Remote control fails if remote desktop connection has occurred...

Windows 7 64 bit. ZCM 11.2.
ZENworks Adaptive Agent Version: 11.2.0.16117
I enabled remote desktop connections to the Windows 7 PC. I can
remote control it through ZCM without any problems. But if someone
makes a remote desktop connection to that PC, I can no longer remote
control it until after the PC is restarted (haven't tested further to
see what else will fix it). When I attempt to remote control through
ZCM, it eventually times out with this error: "Communication error.
It is likely that some other application is running on the specified
port."
Any known fix or workaround for this?
Thanks,
Ken

  • "remote desktop connection has stopped working" When printing from remote desktop connection

I have been having a issue when using a windows 7 machine. I have Remote Desktop to a session on Windows2008 R2, I am using the local printer resources to redirect the printing. However everytime i try to print it crashes the remote desktop application.
Gives me "remote desktop connection has stopped working." I have 4 other computers connected and printing with no issues what so ever. This only happens when i print. It does print by the way just the application crashes.
-I have also updated the printer drivers to newest possible thru the manufactorer website. The printer is a Brother MFC-8890DW. Windows 2008 R2 is up to date for the RDS server. 3 other machines are able to Remote in and print. The user is able to print using
diffrent machines just not the Windows 7 machine.

    Hi,
Happy to hear that you resolved your issue. For another issue which you are facing here trying to provide some suggestion.
As you have commented that you are facing issue with second screen resolution on wide screen. The setting which I am suggesting can only applies when you are using multi-monitor Remote Desktop connections.  If you are making Connections using a single
monitor do not use this setting.
So for this you can try to apply “Limit maximum display resolution” setting in group policy, where you can mention the width & height for the screen to display. The setting can be applied on below mentioned
    path.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment
Meanwhile sharing article with you for more information.

    Hiya,
What O/S versions(RDP) are you connecting to and from? Try and open the target machines event log and see what it throws when you try to connect.

  • Remote Desktop Connection has stopped working

Using Build 10041. Occurs on 2 separate systems I have when trying to use Remote Desktop Connection through a 2012 R2 RDS Gateway. I am able to connect to the remote systems and access the environment for a short period prior to MSTSC.EXE
crashing. "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Tried this with no luck.  I have the same issue as the OP.  It was failing on 10041 and is still failing with an AV on 10049.  See below event log entry after registering mstscax.dll and rebooting.  Still failing.

    Hi,
Based on the current situation, this error means mstsc.exe made a call into ntdll.dll (which is part of the Windows operating system) and whatever they're doing, they're doing it wrong because it caused a crash.
Let us try capture a dump file  and upload your app dump file.
First enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\mstsc.exe]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\
      00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010
    "DumpType"=dword:00000001
    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
Then, do a Remote Desktop Connection which may cause the issue. If error appeared, please find the crashdump file under c:\.
Note: I highly recommend you use SkyDrive to upload collected files and to post screen shots/pictures. Although you might not be used to it, SkyDrive features a lot of free advanced functionality around file storage capacity, sharing, privacy, and collaboration:

    Keep post.

so check for a printer driver update and what you can also do is to avoid mapping your printer to the Remote Desktop. Maybe this also fixes the issue.

I have tried not mapping to remote printers, or drives (smart cards etc.) and it still persists. When I remote to Windows Server or Win 7, it does not happen.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you
    mi

FYI, same issue here, Windows 8.1 on ThinkPad W520 (upgraded from Windows 8).
Even without Fingerprint Manager, and having uninstalled ThinkVantage Password Manager as well, still crashes.  I also tried the:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
but no luck, my mstsc.exe is still crashing when the remote session window is closed.
Any ideas?  Happy to upload/provide more details, here's the Report.wer contents from

  • Remote Desktop Connection With Custom Certificate on Windows 8.1 fails

I'm trying to establish a secured remote desktop connection without success.
    The setting
There are some local pcs with windows 8.1 Pro and windows 7 Pro, no server-edition. I've created a self signed ca-certificate with openssl for Windows. I used this to sign custom certs for the local windows-pcs, which are installed at mmc -> certificate
snap-in for local computer -> My Certificates -> Certificates. The networkdriver has the right to read the key. The sha1-fingerprint of the custom signed certs are registered at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp
-> SSLCertificateSHA1Hash = sha-1 hash of the custom local cert. Additionally the revocation-list is restrained to the local list by setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\Credssp -> UseCachedCRLOnlyAndIgnoreRevocationUnknownErrors
    = 1.
    The results
The connection form win 8.1 to win 7 works. The connection info confirms that it is a veryfied connection. The connection to windows 8.1 fails after entering the credentials with error: No connection possible. Network Level Authentication is set, but other
level don't work as well. The log (Event Views -> Applications and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager -> Admin) says "Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration
from server" and "The Local Security Authority Cannot Be Contacted" (error 0x80090304)
    Aditional information
The connection via linux (remmina) works for win 7 and win 8.1, but I have no information about the encryption. It is the same with the Microsoft Remote Desktop Tool for Android.
Maybe it is accociatet with a different cert handling by Windows 8.1 but I couldn't find further information or a solution in the internet.
    Best regards
    abditus

    I solved the problem!
The default openssl certificate signature algorithm is md5RSA but it doesn't work with windows 8.1.
It is at least sha1RSA needed.
By adding "default_md = sha1" to the openssl.cnf you create certs with sha1RSA and it works fine.

  • Remote Desktop Connection fails

I have a new Server 2012 R2 essentials install. I have tried connecting with remote desktop connection but have no success.
I can connect to the server at the local desktop. From any other computer on the network it fails.
I have checked a plethora of things I found on the internet but with no luck.
I have tried to connect by ip address, no luck.
I can ping the server just fine.
I cant find anything of help in the event viewer logs.
    Any help appreciated.

Did you get any error message when failed to connect the server via remote desktop connection? Please use an administrator account to connect the server via remote desktop connection and check if the same issue still exist.
Remote Desktop goes to: Initiating connection for about 15 seconds, then I get:
Remote Desktop cannot connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
    1.  Remote access to the severe is not enabled.
    2.  The remote computer is turned off.
    3.  The remote computer is not available on the network.
In the Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, please follow the path: Control Panel-> System-> Change settings-> System Properties-> Remote and check if select "Allow remote connections to this computer" option.
I checked, it was already set.
In addition, please also open Group Policy Editor and follow the path: Computer Configuration-> Windows Settings-> Security Settings-> Local Policies-> User Right Assignment-> Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services. Add that correct
user or group, then check if this issue still exist.
I checked, it was already set.

  • SQL Server jobs fail if I signout the Remote Desktop connection

I have some SSIS jobs running in the production server which we usually take that server by Windows' Remote Desktop Connection to monitor the jobs. The problem in our case is If we sign out the server in remote connection, all the sql server jobs getting failed

  • Remote desktop connection. An internal error has occurred.

    Hello,
The error occurs from a Windows 7 Home computer to a Windows 7 Professional computer.
I connect successfully through a Sonic Wall VPN client.
I can ping the IP address of the remote computer.
I run remote desktop (using IP address of the remote computer) and get error:
"Remote desktop connection.  An internal error has occurred."
It used to work flawlessly and all of a sudden quit working.
    Please advise.

It was a VPN configuration issue on the Sonic Wall.
What was the VPN configuration issue on the Sonicwall?

  • Control alt delete from remote desktop connection through virtual pc windows xp on windows 7 professional

Ok this is an odd one but I am connecting to a server through a vpn which only works on windows xp so I ran a virtual pc instance to connect, and then did a remote desktop connection to the server (Windows server 2008). I need to be able to activate the
control-alt-delete combination on the server however, to change a password. ctrl + alt + del obviously goes back to my actual machine, and ctrl + alt + end acts on my virtual pc. Is there any way to push the command through to the remote server?

    Hi Cooljoe,
Based on my understanding, local machine control-alt-delete key combination is control-alt-delete.
Virtual PC's control-alt-delete key combination is Right Alt - Delete.
Remote Destop session's control-alt-delete key combination is ctrl + alt +
    end.
There should be no conflicts between them.

    Hi,
You can try to toggle the various options in the '''Experience''' tab of RD.

  • Bug report: Under Remote Desktop Connection, local units and resources menu has OK button missing

I've noticed that the "Local units and resources" in Remote Desktop Connection is missing an OK button. It seems to be a localization issue because I changed my Windows profile language to English, logged out and back in again, started RDC and
the Ok and Cancel button became visible. Changed my language back to Norwegian again and the buttons are gone again.
I have also confirmed this by testing the same on a clean new installation.
Temporary Work-around: Select an option, press tab-key once (it will select the OK button which you cannot see), then press Enter.

    Hi,
Based on my test,I got the same result.
    Thanks for your feedback.
We will submit this issue to Microsoft product team.
