that makes any difference.
Are you in an area where there is no coverage?
You can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
If that doesn't help, then yOu'll need to contact Sprint again. -
Looking for a simple app that can output 8 channels simultaneously.
Hello esteemed audio community.
I have to create a little effect for an upcoming party. For this I have created the following audio tracks in Garage Band:
- 4 separate audio channels (stereo front and stereo rear)
- one mono combination of these four tracks (to drive a Light organ gizmo - makes the light flicker with the audio)
- and finally two separate tracks with simple 1Khz pulses to trigger relays for a fog machine.
I now need to be able to play these 7 tracks simultaneously and send them to different amplifiers and relays. So I need two things: 1) a software that can play them and 2) a hardware interface that can take these 7 channels out of the computer and convert them to line levels analog signals.
I thought this would be pretty straight forward but it turns out that it is not, unless you want to throw $$$ at it which I really can't afford.
Software wise, unfortunately, GB can only output 2 audio channel at one time. So I need to find a little app that can offers multitrack output. Ideally it would some shareware thing that would allow me to load in up to 8 tracks saved from GB, adjust their individual levels and then output them.
Second issue is hardware. Here I have found the M-Audio 410 firewire. This box will take up to 10 audio "returns" and output them to analog. They can be found used for about $150. So I think this might work.
Budget for this setup is very limited, hopefully no more than $150. Quality does not have to be very high although a good bass response will be important for the effect. I don't need any recording. Only playback.
Would any one have any suggestion on how to best accomplish this? If this software does not exist, how complicated would it be to write it? Would Applescript be useful for this? All it needs to do is read 8 audio files (2 minutes max), allow me to adjust their level and output all 8 at the same time.

Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

Notes App That Can Import Word Docs and Record Audio
I have Pages now which you can import Word docs to.
I have another app that can record audio and take notes, but you can't import documents.
Is there an app that does both? Import Word docs that I can edit and then also record audio at the same time?
Thanks!!Yes you can use Pages for Word documents and transfer the files as Word documents to iTunes and then to your desktop via file sharing. I use it. Frankly I haven't paid attention to any of the spell check features at all so I can't say for sure that it will work the way that you want it to work.
From everything that I have read about Pages v Documents to Go, I was under the impression that Docs to Go was the much better choice for all around compatibility with Word files. Actually, Pages has some issues going from Pages on the iPad to Pages on the Mac in terms of compatibility and formatting. -
Any app that can play wmv files?
Hi, like some other users here, I'm facing the inability to open my wmv attachments in my mail -which is quite frustrating considering that most of my friends are windows users. I know iPad doesn't support wmv and some other windows video files, but isn't there any app that can get around this problem? I searched Appstore and one of the results I got was called AirvideoFree but dumb 'ol me can't understand how it works. Their website doesn't help much either. Any answer (in simple to follow steps) is welcome. If this app is not what I'm looking for-is there any other available?
I contacted Omar with support for Azul and was quickly answered. I was having the same problem. Since iOS4 multitasks you will need to double click the home button to show apps running in the back ground. Hold down on the app until it wiggles. At that point x out or close Azul. Now go back to your mail and click on the attachment and you get option to open with Azul and by using that it will open and play the .wmv file.
Omar said problem is a bug and they are working to fix it in an upcoming update. This is a great little app and the price is very reasonable IMHO. The above mentioned work around involves a couple of extra clicks but since I could not even view .wmv before I am happy with the work around. -
Just as I said, I need to be able to make some kind of document where I can combine text, photos, and drawings/sketches for ideas/plans. Anyone know of an app or apps that can do that? I can find ones that do text & photos easy, but it's the ability to add sketches/drawings into one document that I really need. I know of one newer app that is new that attempts it, Ideaz, but it has a lot of bugs, you can only type in about 50 characters of text & trying to draw in it doesn't even work. It's awful.
You can't add sketches, only tables & photos plus it doesn't have very good reviews. But thank you for your quick reply.
