Remote app unable to access library - keeps dropping Home Sharing

I'm running Windows 7, using up to date itunes with Airport Express 802.11n (1st generation) with Remote app on iPhone 6s and ipad mini 2. Remote app on both devices either keeps dropping Home Sharing (which means I have to toggle Home sharing off/on with iTunes) and when remote actually finds my itunes library it can't open it. Have tried all basic workarounds - deleted/reinstalled app, re-booted phone, re-booted computer, re-booted router. No luck! Any ideas? Thanks!

I originally did update the Remote app, but that didn't help, so I uninstalled it from the iPad, power cycled it, and then downloaded and installed it from the App store again. It is currently version 2.2 and is not available for update in the App store.

  • Hybrid Remote App Unable to Access this resource

I am having a difficult time getting my Hybrid remote app to authenticate properly. Configuration is as follows:
Hybrid Remote App collection with S2S VPN between remote app VNet and Azure VNet following the guide:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2014/07/21/how-to-link-azure-remoteapp-to-an-existing-vnet.aspx
Client Server model Application with the Client installed on custom remote app image and server side on azure Vnet along with a cloud DC
DC Syncing with Azure AD using AAD Sync Services and utilizing the mail attribute for AAD Login ID
Remote App deploys successfully and joins to the domain (I can see the computer objects in the specified OU). I am able to publish my apps an assign user access. I am also able login through the azure remote app application and see my published apps.
However once I try to launch the remote app it prompts me once again to login, which I do, then it hangs for a while before erroring out with the following message
"An error occurred while remote desktop connection was accessing this resource. Retry the connection or contact your system administrator."
Since this is a hybrid deployment I am able to login to the session host OS.  Whenever I do I am logged in with a temporary profile (I am not sure if this is normal or not).  I see very little in the event logs on the session host, nor the DC.
I have verified connectivity between the remote app and the DC through ping both ways. The S2S VPN is up and functioning properly.  The session host and the DC have access to other domain resources and the web.  I have also seen documentation
on a "'Known Issue" with this error related to large profile disks but this does not apply as I have never been able to successfully launch the app.  Any assistance with be greatly appreciated I am at my wits end. Please let me know
if I can add any additional information that would help solve the issue.

    Hi,
Do you have the User Principal Name (UPN) suffix that you are using configured in your Active Directory?  For example, say you use
[email protected] for the initial sign on to Azure RemoteApp, and when you launch an application you also enter
[email protected] in the second authentication prompt.  Is
[email protected] a valid UPN in your cloud Active Directory--the AD that is hosted on your DCs?

  • Apple TV dropping home sharing connection

Previous setuo with my Mac mini and Apple TV 3rd gen was fine, wired network connection.
New setup with MB Pro is wireless connection, ATV keeps dropping Home Sharing. Both on same network.
iTunes is up to date and so is ATV. I have to log out of iTunes Home Sharing, log in and then sometimes
have to restart ATV. Not sure what is going on. I have MBP set not to go to sleep and to wake on wifi.
    Very frustrating.

Call the apple store you got it from and ask them. Sometimes in the past they've extended the 'no questions asked return' but only Apple can tell you for sure.

  • Remote App unable to locate my library

This morning I have found that the Remote App on my iPhone is no longer able to locate my iTunes library. I have restarted the phone, my MacBook Pro & both my Airport and Airport Express base stations (restarted each separately although they are 1 network). I have also added the library to the Remote App 4 or 5 times "successfully." I am not sure what has gone wrong. I know that they are on the same network and iTunes has no problem detecting the Remote when I pair the two.

For me the solution ended up being that I had turned the firewall back on (it was off so I could network my pc and move files and I never turned it back on). I had to switch to allow specific programs and added itunes. Now it works again

  • The remote app to control music library won't go portrait

When i control my music library on my Mac with the remote app on my iPad. It appears on the iPad only in portrait and won't turn to landscape when you turn the iPad since iOS7. Any thought?

Same problem, many threads on this now, looks like a bug for Remote in IOS7, hope they fix soon, no good to me in portrait mode.

  • Remote app unable to connect to iTunes

Hi, I have my iPhone's Remote app 'paired' to my iMac's iTunes but recently, when I try connecting the remote to iTunes it just doesn't connect.  There's the message that reads "Connecting to George's iTunes..." and the spinning gear but nothing.
Has this happened to anyone? Did you guys find a solution?
I control my home music this way and when this happens the only way to fix it is to quit iTunes and relaunch it but, obviously, isn't something I want to do (as I don't want to stop the music being played).
Thanks in advance for your help and best regards.
    Jorge...

I have exactly the same problem with my Mac Mini running iTunes. Problem only occurs after Mac Mini has been on but inactive for a day or reasonable period of time. To connect using the iPhone Remote App I have to quit iTunes first then it works perfectly.
The only other applications running on the Mac Mini are EyeTv and Drop Copy. If you don't have these then they're not the problem. In Energy Saving preferences sleep is set to never so teh Mac Mini is always on.

  • Remote App and iTunes Movies Library

I am using the remote app on my iPhone and iPad to control iTunes.
Everything works fine, but what I do not understand is, why does the remote app not list all movies in my iTunes? It only lists H.264 files, but not MPEG-4 files. All of them are listed in iTunes and it plays both filetypes without any issue.
    Why is this?

Having exactly the same issue with my .mpg files. This was the main reason I installed Remote.

  • My desktop has 2 users. Apple TV can only access the library on one of them. The other is says it is unable to contact. Network and home sharing settings are identical. Thoughts?

Any ideas why I can only access the itunes library and photos of one of the two user accounts on my iMAC? Settings for each of the accounts is the same, as far as I can tell.
    Appreciate any help.

If you are attempting to share to both at the same time, you can't.
Are you selecting the second AppleTV in home sharing options on the MBP. Are all devices signed in for Home Sharing with the same AppleID?

  • Remote App cannot find my library / Restore iPod way too much

I used this app before on Windows so I know how to activate it. But for some reason when I plug it in, my computer recognizes my iPod.. however, I never get the PIN screen. I also have the most recent iPod touch firmware. I just see the Information screen. I also enabled Home Sharing, and DJ playlists yet my library still doesn't show up.
I tried restoring my iPod completely and I still have this problem.
Also, an unrelated question.... sometimes all my apps just stop working. When I try and open my apps they close right away. But my music is fine. I always end up having to restore my iPod. Why is this? And no this iPod is not jailbroken.

  • Why will my apple tv only access purchases made in itunes library? My Home Sharing is activated on both my TV and computer, but I continue to get message to activate Home Sharing. I am unable to transfer my movies downloaded in Itunes.

Why will my Apple TV only accept purchases made in Itunes? I am unable to transfer movies and music that I have  downloaded in Itunes through my Apple TV to my TV. All movies are in an MP3 Ipad format.I have followed every troubleshooting suggestion with no luck. If my Apple TV will transfer purchased music, I must assume the Home Sharing is activate on both my computer and TV.

Thank you. I meant streaming, not transfer. I have streamed movies through my Apple TV before and watched them on my TV. Now, the only content that will stream is what I purchased in the Itunes store. My Home Sharing is obviously activated or the streaming of purchased items would not work. Both my Itunes and Apple TV are fully updated. Where am I going wrong?

  • Shared Library keeps dropping out - maybe since iTunes 10.2 but not sure...

Have had a solid as a rock original fully updated Apple TV for years - Mac mini in the garage with Drobo full of my movies and music. Everything streaming fine. Now I wasn't really taking notice when exactly it happened but 'think' iTunes 10.2 onwards may be the culprit - the 'Shared Movies' and 'Shared Music' entries disappear from the menus. A reboot of the Apple TV bring them back for a bit but a daily reboot is pretty much always necessary.
A 2nd gen Apple TV upstairs never has any issues, but I feel that home sharing is probably more resiliant than the older Shared Library technique.
Thought it might be the fact that I was still running a PowerPC Mac mini and that a newer iTunes might just get on with such a machine quite as well nowadays, so bought a new Core2 Duo mac mini to do the streaming but the situation continues.
Just wondering if anyone else is seeing the same thing or has any ideas on a fix. No other network bits have changed in the 2 year period so all a bit odd.

This is driving me crazy as well. Except I have the opposite situation. I also don't know which iTunes version update it was, but for the past two months I've been struggling to get my shared libraries to stream to either my Gen1 or Gen2 AppleTV. Right now, only the Gen1 is working. I cannot get the Gen2 to stream my iMAC library.
All the features of the ATV Gen2 other than streaming from my iMAC work fine.
I set the speaker setting to multiple speakers, I've reset and rentered home sharing data, I run an Airport extreme (WP2), iMac for library with the latest iTunes software, updated all AppleTV settings. It's frustrating because it worked fine for about a year...recent software updates seemed to have botched the working configuration.
I also have seen the anomaly that the title "Sharing Devices" disappears right after I hit "done" on the home share set up in the left hand side iTunes title bar on my iMAC.
If I open iTunes preferences and open the AppleTV tab, I see the AppleTV Gen1, but not the Gen2.
When I set the speaker to multiple devices iTunes pop up window appears to connect to the Gen2 but I don't get a shared library when I go check.
After reading a few related threads there seems to be the common element of some sort of network exclusion problem between cross generational ATV setups.

  • Macbook air keeps dropping home wifi

My macbook air keeps dropping my home wifi service, I get a message telling me there is no internet service.  I still have a PC and it connects to internet service even when my mac cannot so it has nothing to do with the internet provider.  I have to delete, reinstall my internet connection a couple of times to try and get it back up and running.  I would appreciate any help with this problem!

I got my MacBook Air in December and had the same problem.  It was so frustrating I became enraged on more than one occassion--why were my family's PCs, iPads, iPod Touch, Playstation 3, etc. getting reliable (if sometimes slow) WiFi access, and my brand new, expensive Mac was having so many issues, like being unable to connect to the Internet in the first place?  !@%$#&^&%%@!
After combing the Internet and trying dozens of "fixes" that fixed nothing, I called Apple support, which advised me that I didn't need to change my router (which is only about 2 years old) but should change my router's security from WEP to WPA2.  I did, and it worked...sorta.  It was better, but I still had the same problems several times a day (as opposed to several times an hour).
Then, two days ago, I was sitting in the parking lot of the college where my husband and I work, and BAM the Internet was blazing fast on my MacBook Air.  I couldn't believe how fast it was.  That convinced me that the machine was fine and that it was "my Internet at home" (I'm not a tech person) that was the problem.
So I went out and bought an Airport Extreme router (about $180), brought it home, set it up in about 10 minutes (with our 15 wireless devices attached to the network--4 PCs, 1 Mac, 2 iPod Touches, 2 iPads, a 3DS, 2 Kindles, a wireless printer, a PS3, and a Wii).  My MacBook Air has been fan-freaking-tastic ever since (2 days now).  I used to avoid certain Web sites b/c I knew they would simply not load or load like crap, but now I can have them all open at once.
I know it's annoying to have to spend so much money to solve this problem, but I'm so happy we did.  All our other devices are running faster, too.  All I can say is that upgrading the router to the Airport Extreme solved my MacBook Air's hideous Internet issues in my home, at least--who knows what will happen if I have to travel and am stuck in a hotel room trying to do work?  Fortunately, I don't travel that often, so I'll jump off that bridge when I come to it.

  • Can't access itunes store or home sharing on apple tv, apple tv 2 keeps saying that network time needs to be set.

Cant acess itunes store or home sharing on apple tv 2, keeps telling me that network time needs to be set. When I go to time zone section on apple tv - I chose a city...but still no luck. Apparently, can't do anything without the time being set. How do I set this up?

Yes, I did (turning off and then on again is a way of life for any windows user!). Actually, through a process of trial and error I have fixed the problem although I'm not very comfortable with the fix. For some reason, the OS X firewall is to blame. By relaxing the firewall settings to their most lenient, the iTunes store is now fully accessible via iTunes, and so is the whole of the apple website. Another added side effect has been that general web browsing is now lightning fast.
I'm therefore left with the (temporary) conclusion that my iMac's internal firewall is only capable of blocking access to the web resources of the people who created it, and slowing my web browser to a crawl.

  • Why Apple Tv 2 drop Home Sharing connection after few minutes?

I just installed an Apple TV 2. Internet connection applications as Apple Store, Youtbe, etc work very well but it drops Library`s communication just after a few minutes. I`m running files like music that are in the library in a PC with Windows Vista.
I`ve been reading other discussions and have done every thing that was suggested as:
    - setting Static IP address
    - have set Firewall with the ports are supposed to open
    - have set Port Forwarding on the router (a Linksys WRT54GS)
    - have updated Network Card driver
    - have updated router firmware
    - turned off sleepling mode and screen saver
    - restored Apple TV 2
    - reset router
    - installed last Itunes version
All that and possibily other things that I do not remember right now but still looseingconnection to the Library after a few minutes. I have realized first time I put a slide show of pictures with music background and the music always stops after the second music. After that you just see the message that you need to turn on the Library related to my Apple ID.
Today I did a test with a home sharing with another computer I have that runs Windows 7 and guess what: the Home Sharing worked fine!
So, my conclusion is that there is some flaw on Home Sharing when running Itunes in Windows Vista or specificly with this computer running the Windows Vista.
I have done a research and have not found anything else. So, could anyone have a hint of what is going on?
    Thanks,
    Ricardo

Yesterday were released the IOS 5.1 and the Itunes 10.6. I thought that updating the IOS on the Apple TV 2 and the Itunes on PC, my problems would go away. I did that but for my surprise it has NOT.
Then I had a recall that I have read somewhere a while ago about issues with the AVAST Anti-Virus and Home Sharing, that can generate connectivity issues,
In one of my first temptatives to resolve this issue I have stopped the AVAST and I still had the problem, so I left this trail of solution. But since nothing was working I decided to uninstall it. I was a little skeptical about it but gave a shoot.
To my surprise, when I uninstalled it, booted the computer and did the Home Sharing, the problem was FIXED!
That made total sense because the other computer that runs Windows 7 and I have tested before, worked fine, it runs AVIRA as Anit-Virus software.
So my conclusion is that, on my case, the AVAST caused the issue and to stop its service was not enough to diagnose the issue. I had to uninstall it, believe or not. And that the issue has nothing to do with Windows Vista OS but with AVAST.
After that, I uninstall AVIRA as Anti Virus software and, since that, the Library and Home Sharing (24 h ago) is working perfectly and I think that will stay.
