Remodelling cube for Time characterstics

Hi All
Can we do remodelling for A cube with Time characterstics. I am trying to add Fiscal year to existing cube with remodelling option. But it is giving error message"please enter a valid value for characteristic ". Can you please help me to understand which char/KF we can remodel.

You can model everything in the cube - Char , KF , Time Character.
Just delete the data with Dimension & edit cibe. Reactivate & reload the data.

Wrong data in cube for time dependent nav attribute

Hi Experts,
I am facing a strange problem.
One of the navigational attr used in one cube was not time dependent before.
Now we have changed it to time dependent.
But after that the cube is fetching wrong data for the nav attr.
In the Master data table (Q table) data is fine.
Kindly suggest.

Hi Debjani,
As Federico said, when you display the content of the cube (or when you execute a query) you enter the reference date on which the time-dependant attribute will be searched. This unique reference date will be used whatever the cube data is.
Ex :if the reference date is 2010/02/14, you will have the time-dep attribute value for 2010/02/14,for 2011 data, 2010 data or whatever.
If you want to change dynamically the reference date depending on a date on the cube, things become a lot more difficult. The only possibility I can think of is "virtual characteristics" (you will find a lot of litterature on the subject on sdn).

PP - Cube for Actual Capacity Utilization (in hours per confirmation)

Hi,
I need to extract the exact operation confirmation times for PP orders from ECC6. For example, if a single order started at 11:00am and then was confirmed twice before being finished in the evening, the client wants to see the actual times used for each operaiton. This way they want to subtract from 24 hours and see the idle time of the production operation.
For this purpose I have checked all the cubes under 'Production/process orders' infoarea. The cube '0PP_C03 Plan/Actual Comparison Operation/Work Center View' seems to have the operation time but in days. This is first of all causing a rounding off problem and secondly it does not show the time gaps between confirmations on the same operation.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Method 1 :
1- Create a one Multi provider .
2- Copy the standard cube 0PP_C03 and make your own Cube with necessary fields ( enhance it as per your requirement ).
This New Cube should be Virtual Cube .
3- Create a Report on Mutiprovider ( which you created in step1 )
4-select the relevant char and key figure as per requirement .
5- you can use the selection and formula in report for time difference ..
In this method restrict the query on virtual cube only .
Method 2 :
From R/3 you have record like this :
Operation 1( O1) ---> 11:00 :00
Operation 1( O1) --> 14:00:00
Operation 2( O2) --> 10:30:00
Operation 2( O2) --> 13:30:00
1- Create a one Key figure with Data Type TIMS .
2- Include this key figure in the Cube which you have created in above steps ( Method1 )
3-Write a routine to fillt he data for Keyfigure ..if O1 record find calculate time difference .
4-Now you have time difference in BW for operation
5-Add new keyfigure in MP and use in Report .

There is a standard cube for 0SEM_BCS_10?

Hi guys. I`m willng to use 0SEM_BCS_10 to get data fo preparation to consolidation. But I didn't find a standard infocube to get these data that cames from 0SEM_BCS_10..it will be a "staging" cube where the BCS cube (0BCS_C10) will get data by data stream ...do anyone know if there is this standard cube or I will have to create a Z?

There is no standard cube for this datasource. You have to create a Z-cube. And please use more searching in the forum. I answered such a question a couple of times before.

Best practices for loading apo planning book data to cube for reporting

Hi,
I would like to know whether there are any Best practices for loading apo planning book data to cube for reporting.
I have seen 2 types of Design:
1) The Planning Book Extractor data is Loaded first to the APO BW system within a Cube, and then get transferred to the Actual BW system. Reports are run from the Actual BW system cube.
2) The Planning Book Extractor data is loaded directly to a cube within the Actual BW system.
We do these data loads during evening hours once in a day.

What I have normally seen is:
1) Data would be extracted from APO Planning Area to APO Cube (FOR BACKUP purpose). Weekly or monthly, depending on how much data change you expect, or how critical it is for business. Backups are mostly monthly for DP.
2) Data extracted from APO planning area directly to DSO of staging layer in BW, and then to BW cubes, for reporting.
For DP monthly, SNP daily
You can also use the option 1 that you mentioned below. In this case, the APO cube is the backup cube, while the BW cube is the one that you could use for reporting, and this BW cube gets data from APO cube.
Benefit in this case is that we have to extract data from Planning Area only once. So, planning area is available for jobs/users for more time. However, backup and reporting extraction are getting mixed in this case, so issues in the flow could impact both the backup and the reporting. We have used this scenario recently, and yet to see the full impact.

corresponding last year.
I have Fiscal year,Fiscal year variant,Fiscal year/period and
Posting period. Based on these time characterstics i have to
calculate the above time characterstics in reporting level.
Can any suggest me any SAP Exit?

HI Pradsa,
I assume you are getting input from user, there are standard variables you can use instead of devloping your own, save maintenance. Just right click on your time characteristics, you would find a few standard SAP variables, they are commonly quite useful.
Fiscal year: For current year, you can use 0P_FYEAR, then in the last year key figure, simply use user the same input and offset it with -1(let me know if you have trouble use this feature) to get previous year.
Posting period: use variable 0P_PER3 to get the current fiscal period. By combining fiscal year input from user (method suggested in Fiscal year above), you get current month & year (0P_PER3 and 0P_FYEAR) and current month of previous fiscal year (0P_PER3 and 0P_FYEAR w offset -1).
Fiscal year/period: current fiscal year/period is entered by user via variable 0P_FPER, then simply use the same user input and offset it by -12 to get current month of previous year.
Please excuse me if you already know all of these, let me know you would still prefer ABAP option rather using standard variables.

One info package to two cubes- dataloading time on each cube?

1.we had One infosource - one info package - sending data to 2 info cubes.now we need to figure it out how much time is taken for 2 individual cubes
for ex: data laod time is 10 mins how can we figure out which cube is consuming more time or less time?( acube 7 min and bcube 3 mins )
2.how do we find out the cubeload time..
from psa to transfer str,transfer str to comm str & from comm str to cube like this we need to make report on time consuming at each phase..( time splits between two stages )

ramesh,
there's no straight way to do this. you're going to have to open the monitoring for that infosource, click on the details tab, go to the processing (data packet)->update rules, and manually compute how long each data package took transferring into a cube. (compare the time of the start of processing update rules and end of processing update rules for a certain data target)

can we display Cube refresh time and date for user with out going into the Cube properties. Can we use any substitution variable for that?

Will there be any systen defined default substitution variable in Essbase or anly user defined variables. IF there what are they and purpose of it?

After the successful cube building, you can capture the time stamp from the system into a variable and you can set the note on database.
suppose below is the maxl script updatetime.mxl
login $1 identified by $2 on $3 ;
spool on to $4 ;
alter database $5.$6 set note $7 ;
logout ;
spool off ;
exit ;
you can call the script like
essmsh updatetime.mxl <<userid>> <<pwd>> <<server>> <<spoolfile>> <<appname>> <<dbname>> <<updatetime>>

Improve cube process time

Hi,
I am processing cube with process full. its taking around 15 mins. I planned to improve this by adding indexes to the database. I used SQL Trace while processing & later used the result to the database tuning advisor to get recommendations. I got the
recommendations & i have included those changes to the Database & then processed the cube but there is no improvement. I even tried to get the expensive queries from the trace & run in SSMS with Query execution plan but I am not able to figure
out. Please help.

According to your description, you want to improve the cube processing. Right?
In Analysis Services, cube processing is performed in Analysis Services by executing Analysis Services-generated SQL statements against the underlying relational database. Here we have some advices on improving the cube processing:
Use integer keys if at all possible
Use query binding to optimize processing
Partition measure groups if you have a lot of data
Use ProcessData and ProcessIndex instead of ProcessFull

HT201250 Can I partition my external hard drive and use one partion for time machine and the other one for data that i may want to use in different computers?

I have this doubt. I've just bought an external drive, especifically a Seagate GoFlex Desk 3 tb.
I want to know if it is recomendable to make a partion exclusively for time machine and let another one so I can put there music, photos, videos, etc that I should need to use or copy to another computer.
May half and half, 1.5 tb for time machine and 1.5 tb for data.
I have an internal hard drive of 500 GB (499.25 GB) in my macbook pro.
Any recommendation?

As I said, yes. Be sure your Time Machine partition has at least 1 TB for backups.
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to two (2). Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

Can I use my time capsule for time machine back ups and as an external storage device?

I have a time capsule and have set it up so that my time machine back ups are saved on it, but I would also like to use it as an external hard drive. Is this possible?
I know nothing about computers so please tell me in very basic terms. thankyou!

By external hard disk we usually mean one plugged into the computer by USB or Firewire or Thunderbolt.
None of those works on the TC.. it is plugged in by ethernet or use wireless connection.. that means it is a network drive.. not an external drive. The difference might not mean much to you.. but it is totally different to the computer. In the former case the computer has full control of the disk. In the case of the network drive, the disk is controlled by the TC firmware and the files are stored and accessed by network. This has large implications.
So here is my standard response.
Store files on the TC.
This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
Major issues.
1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no control. In fact the TC is so lacking in controls for even the router side.. that you cannot do more than the most basic of setups.
The following are controls on the hard disk side.
Reformat it. You can name the share. You can do a full archive of the whole disk. This will go at a speed of aprox. 30-50GB/Hr so calculate how long an archive of a full 2TB will take.
4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!

5. iTunes can constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.

My external hard drive is 'seen' by my iMac and I can go into the Finder and open files and folders. I am using the hard drive for Time Machine back up. However Time Machine says it can't find the drive. Same thing has happened with Final Cut Express.
