Remote app-iPhone

Downloaded remote app and it used to work and now it's not recognizing either TV. Any suggestions

Suffered for 50 minutes on this one today!
Finally got everything to work by digging a truck-sized hole through my firewall.
In my case I had to enable Bojour service- was for some reason disabled in my windows startup, can re-enable by Start>Run>services.msc and make sure Bonjour is set to automatic and start it.
Also had to open up my AVG antivirus firewall settings and make sure Bonjour was not blocked.
Also had to set my iphone's wifi ip address as a 'safe network' in AVG firewall settings.
ALSO had to go into my router settings and specify a new application rule for routing: In the case of my D-Link DGL4300 I chose Advanced>Gaming>Add Game Rule, then gave it 'itunes remote' as name, chose my computer ip for the IP Address, then 3689 for TCP and 5353 for UDP, and Allow All. Saved that.
Restarted iTunes and whattya know, it just worked (and I was never ever asked to enter that 4 digit passcode anywhere, soooo have no clue what the point of it is).

If you add music videos to Up Next playlist, then go to look at the album cover playing screen, then go to add another song from different playlist, you no longer can see Up Next, just go to full screen mode button. Using remote app iPhone 5 to play out of iTunes. It looks like it works fine for regular music, but for music videos you can't see your up next unless you go back on the computer to change once you've left the screen. When using the remote app, you shouldn't need to go to iTunes on the PC to view or edit Up Next already added. See first image, you can hit upper right and get back to Up Next (second image). Third image is music video, where you can't get back to Up Next, just swap between full screen and not. I hoped 3.0.1 would have the answer, no luck!

Add the ability to randomly select a new background from a pre selected group of photos every time the player is turned on or each day.
I would love that feature. I can't stand useing my computer with a single wall paper anymore (I have 500 anime pics that i rotate between every 2 mins ) If you could make the vision rotate background every x minutes or every time the player is turned on, it would be totally amazeningly sweet!!!! (i might have to go out and buy one then :P)
I just hope that creative has better firmware support with the vision than they have had with the touch.
Once again, great review

• TS1741 Remote App iPhone 4/MacBook Pro 13in.

My remote device doesn't appear once I've connected my iPhone, how do I configure this?

teefster,
not sure this helps; but, I've found that if the remote app doesn't connect I close it out (double pressing the home button and 'sliding up' the remote app (ios7)) Then when I restart the remote app - it seems to connect.
Same behavoir now on my iPad since I've update the remote app. Ironically itunes recognizes the ipad WITHOUT having to 'p'air it'! My iphone 5S must be paired to itunes =:0
now that all our iphones are on the most current version of ios7 and have the most current version of the remote app - the connect to itunes is now glitchy; but, still usable with the aforementioned work around. Ironcially, when either the ios7 OR the remote we just the most previous version they seemed to connect to my itunes without issue.
BTW - see this thread for help on down reving your remote app:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/23946928#23946928
Agreed Apple seems a little remiss in the supporting the backward compatibilty of the app.
thanks for taking the time to reply!

• Remote App: iPhone not showing up under devices

I have the older iphone and have the newest versions of iTunes and the Remote app.
I have the "Look for iPhones" under devices checked
I have sharing checked.
I changed my firewalls to the third radio and allowed incoming for iTunes.
I've tried starting the Remote app first, and then opening iTunes and vice versa.
Yes, they are on the same wifi connection.
I'm stumped. Why isn't my iPhone showing up?

• Home sharing for iPhone 4; Remote App

Am using Windows XP desktop which is connected to router with Ethernet and my iPhone 4 uses the Wi-Fi.
Got latest version of iTunes.
Latest version of Remote.app
iPhone OS 4.3.3, not 4.3.5
I followed this guide to implement the inbound settings since it isn't available on Windows XP the way it is available on Windows 7:-
no-ip . com/support/guides/routers/configuring_windows_xp_firewall.html
The port number i entered for TCP is 3689 and named it as bounjourport(the name shouldn't matter).
mDNSResponder.exe is also running.
And am still unable to locate my iPhone in iTunes for 'Remote App'. Actually there isn't any "Devices" list present on iTunes, though it appears when i connect the phone with USB. Also tried port forwarding on router, still no change.
Please help!!
**My previous phone was Sony Ericsson w995 which supported DLNA and i could access my phone files through the same PC with Ethernet connection to the router, so i guess this should be possible for iPhone too.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone help me please?

• AiO Remote app on iPad/iPhone does not find M1217nfw

Hi,
I have a M1217nfw setup on my WiFi network.  I can use Airprint from my iPad or iPhone to print on it - works fine.  However I want to use the AiO Remote app on my iPad or iPhone to scan documents from this printer to my iPad/iPhone.
The problem is that when I try to use the app it tells me that it cannot find any printer!  I upgraded the firmware on the printer - still no go.
I even tried to connect it using the HP Wireless Direct options - still no go.
Treid to connect using the printer's IP address - still no go.
According to the document http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03843137&sp4ts.oid=2... - the M1217nfw is supported by the AiO Remote app.
Any help or clues would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,
vijar

Hi @vijar,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you would like to learn more about HP’s All-in-One Printer Remote app.
I have included the HP All-in-One Printer Remote Mobile App FAQs document. It has a section dedicated to the printers that support this app and the Laserjet 1217nfw printer is not supported by the app.   I have notified the appropriate department regarding the document.

• ITunes and iPhone 'Remote' app, only plays one song at a time

Using iPhone 'Remote' app to control iTunes on Mac. I click on Albums, select an album, select the first track, it plays and then stops and goes back to the albums list. I've tried every conceivable combination of the little icons for Shuffle and track repeat, nothing changes this, it always plays just the track and select and then it's done, it goes back to the tracks list. I've spent hours researching this and cannot get it to work. Thanks for any help.

Hi, although unchecking tracks is one way to manage what gets put on your device it has other side effects that make it less effective than the use of selected playlists. I generally use unchecking for marking tracks I'd usually want to ignore, such as bonus interview tracks on an album, or podcasts that aren't compatible with my device.
It is much easier to use playlists rather than check boxes to manage the content. There is no need to make a series of ad hoc playlists however. You'll need two, one of which you can throw away later. Create a new smart playlist with the rules *Playlist is Music* and the option *Match only checked items* ticked. Call it Checked. Now create regular playlist and call it, for example, Sync. Select all the tracks in Checked (cmd-A I think) and drag them into Sync.
Now you can go to your main music library and cmd-click on an empty checkbox to check all of your tracks so the unchecked behaviour no longer interferes with playback. Change your sync options so that the device syncs with your new playlist. In future you can manage the content by adding and removing things from this list instead of checking and unchecking them.

• Can no longer use the Remote app on iPhone 5 or iPad 1

Hi,
I've long used the Remote app to control my iTunes library which I stream through two Airport Expresses. It's been a great solution for some time.
However, since the latest updates, I can no longer do this. The iTunes library does not show up in the app, only a message telling me to turn on Home Sharing in iTunes.
I have turned Sharing off and on on the iPhone, iPad and iTunes but have had no luck getting it to work.
Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks
Phil

Thanks Linc,
well that *****... I guess I am going to have to reach out to the developers. It does not look like they are doing this anytime soon cause the website is pretty old in itself.
Thanks for the info on this,
Paul

• IPhone 4 Remote App Not working

Hello,
Sorry for posting another 'not working' thread, but having searched the forum I cannot find my answer.
I am not very technical, but I have iTunes and an iPhone 4.
I have the remote app and the app has worked perfectly up until recently.
I have upgraded iTunes to 10 and also my antivirus.
Now I know alot of these things could be caused by the firewall, but I have allowed iTunes to be let through the firewall and I have switched off the firewall in the past to ensure it was not this.
When I switch on the computer and open iTunes then go to the remote app it works. It is when the iPhone 'sleeps' that the library wont re connect, OR if i have been using iTunes and then try and start the remote that it will not work.
Any ideas at all as it is so frustrating. I am not technically minded, so switching router channels etc and proxy settings/DHCP etc dont really make sense to me.
I have tried rebooting everything including the router, but believe it is something simple as it was working prior to iTunes 10.
I am running a PC on Vista
Thanks
Steve

no I use both ipad2 iphone4 with remote app and have no issues with ios
try removing the setup and start over

• TS1741 I have done everything in the Apple help artcle but my iphone 4S remote app doesn't connect to itunes, but my iPad does. Any ideas?

Hi
My Remote app has stopped working on my iphone, I kep getting nthe message to turn on homesharing.  However homesharing is on, and it works on my iPad Any ideas, all software versions are up to date, although I haven't yet updated the iPad.  Hmmmm

I have the same thing. I couldn't get either the iPhone 4 or the iPad 2 to connect until I did a full restart of my wireless router. After doing this, the iPad connected automatically but the iPhone won't. Can't think what else to try. They are both on the same wireless network. Same apple ids being used. Nothing jailbroken, all software is up to date.

• Home Sharing will not work with my Windows 8 64bit with new itunes.  All of my Apple TVs will not see my library and my iphones will not function with the "Remote" App.  They all did before.  Only thing that has changed is new PC/itunes.  Any Ideas?

Installed a new Windows PC on my home network.  PC is Windows 8/64bit. with latest version of itunes 11.1.4.62 for 64bit.  My itunes works, but I can not get Home Sharing to function now.  None of my Apple TV's can see my computer library and prompt me to turn it on.  All of my iphones, pods, pad, can not use the "Remote" app.  When you prompt your phone in Remote App to "add library" and you get the code....iTunes doesnt give you the remote screen where you can enter the code.  I have reloaded iTunes, reset my router, updated all devices.  You can turn on "Home Sharing" on iTunes, but then it closes and doesnt seem to link my devices like it use to.  Also, when the new version of iTunes is up on my PC, you can see the other devices to AirPlay to like you could before.  However, I can send items from my iphone to stream to an Apple TV, I just cant link them all like I could before and control the music playing to multiple Apple TV.  Growing fustrated.  Any ideas, would be helpful.

You are a legend!!  I have spent countless hours uninstalling, reinstalling itunes, playing with firewall settings, reading articles on this problem!!  I only have to un-sync my iphone 5 and then the airplay icon magically appeared!!!  Maybe I have too many devices syncing via wi-fi, or maybe it is the Iphone syncing??
Whatever - one step and now I can enjoy my music through my house again!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

• Remote app on iPhone and multiple speakers - I have to tap multiple times

I have a set-up with an Apple TV, iTunes on my iMac and a PC laptop plus 2 airport expresses throughout the house, all of those connected through airTunes.
This allows me to play music from any of these iTunes/Apple TV to the aiport expresses.
I have been using the remote app for over a year and a glitch seems to have appeared after I added the 2nd airport express (older model , 802.11g only).
Whenever I start the app fresh on my iPhone and need to change the speakers to another destination (from, say, "living room" to "kitchen"), the check mark moves to "kitchen" for a couple of seconds, then back to "living room" (and/or the Apple TV usually). I tap "kitchen again", usually same result. Only after 3 or 4 taps, will it stick to "kitchen" and the music will start.
Not a big problem, just something very annoying.
Any idea?

Am I seriously the only one with this issue? By the way I replaced my old Netgear router with a spanking new Airport Bast Station and the same issue is happening.

• Remote App on iPhone 3G

Hello all I got myself an iPhone 3G (FW 2.2.1 (BB 2.30) (BL 5.9)) and have been very happy with it until this, it's a bit of a strange one.
I downloaded the Remote app from Apple to control my iTunes (8.1.1) on Leopard and it works fine but when i do a sync it's no longer on the iPhone, when I check iTunes it's there, and when I go into the app store it says it's already installed. But I can't find the icon anywhere, I've checked the three pages of icons but nothing, when I delete it from iTunes and install it again from app store it's fine but again disappears. I also did a full restore and am getting the same problems, any ideas.
Cheers
Garret (Ireland)

HI it's checked but i unchecked it synced and checked it again and synced it but still nothing, could it be hidden?
Every single app I have is checked and on the iPhone the Remote app is the only one.

• Remote App on iPhone 3GS unable to access iTunes library

Hi - I'm using an iPhone 3Gs with the latest version of iTunes 8.2(23). The remote app no longer works (it used to on an older iPhone and an older iTunes).
I've read KB article at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1741 and the iPhone and the MacBook have the same router address.
I've re-installed the Remote App and checked the firewall settings on the MBP but still I am unable to connect. I've told iTunes to forget all remotes. I then 'paired' the iPhone with iTunes using the passcode and that worked fine ... until Remote tried to connect to the iTunes library.
Any advice/suggestions would be most welcome.

Rebooting the BT Homehub ADSL router cured the problem

• Remote app on my iphone 5 will not connect to itunes

The remote app stopped working on my iphone 5 and will not connect to itunes. Home sharing is on on itunes and adding new library on my remote iphone app results in veryfying passcode results in the following message on itunes 'the pascode you have entered is incorrect'. I have the feeling that the library is already added but will not connect. Any suggestions are deeply appreciated!

I had the same problem. Reinstalled everything and still nothing. Came across this article:
5 Simple Tricks to Get iTunes to Recognize an iOS Device
Quit and relaunch iTunes
Connect the iOS device to a different USB port on the computer
Reboot the iPhone, iPad, or iPod
Reboot the computer
Use a different syncing cable (if possible)
I changed my syncing cable and it worked! Try that if all else is failing.
