Remote Desktop crashes when disconnected on Lenovo Carbon X1

Hello everyone,
We ordered about 10 new Lenovo Carbon X1 Touch (Model 20A70037US) machines at work and all seem to suffer from a similar issue.  If an RDP (Remote Desktop) connection either times out or is closed for any reason, the remote desktop application crashes.  This is incredibly annoying as we are a cloud based software company and regularly have multiple remote desktop session up at all times.  All windows and lenovo updates are up to date.  My Surface Pro 2 with the same Windows 8.1 pro OS and it doesnt have this problem.  Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve

  • Remote Desktop Crashes When trying to log-in after changing password on the remote computer

    Hi.
I use cisco VPN to connect to my work computer.
I can use RDC to connect to any computer on home network without issue.
Yesterday I changed to password on my work computer and now every time I try to log from my home computer RDC crashes.
I've disabled printing/clipboard on local devices and resourses, and I've deleted all the RDC cache files on the computer but I continue to have the same issues.
    please help

    Hi hg,
I didn’t found relevant settings in remote desktop connection manager, I checked the “Use multiple monitors when necessary” under tools->options, but seems like it is used for span a full screen over multiple monitors. For now I’d suggest figuring out
why your remote session keeps crushing.
I suspect the crash is not related to password changing, similar cases normally occurs after some local device driver, please try to disable the local printer in Remote desktop connection local resources first.

The connection was established from Windows 8.1. Any Solutions available?

What Remote Desktop options have you chosen on the client (i.e., system where you're making the connection from) when making the connection?  Have you tried varying them?
For what it's worth, I seem to be able to make a remote desktop connection to my Win 10 TP 9879 test system just fine.  In my case I happen to be making the connection at the same screen size (1920 x 1200 pixels) as my local console uses.
Also, how are you breaking the connection?  Are you selecting "Disconnect" on the remote system, or are you just closing down the Remote Desktop application?  That could make a difference.

  • MS Remote Desktop crashes Mac OS X when trying to add a certificate

As written in the headline, when trying to permanently add a certificate, the window where I am supposed to enter my password produces the rainbow wheel of doom.
    Steps to reproduce:
    - Open MS Remote Desktop 8.0.8 (Build 25010)
    - Connect to a server
    - in "verify certificate", press "show certificate", then tick "always trust...."
    - click "continue"
    - password window opens, Mac crashes.
    Steps to avoid the crashing:
    - instead of "show certificate", just press "continue" - it works fine, it just doesn't store the certificate.

    Hi,
The version 8.0.9 is released, please try the latest one and see how it works.

  • Remote Desktop Connection keeps disconnecting

I have BT Hub 3 (recently upgraded to Broadband Unlimited at the end of Jan 2015).
Up until recently I was able to Remote Desktop into my work computer (via VPN tunnel) with no problems at all.
Around March 6th, I began to experience problems with the Remote Desktop Connect (RDP), in that it now makes an initial connection and then disconnects (typically within a few seconds, occasionally after a couple of minutes).
It will then cycle through a number of reconnection attempts, all with the same result, before it finally drops altogether with the message:
'The Remote Desktop Services Session has ended. Connection to the remote computer was lost, possibly to network connectivity problems'.
I have tried restoring both machines back to a date when i know the connection was working - no joy. I've also tried deleting an re-creating now VPN and RDP connections - no joy. I've researched online and tried various other things, but still have the same problem.
I've tried connecting using a laptop (via my wirelss connection) with the same result. My manager has RDP'd in from his home machines and has had no problem at all.
This leads me to consider whether the problem is with the router/BT Hub itself. I've tried the online diagnostic tools with no resolution to this problem.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Oh well, I suppose that after more than 2 months of frustration with this issue, the BTCare Community is unable to help me.
I can be fairly sure that it's not my machine as it's also happened using a laptop, plus I've even reset my PC right back to its original factory state just to sure that nothing had become corrupted.
The network guys where I work have also looked at this and can find nothing at that end to cause this problem.
I've even borrowed another BT Hub and tried it through that - same problem.
So where does the answer lie? VPN issue? I've tried other VPN options - same problem. RDP problem? I've practically exhausted the list of suggested solutions that can be found by trawling the internet.
I even upgraded the broadband cable to replace the cheap old thing that has been working perfectly well in terms of broadband, again, to eliminate this as a possibility. Now I'm stumped.
To me, it looks like the problem lies between my router and the workplace network, i.e. a physical problem among the miles of lines connecting the two. Of course I don't want to shell out for a BT engineer to come out to investigate, so I thought that the combined wisdom of this community may have been able to help.
    Sadly not.

  • Remote Desktop crashes on launch.

    Hi all,
I'm stuck as to why I'm getting this problem: when I launch Apple Remote Desktop, it crashes right away. I trashed the old ARD app, emptied trash, rebooted my Mac, installed ARD 3 from CD, updated ARD 3 to the latest version available today, repaired permissions on my local HD using Disk Utility, but no change.
    In Console, I get:
    09/04/30 17:56:20 com.apple.launchd[175] ([0x0-0x2c02c].com.apple.RemoteDesktop[400]) Exited abnormally: Bus error
    And also:
    09/04/30 17:56:32 com.apple.launchd[175] ([0x0-0x2d02d].Remote Desktop[407]) Exited abnormally: Bus error
    Any ideas?

You might try removing the copy of ARD you've installed using the instructions here and reinstalling. Make sure you update to the latest version before you attempt to launch ARD for the first time, particularly important if your disk of ARD installs a version prior to 3.2.
    Hope this helps.

  • Crashes when disconnecting external monitors

I switched from a Windows laptop to a MacBook Pro for improved stability and superior sleep behavior, and it is better, except for one glaring exception: frequently when disconnecting an external monitor (using a DVI cable), it crashes by either locking up and requiring a manual restart or by immediately and abruptly rebooting. Has anyone else encountered similar problems and know of the solution?
    Here the 2 scenarious:
    1. MBP is on & closed & using an external DVI display which I then disconnect -> sometimes MBP crashes & powers-off or automatically restarts
    2. MBP is on & open & using both internal & external display & I unplug the external display -> sometimes MBP crashes & powers-off or automatically restarts
The external monitors are Dell LCDs with DVI connectors.
A workaround is to turn off the computer before disconnecting the external display but that is not much of a workaround because that defeats the objective of sleeping the computer.

What are the symptoms when yours crashes/freezes?
I have had my MBP lock up a few times, where the mouse cursor still moves around, but absolutely nothing responds. On the rare occasions when I've had another machine on the network I've been able to log in remotely, so it seems to be only the display locking up, not the entire machine.
I'm not 100% sure, but this seems to happen usually only after I have connected the machine to an external display, so it could be related. It doesn't however happen immediately like it sounds like yours does, usually some hours later.
As an aside, I hooked by old Titanium Powerbook up to an external display several times a week for about 2 years. I never put it asleep to do this, and never had a single problem doing this at all.

Just out of interest, why the old KDE?
You may get more info if you start firefox from the command line and reproduce the crash.

  • Crashes when disconnecting a monitor on OS X

I have a totally reproducible problem wherein every time I disconnect a monitor or computer projector from my MBP, Dreamweaver CC crashes.
Has anyone else seen this, or am I just lucky?
Setup:  MacBookPro, Yosemite 10.10.1, Dreamweaver Build 6947
    Thanks for any info,
    Michael

Thanks for the response Tayfun.  Just for clarity though, this issue is ONLY with dreamweaver, therefore closing other apps doesn't effect anything one way or the other -- and besides, I should have to close everything out in order to receive an effective user experience.
I use thunderbolt for my external monitor but I went ahead and tried to emulate the problem with HDMI since that's what you use.  Sure enough, I was able to reproduce the problem.  In fact, I have more precise information about when this error occurs.  Essentially, Dreamweaver will crash EVERY time the display changes, no matter how it changes -- be it from duel screen to mirroring, or vice versa.... whether it be hdmi, airplay, or thunderbolt.  Regardless of any of these factors, dreamweaver will ALWAYS crash when moving from one type of display setting to another.  Furthermore, the only way I've been able to keep dreamweaver from crashing is to plug in the display before launching dreamweaver and then shut down dreamweaver before removing the external screen.  The problem doesn't occur when tinkering with display settings without an external monitor connected -- again, it's only when an external monitor is connected.  This is problematic however because in the instance I forget to save my work before removing my monitor, I'm screwed.  This problem really needs fixed.

  • Skype Desktop crashes when it connects to the Inte...

Recently my Skype has updated to the newest version and since then it has crashed each time it connects to the internet. I have gone through other questions on this site and none that I have found have helped me.
As far as I am aware my Internet Explorer works fine, my drivers are up to date, my windows system is english and I have downloaded all optional and required system files. However, the only thing I have noticed is when I tried to visit https://apps.skype.com/home/ with IE I get the skype loading icon and the page never loads fully (But doesn't crash), not sure if that is relevent.
Skype for windows 8.1 works fine but the desktop version crashes. I have checked that I have allowed the program through my firewall and disabled and re-enabled .NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .Net 2.0 and 3.0) and run skype with it on and with it off and also ran programs to fix problems with the NET framework if it encountered any. Skype is still crashing when it connects to the internet.
I have also run Directx diagnostics tool and will attach the saved file.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can provide

Note: this is not an issue particular to FaceRig, there are quite a few other programs using virtual cams that are affected by the 7.0 upgrade in the same manner. There is however a potential solution.
We have talked with some of our users affected by this issue (this does not affect everyone doing the 7.0 update, just some) and we trust that we have found the solution (at least until we've had time to investigate some more).
Seems the problem  to has to do with the default webcam settings (you just need to go though the Skype initial setup again).. The short version of the fix is:
    1. Go to Steam Client and do a "remove local application data" on FaceRig
    2. Go though the initial setup process on Skype ( now it won't crash) and/or visit the webcam setting menu and make sure everything is working and everything is updated.
    3. Re-install facerig (skip reinstalling the open codecs if you already have them installed)
    Now everything should be working.
I recommend reading the detailed step by step on the FaceRig Steam support forums:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/274920/discussions/ ( look for the Skype 7.0.0.102 pinned thread - i cqannot link directly that thread because there is a limit on the length of URL's here.)
PS: if you are the tinkering type, steps 1 and 3 can be simply substituted by un-registering and then re-registering the direct show filters ( all of them) for the FaceRig Virtual Cam ( .bat files are provided with facerig to do exactly just that) , but most folks do not want to mess with directly registering/unregistering DirectShow filters, so it is simpler to ask for an uninstall and a re-install.
Note that this kind of fix might also work for FFsplit.ax or other affected DirectShow filters too ( as this issue is not particular to FaceRig alone, more programs are affected by this update).

  • Why is Remote Desktop running when I have it disabled?

I am running Windows 7 Professional. Looking at the Event Viewer today, I examined Microsoft/Windows/Terminal Services/Local Session Manager/Operational. There are 1,959 events recorded, dating back to 7/30/2014. A typical entry--one from today, reads in
the details: Remote Desktop Services: Session Logon Successful. User: PC\UserName Session ID:2. Source Network Address: LOCAL. The subsequent entry reads: Remote Desktop Services: Shell Start Notification Received. User: PC\UserName. Session ID:2. Source Network
Address: LOCAL. There are also entries for Session Logoff Succeeded, Session Has Been Discontinued, and Session Has Been Reconnected. It appears that these entries have been recorded each time we log on, log off, and switch user. My question is: Why are these
events being recorded under Terminal Services and Remote Desktop Services events? Under Services, I have disabled Remote Desktop Configuration, Remote Desktop Services, and Remote Desktop Services User Mode Port Redirector. In Control Panel/System, I have

About a month ago, I discovered a strange new hardware installation of a PS/2 mouse and i8042 port in the Event Viewer. Consequently, under Hidden Devices in Device Manager, I did see the PS/2 mouse that I never installed.
Yesterday, I ran netstat -anobv and it showed two ports listening on the network for which it said, "Cannot obtain ownership information." One was port 445, for which I have blocked incoming activity on the firewall. The other was port 5357,
which according to Microsoft has some security vulnerabilities related to Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication. Since this is a standalone PC with no network attached devices, I disabled both of these services. As of
this morning, the PS/2 mouse has disappeared from Device Manager.
A new process has popped up using netstat -anobv, on port 8883. It's IANA registered to MQTT. Should I be concerned about the Remote Desktop Services shown in Event Viewer? I thought it was a cause for concern, especially due to the appearance of the PS/2
mouse and the i8042 port which I did not install. Thank you for your help with this issue.

    Hi Tergivesada,
You may upload the log files into OneDrive and paste the shared link here, we will help to check it out.
For other considerations, some application might also take use of remote services to cause Windows record the logon events, which should be considered a normal behavior. Reference:
    Remote Desktop Services.
For the security consideration, you may take use of Windows Security Essentials to help protect your machine:

And further questions, please feel free to post back.
    Best regards

  • Adobe Reader X slow to load in Remote Desktop Environment when multiple users have the application r

I have Adobe Reader X installed in a Remote Desktop (Citrix XenApp 6.5) environment and find the more people running the process the slower it is to load (it can take up to 15 seconds).  The delay is not related to how loaded the servers are and all other applications load very quickly.  I have tried disabling protected mode and messages, but it does not help.  Does anyone know what is going on here?  Thanks.

Looks like this may have been caused by the FileOpen plugin.  Now removed and for now working ok.

  • Remote Desktop crashes windows pc - HELPPPPP

I have white macbook (dec 08) and I use the microsoft remote desktop connection for mac to connect to my xp machine. It always reboots my xp and causes it to have a serious error. I can connect most of the time but it does this once or twice per day. Any ideas?

Since RDC and your PC are not Apple products, please post your quesiton on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products, as Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products:

  • Palm Desktop crashes when viewing one month in monthly view

Hi--this is a weird problem. Never seen it before.
--My Treo 680 (Win XP SP3), with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 seems to sync fine. I make changes in the Treo, it appears on the desktop.
--Also, I can view and edit the desktop in DAY view.
I normally default to monthly view though--and when I try to edit anything in a monthly view the Palm Desktop immediately crashes. This also seems to happen only with one month--July--where I recently added a lot of new appointments.
I ran the "check" tool for corrupted records, came up clean.
The data seems to be there and be safe and sync, but every time I try to access this one month from monthly view--it crashes.
    Any advice, suggestions?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

Your link generated an error message..but I did find a couple of relevant threads. Thanks..
--I have no appointments spanning midnight, so I presume that's not the problem
--I'm reluctant to downgrade versions. I use the same software on my Vista laptop as on my XP desktop and I'd like to confuse the issue or go through degrading both.
The dbfix program was more interesting.  It found for Calendar: one appointment in several places that it said "blob goes beyond end of record."
I don't know what that means, but it was particularly odd as this particular appointment was repeated in multiple years as long ago as 1969, it said--which goes beyond the ability of the desktop software even to access; certainly I wasn't using a Palm in 1969, and obviously it didn't exist. So I deleted all of them but for that 1969 one since the desktop will only go back to Jan 1970.
After deleting what I could delete on the desktop, I sync'd.
    Didn't help.
I ran the program again and the exact same older--presumbably fictitious-appointments from old years like 2007 were still coming up as checked errors. Hmmm. Apparently deleting them on the desktop helped not at all. So now I deleted one on the 680 as a test.
I sync'd. Immediately crashed the Palm, but when it came came back up. I doublechecekd--that 2007 record was now gone from everything, desktop and PDA. I syncd again,,,went through fine this time.
Ran dbfix again to check--just coming with that one 1969 inexplicable error.  Ran Palm Desktop now. Ran the Options/Tools/Check record on the desktop (included utility) just to be sure--no errors.
The final test--running Palm Desktop back in monthly view.  Immediately crashed again.
    Shrug!
Now, I don't mind buying the dbfix program if that'll do it, but does this seem like something it needs to go through and might actually fix, as opposed to my manually deleting the things?
