Remote desktop connection problem windows 8

Hi everybody,
I hope you can help us. We run a software package that uses a remote desktop connection. When the program is minimised for more than a couple of minutes, the connection disconnects and takes a while to reconnect. We've been in touch with the guys that run
the program and they've said that there's no problem on their end and that it must be on our end. It's happening with all three computers at one location and it's not happening with our two computers in our other location.
I've been in touch with the online support guys in microsoft and they couldn't help. So I'm wondering if any of you can help us (in laymans terms please!).
All our computers run Windows 8.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Yes, you can check with 2 different settings. 1) By Collection properties (Server 2012\R2) and RDP-Tcp connection under Remote Desktop Service Manager (Server 2008 R2). 2) The other setting is related to GPO (Set time
limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services sessions) as following path.
Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
You can check below link (Configuration 1) for more information.

  • Remote Desktop Connection to Windows 8 PC from other computers crashing

    Hi all.
Was hoping someone would be able to help me with an issue I'm having.
I'm trying to get a LAN remote desktop connection established to my Windows 8 laptop. It's an HP ENVY 17t-2100 CTO 3D Edition Notebook PC. Note that I'm running Windows 8 Pro only - not 8.1 as HP haven't released 8.1 graphics drivers for this laptop and probably
never will. The computer has a single user profile that has full administrator rights.
I have followed numerous web tutorials on how to turn on Remote Desktop. I've gone into Advanced System Settings > System Properties > Remote > checked "Allow Remote connections to this computer". All seems ok to me.
The problem comes when I try to establish a connection. When the connection is made, it almost instantaneously crashes the session on the computer or device trying to connect. The RDP client on my Windows 7 laptop, Mac OSX or Mac running Windows 8.1 Pro just
crashes, while the RDP iPhone or iPad app simply flickers for a few seconds then goes back to the main screen. Meanwhile, the HP ENVY loads the lock screen and displays a message saying XXX device is connected remotely and it won't let me log back in to kill
the connection or do anything. I have to restart the computer from then to be able to use it again.
I'm convinced there's not a problem with my local network as the HP ENVY can RDP into the Windows 7 laptop or Mac running Windows 8.1 without any problems. All computers are connected via Ethernet to a Linksys/Cisco wireless ADSL modem router which supports
Gigabit. The iPhone and iPad of course connect to the wifi network from the Cisco/Linksys modem router
I've also had a brief look at the RDP local connection logs. From what I can make out, they confirm that a user has successfully logged in, but they don't provide a crash log or a log of the user ever disconnecting, probably because I have to restart the computer
to continue using it. Dead end there, it seems.
The HP ENVY is connected to 3 external HP LED monitors. I've disconnected them and tried all devices with no luck. I've also played round with the RDP client settings to not mount drives or printers and the HP ENVY has no printers connected anyway, though I've
done all I can to remove any printer drivers as I've read elsewhere that they are what could cause the problem, but I've had no luck.
If anyone can suggest anything more that I can try, I would be unbelievably grateful! I'm more than happy to provide screenshots or videos of what happens when I try connecting. I'm not sure what you experts would find immediately helpful so just ask away if
you think I can provide anything.
    Thanks in advance!

The first thing that I would try is to uncheck all of the boxes for local resources on computer running the RDP client. It is possible that a device, such as a printer or other redirected device, is causing the crash. You can also look under Event Viewer
in the event logs of both systems and see if anything unusual appears when you attempt the remote connection.

    Hi Brandon
Many thanks for your suggestions. There's nothing in the logs that I could find, like I said in the original post. I've also tried connecting with bare minimum settings on all devices (FYI the iPad and iPhone version don't support the use of printers) and
    this still hasn't helped.
If you have any other ideas I'd be very glad to hear them!

  • Remote Desktop Connection freezes Windows 7 64-bit

At home, I just upgraded from a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit desktop to a new Dell with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS.  Remote Desktop Connection from my old home PC to my work PC worked great for years even after upgrading both to Windows 7 Ultimate.  Now everytime I try to use Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to connect into my work PC (with Windows Ultimate 7 32-bit) the RDC window will freeze after a new seconds of use.  If I wait approx 3 minutes the RDC window will unfreeze for a few seconds before freezing again.  If I minimize the RDC window on my home PC, I can continue to work because it's only the RDC window that is frozen.  Here is everything I've tried already that has not helped:
    1. Trying reducing the home PC screen resolution
    2. Downloaded the latest 64-bit driver from NVIDIA for the GTX 260 graphics card
    3. Taken my home PC to work to test behind the company's firewall--doesn't help
    4. Disabled Window Auto Tuning (suggestion from this website)
    5. Called Dell support--they tried for about an hour to help but couldn't; thier suggestion was to order Windows 7 32-bit version OS and install it
    6. Tried running the 32-bit version of mstsc.exe - no help
    7. Using MSCOMFIG, disabled all Startup items - no help
I have another home PC running Windows XP, it works perfectly using RDC to connect to my work PC.  Also, I have no problem at all using RDC from my work PC back into my home PC (the other direction).
Here may be a clue:  if I start up my new Dell Windows 64-bit OS in Safe Mode, the RDC session does not freeze.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Hi,
Since it works in Safe Mode, I suspect this should be related to some conflicts, please try the methods in the following Knowledge Base article to have a check:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
In addition, please also ensure the NIC drivers on all of the computers are up-to-date.
    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Remote desktop connection from windows computer to TC

    hi all,
what I have: I have a TC 2TB, bought it three months ago.
what I did: I have set it up at home. Using as base station for all my devices, iphone 4, ipad 2, macbook air and also other laptop. My TC is connected to ADSL modem with an ethernet cable (as expected). with port forwarding option of ADSL modem (in NAT Properties), I managed to forward any connection to TC. I have a static IP by the way.
what I can do: from work or anywhere else other than my home network, I can connect to my static IP (via "Connect to Server" option in any mac device), it pops up a user name and password window, I login with my TC user name and decive password. In an instant my TC disk is mounted on my desktop, and I can reach all my files in it as if it is an external hard disk.
what I cannot do: from a windows computer outside my network, I cannot connect to TC. I try to do this through "Remote Desktop Connection". Is this possible? If so how? Is this a problem related to network connection or TC settings?
    aakibar

You cannot remote desktop into a TC..
In fact you cannot remote access a TC from windows.. sorry.. but SMB protocol is blocked on the internet.. there are work arounds but no security.. don't do it.
The only other protocol the TC offers is AFP.. there is no AFP file access software available for windows. You need to use a Mac.
The best alternative is vpn.. replace your current adsl modem router with a vpn one.. eg draytek.. then you can access your home network. Since I presume when you say you have static ip you mean public IP then vpn is easy (well once setup it is).. reliable and secure.

  • Remote Desktop Connection between Windows Mobile 6.5 and server 2012

    Hi all,
We have problem with remote desktop connection. The server that I want to connect is 2012 R2.
We have no trouble with server 2008. I searched from internet, there are solutions on server side(I am not sure if these suggestions solve the problem), but our customers don’t want to solve this problem
on server side because it is diffucult and risky.
Is there a solution on handheld terminal side to do?
Operating system: WM 6.5 classic(Professional o.s. has no effect, same error continues)
Any help will be appreciated from your side.
    With Best Regards.

    Hi,
What is the precise error message you are seeing?  What are the exact symptoms?
I don't remember what version of RDP/featureset is supported by Windows Mobile 6.5.  Perhaps the client does not support Network Level Authentication, which is required by default on Server 2012 R2.  You can enable non-NLA connections by
unchecking Allow connections only from computers with Network Level Authentication in Server Manager -- RDS -- Collections -- Properties of collection -- Security tab.
Lack of NLA may not be the cause of the issue you are experiencing, however, if it is the only way to solve it would be to change the server setting or to potentially install a new client on the device that supports NLA.

  • Dymo Labelwriter printers not working via Mac Remote Desktop connection into Windows Server 2008

I'm having a really hard time getting Dymo labelwriters (models 335 turbo and 450 turbo) to work over a remote desktop connection and I'd appreciate any help you can offer.
To briefly describe the situation, I'm working for a Doctor's office, moving their IT from a remotely-hosted environment where employees connect to their Windows Server 2008 virtual machines (hosted off-site) via Windows 7 machines through Microsoft's remote
    desktop software.
The new setup will have new servers running in-house instead of remotely and will be based on Apple's Mac Mini machines running Windows 7 for some tasks through Parallels virtualization
software running directly on each employee's Mac Mini.
We have 3 of the Dymo 450 Turbo products and one 330 Turbo, each connected directly to a Mac Mini.
Here's the problem: I have Microsoft's Remote Desktop software running on the Macs natively, connected to each employee's virtual machine on the remote server for now, until the time comes to make the switch to using the new in-house server. The remote desktop
software works fine - employees are able to connect successfully and access their desktops fine. I have the "Forward Printing Devices" option checked in the Microsoft Remote Desktop app so that the hosted virtual desktops can see the local labelwriters.
However, the Dymo Label software running on the remote server will not recognize that a labelwriter is present.
If I go to the Printers and Devices window on the remote server, the labelwriter shows up fine, named "dymo labelwriter 450 turbo (redirected 10)" however running the Dymo Label software gives an error, "Dymo label says no printer connected:
dymo label printer requires a dymo label printer be installed and connected ..."
To try and narrow down the cause of the problem, on the same Mac, I ran Windows 7 via Parallels and set up a new remote desktop connection within that Windows VM. Just to be clear, instead of using the RDC software running in the Mac OS, this new connection
is using a Windows virtual machine running on the same Mac, with the RDC being established from within that Windows VM. Again, I forward printing devices and the labelwriter shows up in Printers and Devices on the remote server as "dymo labelwriter 450
turbo (redirected 10)" This time, the Dymo Label software recognizes the attached labelwriter and runs fine.
I'd appreciate any advice you can give on why, as far as the remote server is concerned, a forwarded labelwriter from Microsoft remote desktop running natively on a Mac isn't recognized
but it is if forwarded from within Windows, bearing in mind that the labelwriter shows up on the remote server in both instances and is called the same name in devices and printers.
Sorry for the long-winded question. I hope you can help me.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Firstly please check whether you have driver capable for your printer with MAC MRD. Also I would like you to check with updated MRD version 8.0.9 for MAC OSX.
    https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12
Because as you have commented it can work with windows RDP, so please also try to contact Dymo Labelwriter printer and inquire regarding the issue.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Remote Desktop Connection in Windows 8

Hi, I can't seem to figure out how to make my local drives available when using the app Remote Desktop Connection on my Windows 8. All the instructions I found on Microsoft do not apply to Windows 8 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc728050(v=ws.10).aspx
.  Or else I can't find this "Options" tab they're talking about.

The program doesn't come up in a window anything like that. It's full screen with only the option to connect to a server. And in settings there are no options that resemble that.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Problem in Windows 7 Home Premium

First off i have changed most of my computers in the house to static IP addresses. I only configured one static IP address to the router which is my laptop out of the two computers i am working with. Desktop and Laptop. Second I have enabled the Remote Desktop
on both computers and changed the firewall setting for the computer or the anti virus software. I tried the  netstat -a but dont understand how to read it and when I did i never saw a host or port number for 3389 at all.
Then finally I went into the registry/regedit to try to see if I had the port number available and port 3389 was not there is just had #"2" in hexadecimal and the file says ehshell.exe which I have no clue what that means. When i click on that it
does not have the Port Number as the Title nor the port number itself as decimal which should be 3389 as decimal data but instead it has 2 as the data for hexadecimal. I can change the data for the port numbe and change to 3389 but I can't change the title
from ehshell.exe in the decimal value to PortNumber? The letters on my keyboard just will not coroperate or respond but it will highlight the word and thats it but not make a change to the data value ehshell.exe to something else.
Is it supposed to do that or what I wonder does anybody have any solutions to this so I can get my Remote Desktop running as soon as possible and no I do not have an Nvidia graphics card. I dont know what the problem is so can somebody please help
me? I need it for my Windows Server 2008 R2 class next semester and I need to be able to remote to other computers and devices.

    Hi,

  • Remote Desktop Connection Problems

Every time I install updates, I seem to lose my RDC. All was working last week and the computers are set to accept remote connections. On my Windows Server 2012 Essentials, I can log into my remote Web Access, then go to "Computers" and when I
click on the computer (or any of them) I get the prompt for log in, but when I enter in my credentials, the same log in screen keeps popping up. See the image below. I do not see a domain name on the credentials screen, but not sure. Any ideas? Thanks

    Hello,
Try entering your credentials with the DOMAIN\Username method to see if that works for you.

  • Remote Desktop Connection problem with multiple Lenovo machines

    Hello,
I've been running into issues with connecting to some of the latest Lenovos we purchased using RDP. It has happened with a batch of 3 x220s and a batch of 2 Thinkstation C20s (possibly others that I haven't yet had to remote into).
The symptoms are maddening in the paucity of information given for the failure. It basically goes like this -- type in the name of the computer and hit connect. Immediately I get a "this computer can't connect to the remote computer"; it's so sudden that it seems to be getting rejected immediately. I've check every windows log (even the ones under Applications and Services) and the ONLY thing logged (on the destination computer) is that an RDP session was initiated. NO reason is given for the failure. No error event given.
Has anyone else run into this? I'm having to use 3rd party software to log in to computers, which is becomming a nuisance as I am trying to set up computers at a branch office for new users. Is there some way to debug RDP? I ran a packet sniffer and a total of 6 packets are passed for these "sessions" -- mostly TCP handshake packets at that, and only one actual RDP packet. Is there a more verbose log I should be looking at?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you can't connect to your new or restored Lenovo with the OEM install of Windows 7, it may very well be that the particular registry key below is not set to the typical default value (I think Lenovo has messed up their OEM install image). The two secrity packages 'tspkg' and 'pku2u' are missing on OEM Lenovo images.
    This registry key:
    HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\lsa\security packages
    Should look like this:
kerberos msv1_0 schannel wdigest tspkg pku2u
Fix it and RDC will connect.
(may need a reboot to take effect)

    Hi,
When you try to start the Remote Destop Connection, what errors it showed out?
Could the other PCs connect this PC with the RDC?
So you have read this blog?
RDP connections might fail due to a problem with KB2621440 - MS12-020
    Did you reinstalled the KB2621440?
Besides, did you follow this guide to enable the RDC connection?
Connect to another computer using Remote Desktop Connection
    And also this guide?
Why can’t I connect using Remote Desktop Connection?
Please take a check with those settings again.

  • Problem Establishing Remote Desktop Connection from Win 7 64Bit

I just got a new Lenovo laptop running Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit with Service Pack 1. I have installed all Win 7 Updates.
When I try to connect to other Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) desktops through Remote Desktop Connection over my LAN, I get the following error:
"An authentication error has occurred. The requested security package does not exist"
I can connect to a Windows Small Business Server 2003 32 bit server from the laptop without problem.
All machines are members of the same Windows domain.
The Windows 7 machines I am trying to connect to can connect to each other without issue. NLA is set as not required on each of the desktops, though I have tried turning the NLA setting on, and received the same error.
I have even tried running the 32 bit version of mstsc.exe and disabling the 64 bit version as discussed here:
    http://www.davidmoore.info/2009/12/02/running-32-bit-remote-desktop-connection-on-windows-64-bit/
    This had no effect either.

    Hi,
Based on my research, please check whether the value of HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\Security Packages is
    kerberos
    msv1_0
    schannel
    wdigest
    tspkg
    pku2u
If not, please correct it and see how it works.
Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For
more information about how to back up and restore the registry, please refer to
