Remote Desktop 3 and OS 10.6.8...

Hi, does anybody know if I could do remote assistance with Mac and Windows computers using Apple's Remote Desktop 3 on a OS 10.6.8 computer?  Please reply...if not, what program is available that will work?  Please reply.  Thank you.
David

Try this:
• Insert your ARD CD
• Open in Finder
• Right click on the Remote Desktop.mpkg and show contents
• Navigate to contents/installers
• Drag the RemoteDesktopAdmin.pkg file onto the workstation and install
• Run Software Update
• Upgrade to the latest version of the admin application
You may need to completely uninstall ARD and then reinstall it before this procedure will work. Follow these instructions for the uninstall:

  • Remote Desktop Gateway and WebAccess Deployment - Multiple Logon Prompts

I'm having a few issues with some multiple logon prompts using "Connect to a remote PC" via RD Web Access.
I am able to log onto the RDWeb without a problem.
Essentially once I make a connection to my end-device I first receive a logon prompt, I'm authenticated, then I'm asked again for another logon prompt. Any ideas how to resolve this?
    My layout is simple:
1 VM in the DMZ that has the Remote Desktop Gateway and Remote Desktop Web Access roles installed. No connection broker, or session host.
With my deployment I have a wildcard certificate bound to the Remote Desktop Gateway and it is bound properly in IIS. Remote Desktop functionality through the RDGateway works just fine. However, the only nuisance is that I get prompted multiple times for
credentials when accessing the end-device regardless if my connection is from a domain-joined machine or a non-domain joined machine.
I've tried using Web Single Sign On via http://anandthearchitect.com/2014/01/20/rds-2012-r2single-sign-on-using-windows-authentication-for-rdweb-page/ and it still does not work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
How many prompts are you seeing?  Expected behavior for Connect to a remote PC would be this:
    1. Log on to RDWeb
    2. Select Connect to a remote PC tab
    3. Enter server name in Connect to box, click Connect
    4. Unknown publisher warning, click Connect
    5. Credentials prompt, it should say These credentials will be used to connect to the following computers: 1. rdgw.domain.com (RD Gateway server) 2. remote.domain.com (remote computer)
    6. After entering credentials and clicking OK it should log you in to the remote computer.  This assumes that the destination is authenticated properly (usually via certificate) and the credentials are valid for both the RDG and the remote
computer.  Normally in a domain environment the same credentials (domain\username) would be valid for the RDG and the remote server.

  • IOS Remote Desktop app and computers connected to SBS 2008--can't get it to work

I can connect directly to the server without a remote resource in the IOS app.
But I'd like to be able to connect to computers in the office like we can through RWW. RWW works fine, but not from my phone. (Yes I can connect to the server and take over computers from the phone but I don't want other people in the office to log
    into the server first!).
I can never get the remote resources section in the app to connect. I usually get "Unable to locate any remote resources for the URL". error in the resources section. I've tried a simple "https://remote.domain.com", "https://remote.domain.com:987",
    etc.
We have a self-signed certificate. I can't think of anything in the server setup that is anything other than normal.
I can do direct connect using "Remote Desktop Connection" in windows 7. In the remote desktop server settings I just put remote.domain.com and "Ask for password (NTLM)" for the login method. Then on the general tab I have just the
simple computer name and the domain\username. That's all I had to setup to get that to work.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Michael,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Have you setup RD Gateway server in your environment? Are you trying to access the RWW through it?
On server side you can choose “Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses” under RemoteApp manager and check the result.
For more information, you can check below links for detail.

  • Remote Desktop Connection and printing issues

    Hi,
I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and also connected to Windows Server 2008 R2 to run applications in Windows Server. However, I noted there is problem with the printer issues. Sometimes, when I tried to print some documents using applications
in Windows Server with my local printer in my room connected to desktop, it won't work.
Moreover, I need to go to Windows Server, Component Service to restart printer spooler so it will work again. This is a pain.
I also noticed there is about 30 seconds wait to process any document to print.
Unlike if I print documents directly from my local desktop computer running Windows 7 and connected to local printer, it only takes seconds to print.
My desktop is connected to Windows Server 2008 via local area network. I should not expect such a significant delay in printing.
I also wonder why printer spooler needs to be restarted when printer is not working.
Can anyone advise me about this? Can Microsoft looks into this problem and release updates to fix the bug to improve the system?
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Clement

    Hi,
Please check if you turn on this settings:
You need to set this up just before you connect. The setting will be saved so that you won't need to change it the next time you connect.
    1. Open Remote Desktop Connection by clicking the Start button, clicking
All Programs, clicking Accessories, and then clicking
    Remote Desktop Connection.
2.Click Options, and then click the Local Resources
    tab.
3.Under Local devices and resources, select the Printers check box.
4.Click Connect to start the session.
Make sure that you select your printer in the Print dialog box each time you print.

I use a lot of university software via Remote Desktop connection, it worked very well on my Acer laptop. it's really important that that this staff works as good on my new computer. • Remote Desktop - Pinch and Zoom compatibility with Microsoft Access

Hi guys, not sure which forum to place this into but here we go.
We use Windows 8.1 tablets and RDP to a 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Server, we can pinch and zoom with Office 2007 Excel, Word without issues.
I would like to know if there is a list of programs that's compatible with pinch and zoom because it looks to me like Microsoft Access (2007 version) isn't compatible with pinch and zoom but I need proof for my IT manager.
Can you tell me if I should be able to pinch and zoom a database windows within MS Access?

    Hi,
As per my research there is no such description whether which program compatible with pinch and zoom but still as this seems more relate to tablet question. You can ask your comment over there for more perfect answering.

  • Prohibit full remote desktop access and allow remoteapp

    Hi all,
How to allow remoteapp only while prohibiting full remote desktop access except for some users?
    Thanks

I am Microsoft Tech with Platforms Core  , I came across this thread rather recently. So as a Christmas surprise it can be achieved rather simply. Please follow following steps...
    1. Please navigate to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-TCP
    2. Change the value of port to anything from 3389.
    3. Also change it in remote app manager in RD Session Host server RDP Port to the port you have changed to in registry.
4.Please note it has to be done on all session hosts, redirectors  and Connection brokers.
    5. Now your remote app continues to work , however RDP done sans the exact port number will not work.
Please feel free to contact me on this.
Simple sweet and logical resolution. Cheers..Happy holidays :-)

  • Apple remote desktop name and organization

    Hi
I just downloaded apple remote desktop from my developer account but when i run it and put the serial number
it also asks for name and organization which doesnt exists in the file that have the serial number so from where
    i can get those ?

The latest version of ARD is available from the App Store, and does not require a serial number. You can also buy the serial numbered version, with a serial number, at the online store (http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=apple+remote+desktop).

    Hi Andrea,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
We can configure the temporary folders on RDSH server by GPO setting. We can configure the option “Do not delete temp folder upon exit" and the "Do not use temporary folders per session” on below mention
    path.

  • I am having trouble installing and using remote desktop client and admin on the same imac.  I need help?

Can you give me a step by step on getting the client and the admin part of remote desktop to work?  I am new to this and I need for remote desktop to work to install the Faronics Deepfreeze enterprise console on the new imac in office.  The OSx version is 10.8.3  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Also, when I go to install the admin, it says that the remote desktop client is not updated and I cant get mac app store to show any updates.  May be doing something wrong.

This is what I usualy do to setup ARDclient on a client computer.
    on the client computer
go to menu bar (white bar at top of the screen)
    click on the apple menu
    chose system preferences
    click show all button
    click Users & Groups
    click the lock to unlock
click + to create a new account
    chose new account: type "administrator"
name the user some thing applicable like "ARDuser"
    set a secure password
    click create account
    click show all button
    click sharing
set the computer name to some thing descritpive that identifies the computer
    check remote login
    click on remote login
set allow access for: "only these users"
    click the +
chose the ARDuser from the list
    click select
    check remote management
    click on remote management
set allow access to "only these users"
    click the +
select the ARDuser from the list
    click select
check: observe, control, genereate reports, open & quite applications, delete and replace items, start text chat or send messages, restart & shutdown, copy items
    click ok
click the lock to lock system preferences
    click show all
    quite system preferences
At this point you should be able to connect to the client using Apple Remote Desktop using the ARDuser setup above. Make sure the client and the ARD computer are on the same network the same way. IE both on ethernet or both on wifi. On the same internet conenction, if your were trying to conenct to a client over the internet there is more involved.
    on the ard computer:
    open apple remote desktop
from the left column select discover
make sure the list is set to bonjour
the client computer should show up on the list, with the name set above
select the client from the list
    click control
you will be prompted for the user/pass to log into the computer. that's the ARDuser setup in the steps above.

  • [Solved] remote desktop session and 3d

Very sorry if this was discussed previously or if this questions have been asked, but I'm struggling a bit to figure thisout. And I've googled, experimented for days and still couldn't get it right.
So my requirement is very simple. I want to develop QML/QT5 applications over a remote desktop session in Linux. QML makes use of hardware 3d acceleration.
I first had a gnome 3.8 I tried set up so that I could work with it remotely. But simple things like opening the "Activities" over VNC would crash Gnome. I tried KDE to no avail and now I'm on xfce, which doesn't use any of the 3D accelerated eye candy so VNC works fine.
However any opengl application I try to run (like QML examples) doesn't work.
I've read about tigervnc and virtualgl, and it didn't work too well. On top of that I would have a hard time having to run the application manually and attach the debugger later to it, it would be to bureaucratic.
Apparently nomachines are eventually gonna come up with nx 4 which will have support to run on top of Gnome 3.8 for example, so I'm hopeful it'll just work with any other "opengl application".
I also tried splashtop, with is ok however i'm stuck with 1024x768 resolutions and this annoying blue flickering of the screen.
Is there any remote desktop alternative out there which enables me to successfully run simple opengl applications? I'm not talking games or anything, but simple applications with shades, glows, etc?

kokoko3k wrote:If you don't need access to the local display, i'd try with turbovnc + virtualgl
So yeah, your post made me try to compose a response which then I identified I had totally misunderstood the concept of virtualgl. Now I do understand it somewhat and I had been able to set everything up properly. Tada! it works.
I'm using tigervnc + virtualgl, and I can start qtcreator with vglrun, then every process that qtcreator spawns will have 3d support through my vnc connection, which is exactly what I needed.
I did notice that when I had slim setup, virtualgl didn't work. Only when I switched to gdm it did work.
I wonder if I should start writing a wiki page about virtualgl, however my writing abilities suck and I'm not sure if it would create more confusion than help others...

  • Remote desktop client and colour management

After googling I found nothing relevant. Anybody has any information about using ps cs5 in win7 using ms rdp client for mac? What about monitor profiles on both ends to get colours right? Having linux, win7 and mac computers, but because space on my desktop is limited, I use different rdp clients to connect to these computers rather than switch cables. 100Mbit lan works fast enough to edit an image in ps cs5 on win7 on a quad core amd  from mac. But what to set for remote win7 as monitor profile and in mac of course use mac-specific profile created by basICColor. Does it really matter what profile win7 has? Don't know about rdp enough, but it might well be that the remote sends only raw data.
    thanks for any info

RDC doesn't handle color management as far as I know -- I believe it uses the display profile for the target machine (the one doing the processing, not the one displaying the result).

  • Apple Remote Desktop 3 and Real VNC

Just wanted to post an FYI, that recently I found out VNC (Real VNC) Server & Viewer were conflicting with ARD 3.2 in terms of screen sharing/control. All other connections were fine. (e.g. chat, message, package install, etc..) For me to regain a successful connection to my clients I had to uninstall VNC, reboot and "whalla" screen share/control was full functional again. I don't know if anyone had a work around for the two programs to work simultaneously, but I couldn't figure it out and just uninstalled VNC. Not sure if this would be the same case with Ultra VNC, but I think it is safe to say that if you are wanting to remote manage a group of Macs (PC's included) you should stick with just one program. Any thoughts out there?

    The "normal" version:
Yep. All generic VNC software will conflict with ARD. This is a good note for most admins out there.
    The "geek" version:
Tell RealVNC to use port 5901. Look at the "Connection Options" section of the documentation for your server-side os/version.
    The "too much information?" version:
Actually, VNC servers and ARD do just fine side by side. (Aside from listening and bonjour advertising and that), both servers are actually inactive until they receive a connection request. The clincher is that any services ...from Apache to ARD reports to SMB to VNC... always need to be listening to different sockets on different ports. In the good old days, VNC servers could actually listen on several ports and would serve at different color depths and resolutions based on the port number of an incoming request. In fact even today, because ARD uses a mostly standards-compliant VNC implementation, it has to use a different port for reports and commands and such so it won't conflict with the inbuilt VNC server.
VNC is usually on port 5900 nowadays. ARD uses 5900 for its VNC without asking. ARD also uses (or has used) 3283, 5432, 5433, and 5988 for reports and other non-VNC communication. (See: Apple's [list of common ports|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629].) In my experience, ARD's VNC client can very reliably control standards-compliant VNC servers, though your mileage may vary.
-- To control a non-ARD VNC server via ARD, just do whatever you normally would in ARD. When controlling, it may warn you that the VNC server doesn't support keystroke encryption, etc. but should still work fine.
-- To connect ARD to a VNC service running on a different port, choose "Add by Address… ⌥⇧⌘N" and in the address field, type the domain name or IP address as you normally would, but append a full colon ":" and the port number. For example, jsmith.example.com:5901 would connect to the computer named jsmith but would look for the VNC service on port 5901.
-- To control a Mac which is running the OS's ARD-VNC server from a third-party VNC app, you must have 'plain' VNC access turned server-side (that is, on the Mac to be controlled: System Prefs > Sharing > Remote Management > Computer Settings > "VNC viewers…"). As long as you use a decent client, it should work reliably after that.
I routinely run the standard ARD "Remote Management" services on my servers for normal remote interaction, but then have a Vine Server set up on 5901 with vastly different settings to benefit low bandwidth connections from the internet, from my iPod's VNC client, or through bouncy ssh tunnels.
If you have any other experiences or questions, or especially if anyone wants try any of this and encounters problems, by all means post back.
    Cheers, Joel
