Remote Desktop disconnect frequently and reconnects

I have been using remote desktop with Windows 7 and never had an issue. I recently received a Windows 8.1 computer and now Remote Desktop is able to connect, but it will then disconnect for no reason and then reconnect.  There are days when I don't
have an issue, and then there are days it will continue to do it. I am using VPN to connect in. Any suggestions.
Thanks

  • Remote Desktop disconnected because of security error from Windows 8.1 Surface to Server 2008

    Hello,
    I am trying
to connect to a remote app on a 2008 server from a surface pro 3 with 8.1
through Netilla SSL VPN and I getting the following error message.
    Remote Desktop Disconnected
Because of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer Verify that you are logged on to the network and then try connection again
if I am connected to the network and use the RDP file, it connects fine.
    This
was previosluly working, but when I changed the terminal server to per user
license mode from trial mode this happen
This works fine from Windows 7 machines.<o:p></o:p>
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Derek

    Hi Derek,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From the error itself it seems that there is some network connection issue with VPN. Kindly see that you get network when you are using VPN connection, also VPN must be running. You can also try to “ping” the remote computer and see whether there is successful
    ping result.
Also try to use “Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop” option on server side and check whether you can remote desktop successfully.
Apart this issue can also be caused due to certificate as VPN can’t resolve the certificate properly and facing this issue because you are facing issue only with usage of VPN (as you have commented). Please check
    this link for detail.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Questions in regards to server 2012R2 Remote desktop Service deployment and GPO

    Hi Everyone
We have a business requirement moving to 2012R2 RDSH server. I have installed a 2012R2 member servers and enabled Remote desktop licensing role. I have activated the licenses. the servers is in operational
    I have deployed 3 windows 2012R2 member server "RDS1" , "RDS2" and "RDS3".
on RDS1 I ran Add roles and Feature Wizard > Remote Desktop Services installation > Quick Start >Session based desktop deployment to complete the installation.
On RDS1 Server Manage Dashboard Page Select Remote Desktop Services > Overview. Under RD Licensing I added my 2012R2 license server "2012r2-tslic". Go to task. Edit deployment properties RD license mode to per device and click OK.
    Reboot RDS1
Check RD Licensing Diagnoser everything is clear
On RDS2 I did the exact same thing ran Add roles and Feature Wizard > Remote Desktop Services installation > Quick Start >Session based desktop deployment to complete the installation.
But With RDS2 I move this server to an OU that link to a GPO with RD licensing details. after reboot the servers check RD Licensing Diagnoser I can see 2012r2-tslic specified as the license servers.
    Based on this document
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2013/09/20/rd-licensing-configuration-on-windows-server-2012.aspx  Are you suppose to configure RD license server via Remote desktop Service deployment ? Not GPO ?
    Here are my questions
We currently have ten 2008r2 terminal servers in a NLB cluster. each RDSH server have in house application installed on each one of them. User connect to the 2008R2 RDSH servers via RDP connection. we have a restricted GPO apply to those
RDSH servers. user cannot do anything on RDSH servers apart from running the application and use excel.  On the remote desktop session host configuration we have enable settings like end a disconnected session , Active session limit  ,
remote control users session , LPT port redirection.
We push out RD license server detail via GPO to the terminal servers
Can I use our existing GPO apply the licensing server settings , desktop restriction setting to the 2012R2 RDHS servers or we should be using Remote desktop Service deployment to do the job ? If that is the case how would you transfer the
current 2008r2 environment to 2012 using Remote desktop Service deployment. is that mean I have to manually configure 1 by 1.
    Please help
    Many thanks

    Hi,
Please see my response to you in the other thread.  Please contact me via email and I will go over the basic planning and deployment steps with you which will help clear things up and get you started off on the right foot.
You should only run through the wizard and create a RDS deployment once.  Then you add the various servers (RDSH, RD Licensing, RD Gateway, etc), set Deployment properties, etc.
    Thanks.

  • Users not showing in Terminal Server Under Remote desktop services manager and Task Manager

    Hi All,
I have a problem here in Terminal Server. I can not see the users logged in to Server but i know users are accessing the files and currently working.
    1. From the Task Manager-- Show processes from all users displayed all the processes accessing by users.
    2. From the Task Manager-- From Users Tab--No users list at all
    3. From the Command Prompt- Query users-- No information
    4. From the Remote desktop services Manager-- used with IP/Host name-- Still can not see the users list and processes. So i can not kill the session if needed.
    Enviroment:
TS CALS 20 currently accessing 15 users
VM-WARE GUEST: 2008 RS Terminal Services/Remote Desktop services installed
Windows up to date-- Just updated last month

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
As you have tried many steps, I suggest you to try below command line and power shell command if successful in your case. Please try below command with Admin access:
    qwinsta /server:<servername>
To kill a session use rwinsta to delete the session specifying the ID number:
    rwinsta /server:computer01 3
Here's the list of command line tools for Remote Desktop Or, you can use PowerShell:
    Get-RDUserSession and Disconnect-RDUser
Please check the list of Power Shell command from

    Hello,
You can schedule an operating system task (Control Panel -> Schedule task) to either call a batch file or a PowerShell script.
Please read the following resources for examples:

  • Error 500 from Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac and for iOS but not for Windows

I am running Windows Server Standard 2012 as a basic File server and Remote Access Server.  I am able to log into to Server remotely using Windows Remote Desktop Client on Windows 7 and 8 machines without problems
When I try to log in using outside the local network using MRD version 8.0.24308 using OS X 10.9.1 or using iOS 7.0.4, I get the following error:
" The gateway failed to connect with the message: 500 Internal Server Error"
I can also log in remotely WITHIN the local network on a Mac or iOS device, it works without getting an error
    Any Ideas?

My IT person has tried all these and I still get a 500 error when I log in from Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.5.
Here is part of the MRD log dump (not clear where to send the log since MRD doesn't provide an address when you dump the log into email):

  • Apple Remote Desktop 3.1 and Tiger weirdness

I do have Apple Remote Desktop 3.1 Admin installed at a 10.4.10 MB machine.
There are some remote machines, which I have successful admin access.
There is one specific iBook, which causes a headache.
It is a G4/1.2GHz machine, kept updated to current system - now 10.4.10.
I was not able to put ARD 3 remotely on it, so I did it manually and it worked.
BUT I had no access at all to the machine, no wonder what I was doing. After installing ARDclient 3.1 I could send messages back and forth, update the client etc but was unable to observe or steer the machine. After many hacking I figured out that when I open up TCP/UDP Ports 3283 and 5900 manually under firewall in the sharing settings I do have full access. The Apple Remote Desktop settings under services do show their check/uncheck, but they simply do not work i.e. they do not open up the corresponding ports.
What is going on there plus what do I do to change it?
(One of the actions upon hacking was to install Tiger new on the machine, but that did not solve the issue - is there some hidden .plist I have to delete?)

Probably get a reasoned response posting to the ARD forum: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1007

  • Apple Remote Desktop 3.0 and OS 10.6.8

I purchased Apple Remote Desktop 3 several year ago when I was running 10.4.  Last year we got new computers and we are running 10.6.8 now. I tried to load Apple Remote onto my new computer, but it did not work.  It appeared to load, though very quickly.  When I went to my applications folder to open it I got a message saying a newer version was already on the computer and it would not open.  I have not loaded a newer version and when I search for one nothing shows up.  Can I run it on 10.6.8?  Must I purchase a new version? or can I install this and run updates?

    Try this:
    • Insert your ARD CD
    • Open in Finder
    • Right click on the Remote Desktop.mpkg and show contents
    • Navigate to contents/installers
    • Drag the RemoteDesktopAdmin.pkg file onto the workstation and install
    • Run Software Update
    • Upgrade to the latest version of the admin application
You may need to completely uninstall ARD and then reinstall it before this procedure will work. Follow these instructions for the uninstall:

  • Connecting to Remote Desktop using proxy and Remote Desktop Gateway?

I have setup a Remote Desktop Gateway server using Windows Server 2012 R2. I am using the Remote Desktop Gateway as an intermediary between to provide the remote desktop session over 443 since 3389 is blocked at many client locations.
However, I ran into a problem with a client who's using a web proxy.
Is is possible to configure Remote Desktop to connect via web proxy? If so, how? If not does any one have any suggestions on how to provide a Remote Desktop session via 443 over proxy for situations where you don't control the client's PC or network? Does RemoteApps
allow for access via web proxy when using RD Gateway?
    The error message is below:
Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the web proxy server requires authentication. To allow unauthenticated traffic to an RD Gateway server through your web proxy server, contact your network administrator.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi,
My suggestion is to setup a RD Web Access server and make it available for your clients via proxy.

  • Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac and Win 2000 Server

    Hello guys,
Could you please confirm that the latest version 8.0.15 is compatible with WIN 2000 Server connections? If not, could you please advise which version of Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac is the match in order to connect to a WIN 2000 server.
    Thank you in advance,
    Bogdan

    Hello Bogdan
WIN 2000 is supported. See a complete list of supported Windows SKUs here:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn473006.aspx
Go to the AppStore and download Microsoft Remote Desktop.

  • Remote Desktop disconnects immediately. Error 4005; Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated.

Hi, I have always been able to remote into my pc (Win 8.1) using remote desktop. Just recently this stopped working. Either I get a blank screen for about 10 seconds and then it closes or the connection closes immediately. Every time this happens I get error
4005 in the event log; Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated. It seems the remote desktop stopped working after the last set of Windows updates were applied. But no other web searches indicates anyone else has had this problem recently. I've also
read the Windows Server document or error 4005 which suggests my registry may be corrupt or a service may be stopped but this does not seem to apply to my situation. I'm stumped and without being able to remote into my pc from my office I can't do my job.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: After installing a new required Windows update and a bunch of optional Windows updates (that I had been ignoring), the problem has been fixed. I'm guessing which ever Windows update broke Remote Desktop was fixed in the latest update(s).

    Hi arzoo1,
So you have checked the steps mentioned in the article below?
Event ID 4005 — Windows Logon Availability
You may take a try with Dism /online /cleanup-image /resorehealth command and then check if issue insists.
For Windows Update related, please consider system restore or startup repair.
Try to boot into clean boot and then remote again to check if issue insists.
    Best regards

All other devices in my home are working just fine

  • Have Remote Desktop 3.3 and trying to get to XServe network

I installed Apple Remote Desktop 3.3 on my MacBookPro with 10.6.2 and when I launch my VPN Client and Remote Desktop, nothing is showing up, yet on another laptop with 10.5.?, the ARD isn't 3.3 and everything comes up like a charm. Any ideas on how to get it to see the network from home?
    Thanks in advance

Have you configured your ARD to look for the servers over the VPN?
By default ARD will show a list of pre-configured servers that you can manage. You can use the Scanner option to search out remote systems to manage but by default this only searches the local LAN. It won't look over the VPN for remote systems unless you've already added them to your managed servers list.
You can have ARD look over the VPN - just change the 'Local network' pop-up menu in the Scanner window and set 'Network Range, then enter the range of IP addresses across your VPN link.
