Reminders on SMS, Missed VM's

I find it hard to believe that on an Iphone if you happen to miss the chirp from an SMS or a Voicemail, that the only way you kno youhave a voicemail is to look at your phone? Mmh, whats wrong with that picture!
I dont know about you but if I am sleeping I probably wont here that chirp (or other ringtone allowed in that notification). And as a network engineer, sms and voicemails are critical - sometimes we get paged at 3am and in a deep sleep there is a good chance we wont here the sms come in.
So I guess if you are a network engineer, a doctor or any profession where you need to be on call 24/7 then the iphone is not for you?
All phones I know allow you to set reminders every x mins - do I absolutely have to jailbreak my phone to possibly get this done?
What is the logic with Apple an the lack of some a basic and critical function in a phone!

It does surprise me Apple haven't provided for this. As much as I love my iPhone, I don't want to be switching it on just to check for missed alerts, so I've posted on the Feedback site. Fingers crossed.
There are 2 enhancements I'd like to see :
1) A periodic audible beep to draw my attention to missed things so I don't have to turn my phone on to check those. In the next iPhone I'd like to see one of those tiny white LEDs which only illuminates when something has not been acknowledged - ie. not one of those daft permanently flashing ones on other smartphones.
2) A way to disable all notifications except phone calls when I'm sleeping - ie. 'don't notify me between xx:xx and xx:xx' - similar to what Twitter does with SMS alerts.

Weird Problem : one sms missed about every 50 sms

My midp application which was listening some specific port missed one SMS message about every 50 SMS messages and the missed SMS message directly entered into the native SMS inbox. I'm using nokia 3650. If my midp application had something wrong, every sms should be missed. It's weird. Has anyone ever met the same problem before? Why?

It's up to the company that brings you the sms-service to deliver your sms. Sometimes the fail... probably as easy as that.

Why do my home screen messages keep disappearing (SMS, missed calls, etc.)?

My messages, all others beside e-mail, because I haven't even set it up, just keep disappearing. I have the home screen theme that shows messages, calendar, call log and applications. The messages section shows me when I have a missed call or a text or anything like that....but for some reason, I go back to my phone and I can't see who has called or texted. The home screen messages section is empty, and if I select it and go to my messages app., there are only 3 listed and 2 are from Blackberry on Apr. 25 and Jul. 30, and only one shows up from my boss on Aug. 5. The only reason I can even imagine that still shows up is because she too has a blackberry. I don't know, but, it's really starting to aggravate the crap out of me. Anyone know how to help?
I've gone to messages General Options and made sure that all calls are sent to messages and the call log.
Oh, yeah! The Call Log doesn't hold anything either. It's ridiculous!
Please help because I like this phone, but, it's not doing its job to the fullest, and that's disappointing.

this has been asked before and solved.. you have a memory issue.. you need to have at least 12 mb of free space for the phone to operate smothly.. if you havent got one yet get a memory card and move your pics and videos to memory card. along with any downloaded ringtones.. to find out what your file free status is click on options --> status and see what your file free is..another thing that might help is do a battery pull then do above step.. also make sure you dont have any internet programs running in background IE: weatherbug.. cause it continuously downloads data.. clear your browser history by going to an open browser clicking menu then options then cache and clear your history.. there are other steps to help but i cant think of any at the moment..

Features missing from iOS 5 (3GS)

I upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPhone 3GS.
I am missing two features that I did not think were reported to be missing on the 3GS with the iOS update.
First - I am missing the option for a location based reminder. I have the option for a time-based reminder, but nothing for a location. Location services is on, but I do not have a listing under location services for the reminders app, to selectively toggle that. I am registered with iCloud as well. This seemed to affect it for other people (or so says google), but still does not give the option for location based reminders on my phone.
Second - I do not have a listing for Earthquake alerts in my notification center settings. I know this is only available to people in Japan and I DO live in Japan. This iPhone 3GS was purchased in Japan and runs on the Softbank wireless network. I DO have it set to English as a system language (with various Japanese keyboards enabled), and if that is affecting the ability to natively receive Earthquake notices, I am really disappointed in Apple. I DID try switching my device's language to Japanese, but still did not have a toggle for Earthquake notifications.
What gives? These are probably the two features I was looking forward to most, and I don't have them and I don't know why.

I don't have a 3GS so don't know if the reminders feature is missing or not. But on my iPhone 4S it was missing until I turned on iCloud syncing for reminders. There is another discussion thread on this topic you should check out: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16335763#16335763.

Restore reminders from itunes?

Somehow iCloud seems to have lost all (100?) reminders. When I open reminders (on both iphone and mac), the "Reminders" heading is missing (although [email protected] may have replaced the heading?), as are all of the actual reminders.
Anyone know if there's a way to restore Reminders from an iTunes backup or any other method?

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library.
You might have to restore it from a backup.

N8 - Birthdate don't display in calendar

can anyone please tell me how can i configure my N8 to automatically transfer the birthdates from contacts to calendar in order to get reminders.

I usually type the birthdate after the name... No other way (except 3rd party applications). S60 phone Calendars do not auto-count the age, nor they tend to keep the start date for the task...

Notification Light 5630 XM

I noticed the Notification Light of my 5630 XM does not flash for new emails. It only flashes for SMS and missed calls. Since this is a smartphone it would be nice to have that feature (like it exists for E71 where you can even set if you want it to flash for sms, missed calls, email, calendar events). This is a very practical feature of the Blackberry which saves you from opening phone all the time. Any chance this would come in a future upgrade ?

you might be able to adjust this in the settings- phone- scroll down to notification lights and click on notification light tab and in there you should have duration and events notified. at least that is how it look on my phone. did you try it?

How to sync contacts between iCloud and Outlook without iCloud moving the contacts

When synching Contacts between Outlook and iCloud, iCloud moves away the Outlook contacts from the default directory, to a newly created data file.
This issue already existed with MobileMe Calendar, and now seems to have been "adopted" for the Contacts as well in iCloud.
This causes me many issues, including synching the same data with other devices and other PC's.
Any work around?

Apples iCloud is not working with Outlook as it is making new folders isolated from the standard folder *.pst.
I have tested intensely and moved back to Google Sync (calendar) and iTunes (contacts, notes) as they sync properly with the standard folders in Outlook. Reminders sync still missing. Shame on Apple for delivering such a nonsens to us.

N95 - display switches off

Hi, I have a problem with N95 display - when the lcd light is on, it works.... but as soon as the light goes off, the display switches off... so there is no screensaver with time and sms/missed calls icons... Even during a call, after a few seconds (exactly as I have set in settings to switch off light) the display switches off... Do you have any idea where could be the problem, please? The LCD was changed, so does there exist a possibility, it is a faulty LCD?

If the display is working ok when active, then there is unlikely to be anything wrong with it, check the settings in personalisation. Menu>tools>settings>general>personalisation>themes>power saver, and tick Date and time !

every single update so far was pathetic attemp to fool us and make us happy.
there is no change at all from v30,31, and 32. exect the slightly smaller font for text input in v32.
nokia promises alot in the new update, (browser, smiler and map)
hope it leaves up to the expectation and include the portrait qwerty,homescreen and lockscreen.
Why is it so hard to implement?
slide to unlock and homescreen is already available in c6, and the portrait qwerty is available in 5800.
its no like we are asking for impossible like continuous autofocus for video recording!!

Customizing The Top Bar...

Is it possible to add the date in the top bar where it shows the carrier and 3G?
And when a mail or text message comes in? The reason is that when you have
the screen saved in and before you enter your password, the only part visible is the top bar...

No, there are no settings to adjust that. You can submit a feature request to Apple:

The date seems like a reasonable addition; however, if you have a passcode lock set, I would expect that no other information, even a text message counter (certainly not its content), should be shown. Without the passcode lock, SMS, missed calls, etc., do show on the screen prior to the unlock.

Pretty much the way I feel too. This phone is much more "finished" than my last phone (Samsung Omnia) so the need for TLC from Samsung is considerably less, thank goodness.
I did find a rather decent work-around for the lack of an LED notification. Try the NoLED app. I actually prefer it to a simple LED because it is customizeable for differnt types of notifications (SMS, missed call, etc...)

Asha 200 removing sim manager from display

Is it at all posible to remove sim manager display so there would be no writing of operator choices on screen. Ultimately my goal is to have clean screen if possible. Thank you!

Thank you for your post. You cannot hide the operator network display from the screen; tips will be to keep it clear from unread items such as sms, missed call and voicemail or email alert.

The locked screen does not show icons of any kind.... what it shows is the notifications when you have emails, SMS, missed calls.... and even those are only shown when enabled from within the settings.
