Remote Camera Control and astrophotography for Sony A7(X) and Sony A6000

Hello, Sony makes the best sensors, no doubt about it. Sony makes the best hybryd cameras, that's why i bought a Sony camera BUT ... Astrophotographers are deeply looking at Sony 's camera (especially A7S) because of their astrophotography capabilities but there is a HUGE problem : no software allow BULB mode command, which is very important for astrophotographers. Most of time, astrophotography is some thing like that : 30 pictures, 5 minutes exposure for each picture and we have to add dark frames, flat frames, offset frames and so on. So, if Sony makes a software like Remote Camera Control, why does Sony not include long exposure (over 30s) control in this software ? So come on Mr Sony, don't let Canon leading astrophotographers. Please, add long exposure in your softwares !! Many thanks considering my demand.

I'm going to add that this should be available for ANY alpha series camera that has a bulb mode function in manual control.   This includes ,for example, the a5100.

  • Camera control and Monitor Software

    Hi All,
    Two questions, quasi-related.
First, does anyone know of any camera control software for Sony? I have a TR27 and an HDR FX1.
Second, does anyone have any experience with monitoring software? Specifically, I am looking at the Red Lightning DV Monitor software. It would be nice to go from the camera directly to the hard drive. Also, is there any software which lets you monitor more than one camera simultaneously?
Thanks. Any input/links would be helpful and appreciated.

They should produce the same EXACT version of the RAW file.
The profiles are meant to give approximately the same rendering concerning tone and color. You cannot render the exact same thing as Canon uses proprietary algorithms which Lightroom cannot use. The profiles just approximate those using Lightroom's RAW engine. Also they will only come close if you use default settings in your camera, so no highlight priority, no added saturation, etc. If you want the exact same thing, shoot jpeg or convert the RAW to tiff in DPP. That said, my experience is that the camera matching profiles come very close to out-of-camera rendering as long as you don't modify the styles.
I say they HAVE to, because otherwise who is right - who´s got the true colors (e.g. Faithful style is supposed to represent colors exactly if shot at 5200K, yet DPP Faithful differs from LR faithful????)
None of Canon's styles give accurate rendering. That is not what they are meant to do. They are meant to be visually attractive, which is very different from accurate. Faithful is not really scene referred correct color. See for some measurements of that on one of the more accurate cameras, the Canon 5D mk II, here. The way to get correct color, if that is what you are interested in, is to shoot a colorchecker chart and use Adobe's free DNG profile editor to generate a calibrated profile for your camera.
Also, is there a way to convert other picture styles one has created into Lightroom profiles perhaps through some use of DNG Profile Editor?
No. Would be neat, but is not currently possible without a lot of manual labor. You can shoot a colorchecker and by comparing the rendering in DNG profile editor to that in DPP visually and using the patch tools, you might be able to sort of get there but that is going to be very tedious. It would be nice if we were able to give DNG Profile Editor a different target than perfect rendering of the colorchecker, because right now, the only way to do it is visual.

  • How ACR works with in-camera controls and ADR (Nikon D-lighting)

After using Bridge for years, exploring more intense in-camera color and ADR controls in my D700 has revealed something I did not know and wonder if there is a solution:  Seen in the Bridge thumbnails, the photos show the effects of the in-camera settings, but when I click through to camera raw, the photos lose it, no color effects.  How can I retain the in-camera choices in Camera Raw and thus in the save files in tiff which I prefer for working files.  Thanks for answering what must be a very basic question.

The answer is actually very simple, Gary:  What you are seeing is perfectly normal, expected behavior.  It is as designed, and you cannot change that.
Those in-camera settings you reference apply exclusively to JPEG images, not to raw image captures.
What Bridge is showing you is not a rendering (conversion) of the raw image data, but rather the JPEG preview that is embedded by the camera at the time of recording the image and to which the camera does apply the camera settings.  Depending on your Bridge preference settings, a new preview will be created once you apply your changes to the file.
Adobe Camera Raw is not designed to emulate the conversion performed by the camera manufacturer's software, whether in-camera or otherwise, but to preserve the entire range of characteristics of the image and offer you absolute control over the entire rendering process as well as to give you certain canned camera profiles to automate and/or speed the process.
Camera manufacturers design their raw conversion, in-camera  and otherwise, to compress the shadows in order to hide digital chroma noise, and to provide an over-contrasty, over-saturated and over-sharpened look that appeals to the majority of consumers.  Any savvy, experienced Adobe Camera Raw user can easily emulate said camera manufacturer's software and produce an identical result to the in-camera JPEG.
If you want to "retain the in-camera choices in Camera Raw and thus in the save files in tiff which [you] prefer for working files" you can either (a) shoot straight JPEGs, or (b) come up with your own Camera Raw presets that mimic the conversion of the camera manufacturer.
Raw means raw, uncooked, unsalted and unseasoned.  The in-camera JPEG has already been cooked, salted and seasoned with pepper according to the camera manufacturer's criteria of what constitutes a good rendering of the image.  A good, experienced cook can produce a much better, finer, more sophisticated cooked, salted and seasoned with a myriad herbs image from the raw capture with Adobe Camera Raw, in accordance with the skill, intention of the artist that produced the shot.
Adobe Camera raw gives you complete control, and it allows you to mimic or reproduce whatever look you want including the above described over-contrasty, over-saturated and over-sharpened look that appeals to the majority of consumers, once you learn how to use Adobe Camera Raw to its full extent.  Here's an excellent place to start:

  • When will camera raw update compatibility for Sony RX100 III be available?

Camera raw compatibility is now available for Sony RX100 III for all Adobe Applications.  Why is it not included in latest Apple update?  Any ideas when new camera raw compatibility for this camera will be available?  Why is Apple so slow on this?

Apple can't provide it until Sony provides it to Apple.  Our only source for such inso is THIS.

  • Is there a way to use the Tablet Remote to control a Sony Alpha DSLR Camera?

I own a Sony Tablet and love the ability to use it as a Remote Control.  I also own a Sony Alpha DSLR...yet I can't get the remote control to control the Camera.  Has anyone figured out how to do this yet?  It's a little large, but would be amazing if the camera had DLNA and could automatically publish a photo on the tablet right after I took the pick...with the Tablet remote!!!
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hello Damon,
What is the exact model # of Sony Alpha DSLR Camera?
You can try “Learning from remote” feature if your DSLR camera is remote control capable.
Refer the following link for instructions:
    http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1023514
Camera should be DLNA server capable in order to access pictures from it using DLNA application in the tablet.

  • FCP 7 no longer supports device control for sony cameras?

I recently tried to capture some HDV footage from my Sony HVR-A1U miniDV camcorder in FCP 7.  It's been a little while since I used this camera, but I am certain that the last time I used it to capture footage it was a controllable device.
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, can anyone comment if this rolled-back device control for Sony cameras?  It wants me to capture as a "Sony Firewire device" which is listed under "non-controllable devices"  I am 100% certain I've previously logged timecode and batch captured with this computer and camera.
It initializes the camera just fine, but it captures with no control, as in "capture now."
    I'm on FCP 7.0.3 on a 2 X 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel OSX 10.6.8.
I've tried all the usual re-starting FCP and the device and plugging in/un plugging iLINK cable etc.
Does anyone have a work-around?  I'm not crazy for thinking this used to be possible, right?  Should I roll back to Tiger if I want to use this camera?

I'm on FCP 6.0.6 using OS 10.6.8.  Not using that Sony camera, but the Sony Z7U.  I know this is comparing apples to oranges.  But I can log and capture as a controllable device.  I'm thinking your problem is related to something else besides the OS being 10.6.8.
Have you repaired permissions after you upgraded?

  • Qosmio X300 - Remote control and function bar for windows seven

    Hi,
I have bought this PC with Vista x64. I have upgraded it to windows 7 (x64)
But I didn??t find driver for remote control and function bar. The drivers for Vista *64 don't work.
    Help me plz.
    Thanks for reading
    (Sry for my bad English)

    Hi
The Win 7 drivers are not available for this unit at this time.
But I found some Win 7 drivers on the Toshiba US driver page.
Of course you will not find exactly the same X300 series but you can choose the drives released for Qosmio X305-xxxx
There is no big difference between X300 and X305 so the Win 7 drivers should work too

  • Camera raw for sony alpha 7 and PS 5

    HI
I am an amateur photographer and am very happy in my little PS5 world.  I do not want to commit to PS6 and the CC and a lifetime of fees.  I am, unfortunately, thinking about getting the sony alpha 7.  It is unclear to me if camera raw 6.7 will support it.  I have read 2 different answers on the internet
I love camera raw in PS. If I can't open these images in PS, can I do it in lightroom?  Does lightroom have a nice camera raw?  (I am using camera raw 6.3 and it is wonderful.)
Is there any easy answer for a very casual photographer who cannot justify the cost of monthly program fees?
    thanks!

The Alpha 7 wasn't supported until Camera Raw 8.3 at the end of last year. ACR 8.3 only works in CS6/CC.
I recommend using the latest available version of Camera Raw for each version of CS, which in your case (CS5) is 6.7.1. The latest versions are usually the best, fixing the most bugs and containing refinements missing from earlier versions.
The cheapest way to carry on with CS5 is to download Adobe DNG Converter, and batch-convert folders of your Alpha files to DNG. It's an extra step after downloading your images, but it's free.
Camera Raw 6.7.1 and DNG Converter 8.6 are both available from the downloads section of the Adobe website. Please note that you may need DNG Converter 8.3 if you are still running CS5 on XP/Vista or (Snow-) Leopard.
Photoshop Lightroom is designed by the same team which writes Camera Raw and uses very similar programming. Consequently, it works in a similar way to Camera Raw (with Bridge) and is updated at the same time—following its version numbering by a increment of 3 (currently Lightroom 5.6). You could buy Lightroom and use it to import and convert your raw files without using DNG Converter and Camera Raw. It's a Marmite thing: some people love it, some don't. You can probably download a free trial and find out for yourself. Once you have converted your images in Lightroom, you can export them to Photoshop CS5 for editing.

  • Request for Skype and Camera Controls on Nokia 808...

    Hi Yvonne,
One of the major issues I have with my Nokia 808 is the lack of compatibility of some basic apps like Skype. Some of us need them for business as well as personal needs. Request you to look into rectifying this.
The other major issue in a phone whose USP is its fantastic camera - is the lack of functions to control the aperture or shutter speed in manual mode - c1/c2/c3.
If these are addressed - this is the best camera phone - FULL STOP.

  • Need help with my Toshiba remote control and receiver for Qosmio G30 161

    Hello to all
I have a Toshiba Qosmio G30-161 and with it I have a Toshiba remote control and a Toshiba remote control receiver, this is the first time I have used it (tried to that is), my problem is the remote is not working on the computer when I press any program buttons the computer does nothing.
I have installed four brand new AA batteries and the remote works fine its sending signals to the receiver, the receiver the detecting the remote as a red light appears every time you press a button and as for the computer I have checked the drivers and the USB is picking up the receiver as a E-home remote receiver which I have checked with Toshiba and that is correct, so all in all the remote is working, the receiver is picking up signals and the pc has detected the receiver but nothing works, I have installed remote control manager but this still has done anything. I have spoken to Toshiba help and support and the end result is they are not sure what the problem is. Can anyone help I require the remote for slideshows for customers as I??m a photographer.
Also to confirm I am running Windows XP MCE addition.
    Anthony Worlock

    Hi there,
this remote contol works, if you use it without any special drivers and special software, only in the Media Center.
But if you install such stuff like [WinLirc|winlirc.sourceforge.net] then you should be able to get some functions for your presentation.
Please try this tool and check if it works.
By the way: If I were you I would first read the Manual and FAQ of WinLirc before starting because its a little bit tricky to handle the program. :) (Too many settings :D)

  • HT2499 How do I find the DVD remote control and restart my DVD where I left off?

Hello. I have the external disc player. When I inserted a DVD the first time, the movie started automatically and the DVD remote control came to the screen. However, I had to shut down before I finished watching the movie. I kept the disc drive plugged in and the DVD inside. Now I don't know how/where to find the DVD remote control to restart the movie as it doesn't start automatically without me unplugging the whole thing and restarting it from the beginning.
    Thanks!

Thank-you, Eric. No, it was when the movie was stopped and I had actually turned off the computer for the night. I played around on it a lot and kept googling. I think the way is to launch finder and search DVD player. The remote came up then! Don't know if there's an easier way but I'm happy to restart my movie now. (I am a new Mac user, evidently )  Thanks for replying!

  • Will FCE HD allow camera control of Sony HC-7?

I own a Sony HC-7 and am unable to edit with camera control using FCE HD 3.0. I have no problem whatsoever with iMovie HD where camera control works fine.
I think it's horrible that ver 3 does not allow it with such a main stream brand as Sony, even if it is a relativly newer model.
I will gladly upgrade to 3.5 if it will support camera control. Does anyone know if 3.5 will support camera control with a Sony HC-7?
    Thank you for your replies.
    Jeff
IMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 250 MB hard drive

There are only two choices for HD, one ending in 50, and one ending and 60. I am currently using the one ending in 60, but I have tried both.
I have also gone through the Apple store, and it was determined that the only way to capture video from the Sony HC-7 is to capture it manually without without the use of camera control in the software.
The camera works fine with camera control in iMovie HD, but will not work in the Final Cut Express HD product which I had to purchase! I think that's horrible!
Whose fault is this, Apples or Sony's? You can not talk to anyone at Apple about it for free, and of course, Sony tells you to call Apple about it. You know, the usual passing the buck.
    Thank you for your reply,
    Jeffrey Castaldo
