Remote 5508 Standby Controller HA-SKU

How does the standby HA-SKU controller that is located remotely miles away maintains it's heartbeat while serving as backup to multiple sites.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support Android App

Hi Michael,
There are different deployments of HA with the HA-SKU.
1) You have AP-SSO/Client-SSO this is where the controllers are 1 - 1 sync and not 1 to multiple.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/7-5/High_Availability_DG.html
2) You have HA N+1 backup. This is where the WLC turned into HA converts to MAX licenses and acts like a fullly licensed controller. You can back up 1 to many in this design.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/hi_avail/N1_High_Availability_Deployment_Guide/N1_HA_Overview.html
Hope this helps

  • Adding second 5508 Wireless Controller, how to best configure for load balancing and redundancy?

We recently purchased a second 5508 wireless controller (both licensed for 100+ AP's).  What is the easiest way to configure and add the second controller so I can split the load between the 2 controllers and provide failover capability?  I do not want to run in an active/standby mode since that will effectively cut our AP capacity by half even with both controllers running.
Should I just manually configure the new controller (long and drawn out process to configure all the parameters), backup the current controller configuration and import to the second controller (then change the ip address) or is their an easier way to cause the two controllers to synchronize the configurations?
We are currently running 7.0.240.0 on our active controller and I would rather not upgrade it until we get the new controller online so I can have less downtime and fail AP's between controllers.
    What can you recommend?
    Jim

I'm assuming then, when I update the software on the controllers I won't be able to choose which controller is primary for an AP anymore and will lose access to the 100 AP licenses (and the capability to have 100 AP's registered, 100 licenses on each Controller).
Read the Deployment Guide.  It should mention that you can choose which controller is the "primary" and which one is the "secondary".
If I'm not concerned about quick failover can I still assign a primary and secondary controller for each AP and utilize all 200 AP licenses that are split between the 2 controllers?
You sure can.  But this "old school" method is a very expensive method.  Why?  Because this means that you have two controllers with similar AP licenses.  The newer AP SSO means one controller has a full license and the other has only an HA SSO license, which is a lot cheaper.

then again I connected redundent link but second wlc does not come in ha, it still remain in mantainance mode.
What is the configuration that device goes to mantainance mode to HA Mode automatically. withought reboot mantainance controller.

After executing the above statement in my production primary database will there be any performance HIT.
And another important is that my above statement shouldn't affect my remote physical DR database.
Just the local DR should get converted into logical standby database

Monoj DasIn any Data Guard environment, you can have either physical or logical or even mixed[physical + logical]
There will be no performance issue if you run the package for logical standby DBMS_LOGSTDBY.BUILD , This package provides you to manage even logical standby database.

  • Samsung Smart TV Remote and Standby Mode

Hi All - A few months ago I got a Samsung Smart TV that came with a pretty nice remote. It really can control almost all aspects of the FiOS service, but there are a few commands I cannot figure out how to get it to send to the FiOS STB.
First off, when I power on the TV, the STB is still in Stanby mode. It asks for me to "Press Menu to Watch ...". I cannot figure out how to get the Samsung remote to send that command or to disable standby mode on the STB. There is no menu button on this remote that's not TV-specific.
Second, I can't figure out how to bring up the full guide using the remote. By pressing the "up" direction on the four-way button, I get some smaller version of a guide, but I would prefer to see the standard full screen guide.
Finally, is there a way to get to the On Demand and DVR menus using the Samsung remote?
Anway, that's the the scoop. Most other featuers (DVR, etc) work pretty well.
The remote I'm using is a RMCTPF1AP1 and the STB is running version 1.9.7 and build 19.45. It's a QIP7232.
Thanks in advance for any guidance on getting this working.
    Dave

I'm not sure if you are turning the STB off or if the idle timer is doing it.
No reason to turn the STB off as it doesn't save any energy.
So leaving it on would alleviate one issue.

  • Redirect to web authentication not working on Cisco 5508 Wireless Controller

    Hi,
I have a wlan with web authentication:
    http://i55.tinypic.com/w145zk.png
    and
    http://i51.tinypic.com/344sfm0.png
When I connect to  the SSID (I get correct IP from the Cisco 5508 Controller) and try to  surf, I do not get redirected to the web authentication page (https://1.1.1.1/login.html), when I manually insert the URL I get "cannot display the webpage". Any idea?
    The virtual interface is 1.1.1.1.
Here is a screenshot of interface and internal dhcp:
    http://i52.tinypic.com/2vkm1d2.png
Any idea why clients are not redirecting?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply dmantil!
When I changed the Virtual DNS name to 1.1.1.1 (the same as the IP) I get redirected if I use http://198.133.219.25, but not with http://cisco.com, I get redirected only if I use IP.
I forgot to mention that the controller is in a lab with no access to DNS server. Does the controller check if the domain is valid before redirecting users? I cant find any documentation on how the controller redirect users.

  • Cisco 5508 Wireless Controller in HA mode

    Hello,
is there a support of 1+1 mode (HA mode) at 5508 Controller?

  • Cisco 5508 Wireless Controller with Splash Page Disclaimer

How do one configure a splash disclaimer page on a Cisco Wireless Controller 5508 with no authentication?
    Jimmy

There are many options to you in this scenario, but if you're looking to simply provide a splash page via the WLC without interacting with any other web servers, you can configure Local Web Authentication (LWA) as seen in this configuration example.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wlan-security/69340-web-auth-config.html?referring_site=RE&pos=1&page=http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wlan-security/71881-ext-web-auth-wlc.html
If you are not wanting the authentication, you can choose the "passthrough" method which will not require any credentials, only accepting an AUP or whatever you want.

  • 1510 Mesh A.P with 5508 WLAN Controller

    Hi everyone,
I got a situation. We had our wireless mesh network running with 4400 Controller and 1510 A.Ps. Now that we have bought new 5508 Controller (with SW: 7.2) and 3600 Indoor APs, we are unable to add legacy APs on our new controller. After a wild googling I have found that for 1510 APs i need to be on SW ver: 4.0. But that will lead into another situation i-e I wont be able to have my 3600 APs on WLAN Controller.
Any suggessions/wise words will be very very obliged....
    Thanks,
    Azhar...

You would have to keep those 440's up and have all the WLC in the same mobility group. That is the only way to keep those 1510's up and running. Cusco usually supports mobility between different version but only really as far back as 2 versions. Might work though.

  • Cisco WLC 5508 WLAN Controller

is ist poosible the to create more than one LAG portgroup or binds the controller all 8 ports automatically in the same group? My idea is to cerate a 3 groups for 3 costumers with  2GB uplinks to the bachground network.
When it comes to WLC, it's either you turn on LAG or you don't.  You can only have one LAG.
Here's what we've done in our deployment:
We have a single outbound interface, let's call it INTERNET.  We have multiple sites.  So we create multiple dynamic interface with specific DHCP server.
We have created a PERL script and it's attached to our LINUX RADIUS box which specifies that all traffic goes out the INTERNET dynamic interface, however, each client gets an IP address based on the site where they come from.
