Cannot "Remote Control" Users in a RDP (TS) server.
So, I have a few Terminal servers (now called Remote Desktop Servers) setup and running, various Operating systems, but all 2008r2 and above.
All of them are having an issue that has cropped up over the last few months. Either in Task manger, or in the Remote Desktop Manger, I cannot right click and select "Remote Control" to see what a user sees.
As you can see the, connect and Remote control are Grayed out. Although on some of the servers, I can connect, that disconnects the user from the system.
I cannot find a setting that allows me to unlock this ability.
I am an admin, and I can provide any information that you need.
Thanks!
Rule your day, you never know when it might be your last.I am remoted into the server, and running the manager from the remote session.
I see the same behaviour from the console session of the server.

Remote control users = screen goes crazy
Whenever I try to remote control some users not all. It causes my remote
control screen to do funny things like it will turn all white and I can't
see anything. But when I remote control them by their workstation
everything works just fine. What could cause such a thing? I don't
understand why it goes all crazy when I select a user but everythings fine
when I select the users workstation.
Thanksjoe,

Problems with remote control and user accounts - error 1759?
We're running:
-XP Pro SP2 clients with Zen SP1 IR3a agent, 4.91 SP2 Netware client.
-We are NOT running Middle Tier.
-Novell servers are running Netware 6.5 SP7, E-directory 8.7.3.10b or 8.8.
-Zen server is also SP1 IR3a.
We have no problem using remote control on workstation objects. We are having intermittent issues with remote controlling user objects. When the issue occurs, we receive the following error, "Error 1759: The selected user is not logged in on any workstations" even though the user is in fact logged in. After some more research, it appears that the "networkAddress" attribute of the user object is blank so we feel that this is the root cause. My question is what would cause the networkAddress attribute to randomly not update? For instance we had a user (verified his login) who we could not remote via the user object (workstation object worked). We checked his networkAddress attribute and found that it was empty. User rebooted and logged in again and his networkAddress attribute populated, and then we could remote control him via the user object. Now this isn't always the case after a reboot. There doesn't appear to be any pattern to when the networkAddress attribute does or does not update. In fact, this particular user has a laptop so he boots it up fresh every morning yet he was not showing a network address when he logged in initially today.
We've followed the troubleshooting steps in Novell Documentation without any success. Is there anything else that we might be missing, especially with respect to getting the networkAddress attribute to update? We ran a DSreport on that attribute and found about 500 out of a total of 1500 users had no networkAddress. Some of those are sure to be legitimate but that number is much too high for the number of people that should be in the office.
I've read some older threads on the subject but none of them really provide a firm solution. Also most of the older threads reference Middle Tier which we are not using.
Thanks in advance.> 4.91 SP2 Netware client.
You could try this TID:
"A user will no longer have an entry in their "Network Address" attribute
even though they are logged into the eDirectory Tree."
http://www.novell.com/support/viewCo...1262&sliceId=1
"Resolution"
"This was fixed in the 4.91 SP3 client. NWFS.SYS was modified so that it
will check the monitor connection on a reconnect and if it is not connected
close the connection and try and get a new monitor connection to the tree.
Prior to the 4.91 SP3 client, the solution is to have the user login again
so that it issues the NDS Finish Login request again that will populate
Network Address again."

Allowing the domain users Group to SCCM 2012 Remote Control
Hi There,
been working on this issue for the last few days now and its frustrating the crap out of me. My company has requested for all Domain users to be allowed to Remote Control to everyone's computer. This is so that users will be able to show each other how to
use in house application. In SCCM 2012 console, I've added the Domain users to the Premitted viewer tab. I've also added the domain user group to the administrative user section, added the Remote operator role and assigned the
ALL security scope to it. On another machine, i run the CMRCviewer to this machine and it prompts for username advising me the one i provided isn't authorized. when i check on the targeted machine, i can see domain users populated in the ConfigMgr
remote control user group
It seems only domain admins have rights to Remote control in. i've only got one client setting defined (default policy).
the interesting thing is the following layout
WINDOWS XP ---> WINDOWS 7 prompts for username
WINDOWS 7 -----> WINDOWS XP works
WINDOWS XP -----> WINDOWS XP works
WINDOWS 7 ------> WINDOWS 7 prompts for usernameHi Dave,

How do I remote control a user in remote desktop services in Windows Server 2012?
Hello,
we currently operate in a 2008 R2 environment with the majority of clients connecting to our terminal servers. We use the remote control feature in terminal services manager to connect to a users session when a user phones our helpdesk with
a question / issue.
Just today I've installed 2012 server on a hyper-v virtual machine to have a play with it. I've installed the Remote Desktop Services and noticed this remote control feature is gone. I can still log off or send a message to a user, but I can
no longer remote control their session.
I've seen one or two other posts stating this feature has been removed completely.
So, a couple of questions:
1. How on earth do I "shadow" or connect to a users session now?
2. If I have to go third party to get this functionality back, what's the best software on the market for this and does it support remote connecting of users who have their RDP session span multiple monitors? (2008 R2 doesn't)
3. Will Microsoft ever bring this feature back? as at this stage I doubt we would move to 2012. This is the one feature that is crucial to the day-to-day running of our helpdesk.
Cheers.A large percentage of our IT support business is through remote management. Most of our large enterprise customers are Terminal Server environment (now called Remote Desktop - why does Microsoft have to change EVERYTHING - how would they feel if I changed
the colour of the sky from blue to red just because I could?).
Last week, after much expense to the customer (and realising that there WOULD be some cosmetic headaches to contend with Server Management) we installed a new "Remote Desktop Server" for them and shifting them from 2003 - a big leap so we discovered.
During deployment it came as a HORRIFIC surprise that we could not remote control user's sessions!
Yes, we ARE to blame for not fully realising the cock-up Microsoft has made for us. We should have fully researched every detail of what changes they made and what they have robbed us of.
Firstly, the removal of the ability to fully manage user's sessions came as a HUGE blow!
The remaining multiple issues that followed (including the hugely cumbersome and SLOW way of accessing user's sessions and the false information that the console was reporting users logged in when they had already logged out) suddenly resulted in us decommissioning
the new 2012 installation in favour of a 2008 R2 installation.
Some may ask; Why not use "Third Party" apps to counteract the issue? Firstly; why spend MORE and why use a third party app that "is as" cumbersome to use just because of a freaking feature that Microsoft deemed a "security risk" - for G.D sake!
We have now been directed by management to convince customers that a move to 2012 is NOT recommended - good choice boss, I love you!
The question is; will Microsoft re-implement this feature and fix Server Management performance/accessibility in a future release before 2008 R2 is no longer available? Probably not - it looks like their stubbornness to forge ahead with their craze mind-set
of transforming their products into something that is now annoying millions (including their bloody push towards everything-cloud which NONE of our customers want anything to do with).
Microsoft! Get us back on to your side and take a step back, take a deep breath and listen to consumers! -
Remote Control on C540 All-in-one
I just purchased a C540 All-in-One, with Windows 8, recently upgraded to 8.1
It can be also used as a TV or video recorder, and I run, successfully, the AVerMedia TV Player App, setting up correctly the TV and channels tuning (I used mouse and keyboard)
However, I failed to use the IR Remote Control. It simply doesn't have any effect on the PC.
I checked with the vendor, also using a different PC and a different Remote Control, with the same negative results.
Batteries have been replaced and IR Driver has been upgraded: no joy.
Since it is a brand new PC I don't think is a hardware problem, rather than a software one. I checked on the Users Manuals (PC and Remote Control), but I couldn't find any useful info (Indeed, the Remote Control User Guide is very poor).
Is there any solution to this problem?I spent some time (2 hrs) again with the vendor, trying to solve the issue.
The only result we got is that, when the PC is in suspended status, it can be resumed by pressing "ON" button of the IR Remote Control. That's all.
My suspect is therefore confirmed: it isn't a hardware issue. It lokks like the IR Remote Controller and the PC can talk eachother, but they speak different languages.
It is quite a surprise that I couldn't find any information on the use (Settings? Activation?) of the remote control, nor in the topics of this forum. Really I'm the only one trying to watch TV on the PC? Are there any users of a C540 who can tell me their experience?
Thank you -
Hi.
Trying to give some non-admin users the right to remote control workstations via the user object. I have followed the tids/documentation for
this when using ConsoleOne and that works just fine.
When trying to remote control a user object with desktop4.exe (dopps zenwsbrowser actually) there seems to be some rights missing. Making the
user into an admin solves the problem and until the remote controlled user changes IP on his workstation it keeps on working even when removing
admin rights.
So the question is simply put:
What rights is needed on user AND workstation objects to remote control with desktop4.exe? Or if someone knows how I can check what attributes
has changed on a user after a remote control has been performed that would be sweet too.

Remote control error 1891 after eDir upgrade?
- NW6sp3 two-node cluster (production server) houses read/write replica
- NW6sp3 utility server houses master replica and is a ZenWorks 4IR5 server
- The above servers reside in a small chunk of a much larger NDS tree
- Roughly 150 users with the 4.90sp2 client + Zen4IR5 agent
- ConsoleOne 1.3.6c with current Zen and Cluster snapins
Is there a known preferred method (or recommended method) of authenticating
to either read/write or master replica's? Here is my issue:
Prior to upgrading all three servers above to eDir 8.7.3.3, I was able to
use Zen to remote control my users's PC's. I WAS logging into the cluster
(read/write replica), just like all my users still do today. I began seeing
the remote control error "1891" which various TID's describe as an issue
with close proximity to a pure IPX server, and remote control fails. I have
no IPX running in my network currently. Opened tickets with Novell in both
their Zen and eDir teams.....no solution's yet. As I began banging around,
I found that if I force my login to the utility server (master repica in
this case) I now regain remote control ability to my users that authenticate
to the cluster (read/write). Also, if I intentionally login to a different
context of our tree (have a different admin create a temp account for me in
his context, say) first and not into my own context, I can remote control my
users in my context via ConsoleOne. Similarly, if I login to a different
context upon startup, then once the Windows desktop is loaded and I right
click the red N in my system tray, and login as myself into my own context,
I can remote control users. The issue arises when the first context I login
to is my own. Odd I say, odd.
I've done every flavor of dsrepair switches (-xk3, -a, timesync, etc) and
provided logs to Novell. Each dsrepair variant returns zero errors. I
believe the tree is healthy from what I and Novell can tell.
Attached are some logs from about a month ago when I started seeing these
remote control errors. Please note the time stamps on both the remote
controller and remote controlled machines.
I've posted this over on the eDir board as well since it feels like an
authentication issue to me....
Thanks for taking the time to look at this,
Mike

Cannot remote control clients in another domain
Hi,
I have successfully rolled out SCCM 2012 clients with SCEP to machines in our current domain but I now need to do the same to another domain (in a two way trusted forest/domain). I can install the clients without any issue (by adding the DNSSUFFIX argument
to the client push so it can find it's way home), and they are reporting back in successfully including inventories.
However I cannot remote control any of these clients from the console, I've added a domain admin account (from the trusted domain) as a viewer and I've added the Windows firewall exceptions in the agent details. I can get to these clients without any
issues, tracert is fine so I know the routing is good.
If I try and connect I get the generic "Cannot connect to computer" (after "initiating security handshake"), if I do it direct from the Remote Control client I can remote control the client after dismissing the warning "Remote computer
identity cannot be identified". But I understand that this uses NTLM rather than Kerberos.
What have I missed ? I had all this working in SCCM 2007 without any issues so pretty sure the underlying infrastructure is sound.
Any help gratefully received and thanks for taking the time to read this.
Brian. Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply - I'll put this is the one reply it's easier !
@Jason
Interesting about the DNSSUFFIX thing, there are DNS forwarders back to the domain and it seems to find its way home. When I had SCCM 2007 I used the SMSSLP parameter for the client install, I can't do that in SCCM 2012 hence the DNSSUFFIX parameter.
CmRcViewer.log has been very helpful, I didn't know that one existed - I guess I have some kind of lookup issue going on ;

The issue is from the console - I can connect via FQDN or IP but get the warning "The Remote computer identity cannot be verified".
@Joyce
See the extract above, thanks for pointing me towards this log. I can confirm that the correct Firewall exceptions are in place and the membership of the ConfigMgr Remote Control Users reflects the permitted viewers in the client settings.
Just seeing if I can resolve the lookup issue, DNS seems to fine ! Unless I've missed something in SCCM. -
Win2k8 Remote Control Not Working With SRSS 4.2 + SRWC 2.2
Hi there.
I have an install of Windows Server 2008 (32bit) with SRSS 4.2 & SRWC 2.2 setup. I was previously on SRSS 4.1 & SRWC 2.1 and having the same issue I am having now, which to me tells me this problem is unresolved or i'm being a total muppet. (hopefully not the last one)
Windows Terminal Server environments has this awesome remote control feature where you can login to an RDP session which is already active and take control of the session while the end user is still logged in.With Server 2003 this works perfectly fine- it's brilliant. WIth 2008 it is a nightmare. It works for a split second and then closes off. The end users session also gets locked out (not logged out) and they have to put their windows credentials in to carry on working again.
Now... I can remote control users who are logging in via Remote Desktop on Windows XP/Vista etc.. but I can't with the Sun Ray Sessions. Does the SRWC 2.2 fully compatible with RDP 6.1 or is there any information anyone can give me to point me in the right direction of resolving this issue, like I said.. Win 2k3- Works like a dream....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remote control Tool for non-IT staff
Hi
We currently run ZENworks for Desktops v7 and have a requirement to
offer our financial systems team the ability to remote control users'
workstation without the need to use Console 1. All workstations are
currently Windows XP SP2 or SP3.
1. Are there any 3rd party/Cool tools that can be used to offer remote
control instead of using Console 1?
2. Do these tools require additional roles/rights?
Thank you.You can use our DSRAZOR for eDirectory/NDS and NetWare product for this.
See the applets called "ZEN Remote Control / Remote View by User" and "ZEN
Remote Control / Remote View by Workstation" in the HelpDesk Examples
section of the DSRAZOR Console. The applets can be customized to your
needs - such as limiting which containers and/or which workstations are
shown, and allowing only remote control or only remote view (instead of
both). After any necessary modifications are made (we can show you how or
make the changes for you), save the applet as an EXE to distribute to the
people who will use it. Having the applet as an EXE means they will not
need ConsoleOne and they will not need the full DSRAZOR product either.
The example applet in the DSRAZOR Console is based on the user's own
privileges. If you do not want to grant these users their own privileges
for remote control / remote view, the applet can be modified to use our
optional Zero Privilege Helpdesk NLM. You would need one NetWare server to
run the Zero Privilege Helpdesk NLM. When you load the NLM you will specify
the name of a group (such as financial systems group). Then only the
members of that group will be able to successfully use the applet, which
they will have as a stand-alone EXE.
An evaluation of DSRAZOR is available from:

Num Luck turned off during Remote Control
Hi,
I am using ZFD7 SPK1, when we remote control users, the Num Lock button
on the client workstations get disabled. Is there any way to prevent
that?
Wasnt this supposed to have been fixed with ZFD7 SPK1?
Thanks.

you'll see it's fixed in a post-SP1 patch

How to remotely control objects from transport request
Hi all,
I have to perform some task but can't find the way to get it done. What I have to do is:
a) get list of transport requests for given SAP system (i.e. its import queue)
b) let the user choose transport requests from the list
c) get list of all objects from chosen transport requests
d) control these objects in source and destination (from point a) ) SAP system.
Points a) to c) are easy and already done (using appropriate function modules and ALV objects). But I have no idea how to do things from point d). Control means comparison of dates (i.e. last modified) of objects in source and destination SAP system. The main goal of this approach is to avoid transportation of older objects from source system (DEV) and overwritting newer versions of the objects in destination system (PRD). I tried to use SAP versioning system to check versions remotely (the same way as it can be done from standard SAP transactions, e.g. SE38 for program source) with RFC and it worked fine (see function module SVRS_DISPLAY_REMOTE_DIR). But what about other objects not covered with versioning system? There are 932 objects that can be transported (at least TR_OBJECT_TABLE function module says so). Versions management system covers about 30 (program source, function module, object methods, table definitions, lock objects, and so on) of them. The problem is with the rest (900 transportable objects).
How can I check their dates remotely in source and destination SAP system. Any clues? Manual retrieval of the information about dates of 900 various SAP elements must be very difficult (if possible at all) because so many objects must be spreaded out in many tables. Is there any universal or standard way (report, RFC function module) to get required information?
Thanx in advance,
Jacek WitczakHi
There is no automatic way to delete the unnecessary objects from the transport reqeust.
1. Go to Tcode se09 and select the request which contains the unnecessary objects.
2. Select the unnecessary objects and delete manually.
Also if you want to delete the entire request then unlock the request in the tcode SE03 and then delete the request completely.
Also note that if the request is released then you will not be able to delete the objects in that request.
Hope it helps.

Remote control kicks you out when trying to change the logged in user by clicking on the red N
I'm running Zen 6.5 with the latest updates and the latest agents... I can
successfully remote control a workstation through ConsoleOne but I have 2
issues:
1. If I'm in the middle of a remote session and I right click on the red
N icon and change the user, it kicks me out and says "operation is
currently disabled for the logged in user".
2. Whenever I log in it changes the desktop background to blank (it's
actually a blue background) and it doesn't change it back after I close
the remote session. If I physically go that workstation and logout and
log back in, it still keeps that same blue background.Gilbert,
