Remote Control Viewer Permissions (Standalone)

For the moment, we are allowing our Field Services / Service Desk personnel to remote machines using a packaged standalone CmRcViewer.exe.  We've gotten the reg keys added that will enable auditing, however, we've noticed a minor issue:
All users have the ability to remote, regardless of what security is set in SCCM.   So much that only one team (of 8 people) has Remote Control permissions, yet everyone is still able to use it without SCCM stopping them.
I have tried adding the site system into the command line launch parameters (CmRcViewer.exe computer \\sitecode), no luck.
My test user (which only has local admin rights, no permissions at all in SCCM) is still able to remote any machine.
Am I missing something?

Yes. Local admins on the target boxes are always granted permissions to remote control the system.

So to be clear, when running in standalone, permissions within SCCM have no bearing on the use of the tool, correct? Only local admin rights? Multiple guides I read online about using CmRcViewer said the permissions had to be granted in SCCM (Remote Tools Operator)
- looks like they may have been wrong.

    Hi,
I recommend you check the log file CMRcViewer.log:
It records details about the activity of the remote control viewer.
Located in the %temp% folder on the computer running the remote control viewer.

  • SCCM 2012 Remote Control Viewer - Multiple Session

    Hello Guys,
We have faced one issue that there have only one session can be connected if we are using the SCCM 2012 remote control viewer. The problem is that we have two support team may require to remote the same desktop in the same time via the remote control viewer.
Do anyone know how we can activate more session for remote control viewer in SCCM 2012?
    Thanks,
    SCCM users

FYI – If you need to have 2 technicians remoted into the same device, we found a workaround, this works with SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3, and Windows 7 clients.
For tech1, using the ConfigMgr console, right-click the device, Start -> Remote Control
For tech2, using the ConfigMgr console, right-click the device, Start -> Remote Assistance

  • Disable/Hide Clipboard Sharing in remote control viewer

I need to give access to Help Desk Users so that they can take remote Control of the local machine but
they can not copy paste files. I want 'Enable Clipboard Sharing' disabled. Is this possible?
    1. I tried thru registry entry in every helpdesk machine to change clipboard value to 0/1, Where users
are allowed to modify to modify registry in HKLU entries  so unable to block.
    2. I am planning to control the clipboard settings in server level.
So other than SCCM administrator, no one allowed to modify.
    Pls suggest

    This should do the trick:

It's a user setting and not configurable through ConfigMgr. I would think you can use a GPO to set that key.

  • How do I Audit Remote Control?

A requirement of us implementing SCCM Remote Control, is that were able to report on what/when technicians are connecting to client systems. Upon investigating the canned reports in SCCM, I've found 3 reports that do some of this, specifically
    the 3 under "Status Messages - Audit";
    - All audit messages for a specific user
    - Remote Control - All computers remote controlled by a specific user
    - Remote Control - All remote control information
    1) Is there any more reports that may be useful? If so please specify.
    2) These reports also seem to be missing some information about connections that I made during testing. How does this auditing/report process work? and how would I troubleshoot whether the auditing was working correctly?
    3) Is it possible to audit/report on connections made from the standalone Remote Control Viewer tool?
    Thanks,
    Bill

I've used those those reports and haven't noticed missing information. I don't keep track of every session...
Perhaps were you using the remote control viewer utility directly instead of using the Admin console?
As for question 3, it is normal. If you launch the remote viewer executable directly (not from the admin console), those sessions are not auditable. There are many threads about this... here's one:

  • SCCM Remote Control - Set default to not "scale to fit"

We are using SCCM Remote Control Viewer (CmRcViewer.exe).
By default the view is set to "scale to fit" (with a tick) for every computer you connect to. If you change it to unticked it then reverts back for the next computer you connect to. Is there a way to set the default not to be scale to fit (unticked)?
I have looked through the registry but can't see anything obvious.
    Thanks!

Sounds like a good DCR though which you can file on Connect (connect.microsoft.com) -- anything you file there goes directly into the product team's bug database. That doesn't mean it will get fixed, just that someone will review it and the more justification
you can add, the more likely it will be considered to be addressed in the future.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 Remote Control Smart Card Support?

    Hi,
We're currently running SCCM 2012 SP1.  We have implemented mandatory smart card login on our Win 7 workstations using GPO.  Is it correct to say that SCCM's Remote Control Viewer does not support passing of smart card credentials through the session?
Our testing thus far would indicate that it does not.  This is problematic for our help desk that often uses the Remote Viewer to connect to end user machines and then elevate rights to perform admin level tasks.  So far the only way we have developed
to work around it is to run a script that temporarily changes the GPO to remove the smart card enforcement requirement.  Is there a better way to address this issue?
    Thanks
    Josh

Just to add to Wally's comments, there's actually no way this will ever happen without significant investments and development time (if it's possible at all) and it's really not anything that the ConfigMgr product group could implement as it has to with
authentication which is handled by the OS. Passing smart card credentials across the network is inherently flawed and poses a huge security risk. When this was discussed internally at Microsoft, the security teams there said they could easily hack any mechanism
that tried to do this and compromise the credentials.
The recommendation from Microsoft is to use local admin accounts on workstations for elevation. This goes for *any* type of remote control (including remote desktop btw) because the same security weakness exists regardless of the remote tool being used.

I could write a small wrapper that killed Java.exe when Desktop4.exe was

If you want me to do that, drop me at note at my email craig_d_wilson at

  • Remote Control and Remote View Problem

    Hi,
I work at a High School running Netware 6.0 SP5 and Zen works 4.01 ir7.
Remote Control and Remote View works great but I noticed one problem.
We have a logo of the school that is forced down on to the desktop when a
user logs in through group policies. This logo works perfect for the
desktop wall paper and loads every time a user logs in.
When I Remote Control or Remote View a computer the users desktop wall
paper turns from the logo being forced down through group policies to the
desktop to a blue desktop wall paper.
I would prefer the desktop wall paper staying the schools logo when I
Remote Control or Remote View because if the desktop wall paper changes to
the blue color I mentioned above when I Remote Control or Remote View the
users computer, they will know that someone is taking over their computer
which sometimes we dont want them knowing.
We have Windows 98SE computer running Novell Client 3.4 and we have some
computers running Windows XP Professional SP1 and Windows XP Professional
    SP2 both running Novell Client 4.91 SP2.
The Remote Control and Remote View problem of the desktop wall paper
changing on the users computer occurs on all operating systems mentioned
    above.
Is there a solution to my above problem? When Remote Controlling and
Remote Viewing someone's computer I don't want the desktop wall paper to
    change.
    Thanks!

  • View Only In Remote Control

    Hi to all
I want give view only permission to a help desk for only view on all computers but i want  use remote control with full control premission to all computers.
is it possible by policy or every way?

It's not possible via a ConfigMgr client policy, because the Remote Tools settings are device settings and not user settings. So you can only configure on a device level what access level the connecting user will have.

  • Remote control

I noticed my remote control was not working so replaced the battery... still doesn't work. Read the Apple support document for remotes, did everything mentioned relating to linking to my computer etc., still not working.
Got my digital camera to check that the infrared on the remote is working, and it does (can see the infrared flashing through the camera LCD at back) so must be something to do with the iMac itself.
According to the support document...therre should be a" "Disable remote control infrared receiver" checkbox in the Security pane of System Preferences" - however there is no such checkbox in my Security pane.
Interestingly, this problem seems to coincide with my installing an upgrade to iLife08 - could there be a link - has anyone got any other ideas please?

Dennis, thank you for your help.
I've tried to repair the disk permissions as suggested and pairing the remote with the iMac, but still not working. Also trying to open Front Row did not work.
So I went looking for Front Row on my machine and couldn't find it... so tried loading the Front Row update... and got this message - "This software update requires a Macintosh with a built-in infrared (IR) receiver running Mac OS X 10.4.5 or later."
I'm running 10.4.10 at the moment, so really don't know what's going on... this is looking more like something to do with me installing the new iLife?

Had been working fine for long time. Now out of warranty. Battery fine. Indicator on remote and on PC (white LED on front panel) both show IR is working. Mouse and keyboard still work fine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers for Microsoft eHome infrared transceiver but still can't get the machine to respond to remote control.
    Any thoughts?
    This question was solved.

Hello frrw. Sorry to waste your time. I changed the batteries and it works fine. It seems the red LED on the remote and the white LED on the PC that flashes when I press a button on the remote do not mean that the batteries are strong enough.
Meanwhile I have that recurring problem with blu-ray players. I will post a new question and maybe you can help.
    Many thanks.

  • I am a newer about LabVIEW.How can I realize a remote control in a Web brower.

"To transform your application into a remote laboratory, make sure the VI that you want to publish is loaded into LabVIEW memory. Next, select the Web Publishing Tool option from the Tools menu. This window is the main window for interactively creating and publishing your remote laboratory
The Web publishing tool will automatically load in the Document Title and VI Name text fields. As the sample image in Figure 6 illustrates, the Document Title, Text 1, and Text 2 are all text fields that you can use to customize the Web page created with the publishing tool.
The second step necessary to enable a remote laboratory is to select the Start Web Server button. When pressed, this button activates the built-in LabVIEW Web server, which will publish and control your front panel images from the Internet.
Once the Web server is activated, the actual HTML document needs to be created and saved so it can be accessed remotely. Clicking on Save to Disk places an HTML file called Document Title.htm into the LabVIEW file folder called WWW by default. Saving your Remote Panels HTML documents into this folder will ensure that the LabVIEW Web server can find them. Either keep the default name, or assign a new name and save the file. Once saved, a new panel entitled Document URL pops up with a message box containing the URL address of your enabled LabVIEW application.
Click on OK in the Document URL window and then click on Done in the Web Publishing Tool window. Your lab is now ready for remote visitors
    Required Software
To operate a LabVIEW program using remote panels, it is necessary to have the free LabVIEW run-time engine installed on the client computer. When a remote viewer logs onto the lab with the appropriate URL address, the LabVIEW front panel will appear in the browser, or reroute the user to install the run-time engine from the National Instruments Web site.
    Application Control
Once connected to the remote laboratory, the client connection will automatically be in a monitor state. If another client is controlling the remote laboratory, the user will be able to monitor the actions of the controlling client. To request control of the program, right click on the front panel and select Request Control. Once selected, one of two possible messages will appear. Either the user will be granted control (Control Granted), or the user will see a message indicating that control is currently granted to another user (Waiting for control: Either the server is locked or another client has control). If another client has control, the controlling client will be notified that control time has now become limited. Once the timeout occurs or the controlling client has released control, application control is automatically switched to the requesting client (Control Granted). Once the user has been granted control, all icons and controls will become active and running the LabVIEW application is exactly like running the application from the local environment.
    Releasing Control
When the remote viewer either moves on to a different URL address or relinquishes control by right clicking and selecting (Release Control), or when the remote laboratory times out, the remote laboratory is available to the next visitor."
The above is what I read from a text of ni.com,
but I can not obtain the result.
    Thanks a lot!
    ^^

    Hi
I don't see which LV version you are using. It's important to know, that you need the FDS or PDS package of LV 6.1 to work with remote control. This feature is not supported in the LV base package of LV 6.1.
If you have LV 6.1 FDS or PDS, which of the described steps are not working?
