Reminders App - Location Based Reminder Questions

So you can only setup a locaiton based reminder based on an already entered address in a contact?
You can't just bring up a Google Map, and select a locaiton? It has to be an already entered into the phone address?
I don't have all the address I want, but if I could pick a spot on a map, that would be big time.
Not an option?

  • Reminders.app locations

I can't seem to get reminders.app to update the list of location-based reminders. When I type "home" in a location based reminder, it pulls up two old "home" addresses I had listed...I tried changing my contact card to another one then changing back, but it didn't seem to refresh. I couldn't find a pref file or anything else that I could delete...any help?
It seems like it is caching addresses somewhere.

Well it turns out it can't be done. This strikes me as odd as the buildup of unwanted locations makes the app cumbersome to use. If you have the same problem may I suggest you file a complaint with Apple here.

  • Location-based reminder mixes-up my contact info when selecting "home" on the first reminder to a friend's home

When I set my first location-based reminder, I set it to arrive at a friend's house. However, now the Reminders app thinks that my friend's place is my "home." His home, work, etc numbers all appear as the default entries, thinking they are my addresses when creating a new reminder. Furthermore, suddenly his picture was tied to my account, even on my computer when logging into iCloud!
I looked everywhere and could not find this issue reported.
Is there any way I can change it so that my home actually is my home, the default locations are my locations, and my picture is my real picture?
And most importantly, if it cannot be fixed, given that my friend's picture and addresses are now tied to my info, is there anything else that is now mixed-up in my iPhone/iCloud account and contact info?
    Thanks much for your help!

EDIT: I think I fixed this issue ( ! ) doing the following:
I deleted every reminder from my phone
Next I turned off Reminders under my iCloud settings. (On the iPhone under Settings->iCloud)
When prompted, I selected to delete local reminders on my iPhone that were formerly synced.
Next I turned the Reminders back on.
Now I re-entered the Reminders app, and created a new reminder.
This time I made sure to set my home as the location.
Once saved, all further location-based reminders correctly identify my home/work/etc...and now my friend's home is added as a "Custom Location"
Did this fully fix the issue? ...Hopefully this will help others that may see this problem....

There is a new "My Info" part in the Mail, Contacts, Calendars section.  Make sure your contact info has been selected and then Reminders will default to both your home and work addresses.

  • A deleted location based "reminder" continues to alert me, but does not actually show up in the reminder list.

When I first upgraded to ios5 I decided to test the reminders app by setting a location based reminder for when I got home.  After I found it worked I deleted it on my mac.  But now everytime I get home my phone goes off, but it does not show up in the reminders app because it has already been deleted.  Any ideas?

so after reading other posts I found the fix.
1.) go to settings>iCloud> then turn OFF reminders
2.) it will ask if you want to keep or delete reminders. Delete all reminders from your phone.
3.) Go back into reminders and the bad georeminder will now be visable.
    4.) Delete the offending reminder
5.) go back into the settings>iCloud and turn reminders back on
A pain but it did work. And now I won't be using that until a fix comes down from Apple

  • I set up a location based reminder in notification last week to test it out.  Worked great, but now I cannot get rid of it.  It does not show up in any list on the notifications pages, but can be found in search.  How can I get rid of this notification?

Last week I set up a location based reminder in notifications to test it out.  Worked great.  However, I can't get rid of it.  It does not show up on any of the pages, either reminders or completed.  I can search and find it, shows it should be in reminders page, but it is not there for me to remove.  Any ideas?

  • Why don't I have location-based reminder capability on my Verizon iPhone 4 w/iOS 5.0.1?

I updated my Verizon iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 and I do not have the location-based reminder feature. I have followed the process to create a location-based reminder but do not see the option when I get to the "Remind Me" screen. Is the problem related to Verizon? Or have I overlooked something in settings?

Location based Reminders only work with lists in your iCloud Reminders account. Make sure you’ve enabled iCloud and iCloud Reminders sync first.

  • Reminders app location problem

I have two addresses setup in my "ME" contact (both on my mac and phone). One is home and one is work.  But there is a THIRD address (with a red pin next to it) on my iphone that shows up when I activate "Location" based reminders.  So there are FOUR options in my list:
    current location
    home
    work
"Roberts Home" ....at a random address that I have never heard of and that is NOT in my address book. (With the RED PIN) <== I WANT TO DELETE THIS ADDRESS & PIN
So I neither know HOW this address got here (the lesser problem) or how to GET RID OF IT (the greater problem).
I thought that all location-based reminders had to be either at a "current location" or in an address in your address book?
Can anybody help other than suggesting that I reinstall the OS and then rebuilding my phone (instead of restoring from backup to avoid re-adding the offending PIN)? I can't see where this "PIN" might be saved...it doesn't show up on any maps, or bookmarks, or in my address book that I can find.
    Thanks!

I was having a similar issue. There was a pin at a strange location that it thought was my address (in addition to Home and Work). It turned out that it was due to the Facebook app, which only has my city and state info for my address, and thus it put a pin near the middle of my city and called it my address. I went into Settings -> Facebook and disallowed Contacts to use my FB account. This made the pin disappear in Reminders. It also made the phone not know who I was in the contacts. Fix that by going to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> My Info and re-select yourself.
I hope this helps! If not Facebook, maybe you have another app linked to your contacts that's causing the erroneous pin.

  • Location based reminder not working?

I'm unable to create a reminder that is location based if the location is not in the address book. Is this normal?
For example, I can't say: remind me to get xxx when arriving at walmart: I would expect it to ask which walmart and then specific or even specify which walmart from the beginning but Siri only says it does not understand. Can this not be done?

Yeah, has to be in the address book. If you want to add places you don't really want address cards for you could put them in a separate group, then just ignore that group when viewing.

  • How can i save multiple locations to my reminders app on the iphone 4?

I want to be reminded to do a task when I arrive home. Is it possible to save my home location (and other useful locations) to the reminders app? This is more useful than guessing when I will arrive at a location and setting a reminder for then.
If not possible at the moment, Apple please include this in the next iOS update. Thank you.

Yes, this is possible.  Go into your contacts list and choose yourself (hopefully you're in there and set up as the user on the phone.)  Then enter in your addresses (home, work, school, etc.) and next time you set up a location based reminder those address will be in there.

  • Why are location-based reminders no longer working?

I have been using a 4s for the last couple of years and have not had an issue with the reliability of location-based reminders until recently. I have set these reminders both manually and via Siri, in iOS 6 and now 7. For a significant time, the reminders worked without fail in iOS 6, but over the last few months, they have stopped working (while still using iOS 6). In fact, it seems that when I set a location-based reminder manually, completed the process with the "done" button, and then double-checked that reminder's specific settings (the location info and the "on" toggle for a location-trigger), none of my input info was registered - i.e. the toggle was now off and no location info was remembered upon the double-check. Figuring that the app was no longer being as useful in iOS 6 since the intro of iOS 7 (perhaps it was getting more buggy in any new updates/iterations while I still used iOS 6?), I've recently updated to iOS 7, and the above issue persists. Location services for Reminders is on in the settings. Any explanation or fix..?!
    Thank you!!

Yeah it's weird that I can create location based reminders via iOS Safari using desktop mode and use a third party app that syncs with reminders to create location alerts and I can create location based alerts in the calendar app but not reminders. Could have sworn in iOS 7 I could.

  • Reminders.app would like to use your current location.

When I set a location-based Reminder on my iPhone 5S, a window pops up on my Mavericks-iMac asking permission, "'Reminders.app' would like to use your current location," along with radio buttons offering OK or Don't Allow.  I have scoured settings on my phone and on my Mavericks iMac--I should not be getting this message.
    Your thoughts appreciated.

I'd suggest everyone else uses that page too. Apple probably don't read these posts so if you have something to say direct it at the iOS or OS X feedback forms.

  • Using location based reminders on a Mac

I'd like to set a location based reminder on my Mac and have it trigger on iOS when out and about. Supposedly, if I type an address in the location field (using Reminders on my Mac) it should take, but the field just empties and defaults to my current location. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?

Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy and turn on Location Services.

  • Cannot clear pins & locations from reminders app

When I set location based reminder on iPhone 5s several pins and locations appear.  They do not appear in MacBook app, the Map app looks clear, and they are not coming from Contacts.  Any suggestion on how to clear the Reminder app?

    Open Maps.
Tap the Address bar at top.
In the drop down, tap Favorites > (at top).
Tap Recents at bottom then tap Clear at top left.

  • [ios5] [iPad2] no location based reminders

*** Why i cant create location based reminder on my ipad 2 It was the main feature for me in os5 and now seems it is not pissible. Csn someone help me with that??? Thanks

No I can see tonefox's point and that is probably why Apple left it off. It gives another incentive to buy the iphone. BUUUUUTTT three things.
    1. Like Hollowcorpse this is my calendar, filofax, etc. as a mobile office I need my reminders. The iPad was also advertised as a portable office sooo this would have to be included.
    2. It NEVER was indicated that it would not be included. This nefarious way and my belief that Apple left it off to make more money upsets me. I know Apple is no better than any other corporation but with the "be different" slogan and the culture that they have propogated it is disappointing.
    3. We paid good money (more than iphones) for our devices, why should we not get the benefits? If there are technical reasons that's a different matter. Hey, I'll even swallow a feature (siri) that would run and we don't get but it was  also never indicated that we would get it.
I understand tonefox that you are not disagreeing with us but trying to show the other side. But again I feel that Apple sold us the device also as a mobile office and touted the feature. In that case we should get it.

  • History : Location based reminders?

I use a location based reminder whenever I arrive at a site and when I depart and that works very well.
Is there a way I can get the list of all the date and times that I received the notifications when arriving and departing the location?
    For example :
    date/time : Arriving at <location>
    date/time : Departing from <location>
    date/time : Arriving at <location>
    date/time : Departing from <location>

GGo to settings> privacy > location services > system services > ffrequent locations. And you should have history there if frequent locations has been on. Dates and times.
