Remote controll wipes out user's desktop wallpaper

I have a issue that I hope someone can help with. I have a user that has ZCM client 10.2 installed and whenever I remote her desktop, her wallpaper is removed, and is NOT restored after releasing the remote session. Has anyone experienced this problem?

  • Desktop wallpaper overlapping Spaces in Mission Control

This is a weird one. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I can't access Spaces in Mission Control properly because I have desktop wallpaper from a previous space overlapping most of the spaces at the top of Mission Control, i.e. desktop wallpaper from Space 1 carrying over onto Space 2 and blocking out the spaces at the top two-thirds of Mission Control (see image).
This currently occurs with my MBP hooked up to my Thunderbolt Display. (Haven't confirmed this behavior on the MBP alone yet.)

  • Remote Control *OF* an iPad???

    Hi,
The subject may be a little confusing -- I'm not looking for an app that can remote control a Mac or Windows desktop, nor one that can control a media center.
I have an iPad and I just bought one for my mother (so glad I talked her out of buying a Windows netbook). Although the learning curve is very easy to use the iPad, I still want to help her when she needs it.
Is there an app that can remotely connect to another iPad? If not, what about a Windows utility that can do it? I suppose if there is a VNC app for the iPad then I can use any freeware VNC client in Windows, like RealVNC or UltraVNC.
I'll continue to do my own search but if anyone can assist, that would be great as well.
    Thanks,
    Roland Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
The iPad dose about 80% of what a computer can do. I think this falls into the 20% the ipad currently can not do. But you could always send a suggestion to Apple. http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
I work around might to have her send screen shots; and email them. or if you have a desktop or portable computer you could have her video chat with you, and have her set the camera to point a the ipad.

  • Remote Control and RDP sessions

Is anyone else experiencing the following using ZEN 11 SP1 with Windows 7 SP1...
A user is accessing their machine via RDP and needs assistance so we attempt to use zenworks remote control to connect to their desktop, but all we see is the ctrl-alt-del screen.
This functionality worked fine for use in our XP/Zen 10.2.1 environment. From the reseach that I've done so far it seems that it could be related to the added security in windows 7 where the services run in session0 and the the user desktop runs in session1 whereas with XP, everything runs in session0
Wondering if I'm missing a setting. I opened an SR, but no resolution yet. They told to use the /console switch (which doesn't even apply to window 7 - its now /admin) but that did not work.
    Any insight is appreciated...

    Hi Andy,
Yes, I have seen this too and also concluded the difference in session handling is causing this. Don't have a workaround for you so far unfortunately.

  • Grant remote control privileges to multiple workstations?

We are trying to allow two of our administrative users rights to remote control about 40 workstations out of the 7000 we have in our district. Since we place workstation objects in the containers with their school, and the 40 workstations are spread one to each school, we don't want to grant remote control rights for the entire container.
I tried creating a workstation group, adding the 40 machines to the group, and then granting the trustee rights for remote control to the users, but consoleone still says they don't have enough permissions. I also tried creating a new OU and making aliases of the workstation objects, but then consoleone says that the workstation object is obsolete or invalid.
We are trying to avoid having to grant the rights on each workstation individually...and without moving the workstation objects from their current containers. Any thoughts?

I am having the same issue and I don't believe it is related to
wallpaper. When I take remote control of a users PC I don't get that text
on the initial grey screen that says displaying initial screen please
wait. The remote session then just sits there on the grey screen until I
disconnect. The issue isn't always resolved by reconnecting, but
    sometimes is. Any ideas?

  • Unable to allow remote control and deny transfer files in RM

Hi, we're running ZCM 11 SP1 and I have a question about assiging rights to non-Helpdesk users for remote control only for user application support. It looks like if I deny transfer files that the button for remote control automatically changes from allow to deny. I couldn't find anything in the forums, KB, or docs to see if this is working as intended or a bug of some sort? If intended, do you know why remote control and transfer files go together, just curious? In ConsoleOne versions of remote management we had always limited non-Helpdesk remote operators and were hoping to do exactly the same with ZCM11. Thanks.

Was there ever a workaround for this? I'm seeing the same behavior in 11.2.3 and we have a need to block file transfer but allow remote management.

  • 1487 remote control error after upgrade to SP1

We started testing a new server running NW 6.5 SP3 with Zenworks 6.5. After importing a few test workstations that were created using an image with zen 4.0.1 agents and then upgrading the agents to 6.5 agents we were getting a 1487 error message. Discovered that there was a SP1 for Zenworks and installed the service pack. upgraded the agent on the test workstations to the new version of agent 6.5.1.0. we were still getting the 1487 error. Tried deleting the workstation from console one and rebooted the test machine. it reimported but we still are getting a 1487 error trying to do remote control. if I initiate a request session it works just fine or if I do a remote control from the user object. Any help would be appreciated
    Thank you,

  • HP Remote Control. Who gave you permition to put it on my computer with the last unasked for update

Yesturday my computer informs me that it will restart in four minutes to update and when it restared my user account shows HP remote control as a user. Like hell! I paid for it, it;s my computer the only person who has a right to control it is me! And if I want an update I'll ask for it.

    Well said.

  • How do I remote control a user in remote desktop services in Windows Server 2012?

    Hello,
we currently operate in a 2008 R2 environment with the majority of clients connecting to our terminal servers.  We use the remote control feature in terminal services manager to connect to a users session when a user phones our helpdesk with
    a question / issue.
Just today I've installed 2012 server on a hyper-v virtual machine to have a play with it.  I've installed the Remote Desktop Services and noticed this remote control feature is gone.  I can still log off or send a message to a user, but I can
no longer remote control their session.
I've seen one or two other posts stating this feature has been removed completely.
    So, a couple of questions:
    1. How on earth do I "shadow" or connect to a users session now?
    2. If I have to go third party to get this functionality back, what's the best software on the market for this and does it support remote connecting of users who have their RDP session span multiple monitors? (2008 R2 doesn't)
    3. Will Microsoft ever bring this feature back? as at this stage I doubt we would move to 2012.  This is the one feature that is crucial to the day-to-day running of our helpdesk.
    Cheers.

A large percentage of our IT support business is through remote management. Most of our large enterprise customers are Terminal Server environment (now called Remote Desktop - why does Microsoft have to change EVERYTHING - how would they feel if I changed
the colour of the sky from blue to red just because I could?).
Last week, after much expense to the customer (and realising that there WOULD be some cosmetic headaches to contend with Server Management) we installed a new "Remote Desktop Server" for them and shifting them from 2003 - a big leap so we discovered.
During deployment it came as a HORRIFIC surprise that we could not remote control user's sessions!
Yes, we ARE to blame for not fully realising the cock-up Microsoft has made for us. We should have fully researched every detail of what changes they made and what they have robbed us of.
Firstly, the removal of the ability to fully manage user's sessions came as a HUGE blow!
The remaining multiple issues that followed (including the hugely cumbersome and SLOW way of accessing user's sessions and the false information that the console was reporting users logged in when they had already logged out) suddenly resulted in us decommissioning
the new 2012 installation in favour of a 2008 R2 installation.
Some may ask; Why not use "Third Party" apps to counteract the issue? Firstly; why spend MORE and why use a third party app that "is as" cumbersome to use just because of a freaking feature that Microsoft deemed a "security risk" - for G.D sake!
We have now been directed by management to convince customers that a move to 2012 is NOT recommended - good choice boss, I love you!
The question is; will Microsoft re-implement this feature and fix Server Management performance/accessibility in a future release before 2008 R2 is no longer available? Probably not - it looks like their stubbornness to forge ahead with their craze mind-set
of transforming their products into something that is now annoying millions (including their bloody push towards everything-cloud which NONE of our customers want anything to do with).
Microsoft! Get us back on to your side and take a step back, take a deep breath and listen to consumers!

  • Remote control kicks you out when trying to change the logged in user by clicking on the red N

I'm running Zen 6.5 with the latest updates and the latest agents... I can
successfully remote control a workstation through ConsoleOne but I have 2
    issues:
    1. If I'm in the middle of a remote session and I right click on the red
N icon and change the user, it kicks me out and says "operation is
currently disabled for the logged in user".
    2. Whenever I log in it changes the desktop background to blank (it's
actually a blue background) and it doesn't change it back after I close
the remote session. If I physically go that workstation and logout and
log back in, it still keeps that same blue background.

  • Cannot "Remote Control" Users in a RDP (TS) server.

So, I have a few Terminal servers (now called Remote Desktop Servers) setup and running, various Operating systems, but all 2008r2 and above.
All of them are having an issue that has cropped up over the last few months. Either in Task manger, or in the Remote Desktop Manger, I cannot right click and select "Remote Control" to see what a user sees.
As you can see the, connect and Remote control are Grayed out. Although on some of the servers, I can connect, that disconnects the user from the system.
I cannot find a setting that allows me to unlock this ability.
I am an admin, and I can provide any information that you need.
    Thanks!
Rule your day, you never know when it might be your last.

I am remoted into the server, and running the manager from the remote session.
I see the same behaviour from the console session of the server.

  • SCCM Application to change user desktop wallpaper

    Hi,
Recently, I installed an application thru SCCM which changes the user desktop wallpaper to a custom JPEG file. I tested it on few machines and when I log in to the machines, I could see the application in Software Center and after it gets installed, the
registry value at "HKCU:\Control Panel\Desktop\Wallpaper" also got updated with the JPEG file as well. But when a different user logs into the same machine, he can see the application being under installed software in Software Center and also
the registry value being updated as well, but the wallpaper isn't getting changed on his desktop, even after he logoff/logon and do a machine restart. I verified that there are no GPO that have any restrictions on these machines/users. The application has
the below vbscript code and it's set to "Install for User" setting.
    Thanks.
    Program code:
    Const HKEY_CURRENT_USER = &H80000001
    strComputer = "."
    Dim WshShell
    Dim Fso
    Dim Directory
    Dim Wallpaper
    Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set objReg = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\default:StdRegProv")
    Directory = WshShell.CurrentDirectory
    Wallpaper = fso.BuildPath(Directory, "abc.jpg")
    strKeyPath = "Control Panel\Desktop"
    ValueName = "Wallpaper"
    objReg.SetStringValue HKEY_CURRENT_USER, strKeyPath, ValueName, Wallpaper
    NM

I didn't say it wasn't good to install per-user, just that you are counting on the wallpaper reference to ccmcache which is what's bad. Thus, you should copy that to a common location as pointed out. No, it doesn't automatically get applied if copied to
Windows\Web\Wallpaper, but it will be available for all.
Typically, if you want to force the wallpaper, you would use a group policy. There's no other direct way to apply a user based setting to every existing user on a system though. It is possible, just not straight-forward.
