Remote access issues in Windows 8.1

I regularly carry out maintenance work on PCs connected to an SBS 2011 server using RWA followed by picking the required PC at the right hand side and logging in. If I use a Windows 7 workstation on my home network I get perfect RDP connections every
time. On the same home network using a Windows 8.1 machine, I can log into RWA, and the OWA facility works fine, but if I select a desktop from the list at the right, the login dialogue appears but does not work - the screen flashes rapidly after the
log in button is clicked then the login dialogue returns and I do not get a connection.
I am discussing the purchase of a set of six Microsoft Surface Pros for staff members who need to be away from the office, but must be able to control their office desktop machines remotely - with Windows 8.1 on board the Surface Pros will not work.
What am I missing?

Hi Ed,
Sorry for my interrupting.
Based on your description, I understand that
Connect to Computer feature of RWA didn’t ran as normal when user log on Windows 8.1 client computer.
Since Remote Desktop Gateway (RDP Gateway) is the technology used on the backend to accomplish the
Connect to Computer functionality in SBS 2011 Standard. RD Gateway allows TS clients to establish secure connections over SSL (443) using RPC Proxy, also known as RDP over HTTPS. So, just a confirmation, would you please open Event Viewer in the Windows
8.1 and SBS 2011 and check if find relevant events.
à
How do I report this?
Please check following website if can help you.

If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

  • LMS 4.0 Remote Access Issue

My issues is that I cannot remotely access my LMS 4.0 installation. On the server itself, the UI comes up immediately (via https) in a browser. If I browse to the server using http (from the server itself), it redirects to https and comes right up also.I'm using a 3rd party (Thawte) certificate which seems to be installed properly - certificate info is retrievable from the browser address bar.
When browsing to it from a desktop, the attempted connection times out.
My normal method is to point to the server's FQDN (it resolves fine via nslookup of ping servername) but I have also tried using the server's IP in the URL, still no success. I captured the traffic from my desktop at the server using Wireshark. I see the incoming https traffic (syn, syn, syn - never an outgoing ack).
    Suggestions?
    addendum:
The system is listening on port 443. Partial output for "netstat -a" follows:
    Active Connections
Proto  Local Address          Foreign Address        State
      TCP    0.0.0.0:22             CiscoWorks:0           LISTENING
      TCP    0.0.0.0:135            CiscoWorks:0           LISTENING
      TCP    0.0.0.0:443            CiscoWorks:0           LISTENING

This sounds like a host-based firewall preventing the SYNs from making it up the stack.  Disable all IPS functions on the server (e.g. Windows Firewall), then see if you can access the server from remote.

  • Time Capsule files remote access on Microsoft windows 7

    Hi,
I have been always a Microsoft Windows user (currently with a laptop and a desktop) but now I have bought a MacBook air. I am planning to acquire a time capsule mainly for 2 reasons: backup my hard drive data (Stored in Windows 7 computers) and enable remote access away from home (my personal cloud ?).
In order to acquire a Time capsule, do I have to buy additional equipment such as the Airport Extreme ? At the current moment I have a standard wifi router supplied by my local ISP.
I have read many posts related with my problem but almost all of them are addressed to Mac systems. Please can help me if it is possible to enable this (or any) solution so that my Win7 laptop can remotely access to the time capsule.
Thank you very much from a very novice mac user.

You cannot remotely access the TC from windows.. safely.
Let me explain. The TC really only offers AFP for remote access.. all the normal formats are missing. TC is not a NAS.. if you want a NAS buy Synology or QNAP, not TC. They will happily work with both Mac and Windows. A TC will not.
The work arounds are using vpn.. buy a VPN router to replace the ISP one.. The TC will be in bridge mode.
Some people make suggestions of using SMB (windows file protocol) over the internet.. this is very very unsafe.. SMB is blocked by the vast majority of ISP because it is so unsafe.. but people use it on non-standard ports. These will eventually be discovered and hacked. You have almost zero security.
You really need to use the Air or some device that uses AFP.. remember apple build their stuff for apple.. with the occasional glance at the rest of the world.
TC is a combined router and hard disk but that is of no help to you. It will simply not allow SMB access on the WAN port.

  • N95 + One Touch Access issue on Windows Vista Busi...

    Hi all,
I searched for a solution to this issue both in this forum and in the Nokia PC Suite help but I couldn't find any.
I'm able to use Nokia PC Suite with my N95 + cable DKE-2 except for One Touch Access.
When I clic on "Connect to the Internet" I get the following error message pop up:
"You do not have sufficient privileges to modify the connection properties. Only Administrators can create and modify connections."
The funny thing is that I am an Admnistrator of my notebook (I don't know how many times I checked it from the Advanced User Accounts Control Panel).
If I clic "Ok" I get the One Touch Access window with the following message:
"There are no Nokia modems installed. Please make sure you have installed Nokia Connectivity Cable driver software."
And below the picture of the notebook and the base station:
    "No modem found!"
But if I check in the Device Manager (Control Panel) list I find "Nokia N95 USB Modem #2".
Moreover, as far as I understood, the cable driver is automatically installed with the Nokia PC Suite and I shouldn't reinstall it: http://europe.nokia.com/A4144937.

I've had the same problem but it was not solved by installing PC Suite 6.84 (as this failed to install), however this is how I got around it.
Find the "OneTouchAccess.exe" program. It should be in C:/Program Files/Nokia/Nokia PC Suite 6/. Right-click the "OneTouchAccess.exe" program icon and go to ‘Properties’, then click the ‘Compatibility’ tab. Under ‘Privilege Level’, select ‘Run this program as administrator’ and click ‘OK’.
Then when "PC Suite" tries to launch "OneTouchAccess.exe" via the "Connect to the Internet" icon, it does so with the right privilieges.
(Any body know why PC Suite 6.84 would not install on my Acer notebook running Windows Vista V6.0 Build 6000?)

  • Remote access to a Windows-based network at work from my Mac

I am told that https://remote.xxx.com/remote should work.

I do have a username and password, so that using
https://remote.company domain name/remote gets me, via Microsoft Exchange, to a web login window entitled web Office Outlook Login where I put my username and password.  I can access company mail and there are buttons for email and file access.  The email access works.  The file access doesn't.

  • Remote Access to a Windows PC

On my MacBook Pro I run VMWare Fusion so I can boot up in Windows and remote desktop in to my Windows PC at the Office.
Is there an app which would let me do this connect to a Window PC and remote desktop in?

Most versions of Windows since XP include built-in remote desktop via RDP (remote desktop protocol). All you have to do is get a RDP client for your iOS device. No additional software is necessary on your desktop PC. The RDP client I use (and really like) is iTap RDP.

  • L2TP Remote Access disconnects after a few hours.

Have a few users on Vista/7 using Windows L2TP to connect to our ASA5510. It is reported that after a few hours the connection drops. From what I have seen this can be anywhere around 5-6 hours. Of course my connection will drop after an amount of time has passed and no traffic has passed the tunnel. But the users are adament that this drops during large transfers; i.e. not a timeout issue.
Before I spend anymore time on this I just want to know if this is normal behavior for a remote access L2TP using Windows to disconnect on it's own after this amount of time. Never had a reason myself to remain connected that long, and when I did I used a site 2 site tunnel.

Below is a sample log of the time when disconnects occur, I highlighted in bold the problem area.

  • Routing and remote access logging to SQL server

    Hi!
I am in the process of trying to set up SQL logging from routing and remote access on a windows server 2003 to another windows server 2003 which is running microsoft SQL server 2005.
What i did was i created a database named RRAS in the sql server and in routing and remote access i went under remote access logging and configured it, when i press "test connection" it says its successful. and when i check the local logfile i successfully
configured i can see my connection attempts towards the RRAS. but in the sql database there's nothing, no tables or anything.
I am sure i have the right permissions going on since i have only been using one account for everything so far(created the rras and the sql database), the SQL server is operational(it has a myriad of other databases that are used on a dailybasis).
So i am wondering what component is missing? do i need to create the tables manually, is there a guide that tells me how to do that?

    Hi Plindgren,
    Thanks for posting here.

  • How do I remotely access a friend's Windows XP desktop using my ibook?

I hope I am posting this question in the right forum/thread:
I am not quite a newbie on the Mac, however when it comes to issues such as remote access, virtual private networks, etc., I am pretty much lost. I've even poured over the posts here to see if they answer any of my questions, but confusion is setting in, so I thought I'd just put my question out there to see if anyone can give me a simple answer:
I have a friend who keeps having trouble with anything and everything to do with her Windows XP computer, from passwords to router/modem configurations. When she calls, I need to stop everything I'm doing and drive to her house to try to resolve her issue. It would save me (and her) a lot of energy and heartache if I could merely remotely access her computer (she has windows xp home edition) to help her out.
What is the best way to remotely access her PC from my MAC?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Exchange Server 2013 and Remote Access VPN on a single server running Windows Server 2012?

Just by way of background, I have been installing and administering network servers, e-mail systems, VPN servers, and the like for many years.  However, my involvement with Exchange and Windows Server has been mostly on the forensics and data recovery
level, or as a (sophisticated) user.  I have never tried to deploy either from scratch before.  My deployment experiences have been mostly with Linux in recent years, and with small private or personal "servers" running such cutting edge
software as Windows XP back when it was new.  And even NetWare once.
When a client asked me if I could set up a server for his business, running Exchange Server (since they really want Outlook with all of its bells and whistles to work, particularly calendars) and providing VPN access for a shared file store, I figured it
could not be too difficult given that its a small business, with only a few users, and nothing sophisticated in the way of requirements.  For reasons that don't bear explaining here, he was not willing to use a vendor hosting Exchange services or cloud
storage.  There is no internal network behind the server; it is intended to be a stand-alone server, hanging off a static IP address on the Internet, providing the entirely mobile work-force of about 10 people with Exchange-hosted e-mail for their computers
and phones, a secure file store, and not much else.  If Exchange didn't need it, I would not need to install Active Directory, for example.  We have no direct need for its services.
So I did the research and it appears, more by implication than outright assertion, that I should be able to run Windows Server 2012 with Exchange Server 2013 on a server that also hosts Remote Access (VPN only) and does nothing else.  And it appears
I ought to be able to do it without virtualizing any of it.  However, I have spent the last three or four days fighting one mysterious issue after another.  I had Remote Access VPN working and fairly stable very quickly (although it takes a very
long time to become available after the server boots), and it has mostly remained reliable throughout although at times while installing Exchange it seems to have dropped out on me.  But I've always been able to get it back after scrounging through the
logs to find out what is bothering it.  I have occasionally, for a few minutes at a time, had Exchange Server willing to do everything it should do (although not always everything at the same time).  At one point I even received a number of e-mails
on my BlackBerry that had been sent to my test account on the Exchange Server, and was able to send an e-mail from my BlackBerry to an outside account.
But then Exchange Server just stopped.  There are messages stuck in the queues, among other issues, but the Exchange Administration Center refuses now to display anything (after I enter my Administrator password, I just get a blank screen, whether on
    the server or remotely).
So, I am trying to avoid bothering all of you any more than I have to, but let me just begin with the basic question posed in the title: Can I run Exchange Server (and therefore Active Directory and all of its components) and Remote Access (VPN only) on
a single Windows Server 2012 server?  And if so, do I have to run virtual machines (which will require adding more memory to the server, since I did not plan for it when I purchased it)?  If it can be done, can anyone provide any pointers on what
the pitfalls are that may be causing my problems?  I am happy to provide whatever additional information anyone might like to help figure it out.
    Thanks!

An old thread but I ran into this issue and thought I share my solution since I ran into the same issue. Configuring VPN removes the HTTPS 443 binding on the Default Site in IIS for some strange reason; just go and editing the bindings, add HTTPS and things
    should be back to normal.
