Remote Codes to Control Apple TV

Apple would never EVER make a TV device that could not be controlled by our TV and/or universal remotes.
Have made numerous posts to ask what is the 3 digit code for my SONY RM-YD017 and DirecTV Remotes.
The nightmare is beginning that this cannot be done...could someone please wake me and tell me that our universal remotes can control the Apple TV...pls..
If the answer is yes, please tell me how, if the answer is NO, shame on Apple.
thx much all

Chenks,
Thx much for your quick reply, but....
What the heck is a logitech harmony remote??????
I am looking to see if and how my SONY remote RM-YD017 that I purchased only six months ago can control my Apple TV?
Or if my Direct TV remote could also do this.
There is NOTHING in the Apple TV, Sony or Direct TV manuals that tells me how. Hope the Flintstones at those firms will please answer my/our requests.
Also see terms like "pairing" your device, but nothing in any of the manuals.
Thx Chenks.

I would like to control my iPod doc with my Denon remote.  Does anyone know he numerical remote code for an apple iPod doc?

    Hi kwg06516,
This remote(RMT-B126A) doesn't have programmable codes because its not a universal remote. It is exclusive for your player(BDP-S3200) only. It may control other devices such as TVs but with the same brand only.

  • When using apple remote app on ipad or iphone to control apple TV is there a way of selecting different airplay speakers?

When using apple remote on ipdad or iphone to control apple TV is there a way to select different airplay speakers without having to control the menu on screen. Eg I want to listed to my music through apple tv (which is in the living room)  and beam it to my airplay speakers in my bedroom, at the moment I would have to go back into the living room to see my tv screen to select the bedroom airplay speakers, then go back upstairs to listen to the music. YOu should be able to select the speakers in app without looking at the TV screen. Hopefully that makes sense!?!

  • HT201397 My "remote" can't control my Apple TV, however apple tv still received signal from "remote"

My "remote" can't control my Apple TV, however apple tv still received signal from "remote" . Before that I have to press and hold the menu button, then the "remote" icon appeared on the screen.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

  • My Apple TV remote will not control or pair with my Apple TV

Remote stopped working with Apple TV this morning. I have replaced the battery and have attempted all the suggested steps by Apple support to pair my remote with Apple TV. Everything fails. When I hold the proper buttons to restore, the activity light starts blinking after about 5 secs and nothing happens. I can't restart Apple TV like I have always been able to with the remote. Apple suggest disconnecting Apple TV from power and HDMI and connect to computer with microUSB cable, go to iTunes and do a restore. This does not work either. Is it time to trade it in for a newer model? Any and all help/suggestions is appreciated.

As Murphy always does, I went back and followed, VERY CLOSELY, the instructions for re-pairing the remote. And guess what, it works now! A Christmas miracle? I doubt... just good 'ole Apple technology. Anyway, the remote works!

  • Remote App cannot control Radio – Continuously displays loading message

Been having this problem for quite a while and no one on the internet seems to know how to fix it. Here are the exact steps:
    1. Connect to Macbook Pro itunes from ipad 2 or iphone 4 using Remote App.
    2. Connection is established and can control local library, volume, start, stop... etc..
    3. Try to click on the "Radio" tab in the side bar... right panel displays "Loading..." messaging.
    4. iTunes on Macbook Pro appears to refresh the listing of radio stations and they are displayed within itunes
    5. iPad or iPhone remote app continues to display the "Loading..." graphic and never actually loads the radio station listing
    Result:
Radio cannot be controlled remotely by the remote app.
    Additional notes:
If you start a radio station from the iTunes app from the computer itself, you can then stop and start it from remote, but you can never control the listing/look for other radio stations, etc.
Is anyone else having this problem? Seems like a huge bug and I'm curious if anyone has found a solution.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Also having a similar problem.  Maybe what I've tried will help, possibly not though as I'm still searching for a solution too.
Have Remote App on iPhone 4S to control Apple TV (ver3) which it does fine regarding playlists on iTunes (on Win PC), but doesn't regarding iTunes Radio.  Curiously, Apple TV has an iTunes Radio app within it's menu, but it can only be controlled (apparently) with the Apple TV remote (not the iPhone Remote App), AND you'll need Apple TV connected to a TV monitor to see what's happening...you can't see it from the Remote App on the iPhone.  I've digressed a bit, sorry.  What I noticed on the Remote App is when you click on your iTunes library and then click on the "More" option (bottom right) it actually has a listing for Radio.  If you click on Radio the genre list comes up then you can select a station.  The problem is that the station never plays.
In another problem post someone suggested creating an iTunes Radio playlist within your iTunes library and then dragging individual radio stations to it, just like you would any other music.  When I tried that, the Remote App can "see" this playlist through your library, but similar to the above, the station never plays once you select it.  Note: The other post suggests that this allows the Remote App to play your radio stations, but I never got it to work.
So, like all above, I'm stuck as well.  Very strange that the Remote App can "see" the Radio stations via my two methods above, but is not able to make them "play".

  • HT1551 How do I pair multiple apple remotes with the same apple TV

I have one apple TV but it is is access on multiple screens via a matrix system. I therefore need an apple remote in each room so I am not having to carry the same one from room to room. Please can someone let me know how this is achieved . . .

It's almost counter-intuitive the way this works. You have to actually "unpair" the remote that it is paired to - then once no specific Apple TV remote is paired, all remotes (any remote, including standard TV remotes) will work!
    The step-by-step would be:
Using a remote that is currently paired navigate to General under settings.
    Go to Remotes.
    Select "Unpair Apple Remote"
Once unpaired, simply back out of all the menus using the menu button to see that it does work. Then try on your other remote(s). It/they will now also work.
You can even use the Learn Remote feature to use a standard TV remote. I use my Directv remote and it works great.
The ONLY thing you need pairing for is if you want only one remote to be capable of controlling the ATV. So therefore unpair any remote that's paired, and you'll be golden.

  • I cannot get the remote application to control iTunes On a Windows Seven Dell Notebook computer

    Hey I need some help.
I cannot get Apple's Remote application to take control of iTunes on a Dell laptop computer.
It says to go to the Edit menu in iTunes On your computer, click on preferences & then click on devices & make sure there is a tick in the box that says look for a remote, but when you go to this Menu, There is nothing that says look for a Remote.  I cannot get my iPad third generation 64GB 3G+WiFi, iPhone five, or iPod touch fifth generation To control iTunes on a Apple TV Second generation Using Apple's remote application. I have checked everything to make sure the software is up-to-date.  I can get it to control  Apple TV fine, but it will not Take control of iTunes.
I have gone through the Pairing process but it still Will not work.  I've installed iTunes twice & checked the Firewall to confirm it is not blocking bonjour OR any other Apple software.   I have even tried completely disabling the firewall. It was perfectly fine last week,  then my friend got his house broken into & he asked me to go onto iCloud.com to try & locate his iPad,  ever since then, it has completely stopped working.  If anybody can help, it will be gladly appreciated.
    Thanks.

That's because it is not a hard drive as such.

    That is correct.
The Sync process is via iTunes...

  • Control Apple TV over the imac?

Is there any chance to control apple tv over the Mac (wifi)? I have my apple tv on on a beamer and I don't like to start the beamer all time if I like to hear music without streaming it.

You can't control an ATV directly from your computer, but you can set the audio output of iTunes to play through the ATV. If you have an iPhone or an iPod touch, you can use the Remote app on that to control an ATV, however.

  • Why won't SKY come up with remote codes for Seiki tv's especially when charging a fortune for SKY

I wish someone could tell me why no remote codes are not available for Seiki tv's instead of coming up with excuses.

Like all new kit, it takes time for the codes to be shared and then programmed into remotes. The Sky Remote has a database of known television codes. Each TV has a group of codes to control the different functions of the TV.Sky develops  sets of codes for each TV manufactured and then applies its own code to the control set.The Sky code is what you need to program the Sky remote so that it uses the control set for the selected TV. Each Sky remote is programmed with updated code databases when it is manufactured and to keep track of what remote does what, it is given a Rev number found inside the battery bay of the remote. In the case of Seiki, the code set was not incorporated by Sky until Rev 10.Anything earlier will not work unless by sheer chance it matches the code set of another TV.

  • Cable TV Remote to connect to Apple TV

I am trying to use my SHAW Cable TV Remote to connect to Apple TV.  Have been able to "learn" the up, down, etc buttons but then it asks for the MENU button...the menu button beside the Settings button on the remote doesn't connect.  Any other suggestions as to what Cable Button they are asking for?

I set the Audio button on my Shaw remote to a device I don't have, in my case I used the code for JBL audio 1306.  I then went into the Apple TV and learned the up down left right & select, menu was set to menu.  All works well, I don't have any strange things happening when I use my Apple TV (controller cross talk) but if you are a higher end user than me, and have JBL hardware, then just search for a brand you don't own.  That should do it.

  • Threat Feed say my ipad2 got threats, memory corruption vulnerability exist, which could lead to remote code execution. How to solve this problem?

Threat Feed (McAfee) say my ipad2 got threats, memory corruption vulnerability exist,
which could lead to remote code execution. How to solve this problem?

You can't solve this problem yourself. You would need to wait for apple to release a "fix" or for McAfee to revise their judgement.
If you're worried about the threats, don't do things that would expose yourself to the vulnerability that they describe.
Since I can't see what you're looking at, I can't give you any other advice.
