Remote Desktop and Windows 8.1

I may not have this in the correct form area, and if so, I apologize.
I have Windows Sever 2012 datacenter running and until about a week ago, from my Windows 8.1 (with Update), I could remote into the unit with remote desktop connection.
Now, when I try the window pops up that a session on my computer is already in progress (the Windows 8.1 says this).
I can remote ok from the 8.1 to other servers and other PCs.
I can remote from other PCs into the Server 2012.
I can EVEN remote into the Server 2012 from the 8.1, BUT I have to use the IP address of the server in the remote connection box.
Same subnet, same domain.  Worked fine until about two weeks ago and started after no updates or such.  Can ping to and from both units by both name and IP with no issue.
Please advise and thank you!

Try command and post result:

Have you checked the server, is there undisconnect console session on it?

  • HELP - Remote Desktop and Windows? Is it possible? I need your thoughts...

I am currently trying to set up a connection between my MacBook and my Windows XP PC. I have Leopard 10.5.3 and Windows XP. I want to set up the connection to my PC so I can use my Remote Desktop to control/observe/receive files from my PC to my MacBook. So far its been going well, I was searching on Google for some answers, and I read something about VNC Viewer and Remote Desktop. I am not sure how this works but I just want Remote Desktop to work with my PC. So I was just wondering if anyone here can help me out, or if anyone here has any suggestions/ideas. Thanks.

You've probably figured this out by now, but you can't use Remote Desktop with XP Home. It only works with XP Pro. As a free alternative, you should be able to run a VNC server on the XP machine, and a VNC client on the Mac, and access that way. A brief decription can be found here: http://lifehacker.com/software/feature/geek-to-live--how-to-control-your-home-co mputer-from-anywhere-125607.php (Ignore the parts about opening ports on your router to the internet--this is best used only on local network, unless you get more complicated.) If you do want access over the net, perhaps its better to go with a commercial service such as pcAnywhere or GoToMyPC is an easier route.

I am accessing a windows server using remote desktop and I am wondering if I can transfer files by sharing drives?

Probably. You may be able to use Finder > Go > Connect to server to access the server. You may be able to share folders using Remote Desktop too. Whichever one you like the best.

  • Remote Desktop and Admintool

    I am using Solaris 10x86
1-How to get admintool to work. I was told to smc but nothing happens.
I open a console then type smc then press enter.Where can I download the admintool only.
2-How can I remote desktop Unix-Windows XP Pro and vice versa.(Step by step please).
    Thanks.

If you install NetSarang Xmanager 2.0
(there is a #day trial) on your windows box, you can connect to Solaris 10 without any config on the Solaris 10 end.
    http://www.netsarang.com/
Just like "remote deskop" that windows uses.
If you havnet modified Solaris 10, and cant connect, try:
    Login as a root.
Enable CDE login when system boot:
    # /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e [enter]
    Reset the process:
    # /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -reset
If you want to disable the CDE login setting, do the following:
    # /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -d [enter]
If you dont want to purchase Xmanager 2.0 (after the trial expires), you could try installing RealVNC on Solaris 10, and the Real VNC viewer on Windows.
However Xmanager is the best way (dont need to modify Solaris), and seems to be the fastest.

  • Remote Desktop and the various VNCs

I've used VNC and Remote Desktop on Windows for a while and love them dearly. I was ecstatic when I picked up my mini in August and found that Tiger's ARD included VNC support.
But it's driving me up the bloody wall.
My laptop is a windows machine, so I've used VNC and TightVNC to connect to it. TightVNC is much faster but either one will eventually choke and then I can't reconnect until I physically disable/enable remote desktop access on the Mac.
Are any companies out there developing a true windows client? Past research has shown zip in that regard, but it would be wonderful to have accelerated desktop access.
    Fingers crossed

    Hi Rafael,
Thanks for the reply. I've decided to go that route as well. With Hamachi ( www.hamachi.cc ) coming out for the Mac shortly (console version just came out, GUI version coming soon) it will make for secure sessions that anyone in the family can use. I won't even dare try to explain SSH to family members.
I'd still love to see an Aqua-accelerated remote desktop solution that runs on Windows though.

  • Ctrl+Alt+End in Remote Desktop Running Windows XP with VMWare Fusion

I am using remote desktop on Windows XP in a VMWare virtual machine on my MacBook Pro. When the remote computer I'm connecting to times out and locks the screen, I need to send ctrlaltend to get back to the login dialog to unlock the screen (ctrlaltdel gets processed by the local windows box and never passed through so ctrlaltend is the appropriate sequence in remote desktop). Only one problem ... my MacBook Pro keyboard doesn't have an End key (or any other key that maps to it as far as I can tell) ... neither does the bluetooth wireless keyboard I use. So how do I send ctrlaltend? Anybody else run into this and find a satisfactory solution short of disconnecting remote desktop and logging in all over again?

That's weird.. I use RDC on my Vista's VM all the time and Ive never encountered this issue.
Try running the RDC in full screen, so that the Ctrl-Alt-Del will go to the RDC.
You can close the RDC window, and change the Options "Send Windows Combination Key" either to the RDC or the VM, or while the RDC in full screen.

  • Remote desktop to windows using vpn

I am unable to remote desktop my window based office pc from my mac book pro using VPN.
I even tried to install rdp , but no luck. Please respond asap.Thanks.

Try TSclientX. I got so sick and tired of MS RDP and the license crap. I mean, it comes bundled with Office, and still stops working every few weeks.
    TSclientX  just works.

  • Apple Remote Desktop and controlling over VPN

    Hi All,
I had a question about whether something was possible and if so if someone could point me to instructions/how-to on setting it up.
I have three Macs I am administering. One is an iMac that stays in the office on the network. Two are MBP's. One is always at a remote location, the other comes in and out of the office. I work remotely administering the server and the three systems. I have the latest version of Apple Remote Desktop and obviously can access the server fine. I was wondering though if there is any way besides having the person give me their IP address every time that through the VPN I can see their system, then access it in Remote Desktop just like we are on the network together? Basically they connect to the network via VPN if they are remote and I do the same thing and then access their machine.
I hope that makes sense. I went through different parts of the guide for ARD but didn't come across a method like that described in there.
Anyone with opinions? Thoughts? Chants of I'm an idiot? haha
    Thanks

Yeah for some reason I cannot get this to work right. Even if I scan the 5 VPN IP's I have setup I cannot see their machines when I am connected to the VPN. I tested it the other day by connecting one of the systems to an outside internet connection, then logged it into the VPN. I then connected my own to a different source and logged into the VPN, but Remote Desktop just won't find it.
Just not sure why it doesn't work. I can see the computers on our internal network though, just not any connected via VPN.

  • Remote Desktop and Snow Leopard Server

What is the best way to use Remote Desktop with Snow Leopard Server?
I purchased a mac mini with snow leopard server and Remote desktop so I can easily manage my 11 computers, install and upgrade software etc. etc.
The mac mini server will basically be nothing but a server.
I will use as my main computer a mac pro. Do I need to install Remote Desktop on the server and on my mac pro? What is the best way to deploy the services of Remote desktop and mac os x server?

You install Apple Remote Desktop on the machine you want to control from. In this case, install on your Mac Pro. All you have to do on the clients (controlled Macs) is enable remote management in the System Preferences under Sharing. Just make sure that all your controlled Macs are up to date on their ARD version (v3.3.2) which can be taken care of from Software Update.

    remote desktop and apache.
There are times I feel that someone is looking over my shoulder, and changing my settings and controlling me.
I would like to at least be able to communicate with them so I can ltarn. I also want to be able to monitor and have some say so as to what they are doing to my computer.
    Thank you

    Thanx for your reply.
I should have stated that this is my personal computer and if any one should be the administrator I would think it would be me.
