Remote Desktop 3.5.1 and Disk Permissions

I know these are probably safe to ignore, but after installing Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.1 on Mac OS 10.6.8, it generates a lot of repair permission lines that upon restart, revert.  I have read Apple's list of safely ignored messages, but I am guessing that will get updated since this update just came out today.  Have installed on multiple Macs and see the same thing.. Just surprised how one update can change so many on a "normal" basis.

This was mine...

  • Remote Desktop Access with Mac and Asus Transformer Prime

I have an E2000 router with the most current firmware. I have a Sony VAio laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit,a Macbook with 10.6.8, and a new Asus Transformer Prime with ICS.My work desktop is a Dell Optiplex 380 with Windows 7 Pro 32bit. I frequently work from home and have no issues remoting into to my work PC from by Sony laptop via VPN and RDP.However I have never been able to connect successfully to my work PC with my Macbook(using Remote Desktop Connection 2.1 for Mac OS) or Asus tablet(using WYSE Pocket Cloud RDP app for Android). I can however connect to the VPN itself on the Macbook and tablet without issue same as my Windows laptop. The other interesting part is I can connect via RDP when I am connected to a Mi-Fi 3g hotspot. So it is definitely something in the my Linksys E2000 blocking the connection for some reason. I have even set Port forwarding of 3389 with the ip's of both the Macbook and Asus tablet.I have also tried connecting via ethernet to the router with the same outcome. I cannot ping my work pc from either device as well.In addition the firewall on my work PC is completely disabled and all services related to Remote desktop access are enabled and running.Does anyone have any ideas?

For my tablet its own ip assigned by the router. Same with the macbook.the Pocketcloud RDP app also uses 3389.I have port 3389 set for both internal and external port and protocol "both" under the Single Port Forwarding tab in the router config.

  • Time machine full backup after disk and disk permissions repair

my macbook would not boot so i inserted the snow leopard DVD and did a disk repair and disk permissions repair, after that it booted perfectly but when it went to do a backup it did a full backup of 149GB , i am unsure why it has done this and would like to know how to stop it as i am trying to save space on my time capsule.
    thank you in advance

I'm afraid you don't have much choice. You do have lot of space available, though.
    Node requires deep traversal:/ reason:must scan subdirs|new event db|
No pre-backup thinning needed: 165.92 GB requested (including padding), 507.60 GB available
The "deep traversal" means TM compared everything on your system to the backups, and estimates that about 138 GB is new/changed (it adds 20% for workspace on the TM disk - the "padding" in the message).
If there's about 138 GB on your system, see #D3 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), for some common reasons for TM to do a new full backup.
If there's more, #D4 there has some common reasons for large backups.
If all you did was repair disk and permissions, neither should have resulted.
the reason i did a permission repair and disk repair while running from the install disk was because my laptop would not boot from the internal disk so i did both just to be safe.
That's fine; just do the Permissions Repair again, while running normally.

  • Remote Desktop stopped mid-session and can't reconnect

My remote desktop session suddenly ended, and I cannot reconnect. I restarted the virtual machine and the management portal says that it is running. The RDP endpoint is still configured.
I can ping the machine, but the port is not open. Tried deleting the RDP endpoint and adding it back, and it still is not open.

45m later the problem went away. There was some kind of technical outage on the server status page that may have been affecting it.

  • Remote desktop is it secure and encrypted for windows 7 and windows 2008 servers

Remote desktop is it secure and encrypted? any supporting documenting showing if it is secure and encrypted .

    Hi,
Yes, RDP is secure and encrypted. RDP uses RSA Security's RC4 cipher, a stream cipher designed to efficiently encrypt small amounts of data. RC4 is designed for secure communications over
networks. Administrators can choose to encrypt data by using a 56- or 128-bit key.

  • Beachballs, worldbooks, and disk permissions

    hi everyone.
like many, i have a problem... well, a few actually...
    1. start ups have been taking forever, and the computer has just been painfully slow overall. 2. when i finally do start up, i've been getting beachballs right away (before i can even get into any programs).
(as per some forums i've seen) to counteract this, I have:
re-updated the 10.4.11 combo; tried to free up some space on my HD (i was down to 30gigs, and now i'm back up to 50), including getting rid of some apps i don't need; AND i have tried to repair my disk permissions.
There has been some improvement once i'm in my system (though startup is still slow), however, these "solutions" have lead to two new problems...
    1. Worldbook will not delete. i can't get rid of it. In fact, when i even try, i get beachballs of doom and my system freezes. To counteract this, i've even downloaded the tiger cache cleaner, and tried to do a force delete of it, but when i try doing that it even crashes the cache cleaner!!
    2. disk permissions won't finish. it gets near the end and then it freezes up too. the program just stops responding. it does the same thing with verification too. And even when i try repairing the permissions from my new tiger cache cleaner toy, it ends up crashing that as well.
beachballs, worldbook, and disk permissions (not to mention the slow start up).
    what the ****?

    the.internet.***** wrote:
    yes,
i was able to check my volume again in disk utility. it said 'not supported'. That's pretty new as far as i can tell.
Are you sure you had selected the disk and not the volume? i.e. something like "Toshiba CDEKHHBGN78WQ" rather than "Macintosh HD" or whatever.
This is your internal HD, correct?
The S.M.A.R.T. status should either be "verified" or say something about failing, as far as I know. It will say "not supported" about external FW drives, for example, as Disk Utility cannot gather the relevant information about those. It would also say this about older drives or any drive which doesn't support S.M.A.R.T.
If you are sure it said "verified" before, I would have to assume that the drive has failed. You shouldn't believe me, though, as this is just a suspicion - I don't know. I'm thinking that maybe if a drive is damaged badly enough, perhaps Disk Utility cannot even recognise the drive as supporting S.M.A.R.T. Does anybody know if that's possible?
even with this 'not supported' SMART status, do you think i could boot from disk warrior to repair my volume? i tried repairing again with disk utility, and it said the same thing about the keys, which Tom found was fixable with DW. but as far as i can tell i'm now into red alert. is it fair to say that right now (if i can afford it) my course of action would be to get DW, try that out, and if it doesn't fix things, then to take it into a shop, see if they can get my info off, and then wipe my harddrive?
If the drive has failed, DW won't help. It can't repair hardware. If the drive is still good, it is worth trying DW if you want to recover data from the disk. If your stuff is backed up, you could either try DW or wipe the disk and start over.
You might try running the hardware tests provided by Apple. This should be on the install DVD if your machine came with Tiger originally. Otherwise, you might have received a separate CD for this. You boot from the disk and run the tests. It won't find all hardware problems but it will check for some of the major ones. There should be instructions on the disk which say how to start up to run the hardware tests.

  • HT201068 I updated Remote Desktop Admin 3.8 and now my Time Capsule wireless connection is having.

I recently updated to Remote Desktop Admin 3.8 and since then, I have had issues with the wireless connection from my Time Capsule.
    1) I reset modem and had no change. 2) I then plugged the ethernet directly into my Mac and the connection was great so it's not the service or modem.
    3) I hard reset the TC and when it came back, the speed was good but went back down after a few minutes. 4) Plugged ethernet directly into Mac and again, the speed was great so it is definitely the TC.
Would love some help resolving this. Hoping I don't have to get a new wireless router. Maybe the TC is too old? I purchased it in 2009 or 2010/ Current version 7.6.4

    Hey evebutterflies,
I see that you are having some connection issues with your Time Capsule. Are these issues only present when using Remote Desktop Admin 3.8? If so, you may need to review the information in the following article and see if this sheds some light on the issue:

Most home routers running 24/7 are good for about 3years.. your TC has now managed to survive 6 years.. it is well and truly time for a replacement. Simple fact is, it should be dead by now.. so you are living on borrowed time whatever happens.
Why RDA would slow the wireless I am not sure..
Are you running Yosemite.. ?? I tend to point the finger at the OS rather than an application.. mind you if the amount of data going back and forth has increased.. what appears to be slower wireless might actually be something else.
Apple has reasonable wireless analyser built into the OS since mountain lion.. it is well worth using.
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/07/31/wi-fi-scanner-mac-os-x-mountain-lion/
I recommend doing a few things like short names, no spaces pure alphanumeric for everything in networks. Passwords also must comply. Apple made changes to network protocols since Mavericks but did not fix the names being recommended in the airport utility.. and still haven't which break their own rules.
And fix names for bands differently so you can force the connection.. plus setting channels.
However in a unit of that age.. it will have pretty weak 5ghz and that is what is important for high speed wireless.. Apple have hindered 2.4ghz since forever.

  • Problem with Remote Desktop on iPad 2 and windows 8.1 pro

I downloaded the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from the App Store on my iPad 2. I typed in the IP address for my windows 8.1 pro computer on my iPad 2 in school to try connecting to my windows 8.1 pro computer at home. I'm having

Try ( alt + cmd + esc ).  Gives you a menu of running applications, and a chance to "Force Quit".

  • Remote desktop 8.0.14 (and prior) full screen RDweb session, screen pushed down by Mac Menu bar, mouse pointer on wrong position

    Hi
On Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, there is a clear bug on the Microsoft Remote desktop app when
    a) remoting into a Windows server that is set to display full screen
    b) when you are logging in using a RDweb server aka RDS 2012.
After logging in to the remote server, the full screen representation of the server desktop has the following issues:
    - The Mac Launchpad is still visible over the Windows desktop, making that part of the Windows desktop impossible to reach.
    - The published screen is pushed down about 15 pixels. It is pushed down by the Mac's menu that also remains visible.
When I directly remote into the same server using traditional direct RDP (Not via the RDweb, gateway setup) the screen positions correctly.
I guess: Somehow the Remote desktop app  (8.0.14) does not seem to get the message from the server that this is a full screen session? Is there some information that the connection Broker or Gateway is not passing allong to
    the client?
I have replicated this many times. It is the same whether I connect to a 2012 server or to a 2008 server.

    Hi,
For a try you can use URI scheme for the specified desktop screen or full screen and check the result. You can refer the following article for information.
Remote Desktop Client URI Scheme Support
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn690096.aspx
Apart if you have RD Gateway setup then you can try the option for RD Gateway to uncheck “Bypass RD Gateway for Local address” and verify result.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Apple Remote Desktop - Users constantly appear and disappear in All Computers List

I have a problem and I am thinking it is probably some kind of broadcast error on my network, but why not question Apple Remote Desktop in the process? Computers seem to flicker from available to unavailable. I think they are actually on. If I send a task out while it shows availbe it does complete even though it flickers on and off throughout the package install. However it will not let me send out installs when it say unavailable (as expected). If I am lucky I can catch the systems when they show available and the installs work. I have deleted preferences and re-installed ARD. I am using 3.7
Personally I think it is my switches and Bonjour. Does anyone else have this issue and a work around?

    Hey Madoser,
I had the same problem. I administrate around 30 macs, which I undrestand isn't much.....I was having issues with ard after updating to mavericks. I decided to do a complete erase and reinstall on my machine. This was't because of ard, mind you. I was having all kinds of problems. Nothing unexpected as far as I'm concerned but after doing things, my ard problems went away. It's only been a day, but everything is working like a dream.

  • Apple Remote Desktop, 2010 Mac Pro, and six displays

Under 10.8, we were able to operate a 2010 Mac Pro (MacPro5,1) with 2 x HD5770 video cards and 6 x LED Cinema Displays (the mini DisplayPort models, two of them via IUSB-powered Atlona DVI Dual-Link-to-mDP adapters, via Apple Remote Desktop.
Under 10.9 (currently 10.9.2), all the displays still work, but ARD is having significant heartburn: if it is able to connect with the ARD agent on the display syste, the display arrangement is incorrect, and no amount of swapping mDP cables, moving the displays around in the Displays System Preference pane, and/or rebooting appears to help. Oh, and the most recent end state, when I finally managed to get the menu bar on one of the displays on the top (physical) row (we have them arranged 2 x 3, in order to display 4096 x 4096 pixel movies of spacecraft data), flummoxed ARD completely --- it simply refused to connect with the display machine at all. (I can ssh into the display system and use a cabled keyboard and mouse as well, but that's not a long-term solution: we have to be able to operate remotely, as we did under 10.8.) Oddly, ARD works OK, if not perfectly every time, with the target system when it's only connected to four or fewer displays (regardless of whether they're connected to mDP ports or via the Atlona devices). The host ARD system is another MacPro5,1 with 24 Gbyte of RAM; the target has 96 Gbyte.
Reading the release notes for ARD 3.7.2, it sounded as though all our issues would be addressed, but alas, it is not so: we're still stuck with ARD trying to but unable to open a "Control" connection to the display system.
Does anyone have any experience, positive or negative, with a similar setup under 10.9 and ARD 3.7.2?
Is there any way to clear all the settings in ARD? I can't find any .plist files with client system-by-system info in them, and I suspect they are (appropriately) encrypted because they can contain passwords, or at least store the hashed passwords in encrypted fields.
Thanks in advance for any clues for the clueless.

I expect your Hardware is essentially unchanged since the 2010 model, and should run the custom 10.6.4 they provided, or 10.6.5.
The "Full Retail" 10.6.3 is only 10D575, so it will not suffice.
