Remote Desktop Farm Printing

Hello,
I am setting up a new 2008 R2 RDS load balancing Farm.  I have seen other 2008 R2 Farms with identical print servers setup on each RDSH server.  Each user gets an identical list of printers no matter which server they log into.
They use rdp profiles to follow them to each server.
Is it best to setup print server on each server or is there a different way to do this?  It worked pretty well at other site.  I just want to do it the best way.  If there is any documentation thats good too.
Thanks!

Hi,
The best practice for setting printer in office environment depends on company’s requirement and many other factors. You can install printer or each server and then assign to use by users or make printer redirection setting for client to use as specified printer
is allocate to the users session. If you want then also try to RD Easy print service for your case. For more information you can go through beneath link.

  • Remote Desktop Services Printer Redirection with easy print not working as Desired

    Hi,
I have a Terminal Server Farm with a number of Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Session Host Servers in the Environment. There is also a RD Gateway server which is used to connect to the RD Session host servers in the environment. We
had configure the policy "Use Terminal Services easy Print Driver First" for all the RD Session Host servers. Everything was working well untill a couple of users Complaint about slow printing on Easy Print. While trying to troubleshoot the issue we came
to know that when we by-pass the RD Gatewat and make a Direct connection to the RD Session Host Servers we are able to Print Really fast using Easy Print. Only When we use the RD gateway server we get the problem with the Printing.
As we could not get through this problem and we are not in a condition to by-pass RD Gateway for connections we decided to put the TS Easy print Driver as a Second option. We went ahead and identified the 3 printers for which printing was slow. we
Installed the Drivers for the same printers on all the Terminal Server and Disabled the policy "Use Termianl Server Easy print Driver First". After this we were able to print fast on the 3 printers having Slow printing issues. All the other Printers were using
    Easy print.
After a day we realised that there were more than 20 drivers for Different printers installed in the Print Server Properties. We started getting viered problems with the Printing on all the Terminal servers like, Print Spooler Service Crashing, Hanging,
Users not able to redirect printers at all. To avoid this we Removed the Driver Packages but they came back the very next day.
I am not sure what could be causing this kind of behavior. I would really appriciate if someone can help he with these two problems
    1) Easy print Working Slow only when using RD Gateway Server
    2) Printer Drivers Getting installed on Terminal Servers when Easy Print Policy is disabled.

    1) Easy print Working Slow only when using RD Gateway Server
    > Difficult to track down especially through forum. Looking for some known issues/hotfixes
954743 FIX: After you apply hotfix 954744, printing performance may be significantly slower when you print documents by using Terminal Services Easy Print
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=954743
The Remote Desktop Easy Print (RD Easy Print or TS Easy Print) uses the XPS print driver that ships with .NET Framework.
    2) Printer Drivers Getting installed on Terminal Servers when Easy Print Policy is disabled.
    > If Easy print is not the first driver then it installs the driver if they are InBox drivers
    > If these are non-inbox drivers - This is because administrators are RDPing to the server from another PC with several printer/drivers installed.
When they RDP with printer redirection enabled, the drivers get automatically installed.
To avoid this, either turn off printer redirection at server level from RDP-TCP properties - might not be feasible if users need redirected printers
Else make sure that when admins RDP, printer redirection is turned off so that drivers are not automatically installed
This was a major issue in 2k3, i havent tested it in 2k8 though
This behavior is related to the change you made in Easy print driver behavior

  • Acrobat Pro XI, Server 2012 r2 Remote Desktop, cannot print until server reboot, No Pages Selected

Ever since we migrated to terminal services (remote desktop) this problem has plagued us.
We are a terminal services environment with 25 users.
Our version of Adobe is 11.0.10
I've believe I have traced the issue to temp files in \users\username\appdata\local\temp\XX
There are [email protected] files that the system locks.
Once those files are written out and the server locks them down the user cannot print .pdf files any longer.
    ALL OTHER APPLICATIONS WORK PERFECTLY!
The only way to clear the situation is to reboot the server (not optimal).
And even then the problem reappears within a day.
I have read many different versions of this problem and tried many different solutions.
I have tried having the users go the advanced tab when printing and choose "print as image"
    FAIL!
I have put a acroct.ini with the following parameters in the windows directory
    [WinFntSvr]
    TTToSysPrintDisabled=1
    T1ToTTDisabled=1
    FAIL!
I have tried to remove Microsoft security updates related to this issue and 3rd party fonts.
    FAIL!
I've tried the "Disable Protected Mode at Startup"
    FAIL!
I have rebuilt our print server with the latest drivers.
    FAIL!
Since we deal with thousands of .pdf files on a daily basis this has become CRITICAL!

  • Redirected printers using Remote Desktop Easy Print driver work only once during session

    Hello all
We are running Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services Sessions hosts with printer redirection allowed using only the Easy Print Driver, we have no other drivers installed on the servers. All client printers are redirected and can print fine, but
only once per session! We have tested with several different client printers and they all work a single time in each session. After that the user needs to log off and then back on again to be able to print once again, but only once. Needless to say, our users
are annoyed. If I look at the c:\windows\system32\spool\printers folder while jobs are printing, but failing, I can see the spool files appearing and disappearing as jobs are spooled. No errors in the event logs accompany the behaviour. Our clients are running
Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. All exhibit the same problem. The error looks a little like what is described here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2925429
While similar, this problem describes a scenario where Easy Print is not used, but XPS is, and since Easy Print is based on XPS and the behaviour is very similar, I am tempted to make a connection.
I have checked all the usual stuff with permissions etc, and no manufacturer provided drivers are present. The problem appears on newly installed systems as well as one that have been running for some time. Restarting the spooler services does not resolve
the problem. Actually I do not think it is related to the spooler service or driver framework at all, but rather is an Easy Print driver issue that is occurring much later in the process, if not I would see some errors in the logs and no jobs would print at
    all.
Anyone ever heard of something like this?
    Thanks
    Morgan

    Hi Morgan,
Based from your description, users can only print once during single RDP session, I suggest you check if this issue also happens locally.
In addition, after the first print attempt, does any other issue exist on the RDP session?
Is the server fully patched? If there are any available driver updates, please also apply them. If there are any third party software installed, try disable/uninstall them to see if the issue persists.
You can also enable print auditing to get more detailed information about this issue.

  • Printing to remote desktop client printer

We have a remote office connecting to a terminal server at head office. The remote office has a network printer. How can we configure the terminal connection to enable printing to the remote network printer at the remote office?

    There are two ways
    1. Site to site vpn (IPSEC) between two sites. And add the printer directly to Terminal Server
    or,
    2. Enable RDP printer on it.  (See below)

  • Remote Desktop Easy Print with Windows 7 Professional host

Is it possible to utilize Easy Print with a Windows 7 Pro client hooking up to a Windows 7 Pro RDP Host?  Easy print doesn't seem to be present in that scenario... but with Ultimate it seems to work...
Trying to print to a Dell 5110cn from my home computer with Win7-Pro to a printer here at work.  Again, this works with a different machine with Win-7-Ultimate but doesn't with Win-7-Professional
    Dell 5110cn <-[network]-> Windows7Pro client(@work) <-[RDP]-> Windows7Pro host(@home)

    Hi,
No, the destination host needs to be Ultimate or Enterprise edition (or Windows Server 2008/2012 with RDSH installed).  What you can do instead is install the exact same printer driver that you have on the client PC onto the host PC.  That way
when you connect it will create a redirected printer using the manufacturer's driver instead of RD Easy Print driver.

  • Remote desktop redirected printer doc

I have a problem in some printers that when i conect to the terminal server 2003, The local printer (of the client's computer) begins to receive many documents redirected and can't print nothing because the local printer has like 3000 documents in the
printer queue, how can i resolve this issue, why windows 2003 don't recognize those printers, like the hp 1015 o hp 1010. I have installed sucesfully other printers like the HP deskjet 5650 and i don't have problem with those, but it has been imposible
with the hp laser jet 1015, what am i doing wrong?,

In our case it's one of the LANDesk software executable called "LocalPrtInfo.exe". See http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-30089 for more information.
To trace the executable which is causing the issue, follow the below steps:
    1. Take RDP to one of the servers on which you are able to constantly reproduce the issue
    2. Start ProcMon on the server with the below filter
          "Path" contains \\tsclient\PRN2 Include
    3. When the issue occurs, this will generate the eventlogs in the ProcMon
    4. You can now see the process which is actually triggering the prints
    5. Get more details on the above process and work with the respective application vendor

  • Remote Desktop local printer redirection problem - Server 2012 Foundation

    Hi,
I am trying to print from Windows Server 2012 Foundation to my local printer hosted on Windows 7.
When I enable local resources in the RDP client, I can see my printers on the server like redirected. All seems like no problem occured. But only print does not work. ;-)
I can see the document name in the queue with Error status.
I tried set up GP with disabling Easy print, the drivers are identical on both machines, event logs are clear.
The server is freshly installed, running only File server role. No Domain controller role is set. No Terminal Service is set (i think in Foundation is it not possible), only allowed RDP.
RDP client is the newest. I have not any problem to print from other servers (WS2003, WS2008R2) using this printer. Everytime is the printer automatically redirected to TS*** port and works.
I spent few hours searching solution with no effect.
    Any idea? Many thanks!

    Hi,
Did you find any error message during this issue?
Please check you have enabled necessary port for printer redirection on server side. You can check “Do not allow client print redirection” is disable under GPO setting. Also the user must have enough permission to print the document. Please check below link

  • Printing quality with Remote desktop technologies

    Hello,
I manage several servers using Remote Desktop Technologies : 2003 R2 Terminal services, 2008 R2 RDS, 32/64 bits...
I upgraded recently to Adobe Reader X and I observe a strange behaviour : when I connect to theses servers with my RDP client, fonts are not the same as displayed, letters are glued without any spaces between them BUT if I connect to the console (HP ILO or vmware console), print quality is fine !!!!
I'm still making comparative tests but I'm stuck.
Any ideas ? I didn't find any thread related to this problem in the forums.
    Kind regards,
    Sebastien

    Hi!
I have the same problem as you!
Other applications works fine with printredirects, but not Adobe Reader X. I have tried to modify the GPO to disable Remote Desktop Easy Print as i seen on Microsoft forums to try on printing errors, but no luck.
I have checked that the printerdriver seems to be the correct one for the local printer, but it does not matter.
Have you found out anything please let me know.
    Best regards

  • PXE Boot a client to connect to a Remote Desktop Session Host/Terminal Server Farm via SCCM 2007

    Hi all,
we've got a bunch of old desktops which are destined for disposal but i was wondering if we couldn't use them as disk-free clients to connect to our Remote Desktop farm. I did some digging and have managed to put together an iso which will boot
the machine into WinPE and then connect to our farm. However, since it's an iso i have to use either a cd or usb for this to work. (This is pretty much what i did: http://www.iammacgyver.com/2011/02/easy-rdp-60-from-winpe-30-simple-boot.html)
What i want to do is to advertise the boot.wim to the client via SCCM so that it boots via PXE and then picks up the WinPE image and connect to the RD farm. I've imported the boot.wim file into SCCM under Boot Images and created an empty Task Sequence
with the boot.wim as its Boot Image. I then advertised this Task Sequence to a collection which contains the old desktop clients. The machine PXE boots ok and loads up WinPE but rather than launch a remote desktop connection, it trundles through the normal
WinPE stages and once it's finished 'Preparing Network Connections' it simply ends and the client reboots.
Is what i'm trying actually possible?
Can anyone tell me why the ISO works yet pushing the boot.wim out as a Boot Image doesn't? I know the boot.wim file (which is the same one present in the ISO) is ok since the client boots into WinPE fine when PXE booted so why doesn't the remote
desktop session conenction launch? How is booting from the ISO different from booting from the PXE boot.wim file?
Slightly long winded problem so many thanks in advance to anyone who can pass some info my way!

It doesn't work because importing it into ConfigMgr injects binaries and the task sequence engine along with the process to launch the engine thus suppressing whatever you've got configured.
Perhaps you could use a pre start command (pre-execution hook in 2007 parlance) to launch your RDP process though.

  • Remote Desktop Client Update 3.8.2 v.11 remains in Software Update queue but, is listed (several times) under "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days.

Remote Desktop Client Update 3.8.2 v.11 remains in Software Update queue but, is listed (several times) under "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days". This is also the case with HP Printer Software update 3.0 and Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.03. Clicking the "update" button for these doesn't appear to install the software, but lists it in the "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days" without removing it from the Software Update queue.

Thank you. I tried that and even gave it a few days to do its thing, but I still get the same results. Remote Desktop, HP Printer, Digital Camera all still appear in "Available Updates", but the same versions appear under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days". BTW, I had to manually install the Safari 8.0.4 update because it also wasn't updating.

  • One note starts on its own when I use Remote Desktop connection

Whenever I use RDC to connect to my home server, One note start and pops up totally on its own on my local computer.
Can anyone explain why, and more importantly how I can stop this behaviour?

After hours of reading through forums and posts similar to this one, and knowing the proposed work-arounds were not going to be accepted by my client that was having the issue, I came to the conclusion that it had to be a print driver or the software that
gets installed along with the print driver on the server that was causing my issue.
I started searching and came across some Epson software that was installed on the remote desktop server when I was trying to get a scale house ticket printer to work as a network printer. The printer was not installed on the server but the software remained
in the add and remove programs list.
I removed the three Epson entries in the add and remove programs list and the problem stopped.
I don't know if this was mentioned above but the behavior I observed was that the print job was going to multiple printers, not just OneNote. I my case if I removed the OneNote pritner I would then get prompted by the Microsoft XPS Document Writer for a
    file location to save to.
I could open the print queue for each of the printers that were getting redirected on my local machine, I would then log in to the remote desktop server that I was having the issue on. I could see the "remote desktop redirected printer doc" get
sent to each printer. If the printer was online it would flash for only a moment and the printer would ignore the job as if nothing had been sent to it. If the printer was offline the job would stay in the queue.
I think this was mentioned above so I will reiterate, don't approach the issue like it is a problem just with OneNote or with a particular driver from a particular manufacturer. We know at the very least that the problem can be caused by Samsung driver/printer
software and by Epson driver/printer software so it stands to reason that there can be other drivers/printer software packages that can cause the same problems.
    I hope this helps!

  • Remote Desktop Session Host - Certificate Warning

    Hi,
I'm setting up a Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop farm, consisting of 3 RDS hosts, a connection broker and a dedicated server with the web access and gateway role. I have created the server collection and the DNS round robin entries, with the name of
my collection pointing to the RDS hosts. When I connect to the farm, the connection broker determines the host with the least amount of active sessions and I will get directed to that host. Also a disconnected session on any host will get reconnected when
I log in, so all this works fine...
signed certificate with its own hostname. I tried to replace the certificate with a wildcard certificate, but then I still have the same problem. I connect to the farm FQDN and the server presents a certificate for '*.domain.com', which apparently still
    doesn't match...
I have an enterprise CA running on our network. Should I request a certificate for the farm FQDN, import it on every RDS host and let RDS use that certificate? The remote desktop gateway will use the wildcard certificate, I guess I don't get any trust issues
as long as the enterprise CA is trusted on the gateway server?

    Hi,
When a client connects to the RD Connection Broker, it provides a cookie (loadbalanceinfo in the .rdp file) that tells the RDCB server the target collection, then the broker redirects to the proper RDSH.  If you use a thin client that does not
know how to send the cookie or you do not specify it in the .rdp file then it will attempt to log on directly to the RDCB as you mention.
One way to obtain a .rdp file with the correct information is to use a non-IE browser to log on to RD Web and then click on the icon to download the .rdp file.  That way you can use this .rdp file to launch the connection from the thin clients without
them needing to use RD Web.
An alternative to the above if you only have a single collection is to specify a default collection in the RDCB server's registry, like this:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\ClusterSettings
    DefaultTsvUrl     REG_SZ     tsv://vmresource.1.<VDI pool ID>
To determine the correct value for DefaultTsvUrl you can download the .rdp file from RDWeb as I mentioned above and edit the file in Notepad.
In regards to the certificate the easiest way is to obtain a wildcard certificate from a trusted third-party such as GoDaddy, VeriSign, Thawte, etc. and use that for all purposes of your RDS deployment. As you said you do not have an easy way to distribute
    a trusted cert.
If you do not need the RD Gateway then you can remove it.  I would leave RD Web Access installed since this is a core part of RDS, even though you do not plan to have clients use the web site.
