Remote Control Menu Button

Starting from the top, I have a 1st play title menu (A) with 4 buttons that are targeted to 4 other menus (B) – each of which, have multiple motion buttons leading to individual clips (C).
I would like to be able to click on the Remote Control Menu button anywhere within the DVD and have it return to the 1st play title menu (A). In the Disc Inspector, I have set the “Remote Control” pull down menu to the 1st play title menu (A).
I can achieve what I want by clicking on the Remote Control “Title” button but not the “Menu” button. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry - I made an assumption that you were not able to go fro a track to the title menu... what you are asking is to go from a menu to the title menu by using the ;menu' key.
Sadly, it won't be possible - the Menu key is designed to move only between tracks and menus. If you are in a track it will take you to a menu, once there, pressing it again willr eturn you to the track.
You need to use the 'return' key to traverse through the menus, but it isn't a robust implementation in DVDSP.
Therefore, the only way to accomplish what you want is to use the Title key on the remote control when in a menu... unless you add a button to each sub menu that jumps to the title menu.

  • Disable the remote control, menu.

Maybe a dumb question but I can't seem to find a way to disable the menu that comes up from the remote control. It seems to jump up once in a while and I never use it and would just like to disable it.
    Thanks

    Yes, I didn't realize that's what it's called.
I use an application called synergy http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ to share the mouse and keyboard with a windose machine, a linux box and this mac. It is a really nice way to stay somewhat OS agnostic, it also shares the clipboard with the various machines. I really like the app. However, this nagging problem happens occasionally where Front Row will just randomly pop up and I can't get back out of it. So all I can do is reboot. I'm not sure what causes it, although I'm fairly sure it has something to do with synergy. I did not know there was an easy way to disable the remote, so I've done that now and maybe it will make a difference. But is there a way to just completely disable, uninstall Front Row?
    Thanks

  • Remote control Shortcuts button

Hi I have the new BT vision black remote, change over went ok. On my last remote I could use the Shortcuts button to alter the picture size. i.e - Zoom, Widescreen, etc. On this one when it's pressed "Shortcuts" the BT Vision light flashes and so does the box but nothing appears on the screen.  It's also the same for the Help button.  Any ideas? Thanks

I would guess the same reason. It took a while to be implemented on the old system too if I remember rightly.
If having black bars down the side of programmes which are made in 4:3 ratio really bothers you you can set the box to 4:3 mode via the Help and Settings menu and use the TV to distort the picture.  Just remember to set it back again for any programmes which are originally made widescreen or you'll be chopping the edges off and then distorting what's left which isn't good.

  • Controlling menu button overlay?

I made a title menu video clip in Motion, with all the text including chapter headings.
I imported it into Studio Pro. I added buttons overtop the text in the video clip. I linked the buttons to the chapters. Everything works.
I added an overlay to the buttons ... mainly for the DVD Players, so the viewer can SEE his\her selections with the remote.
My video clip starts in black, the chapter text headings take 8 seconds to appear. My 'normal' not-yet-selected overlay mode actually shows up as a coloured rectangle (the same colour as the 'selected' mode) where the first button is placed. The text appears later, in the rectangle. So I have a not-wanted colour rectangle in the frame for 8 seconds.
    Is there a way:
    1. I can have the button overlay rectangle appear later in the menu video clip timeline - when the actual text arrives?
    Or...
    2. I can somehow have the 'normal' mode in play (as a non-colour, neutral or transparent nothing), until the mouse, or the controller actually 'selects' the chapter text (in the button)? At which point the coloured 'selected' rectangle would appear.
    All ears,
    Ben

    Is there a way:
    1. I can have the button overlay rectangle appear
later in the menu video clip timeline - when the
    actual text arrives?
Straight through DVD SP, nope (unless I missed something, have not tried all the tricks in DVD SP 4) but you can do it either by (a) some some other editing software like dvdafteredit (thought I saw an article on this once) or (b) some tricks [but the easier way is below in settings :)]
i.) have the clip cut and put the menus next to one another and have it auto jump to the next menu (though you will probably see the jump on most players)
2.) Build subtitles/buttons on a movie track and make that work as a menu
    2. I can somehow have the 'normal' mode in play (as
a non-colour, neutral or transparent nothing), until
the mouse, or the controller actually 'selects' the
chapter text (in the button)? At which point the
    coloured 'selected' rectangle would appear.
The easiest way will be have the buttons all non-highlighted unless selected (change settings so you do not see the rectangle) .. the only issue is that one button by default is always selected, so you can make an invisible button, and then people will have to press to get to the next buttons, but then they can move around by setting the up down left right buttons not to ever move to the invisible button

  • Remote Control OK button no longer works for program information

We used to have a home media DVR and when watching a show I could hit the OK button to see it's information at the bottom.  We just switched to a HD DVR instead of the Home Media DVR since we don't need it any longer.   I was able to set it up w/out any issues, but now when I hit OK nothing happens.  I played in the settings menu, but didnt see anything regarding this.  Does anyone know how to set this up?
    Thank you!
    Sonya

Thanks for the advice but I've tried resetting network settings and also the reset by pressing home and sleep buttons until getting the Apple logo. Still have the same problem. To be clear (because I mistakenly typed black instead of blank in the title to this thread): If I press the phone button I get a BLANK WHITE screen for a few seconds then it goes back to the home screen. I doubt it's the SIM card as I can receive calls and make them directly from contacts. What I can't do is view my favourite numbers or missed calls or access my voicemail, i.e. all the things you get to via pressing the phone button.

  • Menu button jumps to wrong submenu

Hi, I'd consider myself an advanced DVDSP user, I've used my own problem solving on this one and was hoping it is a known program glitch...anyone seen it before?
My main menu has four buttons linking to sub menus. When one of those buttons is selected it will play the video transition properly but then jump to a menu that has the background of a different menu, but the buttons are all screwed up. The buttons jump to various places throughout the DVD with no rhme or reason.
After my problem solving didn't turn anything up, I crossed it off as a freak incident and rebuilt the menu...which solved the problem. But then the same thing happened to another menu.
One noticible detail...everything works great in the inspector, the problem only occurs upon building it and viewing the video_TS folder in DVD Player or from the burned disc on a standard player.
    Any thoughts?
I've got to finish this up and record to DLT...I'm a little nervous about getting back the pressed discs with some random problem that didn't show up elsewhere.
    Thanks!

You still don't have an answer?? Give us a chance! This is a voluntary group you know - all users of the software just like you. Between your first post in this thread and the second is less than half an hour.
To answer your impatient question, the menu button is supposed to go from menu to track and from track to menu. It doesn't jump about randomly at all, it simply moves from one domain to the other. If yours is jumping randomly then you really need to examine that bit and sort out why first of all.
If you really want to disable the remote control menu button whilst in a menu, have a look in the user operations of the property inspector in the advanced tab. You can disable menu calls there. Mind you, it will make your disc somewhat unusual and go against a few established conventions... better to teach your viewers how to use the navigation than to simply disable it for them.

  • Any updates on the remote Menu button

I haven't seen anything lately on the issue of using the remote's "Menu" button to access play lists etc when the video ipod is hooked up to a TV via the doc and an AV cable. Are there any updates on this? I am getting kind of tired of having to walk over to the TV to change playlists, etc. etc.

Well, I am taking about something a little different. Your link refers to what you see on your TV screen. I can get by without mirroring, its the remote i want to work better.
When the 'iPod Dock with Remote' originally came out, a lot of us assumed that the "menu" button would work the same way as the "menu" button on the ipod itself, i.e. it would take you back one level. We also assumed that the volume keys would let you scroll up and down through items in a menu (not as elegant as the scroll wheel, but workable). And that the RWD and FWD buttons would work as they do on the ipod. All of this taken together would give you full operation of your ipod without having to touch it. Adding screen mirroring would be the icing on the cake for the dedicated couch potato.
Unfortunately, the menu button is disabled on the remote when it comes to controlling an ipod... it only works for front row on a mac.
Anyway, a lot of us were hoping this could get resolved through some kind of firmware upgrade to the ipod itself.

  • I dont' get why remote control is so importand with scripts

I've got my dvd working, but i just don't get why the remote control menu so important is.
    the situation i'm having is:
I've got an play all button (when it is hit it gets the value 1)
when you push the menu button on the remote, the pre-script gets rid of the value 1 and turns it in to value 0
with value 0 you can look at a track and after that it goes back to the menu, value 1 makes sure that after track 1, track 2 is being played.
But when someone is playing the 'play all' (value 1) and hits the menu button for a pauze and hits it again to play where he was. you get the value 0.
When you say in the inspector under remote control -> menu -> menu1:button1 he stays with the value 1. although you have been in de menu..
Hope someone can give me a answer.

It all depends on how you access the menu. Pre-scripts are good in lots of situations, but can be bypassed in others. If you have read the article over at
    http://www.editorsbin.com/authoring/playall.html
towards the bottom I discuss several different scenarios where the play all could get interrupted and you need to think about how you will get around it. Your specific situation is one such issue, and the way around it is to use button values instead of setting values in menu prescripts. You should also try using 'free-standing' scripts - i.e. scripts that are not prescripts, but which do the same job and then send the viewer on to the appropriate menu. By pointing to these you can ensure the value is retained under differetn circumstances each time, and make sure the viewer returns safely back to the 'play all' option they were taking a break from.
None of this is particularly easy, but it is at least logical! With care you should be able to script a play all from different tracks using any number of menus. If you need a hand with those scripts, let me know.
Alternatively, have a look here at my blog where I show a different way to achieve the scripted solution.

  • Remote Control settings for Markers

The user manual for Studio Pro 4 states that Remote Control settings for Markers will override all other settings while that part of the track or story plays.
This however, is not the case- In my project the track & story settings for Remote Control>Menu are actually overriding marker Remote Control>Menu settings, & I really need the marker functions to take precedence over other functions.
Any idea how I can make this happen?
    Thanks!!
    eric

As Jake said - I am not seeing this behaviour either.
If you clear all end jumps from chapter markers and place the markers into stories then you set the menu call for the story. This can be different to the track and depending on which you are playing the menu call for that item will take precedence.
Of course, if you really want to make it bullet proof then you could point the menu call to a script. Assuming that no matter which story you are in, or how you got to the marker in the track, the following script will always return you to a specific button on a menu for the marker that you have just played
    mov GPRM0, SPRM7
    Jump Menuname, [GPRM0]
SPRM7 is a system parameter that checks which marker has just played. The first line of the script loads the value of this into a memory slot called GPRM0. The second line operates a jump to your menu - I assume there is only one menu here - and using a conditional GPRM based button jump, the value of GPRM0 fills in the value of the button to go to. This saves writing out lines of code for each possible button.
If you have lots of menus then this script can be adapted very easily to cope with that, or you can set up other scripts to identify which menu you have come from so as you know which to go back to.
However, before any of this I would want to know why you are not getting the expected behaviour on our project - my guess is that there is going to be a menu call set into a chapter marker which is over-riding the track or story menu call. If you have end jumps on markers, or menu calls on markers, remove them.

  • Title & Menu Buttons not working correctly on remote control/ set top player but work in preview.

Title & Menu Buttons not working correctly on remote control/ set top player but work in encore preview. This only happens for a Blu ray project. When a user presses the menu button it should go to the previous menu they were on but it goes to the main menu. When they press the title button they should go to the main menu but it doesn't do anything. My DVD projects work as expected.I've tried creating a new "test" project with different footage and still get the same undesirable results.
Overrides grayed out and set to "not set" for timelines and menus.Project settings and build are set to blu ray. Also I've noticed when I preview a Bluray project the preview window shows a red colored disc next to the Title button when viewing the timelines and green when playing the menus but not so for a DVD project it displays red if motion menus and or timelines are not rendered/encoded. I'm not using motion menus and all the media is encoded according to the project specs.
I've searched this forum but couldn't find the answer. Any help or redirects to a solution would be appreciated. Working with CS5. Thanks.

I found out on my Samsung Blu ray player the remote has a tools button on it that brings up audio, angle, chapter selection etc.and also title selection which is actually the menus and the timelines unfortunately. It's not as easy or direct as last menu selected but it's a workaround at least. I also plan on using a pop up menu. I'll let you know.

  • Remote control: just the menu button working

on my new iMac 20" the only thing I can do with the remote control is bring up or close front row with the menu button, the other functions do not work - I have to press the arrow keys on the keyboard to switch from one application to the next e.g.

Ok folks, here is what I did should anybody be in the same case: I took out the battery and put it back again and than 'twisted' the remote control along its longitudinal axis till I heard a small cracking sound from the plastic material and that's it: the remote control works perfect now! there seems to be generous
    tolerances in manufacturing quality here..

Sadly Snow Leopard was the last OS X to have Front Row and it is no longer offered in Lion or Mountain.
see > Farewell Front Row | Macworld
If you want, you can get it back with some tweaking.
see > Get Front Row for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
or > Use Front Row In OS X Lion
Also note: that your remote should still be working for waking the Mac, volume control and iTunes...? If it is not, let us know for help with it.

  • Using the Menu Button in Remote Control

My question is this: Let's say I have 5 menus. When I go to the 4th menu and simulate it in DVDSP, I then hit the "menu" button on the remote but it always takes me back to menu 1. I know how to change this but I'm only able to select one option which I've set to Menu 1 but is there a way for my client to select a chapter in menu 2 and when he hits the Menu Return or Menu button that it goes back to the menu 2 which he was previously on.

    Hi Charles,
Are you still facing this issue. Is this issue reproducible with every file you want to convert.
