Remote app on a different subnet with a firewall?

Hi
I am trying to figure out if the Remote app will work across a subnet.  I have a 10.x.x.x subnet where the Remote app client (iPhone) sits and the iTunes server lives on 192.x.x.x.  A firewall sits in between.  I've opened up itunes-server:3689(tcp) and itunes-server:9(udp) from the 10.x subnet because I saw those packets being dropped on the firewall.  After I opened up those ports, I then saw broadcasts to 255.255.255.255:9(udp) being dropped which led me to believe this *would not* work as broadcasts typically are subnet-only.  Has anyone tried something like this?  The Remote app works fine when its on the same 192.x network as the itunes-server, so there's no issues there.  I have a captive portal/guest WiFi network (the 10.x) that I also need to use (the iphone), so that's why the setup.
Thx.

Thanks - I obviously missed that in my attempts to RTFM.  This is from the link:

  • Remote App on iPad not working with ATV

The remote app on my iPad (1st gen) was working fine with ATV last week. I noticed when using ATV there was a message about updating the ATV to a new version. I skipped the update each time as I just wanted to watch the program. However, we recently had a power outage which caused the ATV to shut down and I'm assuming launched the update as I didn't see the update message last night. However, I'm not able to use my iPad remote app with ATV any longer. When the remote app launches it indicates that it connected and it sees both ATV's. Yet, there is no ability to control the ATV. My iPhone 4S does not have this problem; It still works perfectly. I also have an iPad 2 and 3 and will check that shortly. Does anyone know for sure if the recent updates caused iOS 5.0 users to loose functionality?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • HT204053 iTunes has synced my apps to a different phone with a different apple id

I gave my old iPhone 4S to my wife a long time ago, and I set up an an iTunes account for her at the time.
When I connect her 4S to iTunes, iTunes tries to sync all my apps to her phone, despite us both having different Applle IDs.
We both have diferent iCloud accounts too, and we've used the same email address for this as the Apple ID.
Now I recently bought her the iPhone 5, and before I set this one up I backed up her old 4S via iTunes. Probably not the wisest move, given the history of syncing issues.
Anyway, everything seemed to be fine, until I noticed she had multiple updates to download for her apps. When she tried to update them, the iPhone 5 asked for her Apple ID, but displayed my Apple ID email address.
On further investigation, I discovered that her iCloud ID was actually my iCloud email address as well.
So, now I'm just confused, and I can't change either her iTunes ID or her iCloud ID on her phone. To make matters more confusing, when she's logged into iTunes, her Apple ID is correct, with the right email address for her.
Lastly, her iCloud email address, as listed on her phone, is a different email address of hers, and it can't be changed as it's greyed out.
I'm seriously frustrated by all of this, and I could really use some useful advice!
    cheers

Starting with the fact that your apps have nothing to do with the cloud, we can proceed.
    1. you can share your apple id for apps (that is itunes and apps store in settings) or you can use different.
If you are using different, she will not be able to update your apps, until she enters your password, cause they are yours and yours only. She can delete those apps from the phone and download new same once to her account, she will have to pay again if those are paid. To download fresh once to her account she will have to go to Settings> itunes and app store. and sign out of your apple id and sign in with hers.
    2. She can not sign out of icloud on her phone, so you want to delete your icloud account from her phone only. Going to settings and icloud and press delete account. It will ask you if you want to keep the data or delete it and choice is yours. If you see your contacts on the phone, you delete, and then she can add new. If those contacts/calendars are hers, you keep.
Last note - logging in to itunes does not show or say anything about the phone, but as far as that if you guys really want to stay separate, you probably better off by creating new user account for her on your computer.

  • Appletv remote app and airplay not working with iphone 4S

I have the latest appleTV.  I have the remote app loaded onto my ipad3 and iphone 4S.  The app is not working with iphone 4S, nor do I get the airplay icon, hence I can't mirrior my phone on appleTV.  It used to work.  I have deleted and reloaded the app, and still nothing.  It worked fined until a month ago or so.  I have enabled home sharing.
The app and airlplay are working just fine with the ipad3.  I have the ipad and appleTV hooked up to my router using 5Ghz, and the iphone only connects to the 2Ghz network on the same router.  I don't think this is the issue, because it worked before.
Also, when I click on the remote app on the iphone, to add an itunes library, a code pops up on the phone, which I enter into itunes on my Win7 PC.  Nothing seems happed on the computer when I enter the code.  Could this have anything to do with recent appleTV or itunes updates?  Any possible solutions?

It seems like I am having the same problem.
I have the latest AppleTV 1080, imac 27", ipad, ipad2, 2 iphone 4, all with the latest iOS. After I have the AppleTV connected, a few problems showed up:
    (1) ipad plus iphones cannot airplay photo to AppleTV. After the play button and the grey screen displayed "the playing msg on AppleTV", nothing happened. it is the same for ipad/iphone.
    (2) iMac not Airplay to AppleTV
    (3) Airplay Mirroring not working
    The following are done:
    - Home sharing enabled
    - To test the devices are connected. I set a passowrd for Airplay and the ipad/iphone both requested for it so they are network and devices are ok

I try to find some solution to get 3GS to be working with my remote app with iTunes. I was following the instructions from the following website: http://lifehacker.com/398278/remote-app-controls-itunes-playback-from-your-iphon e
It looks like the "Look for iPhone & iPod touch " from the advanced tab is missing.

  • Why is Remote app album view different than iTunes?

I use the Remote app on my iPad to control the streaming of my PC's iTunes music library to my stereo.  I like the Album view because I can see most of the album covers. In iTunes 11.1 on my PC, album view displays the albums alphabetically by artist.  i.e. all Beatles albums are listed before any Rolling Stones albums.  But when viewing the same library on my iPad using the Remote app, the albums are listed alphabetically by album title, not by artist.  So each artist's albums are scattered all over.  I don't know about you, but when I'm looking for an album to play, I think about artists, not titles of albums.  But there doesn't seem to be any way to change the way the Remote app orders albums.  Am I missing something?  Is there any way to configure the Remote app to display albums in artist order?

Hi go the first page of the Remote, the one which shows your shared libraries.
Click Settings, and then Sort by Artist tab,
    Hope that helps!

  • Can you install an app in two different ipads with the same apple id ?

i have an apple id and my friend couldnt upload google earth so I shared him my apple id and password but it appeArs as if it was already downloaded but I dont have it downloaded and neither dies he

Do a search on the iPad that you downloaded it onto.
Swipe to the right from the home screen and Type "Google Earth" (no quotation marks) in the search field at the top. See if it appears.
Restart the iPad and see if the app appears.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Update 5.2 cannot access movies with remote app..

I have updated to 5.2 and when accessing my music or videos from itunes through ATV using the silver remote everthing works fine. When I use the Iphone or Ipad remote app I can access music with no issues but when I try to access a video or movie from my itunes it kicks me out! When I press a movie the app slides back to the list and nothing plays and then ATV goes back to the main screen! I've tried resetting, reinstalling, restarting, signing in and out and nothing seems to work, and its only when I try to play videos thru the app remote. My connection is fine and home sharing never drops and I can view all content otherwise just not videos from itunes with the remote app. Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone resolved it?

I am having a similar issue with 5.2 on a version 2 apple tv.  Only difference is that I can't access tv or movies at all.  It gives me the spinning wheel than then drops me on the home screen.  First noticed on the remote app, but can't even access with silver remote.
    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings). You should also try restarting your router.
If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore).

  • IPhone remote app disconnects, iPad does not

    Environment Info
    Windows 7 64-bit
    iTunes 12.1.2.27
Latest update on iPhone and iPad
    Remote app
Single network, single wireless access point
I have home sharing turned on in iTunes, I play my music throughout my entire house from my PC and control via the remote app. I migrated my iTunes library to another PC and I am now having remote issues. Now the remote app frequently disconnects after my phone locks and the only way I can get it to reconnect is by turning off home sharing and back on again. I've made sure to turn off sharing on the other PC, and uninstalled iTunes.
After some testing it seems that the disconnect does not happen on my iPad, only my iPhone. I've gone through the home sharing troubleshooting page, obviously my home sharing is working, just not all the time. I have to turn it off and on again to kick in the head. I've also disabled IPv6 as well.

Hmmm interesting, I'll have to see if I can change that option. This isn't my setup, its a friends.
I may have been running into a different issue. I got down and dirty and pulled out Wireshark to see what was happening and found some interesting things. My friend has two wireless access points and I was wondering if we were running into an issue with WiFi going into sleep mode on the phone and the remote app timeout while waiting for the wireless connection.
I disabled the second AP and things seemed to work better, but the remote would still fail to connect once in a while. Thats when I saw that the remote app makes a DNS SRV request looking for a PC on the network that has iTunes, so I looked at the DNS settings on the iPhone and noticed that DNS was pointing to two ISP DNS servers first, then the internal router DNS. I swapped the internal DNS first, and ISP DNS second, renewed the DHCP lease on the phone and things are working great now.
Either way it seems like the remote app is a bit tempermental with its timeout, it seems like it either gets stuck looking while it waits for WiFi or a DNS response. But at least its working much better now, sorry for the long post.

  • IPhone 4 Remote App Not working

    Hello,
Sorry for posting another 'not working' thread, but having searched the forum I cannot find my answer.
I am not very technical, but I have iTunes and an iPhone 4.
I have the remote app and the app has worked perfectly up until recently.
I have upgraded iTunes to 10 and also my antivirus.
Now I know alot of these things could be caused by the firewall, but I have allowed iTunes to be let through the firewall and I have switched off the firewall in the past to ensure it was not this.
When I switch on the computer and open iTunes then go to the remote app it works. It is when the iPhone 'sleeps' that the library wont re connect, OR if i have been using iTunes and then try and start the remote that it will not work.
Any ideas at all as it is so frustrating. I am not technically minded, so switching router channels etc and proxy settings/DHCP etc dont really make sense to me.
I have tried rebooting everything including the router, but believe it is something simple as it was working prior to iTunes 10.
I am running a PC on Vista
    Thanks
    Steve

no I use both ipad2 iphone4 with remote app and have no issues with ios
try removing the setup and start over

  • Remote app shows "album artist" after recent update

In January I updated iTunes 9...  to  iTunes 10.5.2. The new database shows "artist" same as before.
Then I had to update the remote app on my iPod touch. Now comes the trouble:
instead of showing "artist" as before in older version of remote app, it shows "album artist"
which effectively destroys the organisation principle of all my music file collection (roughly 600 CD).
I am afraid that changing artist and album artist by rewriting all ID tags will not be helpful,
because then the corresponding iTunes database on my mac will show these fields in wrong order.
Do we have any hope for getting fixed this bug in remote app ?
How to deal with this mess of a situation ?

remote app 2.2 was showing 'artist information' in the 'artist field'.
with the release 2.3 the problem with the 'artist field', showing 'album artist information' started, and with the latest version 2.4 this error still exists!
it would be really nice if someone can tell us if this is an error (as i suppose) and will be fixed, or if this is right and why this was done.
maybe some apple people can answer....
    thanks.

  • Remote app

My Apple TV updated a couple nights ago.  Been trying to get the Remote App to work with it.   The app opens up, gives me the proper info to input on the Apple TV and then I get a music symbol on my Remote App where I paired it with Apple TV.    The Apple TV shows its paired with the Remote App.   But I can't seem to do anything with the Remote App.   It just shows the symbol and can't do anything with it but stare at it.    Can't figure out what the problem is.  I'm using the iPhone 6 to access it.   Whats the issue?

    Hello Unfriend,
If you are using a remote app with just two users you can with the Basic Tier.
Yes, for each App Collection there is minimum requirement of 20 users. If you have less than 20 users, you would still be billed for 20.
So if you are going with Basic Tier, if your bill is $200 then yes it will be $ 10 per users with minimum number of users which is 20.
Also note that Hours included in starting price (month) if $10 is 40, if you exceed this Hourly overage rate (Hour) is $0.175/hr.

  • Two libraries on one mac (mini) visible using remote app, how?

    Hi all,
I would like to have multiple libraries on one mac so i can access them via my remote app on my ipad
    Reason;
I have 700+ albums in different musical areas. I can only see the album art when i am in the library of the remote app. The different playlists dont show artwork but just the songs.
If i can make different libraries i have a better overview of all the art work
Does anyone know how to make both libraries on the same mac, visible on my remote app?
    thanks in advance
    Frits

I don't think the issue is one of Apache (not even sure it's one of named virtual hosts since you want both sites to serve the same content). The issue is one of having multiple .local names point to the same machine.
I don't know this can be done without your own DNS server running in the network.

  • After I upgraded my iPhone to 7.1, my REMOTE app no longer works. Any ideas?

After I upgraded my iPhone 5 to 7.1, my REMOTE app no longer seems to be connected to my Apple TV. Has anyone had and solved this problem?

I rechecked each question you posed; I even turned off and turned back on the Apple TV and iTunes Home Sharing, deleted the app and redownloaded it several times. I am still getting the message on my phone to turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on my computer or on Apple TV. I can't think of any changes I made since the REMOTE app worked except I downloaded the iOS 7.1. About a week before uploading the new iOS, I moved my router. Could this have been a cause of my problem? Everything else seems to work. Do you have any other suggestions? Or do you think the REMOTE app isn't working correctly with the new iOS 71.? Thank you for responding. This is above this Nana's head.
