Remote app on iPod touch and iPhone will not pair with Apple TV

I have an iphone 3G and ipod touch with the remote app installed. I am unable to pair either with my ATV. When I go to remotes on my ATV and remote app on either ipod or iphone there does not appear to be an option to control apple tv.

I have done the latest upgrade on software for itunes, upgraded the software on both my ipod touch and ipad and now itunes will not sync. You can't, you will need to get a new remote.

All the updates starting with OS 4.x have completely screwed up most iPod Touch', especially older models like Gen 2 and 3.
Inability to connect to any WiFi.
Fluctuating WiFi signal no matter how close you are to the AP.
Drastically shortened battery life, even when in sleep mode.
And Apple hasn't done a **** thing since irritated owners have complained about it since the middle of 2011!!
(I am one of many thousands affected!) Look at older threads by searches of "Fluctuating WiFi", Terrible Battery Life, for the Touch and iPhone.
This is why I bought an Android tablet instead of an iFad this Xmas. Non-existant Apple support!

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes. If iTunes asks for the passcode and you can't enter the passcode or yu do not have the syncing computer, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode see:

I have a brand new ipod touch and I cannot get it to synch with my itunes. I have two other Ipod Nano's that will synch up just fine. The computer has windows XP with the latest service pack on it. I just updated my ipod touch... i think its 3g... to the newest thing, and now i reset my ipod and it just goes to a bluish green screen and won't turn off, or do anything but reset. when i reset it it goes to the apple logo and then right back to the blue screen. You can not update an iPod Touch 3rd Generation to iOS 6.
Only iPod Touch 4th generation can update to iOS 6.
iPod Touch 5th Generation will come with iOS 6 already installed.
