Remote console session freezes when scrolling

My host: Laptop running Windows XP SP3.
Guest: Windows 2008 R2, physically on a USB hard drive.
My VMware server version is 2.0.2.
I have ongoing problems with the host session freezing up. I have had this problem intermittently while working in MMC on the guest, or consistently in MS Excel 2008 on the guest. Because I can consistently reproduce the problem in Excel, I'll focus on it. The session will freze simply by selecting a cell, and then dragging down to select multiple rows of cells. If I exceed the number of rows visible, the Excel session should scroll down. Instead, the entire session becomes unresponsive. I can not move the mouse pointer or switch or any other applications in the remote session. My only option is to shut down the virtual machine and restart it.
I have also had the same problem when navigating MMC. The entire session will sometimes freeze after I click the plus sign to open up an item.  In this case, I have not yet identified under what circumstances the "freezing" occurs.

I am experiencing what I think is the same issue. However, my vmware tools (seem) up to date (declared version is 7.7.6, update option is inactive), and there is no svga driver under c:\program files\common files\vmware\drivers (there is one in c:\program files\vmware\vmwaretools\drivers\video though).
The VM freezes after scrolling up/down in notepad++ , exact conditions are hard to define, but usually after 2 minutes of editing a text file a freeze is guaranteed. Only way to recover is a reboot of the VM (a shutdown never completes). Help appreciated.
Host : Ubuntu 9.10,
Version : VMwareServer 2.0.2
Guest : Windows 7 Pro 32bit

  • 30EA3: Monitor sessions grid freezes when scrolling lo last session

    Hi,
I've found an issue with the Monitor Sessions grid.
Steps to reproduce the problem (scenario I have tested an reproduced the issue)
    1. Open monitor sessions window
    2. Order the grid by "OS User" column (In this scenario, my "OS user" is the last one alphabetically)
    3. Scroll down in the grid, until reach the last record (as mentioned above, the last session is the same session that is monitoring since my user is the last one alphabetically)
Then SQL Developer freezes, processor time and memory start to increase; and also, seems that SQL Developer window is trying to get the focus, so it doesnt let me navigate freely to other applications, is even difficult to open task manager to kill the process since SQL developer window in the background keeps getting the focus of mouse and keyboard.
    Thanks and regards
    Ramiro Teran

    Hi Raghu,
    1. As I mentioned, the scenario I tested was the "Monitor Sessions" grid, at first I only tested scrolling down to the last record, in the master grid using the mouse wheel, but now I have also tried crtl+end, and it also happens
    2. 184 records in parent grid (Sessions)
    3. The child grid is the "Active SQL" tab (first tab) of the detail of the session.
    4. Yes, there was a cell in master selected, but when scrolling down and reaching the bottom (or doing ctrl+end), then the last cell is selected automatically, and SQLDeveloper freezes.
As mentioned in my first post, the SQLDeveloper not only freezes, but doesn't let you navigate to other windows (every couple of seconds SQLDeveloper gets focus on its window, even though is frozen)
I have took an screenshot showing the issue, even though, maybe you can't appreciate the issue on an image, since the image only shows the last record of the monitor sessions grid selected, (at that time SQL developer is hanged, and doens't respond to clics or keyboard comands). Also it shows the Task Manager showing increased memory and CPU ussage from the SQL Developer process. If you're interested in this screenshot, let me know where/how to upload it
    Thanks and Regards

  • Console session logout when disconnected

    Hello,
We have got a client with a very basic setup.
It is one Server 2012 R2 with Remote desktop services role. There are a two clients on it, when you disconnect the sessions will reset after 30 minutes. Because it is a small setup there are only using local policy`s and no AD.
We now need the console session to always remain logged in because of a custom application.
The settings is the local policy`s and Remote desktop also effect the console login.
Is there a way to do this?

    Hi,
From your description seems facing issue with session disconnection. Which option /admin or /console you are using to establish the console session? Because when we close the session the status changed to disconnected, but all running programs are kept active
even the user is no longer actively. So I wonder if you have set to force end a disconnected session after a maximum time or idle session limit on Server setting or local policy setting. Please check the configuration on both local group policy and Server
level. For more detailed information about this, you may refer to the following article.
Configure Timeout and Reconnection Settings for Remote Desktop Services Sessions

    Hope it helps!

  • Why my Firefox keeps lagging and freezing when scrolling on Facebook?

When scrolling through Facebook it keeps lagging and freezing for a few seconds, and when it happens it says "Connecting..." on the tab title. It keeps happening while I'm scrolling in the Facebook page, and if I leave the tab with Facebook working all Firefox looks a little laggy.
I've tried some possible solutions here in the support but it keeps happening.
It doesn't happen with others browser, such as Chrome.

  • RDP session freeze when resizing RDP window

    Hi
since last week friday a user reports a freezing RDP session when he resize the RDP window (to move the session window to another screen (PC has 3 screens connected)) of a  . The RDP target is a windows 2008 R2 RDS. Last Friday there were many MS updates
    installed on this PC.
I determined that the issue must be related to the PC, if user connects from another PC to RD-Server the problem doesn't exists. But i have no starting point to search for the reason. There are no warnings or errors in local eventlog. RDP connections to
    another RD-Server work fine.
Any hint where to start to solve this issue?
    Regards Carsten

    Hi Carsten,
    Thanks for the reply.
It seems that the user has updated his RD client to RDP 8.0. If so, please note that Aero Glass is not supported.

  • IPod freezing when scrolling down the music app?

I own a 3rd Generation iPod touch. I plugged it into my computer as usual, but when I decided to disconnect and start listening to the music I had recently put in, I realized that it wouldn't let me scroll very far. I wanted to listen to the Cream albums I had put in my iPod only to realize that I couldn't get past the A's in the list of artists, and if I attempted to go any farther down, it would freeze and crash the music app. My playlists were also wiped blank on my iPod even though they would appear just fine on iTunes when I'd plug in my iPod again.
I've tried resetting and restarting the iPod, closing the music app, and so on, but so far nothing seems to have worked. I don't want to end up having to restore my iPod, because I've a lot of music scattered across different computers and it would be a pain, to say the least, to get that and all the saved photos restored again. Is there anything else I can do?
    Thank you,
    Clyste

    No.

  • Preview freeze when scrolling

    Hi,
When I scroll the pdf in the Preview in Maverick, sometime It will freeze suddenly. And if I move the pointer out of the preview then move it back in, it works.
Does anybody know whats going on about this bug?
    Sometimes its anoying.
    Thanks.

I found a solution that has worked for me.
I found that under System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Mouse & Trackpad -> Trackpad Options, my "Scrolling" field was set to "without Inertia".
Switching that to "with Inertia" has fixed all my Preview scrolling woes. (I think that is the default setting for a new installation of OS X.) I don't particularly like the intertial scroll, but it clearly works much better than the "without inertia" scroll, which seems to fail in Preview right at the point in the algorithm when the inertial movement would normally be applied to the scrolling pane.

  • Forms freezes when scroll down datablock

    Hi,
I don't know if the following issue should be posted here. If not, please redirect me to the right forum.
When a user scrolls down a datablock (with more than 100 rows), the page freezes and won't respond to any other mouse event. The cursor shows the "busy" symbol. The only thing we can do is to close the applet and the browser. This phenomenon cannot be reproduced. It's arbitrary.
We have oracle application server 10.1.2 with SSL. The datablocks of the forms have the following settings: QUERY_ALL_RECORDS = No, Number of records buffered = 0. The forms are developed under oracle forms 6i and compiled using oracle forms 10g client R2 builder.
We've searched for this known issue and got some results about patches to apply on forms 10g (9.0.4). Are there any similar patches for Oracle forms 10g R2?
If not, how to resolve this freezing issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Rgds

There was a known issue which caused scrolling to the last record to result in a hang and/or form crash. This issue has been corrected. However, there is no way of actually knowing if this is the same as what you are experiencing. Just because the symptoms of what you describe may be similar to what I described does not necessarily mean the root cause is/was the same.
I would recommend that you are running the latest of all related software. Here are the details related to patches. They should be applied in this order.
    1. Patch 10.1.2.3 (released March 2008) Same patch for both iAS and iDS
    ..... Patch ID 5983622
    2. Forms Recommend Patch
    ..... Patch ID 9282569
    3. If you use Jinitiator, the latest version is 1.3.1.30
    ..... Patch ID 7410076
If you use Sun JRE, the latest is 1.6.0_20 and can be downloaded from here:

  • Document freezes when scrolling with small black window.

I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 9.1 on Microsoft Windows Vista service pack 1.
On many documents downloaded from the web (eg many academic journal articles) a small black rectangle appears in the lower right hand corner of the acrobat window. The rectangle is black, has a red circle with a white cross on the right hand side (looking like a quit button?), and a progress bar, which fills up with a light blue colour, and words below.
    The words progress through:
    Deskewing Image...
    Rotating Image...
    Decomposing page...
After which the rectangle disappears. There may be words before or after that are too quick for me to see.
The rectangle appears at the end of a scroll operation, either by dragging with the hand tool, dragging the scroll bar, or even just using the up and down arrow keys. However, it may not happen if the scrolling movement is short. It also occurs immediately after I change any of the preferences.
I have not seen this happen on any documents that I have made myself (by printing to acrobat from Microsoft Word).
I originally had this problem with version 9.0. Upgrading to 9.1 did not fix it.
When a friend views a document that has this problem on my computer using Acrobat 7 the rectangle does not appear at all and the document scrolls normally.
I am guessing that this is something that could be turned off in the settings. I have not been able to find the setting because I do not know what this "feature" is called.
Google searches for terms such as <"deskewing image" "decomposing page"> does not reveal anything, nor did a forum search here for "decomposing"
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steve

I have the exact same issue, using Adobe Acrobat Pro v 9.0.0,
the difference is it happens for any document, whether I've made it myself or not.
I generate PDFs all the time from CorelDraw X4 and have to open and check them.
The pause whilst it undergoes the messages Steve described is very annoying.
I read online that removing the three "Reader" plugins from the Programme Files folder might help.
I tried that and it did not help.
Below is a screen capture of the problem highlighted in a red outline:

  • Imac pointer freezes when installing OSX,

Imac intel 2010, mac freezes when Scrolling (Safari, Adobe PDFreader. called support, they suggested a hardwaretest, done that result OK.
Than they suggest to clean HD and to instal OSX.6 again.
Deleted HD. Try to do new installiation OSX6 from dvd, Imac freezes again during installation for several times at ca. 32 minutes to go.
    What can i do?

You can attempt to reset the PRAM in the machine, but it looks as though there's a hardware problem. It's actually kind of difficult to determine if it's the graphics hardware or the mainboard, but neither are really servicable. You'll want to take it to get serviced.

Before is ok, can't remember when this problem show up.
Don't know where to go, please give me a hint.
You have to give us a hint.
    What is your processor?
    How much RAM have you?
What is your video card/ship set?
    What kernel are you running?
I spotted this in your dump:
[drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector DP-2: switching from hotplug detection to polling
In this case, drm means Direct Rendering Management and has to do with your Video subsystem.  An interrupt is where the hardware sends a signal to the processor that something has happened that requires the urgent attention of the processor.  The kernel is protesting that the hardware is barraging it with interrupt requests.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Multiple logon prompts when connecting to either server console session or RDS farm

    All,
Since last Sunday when installing updates users are being asked to login multiple times.
This affects both admins connecting to the console session of members servers and users connecting to RDSH boxes
If i run 'mstsc /v:servername /admin' i'm prompted to enter my credentials.  Normally this will log me right in and i'll land on the desktop.  Now, i'm getting the main login screen on the server and having to enter credentials again.
    All servers are 2008 R2 SP1.
Clients are a mixture of XP SP3 and Win7 SP1.
All servers are in the same member server OU and recieve the same GPO.
The problem only affects approx 50% of servers despite all boxes recieving the same policies and having the same updates installed.
Like i said, this started to occur after we installed updates on all boxes last Sunday. The updates installed were KB2533552 & KB2534366. I've uninstalled KB2534366 but KB2533552 doesnt support removal.
There are no errors in any event logs on any machines.
Is anybody else having issues with recent updates or ideas how to fix as i'm really at a loss now.

    Hi,
Did you enable “Always prompt for password ” in the RD session host or GPO?
If you do, please uncheck this option by the following steps:
    1.
    Start>programs>Administrative Tools>Terminal Services> Terminal services Configuration) >right click on the RDP-TCP go to Properties>Log
on settings tab> Uncheck always prompt for password.
    2.
    Computer/Administrator Templates/Windows Components/Remote Desktop services/Remotedesktop session Host/security/allways prompt for password upon
    connection
    Thanks

  • NULL SID Security Log Event ID 4625 when attempting logon to 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Session Host

This is a new deployment of Server 2008 R2 in a newly created 08 R2 active directory on a newlyt installed 08 R2 RDSH server.
A new generic user is created in AD. That user can log on to the terminal server on the console just fine. But that user cannot logon via RDP. Furthermore, the domain admin credentials also cannot logon via RDP.
When either set of credentials is used, the logon attempt registered in the Windows Security Even Log as a denied attempt with Event ID 4625 reporting a NULL SID.
Troubleshooting: The RDSH has already been disjoined and rejoined to the domain. Also, curious note, there are three ways to save the user account on the RDSH server as a valid user account which has permissions to logon. The one Microsoft recommends is to open computer management and edit the remote desktop users group. When I the accounts here and click apply, they immediately dissapear. Secondly, I can open the computer properties and go to the remote tab. There I find the user accounts added using the previous method are enumerated but not displaying correctly. They show up with the RDSH server name and a question mark. The last way, is to open the Remote Desktop Session Configuration tool and edit the properties of the rdp connection and go to the security tab. This was the only place I could get a user to ‘stick’ but the logon attempts still show a NULL SID and access is denied.
I have scoured every bit of RDS documenation I can find with no luck.
    Thanks,
    Chris

I am also experiencing this issue.
    2008 servers, 2007 exchange on server 2008.
These are fresh servers, fresh AD. Users can log onto domain normally, RDP not working for admin accounts, generating same errors as posted above.
The bigger issue, is that we have a cisco messaging service account that is generating this error on the DC's and the Exchange server as well. The service basically emails users voicemails to their inbox. The user we've created for the cisco service is unable
to authenticate to the exchange server, in turn generating the same errors posted above as well. We can log on to the domain with this account just fine.
Any ideas on this? We have not tried re-adding the servers to the domain.
