Remote Desktop File Access
I'm trying to access my files from remote desktop, and set up a shortcut from my mac side. I'd like to be able to open word documents on the mac side. I can access them just fine on the windows side, but they'll only open in PC format. What I'd like to do is create a shortcut on the mac side to a specific folder from the shared drive on remote desktop. Any advice would be appreciated!
You should always ask licensing questions of a trained Microsoft licensing specialist.

happy.
RDS CALs are only for RDS. Windows CALs are needed for accessing any service on a Windows Server host. So any implementation using RDS requires both Windows CALs and RDS CALs.

Audio Redirection and Remote Desktop Web Access
I recently deployed a 2012r2 Remote Desktop solution. I have a collection published for remote desktop sessions and have configured it to allow all redirection shown in the interface. However when users connect through Web Access, they do not get audio recording
redirection.
Is there a way to enable this through Remote Desktop Web Access?Hi,
Glad to hear that it is up now. Please keep us informed when the issue is resolved.

Using remote desktop web access (RDWEB) with remoteapps and a traditional remote desktop
I configured windows 2012 r2 remote desktop services and remote desktop web access (rdweb) and was able to click the icon on the rdweb page to log on to a remote desktop session. When I published a remoteapp program, the remote desktop icon went away. How
do I get it back? Do I need to publish remote desktop as a remoteapp so users can both use remote apps and log on to a traditional remote desktop session?
thanks in advance for the helpHi,
You can just publish RDC as RemoteApp and then can connect to the desired remote desktop connection. You can check the below snap.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

The computer is connecting to a 2012 Server hosted on Microsoft's Azure platform. Trying to access applications hosted by this server with Remote Desktop Web services. The computer can RDP using just the mstsc.exe to other computers and to the server with
no problem.
The computer presents the following msg box Body: Remote Desktop Connection has stopped working. I have tried the following to resolve this and narrow the scope:
-Created a new user account for the computer with admin rights, rebooted and logged in as the new user.
-Tried a different user account for the portal, that does work. The user does not show up as connected.
-All MS updates were loaded.
-Added these changes to the registry to keep alive the connection: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Gateway\Transports\Rpc-----HttpKeepAliveTimeout=dword:00000001

Windows 2008 R2 + Remote Desktop Web Access + Single Sign-On + 2 servers
Hi
First sorry for my English. I have got problem with run SSO with RDWeb. I configured everything follow this instructions: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2009/08/11/introducing-web-single-sign-on-for-remoteapp-and-desktop-connections.aspx
and http://blogs.technet.com/b/mrsnrub/archive/2010/03/22/remote-desktop-services-websso.aspx. After logon to RDWeb web page I click application icon. Then I see dialog box for credentials - SSO not working.
I have got 2 servers with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard:
Server OL-AP1 with role Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) and certificate for digital sign RemoteApps
Server OL-AP04 with ONLY Remote Desktop Web Access (RD Web) with certificate for https
Client PC: Windows 7 SP1 with installing certificate for OL-AP01 witch I used for digital sign RemoteApps
All certificates created by enterprise domain CA - Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS)Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Do you have RD Gateway setup in your environment?
Have you configure RD Connection Broker and set the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the RD Connection Broker server in case of RD Connection Broker mode. In RD Session mode, it is set to the FQDN of the RD Web Access server.
Client operating systems must trust the certificate with which the RemoteApp programs are signed. Suggest to install RDP 8.1 for client OS.
Do you have a trusted certificate with a matching name configured on your RDSH server in RD Session Host Configuration? (Means cert must match the name that clients use to connect to it for running the RemoteApp).
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

Remote Desktop Web Access Administration not in menu
I am trying to figure out why RemoteApp is working and Remote Desktop connection isn't on my very simple installation. One thing I came across is that something seems to be missing from my Remote Desktop Services menu. According to the TechNet article at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee891009(WS.10).aspx
if I should be able to access RD Web administration by following these instructions:
On the RD Web Access server, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Web Access Administration.
But when I go there I find that there is no Remote Desktop Web Access Administration. Any ideas on why it doesn't exist?Yes, that's the OS I'm using. Those settings are set properly as far as I know. Since this is all on one server, the DC (very small office that can't justify second server), I'm not using an RD Connection Broker so it's set to the RemoteApp sources and
the Source name is the internal FQDN of the server. servername.domain.local. The weird thing is that when I log in via RD Web the RemoteApps Programs tab has a Remote Desktop icon that successfully connects me to the server but the Remote Desktop tab always
fails, telling me it can't connect to the computer. -

Remote Desktop/Access shared files over PPTP VPN
Hello,
I just bought the RV180W so I can connect to my office computer from anywhere as a VPN client. The two things I need to do while I am connected as a VPN client is to be able to access my files on my office desktop and be able to remote desktop to it as well. I have Win7 on all of my computers. Ideally, I would like to do that over PPTP VPN connection but if that is not possible I can try Cisco QuickVPN software.
I enabled PPTP on my router and created a user account. I was also able to successfully establish the connection remotely. While I was connected as a PPTP VPN client, I was able to access the Internet and my router setup page which is telling me that the connection is good. However, I was not able to either discover my office PC under my network tab in Win7 nor I was able to remote desktop. I keep my office PC on all the time and it never go to sleep. I did not create any connection policy but maybe this is the problem. Please let me know if you know of a solution.
Thanks!Hi David,
Thank you for the response.
I was able to access the router configuration using the local IP address (in my case 192.168.1.1). I don't think I would have been able to access it using the public IP address since I have the router remote management feature disabled.
Now after reading your email, I was finally able to remote desktop and access shared files through a PPTP VPN connection. Here is what I did:
1- I separted the PPTP VPN IP address range from my DHCP range (in my case, PPTP VPN range is 192.168.1.200 to 210 and my DHCP range is from 192.168.1.100 to 199)
2- I assigned my office desktop PC that I am trying to remote desktop to a fixed IP address (192.168.1.20)
3- For remote desktop, I had to type the IP address (192.168.1.20). Typing the PC name (officepc) or searching for was not working.
4- For shared files, I had to map a network drive as //192.168.1.20/My Pictures for example. I couldn't find my PC when searched for it under Network.
After doing all that, I was able to do kinda what I wanted. Ideally, I would have liked to avoid using fixed IP addresses and be able to access computers by their name and see them under the Network tab. Is their a way to do this? I noticed that RV220W offers SSL VPN, would that help me?
I would appreciate it if you could answer my last two questions.
Thanks!

Remote Desktop and remote USB scanner
Hello, We currently use NeatWorks to scan our company receipts and docs. Several of our employees access the NeatWorks database remotely, via a locally installed NeatWorks application, the connection we use to the file is the simple Finder 'Connect to Server'. Because NeatWorks is not networkable, we access it one at a time.
The problem is the Neatworks database is huge, it can take 20 minutes to load remotely.
Our solution to this would be to use Remote Desktop to access our server that has the application and database for a quick load. The problem is scanning.
Can Remote Desktop connect to the users local USB scanner so that the scans go directly to the remote database? If not, is there any other elegant solution to this remote scan problem?
We were hoping to find a networkable program to replace NeatWorks that wouldn't load the entire database, just an index perhaps.
Thanks a million for any input!
JohnCan the NeatWorks application on the server, see, connect to the USB scanner device on the user end.
That would not be a function of Apple Remote Desktop. The NeatWorks software would need to have code to access a remote scanner, either natively or using the Scanner Sharing feature of Mac OS X 10.6 (if that will support the USB scanner you're using). -
Users cannot log into Remote Desktop after 3/11/2015 update!
I have a simple network where users can log into a Windows SBS 2008 server with Remote Desktop to access various applications. This worked quite smoothly until this morning, after the updates of last evening. (3/11/2015)
When users tried to log into the Remote Desktop this morning their credentials were rejected, as if their username and/or password were incorrect. Even I (as the administrator) could not log in remotely. Finally I connected a monitor and keyboard
directly to the server and was able to log in without an issue. After logging in directly I was able to connect through remote desktop.
This method worked for my other users as well - after I logged them in directly they were able to use remote desktop no problem.
The trouble is that I have a couple dozen users, and this is an issue that should not be occurring. What happened in the last update to cause remote desktop to reject users credentials? Why does it only work after the user logs in directly?
And most importantly, how do I fix this?
A few notes:
Simply browsing for files on the server also asks for the user's name and password, and this works as well. This is only a remote desktop issue.
I have already checked to make sure the domain was correct. It was.
I have already checked to make sure the usernames and passwords were correct. They were.
I have already checked to make sure this was not a unique issue for a single (or limited number) of users. This issue effected
all users all the network.
Thank you very much for your help,
DustinI'm curious here... If the server is rebooted, does it put the RDS users back into a "credentials failed" situation? If so, could you please have them log in with credentials:
domain.local\username (I suspect they may be currently using domain\username)
and see if that fixes the RDS problem without having to first log into the server directly.
The ".local" may be ".lan" or ".somethingelse" depending on how you initially configured your domain, but the default for SBS 2008 is ".local"
Merv Porter
=========================
That's a good question - the server will auto-reboot this evening and I'll test again in the morning.
You are correct that we've been using domain\username. I tried domain.local\username (which is the way we've set up), and that did not work either.
I'll let you know how things turn out tomorrow morning. I don't want to mess with my users anymore today. :P

I have Remote Desktop installed, not by me,can't find and delete it
There are constant references in my logs to the Remote Desktop app. being used on my laptop. I didn't install it. I've done several reinstalls, but it comes back and wreaks havoc. I've lost a scholarship, several files, programs altered, settings altered. Any ideas on how to fix this??
Thanks, KMI lost the scholarship from pages refreshing during end of semester exams. Pop up windows, mispelled telling me I don't have authority to access this site.Applications, like iPhoto being altered and files and pictures I've kept documenting my entire ordeal with this external interference on my computer. I can't hook up my 2nd airport express because of the interference.I try to reset my Airport express to factory settings,it wouldn't let me do it,even after physically resetting the router, finally after 4 days of no internet service, tried to program my AE offline, and did it. Then the phone rang.It was a computer tone, directly in the middle of resetting my router. The iTunes, which I have turned off, will be turned on remotely on my router and Leonard Skynard music will play thru my speakers for 4 hours.I can give you a thousand examples. How specific do you want me to be? What exactly are you asking me? My Antivirus will be updated and modified overnight, while it's turned off by me,to not update and never scan until I run it directly. This will happen while my laptop is off and my modem and router are unplugged and off. I have Apple Remote Desktop somehow accessing my computer,it started when the 7.4.2 Airport Express firmware update came. I remember I couldn't get the firmware to install for over a month after the update came out in june,'09. Thankyou KM

OSX Remote Desktop and RDGateway Remote Resources
Is it possible or planned to support RDGateway for published Remote Resources, using Microsoft Remote Desktop for OSX?
thanksHi,
I have just confirmed with the product group, RD Gateway is supported for Remote Resources. It does not have dedicated settings for Remote Resources.
Furthermore, the feed server (RDWeb) must be reachable by the client. If a GW is needed then the administrator must have configured the published apps to use one.
