Remote app on computer-to-computer network

Hello there.
I have some problems with the Remote app. It works fine when I'm at home (both MacBook and iPod connected to same wireless network via router). But, when I'm not at home and want to use the Remote app, I create a computer-to-computer wireless network using MacBook and then the Remote app doesn't connect to iTunes. I've tried forgetting all remotes from iTunes, reinstalling Remote app, but none of that helps. I can't add my iTunes library. iPod is recognised, and when I enter the 4-digit code nothing happens (except the alert on iPod that says that Remote can't connect to iTunes). I can't even control iTunes DJ.
Anybody having similar issues?

It seems that it doesn't work because of a proxy server.

  • How do I use the remote app on a dual band network?

There are 2 routers in my home. One is dual band (SSID: NETGEAR49-5G). This one is being used as a 5GHz access point while the other (SSID: NETGEAR49) is being used as a 2.4GHz extender. However I can't use the Remote app to control my iTunes library, regardless of which router I connect to. I can't even use a passcode to add my library because I just keep getting an error saying I entered the wrong code. Strangely everything's fine if I turn off the 2.4GHz router, but I don't want to have to keep doing that. Is there any way I can configure the two routers so I can use the Remote app and other network-based services??

    Hi,
I can tell you how it works on my iPhone.
I click the Messages icon to open it.
I click the box with pencil icon top right for New Message
I start to type the name of the person I want to contact in the "To" spot.
(Alternatively use the Blue + icon and select direct from Contacts list)
I select the full name of Contact from any list if there are multiples.
Once the person and their Contact option is selected I click on the text field at the bottom of screen
Using the "keyboard" I type the Message and then  the Send button.

  • How can I make the 'remote' app work across a routed network?

So, I have trusted and guest networks, with iTunes running on a Mac on the trusted network. I'd like iOS devices on the guest network to be able to use the 'remote' app, specifically the DJ function.
I think there will be two components:
-- service discovery. Apple likes mDNS (Bonjour), so possibly can be done like this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2751128?start=0&tstart=0 but one would need to figure out what service discovery records remote is looking for.
-- traffic. Appropriate traffic would need to be allowed between the two networks.
Has anyone looked at the wire traffic for remote, or gotten this to work?
    Thanks,
    Heath

Welcome to the Apple Community Dylan.
There is no way to set up home sharing on the Apple TV without the original remote from Apple, you will need to purchase a new remote from the Apple Store.
If you already have homesharing set up on the Apple TV, you merely need to set it up in the remote app settings.

  • Shall i use mobile network 3G instead of Wi-Fi for iPhone Remote app?

    Hi,
I installed Remote application on my iPhone 4 (iOS 6). It's throws "you must to connect a WiFi network to control iTune or Apple TV". Can i use remote app use by mobile 3G network instead of WiFi network? Please suggest me.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Suresh Balakrishnan .

No, you can't. The phone has to be on the same network as your Mac and Apple TV. Neither of those devices can connect via cellular.

  • Connection problems with Remote app

hi, I'm trying to get Remote to work for my ipod touch. I'm running windows vista ultimate with the newest itunes, and I have iTunes set to look for ipod remotes automatically. I've also pinged my iPod successfully and made sure that it was on the same network as my computer. But no matter what I do, I can't get it to show up on iTunes. I tried turning my firewall off as well as some router configurations. Does anyone know how I can get this to work?

I struggled with this issue for months.  Both the remote app and iTunes had updated and at some point afterward I realized I could no longer connect to my iTunes Library using Homesharing.  After much searching and troubleshooting iTunes and the Remote app, I looked into potential network issues.  I have Verizon Fios, with which is supplied a Actiontec router.  For me, the issue was solved when I disabled IGMP Proxy within the Advanced settings for the router.  This change to the router setting yielded instant results.

  • Setup ATV, lost remote, can it be done with Remote.App?

I recently moved and lost the ATV remote and cannot setup the Apple TV w/o it. Is there anyway to access the setup on the ATV to pair with the Remote.App of the iPhone? Due to a recent phone replacement, I no longer have an iPhone setup to access the Apple TV. Thanks in advance.
    Mark

An Apple remote is an IR remote whereas the Remote app works through the local network. You can only access ATV content with the Remote app, you can't access the entire menu with it. Your best bet would be to just buy another Apple remote and pair it with your ATV.

  • How do I connect the remote app on my iDevice to my computer?

I've seen this question asked plenty of times and have followed all of the suggested fixes and still cannot figure this out.
I am running Windows 8, with iTunes version 11.0.5
My iDevice is an iPhone 4 running iOS 6.1.3
My Remote app is version 3.0.1
On the Remote app, all I see (other than the settings icon) is
"Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or Apple TV using the account (my account name)
I have turned on Home Sharing for both iTunes, as well as my iPhone.
I have went to "Settings>Music>Turn on Home Sharing" This is on.
I have opened iTunes and went to "File>Home Sharing>Turn Home Sharing on."
I have opened the remote app. "Settings" Home Sharing is on.
Each of these are using the same Apple ID.
I have tried deleting the app and redownloading it.
I have tried restarting my computer.
I have tried exiting/signing out of iTunes.
I have tried turning my phone off, and back on again.
I have checked my firewall settings, and iTunes is allowed.
Both my PC, and my iPhone are connected to the same network. The iPhone wirelessly, and my desktop is hardwired.
I have seen many other people say "Where is the remote button?" With the reply "There is no remote button."
I have not found this button either. When I go onto the Remote app on my iPhone and go to settings, there is an option to "Add an iTunes Library."
When I press this, I get a four digit code and the message, "To add an iTunes library, open iTunes on your computer and select "Don's iPhone" from the Devices list."
When going to iTunes "File>Devices" I get the following.
Sync. Transfer Purchases. Back Up. Restore From Backup.
I have read in other related posts that your iDevice is supposed to show up on the top right of the screen, next to the iTunes Store button.
This does not happen for me, unless I plug in my iDevice via USB.
I have also read that the "Remote" button is supposed to be located here, but I cannot find one.
In the iTunes "Help>iTunes Help>Search Remote>Use the Remote app to control your iTunes library>Pair Remote with an iTunes library" It states:
Tap Remote on your device’s Home screen.
Tap Add an iTunes Library.A 4-digit code appears.
Open iTunes on your computer and click the Remote button .
Type the 4-digit code in the iTunes window.iTunes pairs the library on your computer with the Remote app on your device."
Of course, I cannot find this Remote button as mentioned before. I have run out of option on what I know to do, and what suggestions I have found to try.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Thank you for the reply.
ctrl B makes the top bar (File. Edit. View. Controls. Store. Help.) appear and disappear.
ctrl S makes a side bar appear on the left side of iTunes. It shows the library which has Music. Movies. TV Shows. Apps. Playlists. Ect.
When I did the steps you suggested, my iPhone did not show up in that list.
I checked my firewall settings again, and they seem to be okay. My firewall is the only thing that I am not 100% sure of. If I go to Control Pannel>System and Security>Windows Firewall>Allow an app through Windows Firewall. It shows that iTunes is allowed. I'm not sure if something else might need to be allowed as well though. I have a few Remote options that are not allowed such as, Remote Event Log Management, Remote Scheduled Tasks Management, Remote Shutdown, Remote Volume Management, and Routing and Remote Access. I'm not sure if any of these need to be allowed or not, or if they are even affiliated with iTunes.

  • Can I access two different libraries on the same computer with the remote app?

I am in the process of upgrading our home network. There is going to be an airport express in each of the main rooms of our house all running to a switch connected to our AirPort Extreme. The reason for this is so we can stream our music in any or all of the rooms we choose.  I'm going to have a Windows 7 PC running iTunes constantly also connected so that we will have access to the entire library on any of our devices.  My entire library will be housed on an external hard drive that will be connected to the Extreme. Here is where it gets tricky. My wife has a separate library that we want to have access to as well. It is going to be housed on a separate external hard drive connected to the Extreme via a USB hub. I don't want to combine our libraries because hers is absolute chaos and mine is very well organized. Without having to have a second  computer running iTunes constantly, is there a way we can access both libraries simultaneously with the remote app? Either by running two instances of iTunes on one computer or some other way I'm not realizing. As it works right now, if we're both running iTunes on our laptops, then I can go onto my iPad and see both full libraries on the remote app. I want to do that, but with just one computer.

I doubt it is possible to run two instances of iTunes on the computer at the same time.  To do so would require two users to be signed in and running iTunes under each user.
The better solution would be to either clean up and merge the two libraries or have iTunes running on a second computer.

I think this is probably a sign that your network could be better than it is.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • Chromium for osx Marveicks  and chrome remote desktop cloud computing App!

    Hello!!!
    Good Day to Everyone.
I'm clkwong@ and cho leung Kwong@ in Hong Kong.
I have an imac and a macbook air , both of them is installed mac osx Marveicks.
I download chroimium for mac Marveicks on both machines and install chrome remote desktop on both machines.
When I have openned the chrome remote desktop and it was been logged in gmail account,  after accept the authority , then I choosed  the option in chrome remote desktop --> my computer.
It needs to input pin (any 6 numbers) and input again , then ok.
After that the cloud needed  to confirm the pin!
And then I  used the macbook air and opened chrome remote desktop and choose the logged in gmail account computer and
    comfirmed the pin.
Amazing, something happened, I could use the macbook air to operate the imac.
For the above my experience of chrome remote desktop of chromium for mac osx Marveicksv use, I have an idea for remote access as follows :-
    1. I can use iphone 5 series with 4G lte/advanced and apple remote desktop App for ios 7 to connect to home's apple computer through icloud.
2 . I can use iphone 5 series 4G lte and icolud with home's apple computer Internet share as wifi router to operate home's appliances which have wifi devices with App.
    3. I can use iphone 5 series 4G lte and icloud  to operate with home's apple computer for 4K video downloaded from website and stored in home's apple computer with usb 3.0 external Hard Disk.

    Hi Shay,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please check that required ports is opened for remote desktop (port 3389)?
Are you performing remote desktop with IP address or Hostname?
Did you find any specific error for your case?
Also there is required network connection available. If you can successfully connect with IP address then there might be issue with Hostname resolution for your server. From your description it also seems that there are some credential issue occurs for you.
Please try with domain\username and verify.
You can also try URI scheme for connecting, for more detail refer this article.

  • ITunes stops playing and cannot connect to Remote app whenever the computer display turns off??

I have a Windows system with iTunes, and an iPhone with the Remote app installed, through which I use to play music on iTunes. Until recently iTunes would play regardless of whether my monitor was on or not, and I could connect to iTunes with the Remote app regardless of the monitor state. Now, however, after updating both iTunes and Remote with the new versions that came out around the time of the iPhone 4S release, whenever my computer turns off my monitor, iTunes stops playing at the end of the current song and the Remote app cannot find iTunes. This is not a system sleep state, I just have the power options set to turn off the monitor after 15 minutes of inactivity. Sleep and hibernate are disabled on the system and always have been, expressly for the purpose of allowing iTunes playback via Remote. If I jiggle the mouse and the system turns the monitor back on then I can manually reenable playback, and Remote can connect to iTunes again. I can't find any setting in Preferences that would control this. How do I fix this? Thanks.

I'm so glad someone else is having this problem.  I am in exactly the same situation!
    1. Windows Vista
    2. Upgraded iTunes to 10.5 and upgraded remote with iOS 5
    3. My computer has never been set to sleep, but the monitor turns off after 20 mins.
    4. If the monitor goes to sleep, itunes stops streaming music and Remote can't connect to it
    5. If I change my monitor off time to 1 hour, then in 1 hour itunes will stop streaming - it is ABSOLUTELY connected to the monitor sleeping.  Almost like iTunes can't connect to the network the the monitor is off.
Please help!  I have been using remote for a year and this didn't happen until I upgraded to iTunes 10.5.

  • TS1741 Does anyone have trouble with the Remote app losing contact with the iTunes library after it has been connected and working fine for a while. If I go to the computer and turn off sharing, then turn it back on, it will relocate the library again.

My iTunes remote app on my ipad mini will work fine for a while and then it will lose the library. I then have to turn off sharing on the computer and then turn it back on. This will work for a while and then I will have to repeat the process. Help!

I have just found the problem to be windows firewall on my library PC
I can only presume there has been an update to windows firewall or iTunes
all the relevant programs were on the allowed list
I'm now currently running with firewall turned off on my library PC.
I'll update when i have found the rogue setting.

  • TS1741 I have home sharing on both my computer and my iPad remote app. But the remote app no longer works.

My remote app. Use to work perfect. It quit working and now I get a blue screen telling me o turn on home sharing. I've done that on both my mc and iPad with no luck getting the remote and iTunes to pair. Any suggestions?

in remote app click on the
lower left corner on the text
top of the context menu click devices
choose the appletv rather then your shared lib in the list
if you are trying to view a movie that is located on your ipad on your tv using the appletv then
you should use airplay mirror not the remote app

  • ITunes Remote app on Ad Hoc network (Windows 7)

Is it possible to use the iTunes Remote to control a computer that is using a wireless card to create an "Ad Hoc" network.  I plan on building a computer for storing my Apple Lossless files on a Windows 7 machine and using it strictly for playback as a standalone device.  I will be pairing it with a USB DAC & Headphone amp combination.
I either need to buy a monitor (not wanting to do this) or find a way to be able to navigate my iTunes library from this machine without a screen (prefered).  I will NOT have an internet connection at work where I will be using this, however I could purchase a wireless card to install in this itx machine to create an ad hoc network provided I could then use the iTunes Remote app to control playback and view albumn art, etc.
Is this setup possible, or am I chasing a dream?

I have the same problem. How did you fix this?

  • Domain users cannot connect to the network folders when logged in via rds remote apps

    Hi,
recently I setup an RDS farm for remote apps on server 2012 r2.
all users can connect to the apps published. no problems there.
but when users connect via rds they cannot connect to the networkfolders and cannot store the resultance of there work (docx and xlsx files)
all users are normally connected to the networkfolders using a small login batch file handing down the unc path needed. when I log in as domain admin, also using a login batch, connections are setup correctly. It seems to me to be an security issue on the
    rds session host.
    how to alter this?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
We use WMI to communicate with the RDSH server. Various issues can cause WMI to deny access or return error codes. Here's a few things you can try:
    1.  Check if the "TS Web Access Computers" security group on the RDSH server has incorrect permissions in DCOM and/or WMI:
       For checking DCOM security settings:
       1. Start the Component Services MMC snapin
       2. Navigate to Component Services -> Computers -> My Computer
       3. Right-click on My Computer and select properties
       4. Go to the COM Security tab
       5. Under Access Permissions, click the Edit Limits button
       6. Ensure that TS Web Access Computers is in the list, with all of the permissions set to “allow”.
       7. Under Launch and Activation Permissions, click the Edit Limits button
       8. Ensure that TS Web Access Computers is in the list, with all of the permissions set to “allow”.
       For checking WMI security settings:
       1. Start the WMI Control MMC snapin
       2. Right-click the WMI Control node and select properties
       3. Go to the Security tab
       4. Navigate to Root->CIMV2->TerminalServices
       5. With TerminalServices selected, click the Security button
       6. Ensure that TS Web Access Computers is in the list with Execute Methods, Enable Account, and Remote Enable set to "allow"
    2.  Verify the RD Session Host server's firewall allows WMI calls.
    3. Verify that the RD Connection Broker hasn't lost its trust relationship with the domain.
    4. See if non-RDS related WMI calls can be successfully made to the RDSH server. This can help differentiate between a general WMI issue and an issue calling the RDS WMI provider.
