Remote app wont connect to my library

On my ipad, i have installed app called "remote". it is correctly set up, according to Apple support tech, but i can't get it to work. It won't connect to my itunes library on my Sony laptop (win7). Get message that it cannot connect, and to check my network settings. Can't find anything wrong with network. i can connect to internet just fine using the safari browser. I am definitely on the network. Have tried disabling the firewall, no luck. Have reset router, and modem: no luck.

Please ensure that home sharing is enabled on your iTunes PC/Mac and your Apple TV if you have one.  To do this simply click on the "Advanced" menu on the top menu bar in iTunes, then select "Turn on home sharing"

  • Ipad mini remote app will connect to my itunes library and apple tv but won't display content from itunes library on the apple tv section of remote app

What I am trying to do is very simple, and I am sure I have done it before.
I have an Apple TV (2nd Gen) connected to Wifi Network (Airport Extreme 802.11n) I want to stream content from the itunes library on my macbook pro over the wifi network to the Apple TV. This works no problem, home sharing is set up and I can see the itunes library under 'Computer' on the Apple TV interface. I can use the Apple Remote to scroll through and play content from my itunes. Works no problem.
Now I want to use the remote app on my ipad mini to control the apple tv. Using up to date app (Version 3.01) Again, everything looks like it should work. I have turned on Home Sharing on the remote app settings. It works fine and both my itunes library and Apple TV show up on the interface. I can touch the itunes icon and control the itunes on my computer and play music and video on my computer screen.
Now when I touch the apple tv icon I can't see my itunes library content to play on the apple tv. I see the below image. If I tap on the icon in the bottom left it takes me back to the screen in the first image. What is the strangest thing is that I can control the apple tv using the gestures interface! This isn't what I want though and I want to be able to see the itunes library on the screen of the ipad and play it on the apple tv. You can see in the video on this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvEpgcE9KCs). This is what I am trying to do and I just don't understand why I don't get the screen seen at 1:25 in the video. Instead I get the screen seen in the below image. Any ideas? I know that the remote app is connecting to the apple TV because I can control it using gestures, just strange I can't see the content on the ipad like in the attached video clip, instead I see the screen in the image below. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

OK, Problem solved. Software on Apple TV was VERY outdated. It had been sitting in the box for over a year and needed an update. Problem solved!

  • Apple remote app loses connection

I am using the remote app to control my Itune on my computer on Vista. I am able to initiate the connection. But when I close the remote and re-open I still see the library but I am not able to open it.
I able to reconnect if disable and re-enable home sharing.
    *I have no firewall activated
    *WiFi conection working perfectly
*Same problem from my Ipad and my Ipod.
I did all recommend troubleshooting from apple with no success. I read a lot of post on web about that problem but it seems that it should had been fix in the latest version.
    Any idea
    Thanks.

I have the same / similar problem.
Just after starting iTunes (10.1.2) I can see the library in remote (2.1), can connect and control iTunes.
This works fine for a couple of minutes, then the remote app loses connection to iTunes. The library turns from black to grey in settings, can nor be found nor added.
I have tried this on two different Vista PCs and three different routers with all firewalls turn off.
Looks like a straight forward bug to me. Any ideas please?

  • TS1741 I can't get my remote app to connect my iPad to my Apple TV

I can't get my remote app to connect my iPad to the Apple TV

Meanwhile, since Apple does not read these forums, I suggest we all leave comments on their feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
That way they'll at least know a bunch of us are having this issue.
Hopefully Apple will issue a fix soon.

  • Remote app on iphone with Itunes library / Erratic connection problems.

I have been using Remote app on my Iphone to manage Itunes for months with 100% pleasure and 0 trouble.
For a few days, it has some erratic behaviour like having difficulties to connect to my Itunes library.
In such case if I touch the Change Library button on Iphone remote screen, it connects quite instantly...
I have a simple wifi network generated by my adsl box and a single computer.
The remote setting option "stay connected" on Iphone is On.
Generally when I get connected if I quit remote on Iphone and restart it within a minut it will find the library in a jiffy most of times ... but sometimes not.
I disabled firewall : no change.
I scratched all remotes in Itunes and paired the Iphone again : no change.
Does anyone with some idea ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jean.

Almost the same issue here. And this only started yesterday.
Initially iTunes would not pair at all, but I went into add/remove programs (Win 7 PC) and ran a repair on Bonjour, Apple Mobile Devices, and iTunes. I did not remove or reinstall any of these applications.
After this my iPhone remote app would be found by iTunes, the passcode accepted, plus the library showed up. I thought I'd cracked it...
But after a few minutes - usually when the screensaver kicks in on my PC - my iPhone loses connection to my library and WILL NOT reconnect unless I restart iTunes.
I have to say that over the years the remote App is without doubt THE most buggy, inconsistent and erratic piece of software I have ever used. If there was a decent alternative I'd have ditched it a long time ago.
Looking forward to a solution from one of the experts here (not expecting Apple themselves to even respond!).

  • Why does my remote app not find my iTunes Library?

I am trying to use my Remote App on my iPhone 5 to connect to my Windows 7 laptop, the iTunes is upgraded to the latest (iTunes 11). My HomeSharing is on in both spot (iTunes and Remote App). My Apple TV shows up in Remote App but my iTunes Library does not, even if I try manually to add iTunes Library, iTunes does not pick up my phone under "Devices". Please help

  • Remote app won't see my library

Ok, trying to control my computer's music using Remote. Got a 4S in good working order with iOS7, fully updated. Got a mid-2012 Macbook Air holding the library. An Airport Express is providing wireless connectivity.
Here's some screenshots to walk through my problems here:
    This pane looks correct.
Got my Shared Libraries option ticked, looks like I'm ready to go.
This is weird. No "Shared" heading here.
Home sharing is definitely on, and using the same Apple ID as the Remote app on my phone.
    Remote tells me:
Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account … .
I've tried disconnecting and rebooting both devices. I've not yet tried restoring the phone, and I'd like to avoid it if possible.
One more weird thing: Trying the option of adding a computer that is not using Home Sharing, I got the following to happen: First, the Remote app appeared as a device as it should. Finally, something's happening! Then, I put in the confirmation code (so far, so good) and then… nothing. iTunes hangs for a while on the okay button and a gray iTunes logo appears in the Remote app that is impossible to interact with in any way beside deleting.
    Bottom line:
I want to know if there's something wrong with my network settings, or if there's an obscure sharing setting or terminal command that I need to invoke for this **** thing to start working, or if I'm simply out of luck. Any ideas?

Can't help on this as I am having the exact same issue.  Went through updating both iTunes on my MBA and Remote to latest version as of today (June 1st 2014).  Nothing at all happens.  Firewall permissions granted to iTunes.  Little Snitch is not blocking any itunes traffic (in fact I even tried disabling it and no better results).  I do have the PrivateInternetAccess client installed but even disabled and exiting from the app, nothing appears.
I miss the side bar in previous iTunes versions where Home Sharing used to be.

  • TS1741 Iphone remote app not connecting to itunes

Ive checked the firewall, deleted and reinstalled itunes, deleted and reinstalled the remote app on my phone, and ive reset my router. Why isnt it working? the app stays on the screen which says "Turn on Home sharing in itunes..."

I have exactly the same problem, and I've gone through all of the suggested "fixes". No firewall, on the same network, newest version of Remote app (4.2), with the latest versions of ios (7.2), and all the latest version of Apple TV and iTunes. Home Sharing is on (and my iMac and my MBPro both can control the Apple TV. The Remote app, however, STILL gives me the "can't connect" to the library "check your network settings" message, or "can't find the library, turn home sharing on" message. The Apple Tv and the two computer libraries show up on my iPhone in the Remote App, but that's all.
I'm running a 2008-model iMac, a 2009 Macbook Pro, with a 3rd Generation Apple Tv with an iPhone 5s. My wifi router is a Time Capsule model wire-connected to a Time Warner Cable internet modem (I reset both).
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do next?

  • TS1741 the remote app keeps forgetting the itunes library

The remote app works once only when connected. Prior to the most recent Remote update, it would always find my library.  I now have to go to File, Home Sharing, then turn it off an on again.  A bit of a pain.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this apparent fault?

Thanks!! This finally solved my problems (I have a wireless router that came with my Verizon FIOS) as my firewall, antivirus settings, and other settings were not the problem or were in accordance with other threads on this matter.  I am now finally able to concurrently access my 4 Airport Express Devices (setup wirelessly and hooked up to home theater system, portable speakers, & stereo system in different rooms) via Itunes from my two networked (ethernet cable) PCs (One running Vista and the other running Windows 7) and my Daughter's Mac (wireless), plus use my IPOD Touches as remotes for two of the PCs (Of course, they are accessing the same wireless network).
In addition to one of the IPOD touches being used as a remote for a PC playing Itunes, I can concurrently use it to play the Music App (for music actually resident on the IPOD) using Airply and directing to the 4th Airport Express.
Each Itunes program on each computer or IPOD Touch is playing it's own Library and different songs.  Of course, although I'm doing this concurrently, all deivces are directed to a different Airport Express device.  This is all being done using one wireless router with all wired devices on the same segment.  Although I have noticed that I have to start one PC first before the other before this all works (don't know why), the MAC never gives a problem.
Note related to this issue, it would be great if I could run multiple instances of iTunes on the same computer using different Music Libraries and directing it to different Airport Express devices in addition to the above.

  • HT1947 can the remote app access the same iTunes library while paired from 2 different iPhones

my husband and I want to use the remote app on each of our respective iPhones to access the same iTunes library via AppleTV.  is this possible?

how do i do that?  it's already working on mine, and he just loaded the remote app on his iphone and set up home sharing with my apple ID.  However, when he tries to add my iTunes library, it gives him a code but I can't see his iphone device name so we can't pair his iphone.

  • Remote app not connecting

Since the last system (security?) update last night (10.10.2 (14C1514)) the remote app on both my iPad and iPhone no longer connects. Restarted al devices (Mac mini , apple TV, Airport, iPad, iPhone) logged out and in  for homesharing, but no result. To my confusion the airport apps on my mobile devices indicate there is no airport extreme anymore... (they are very well connected to the internet though...) but the principal airport app on my Mac mini indicates everything is fine. No updates or anything needed and a good connection.
Still the remote app on iPhone and iPad cannot be used. Very annoying...
    Anyone ideas?

Thanks. this might be right. The more because the Airplay option is gone too on iPad and iPhone.
But can anyone explain how to solve this? I just use the default Apple settings and have recently nothing changed. Not on my Mac mini (firewall not activated) and not on my Airport extreme that functions as my router.
