Remote desktop full screen mode not going full screen

Hi,
Running Windows 7 RTM x64 on both my PC at home and my workstation at work.
My PC at home has a square monitor and my work PC has a widescreen monitor.
I used webapps (citrix) from home to get into work environment then remoted to my workstation.
Since doing that, when I am physically at the workstation (at work), I can no longer remote desktop to servers in full screen mode.  Instead, it does a smaller window with "full screen settings".  Basically the full screen remote desktop is about 3/4 size of the monitor, not 100%.
Any help appreciated.
-thanks

I  have this problem too ... On Windows 7.
Dell XPS14 laptop ... No Pause Key ... No Break Key... (ctrl +alt + fn + F12) doesn't work.
The thing that bugs me most is ..... What's
changed and WHY?
I've been using remote desktop for years and maximizing always used to send it to full screen.
Now suddenly I can't go to full screen without exiting and resetting the screen size with the slide bar in the options!
WHY
Seems this has been broken in Windows 7. It still works fine as it used to on my old M65 running Vista.
Why has
this been broken in Windows 7? How come no one at MS noticed?
The marked answer is not acceptable. Sure it works when you initially open the connection but if
you minimize or restore the window the problem comes back as before.
Hi, I'm on a Dell Inspiron N5010 and for me, the winning combination was Ctrl-Alt-Fn-F6. Toggles full screen and windowed screen.

Apple Remote Desktop 3 screen sharing performance
Apple should licence citrix terminal technology to improve screen sharing experience and performance over low bandwidth connections like the internet.
ARD works very nice on LANs. But the screen sharing performance for remote offices really has to be improved. Look at Citrix and MS Terminal Server - these products work very snappy over low bandwidth connections like 3G UMTS or Cable, DSL.
Also adding the terminal server technology (multi user over network) to the OS would be great. Not only redirect the hole client screen - map a GUI user session over the network for an admin while the user on the client has his own usual local session.
The curtain mode is good beginning.
    Kind regards,
    Bjoern

    Hi,
I mean that MS Terminal Server is a completely different beast, because you don't transfer the whole bitmap here as VNC or ARD does.

  • The Remote Desktop Client software is not active

    Hello
I just downloaded ARD from the App store. I installed ARD Client 3.4 on the Client machines. Activated the machines in Sharing. All Users with everything checked except for "Show when being observed"
I am able to Observe, Control, Curtain and Lock.
I just tried to start a chat with a client and got the following error:
Unable to Chat with “WebVantage’s iMac”. The Remote Desktop Client software is not active.
I try to send a Message and get the following error:
This task will fail. This task is not supported on “WebVantage’s iMac”.
...with the choices Continue or Go Back
Try to run reports and it just seems to go on forever and says "Waiting for report data."
Many of the other choices won't work either, like Sleep, Wake, etc.
    Am I missing something?
Thank you, in advance, for your time.
    Cooch

WOW! It's been over a month and not one reply? First time this ever happened.
I am finding that I cannot lock the other Macs now. I get:
"This task will fail. This task is not supported on “XXXXX’s iMac”."
    Anyone?

  • WRVS4400N Remote desktop on Vista does not work

I have a WRVS4400N and all firmware, software is up to date and current.  I can connect using remote desktop on a laptop with Windows XP Pro but cannot connect with a laptop using Vista Ultimate.  I have used the new Quick VPN connect software, but when I try and use the remote desktop connection, it does not connect.
Is there a setting that is different in vista than windows XP that I need to change on the laptop or is it someting in the firewall in the WRVS4400N?

if your RDP is already working on your windows XP computer then there are no settings that needs to be changed on the linksys router, you have to double check the settings of your RDP application on your vista computer, possible that it is using a different port number

The Remote Desktop Administrator software must be upgraded on this computer.
This is the message I have when I installed ARD 3.0 on a new Imac running leopard with no ARD installed previously when I opened up ARD for first time - doesn't let me go any further.
Have I missed something here and made a stupid install mistake??
    Many thanks

Please search the discussions before posting as this question has been asked and answered more than once.
If this is ARD 3.x, try this:
    • Insert your ARD CD
    • Open in Finder
    • Right click on the Remote Desktop.mpkg and show contents
    • Navigate to contents/installers
    • Drag the RemoteDesktopAdmin.pkg file onto the workstation and install
    • Run Software Update
    • Upgrade to 3.1 admin
Otherwise, you'll have to completely uninstall ARD and then reinstall it. Follow these instructions for the uninstall:

  • Remote Desktop Connection Solution, VPC NOT an option

I downloaded Remote Desktop Connection yesterday B/C I wanted to be able to do work on my mac, I have virtual PC with WINXP but it was way to slooow.
I do not want to play games, I play games on my compaq laptop that's in a full sized docking station.
So I was looking and reading at this software (RDC) and it sounded like a viable option, My laptop has a 14" monitor but the iMac is a 17".
so I downloaded it and set it up, BTW my connection is iMac to Laptop docking station I used a "Crossover Cable".
Set the IP address and I have (Sorry to say) windows on my MAC for nuthing!
It works great ALOT faster than VPC (since it does not have to emulate a Intel CPU).
And the Laptop monitor goes to sleep after 1 minute so now I can have the best of both worlds!

I'm not quite sure why you posted this.
You marked your post as a question... but I can't find one.
Do you have a question or was this somewhat of an "informational" post?

  • Remote desktop and screen sharing with RMI

Iam developing an application for screen sharing and remote desktop
the problem is a performance problem
in the screen sharing application server screen is captured and the image is sent to all connected clients through rmi connection
I used JPEGImageEncoder to compress the image and convert it to array of bytes
then zipped the resulted array using deflater.
the result is sent through rmi connection
    the performance is so poor
i tried JMF but the performance is worse
i am thinking of a way to send the server screen only if it is changed but i don't know how
anyone could help me to enhance it with acceptable quality for the image
    thanks

As you said, you need to only send the changes over the line.
Java can not tell you what has changed, so you need to either write some JNI, or do a check on the current image, with the last image. (this would eat quite a bit of CPU time on the server).
It might be worth looking at the source for VNC, and other simler products.
The simpliest solution would be to split the image into blocks of x by y pixels, then do a pixel-by-pixel check on that block, and only send the block if it has changed.
Next thing to think about is scrapping RMI, and using raw sockets. RMI has a fair sized overhead.
Zipping a JPEG is unlikely to have any effect. A JPEG is already compressed.
You might want to look at a lossless compression format, like PNG, as the JPEG will have articles. This might be acceptable. If so, changing the compression ratio of the JPEG might be an option.
Finally, the bottle neck might be the call to Robot.createScreenCapture. This is not the fastest method.

  • What has Remote desktop over Screen sharing?

I´m was wondering to get Remote Desktop but after Leopard I´m not sure. What has Remote Desktop over Leopards screen sharing ability? I cant see that I would need the other stuff...
    Message was edited by: aglifribbason

If all you're interested in is sharing screens, then unless you need to be able to see multiple screens at once, I doubt that ARD would give you anything over the built-in screen sharing in Leopard.

  • Remote Desktop Virtualization Host does not have a license server

I'm receiving an error when attempting to connect to a virtual desktop that is part of a virtual desktop collection. The server that hosts the virtual desktop collection also hosts a session host collection and the RD licensing server. The event log of the
server issues event 1156 "The Remote Desktop Virtualization Host server does not have a Remote Desktop license server specified. To specify a license server for the Remote Desktop Virtualization Host server, use the RDS module for Windows PowerShell."
The RD Licensing Manager indicates that volume licenses have been installed and are available as seen below. The RD Licensing Diagnoser indicates no issues.
I found a MS blog entry for Windows 2008 R2 that indicates the following: "Because there is no GUI interface for specifying licensing configuration on an RD Virtualization Host server, support has been provided in Windows PowerShell to enable this scenario.
As a result, a VDI administrator who does not want the (RemoteFX-enabled) RD Virtualization Host server’s licensing settings to be
centrally managed (from the RD Connection Broker server) can manually configure these settings on the RD Virtualization Host server(s) in the VDI deployment by using the following Windows PowerShell cmdlets:", but I'm not sure if this applies to Windows
    2012 as well.
    Thanks.

    Hi Dale,
Based on my research, please try to use this PowerShell command to set the RD licensing server.
    Set-RDLicenseConfiguration -LicenseServer
    Server FQDN -Mode PerUser
    Set-RDLicenseConfiguration
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj215465.aspx
Also, please note that the RDVH server must be a member of a VDI collection.
    Hope this helps.

  • Remote Desktop Connection on PowerBook, not x86 iMac

My office uses SBS2003 with VPN enabled.
Without VPN, on my PowerBook & the intel-iMac, I can "Remote Desktop Connection" into the server, then subsequently into a workstation through the server.
With the VPN connected, I can use RDC to connect directly to my workstation (say, unit01).
With VPN connected, the iMac can't connect directly to the workstation, yet it can still go through the server to the workstation as usual.
I'm suspecting this is an issue with Rosetta emulating Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection and not allowing the domain name to be recognized through the VPN.
Both computers are using the exact same settings for the VPN and attempting to use RDC exactly the same.

i've been using just the netbios name, simply because it works on my powerbook. I still don't understand why it wouldn't work on this intel-mac.
I was mainly following this guide:

  • Hi I am facing issue with Remote Desktop Licensing, it is not showing the original available licenses decreasing on the RD Licensing server

When i added our license servers to one of the clients for RDS, and we three log in, i am seeing issued shows three now but i am still not seeing the total license count decreasing as we have licenses on per Device basis and have 200 licenses for
our 2012 server. In review configuration, everything is green.
Why am i not seeing the decrease and why is there a built-in overuse option coming up and retail purchase count not going down?
i wanted to paste an image but it says:

    Hi,
    1. What version is your RDSH server?  Is it 2012/2012 R2 or 2008 R2 or something else?
    2. If your RDSH is 2012/2012 R2, have you set the licensing mode to Per Device in RDS Deployment Properties?  In addition, is the RDSH server part of a collection?
    3. If your RDSH is 2008 R2, did you set the licensing mode to Per Device in RD Session Host Configuration (tsconfig.msc) or via group policy?
    4. If you could post a ling to the screenshot on one of the image sharing sites we could view it from there.  If not it would be helpful if you could provide the precise name of the pool (you need to make the column wider in RD Licensing) that the RDS
CALs are being issued from as well as the precise name of the pool for your purchased RDS CALs.  The count columns would be helpful as well.
    5. In the Event Viewer\ Applications and Services Logs\ Microsoft\ Windows\ TerminalServices-Licensing log on your RD Licensing server there should be events when licenses are issued.  Please provide the event id and precise text of these events.
    Thanks.

  • Remote Desktop Web Access Administration not in menu

I am trying to figure out why RemoteApp is working and Remote Desktop connection isn't on my very simple installation. One thing I came across is that something seems to be missing from my Remote Desktop Services menu. According to the TechNet article at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee891009(WS.10).aspx
if I should be able to access RD Web administration by following these instructions:
On the RD Web Access server, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Web Access Administration.
But when I go there I find that there is no Remote Desktop Web Access Administration. Any ideas on why it doesn't exist?

Yes, that's the OS I'm using. Those settings are set properly as far as I know. Since this is all on one server, the DC (very small office that can't justify second server), I'm not using an RD Connection Broker so it's set to the RemoteApp sources and
the Source name is the internal FQDN of the server. servername.domain.local. The weird thing is that when I log in via RD Web the RemoteApps Programs tab has a Remote Desktop icon that successfully connects me to the server but the Remote Desktop tab always
fails, telling me it can't connect to the computer.

  • Windows 2012 Remote desktop session host server not detecting RD licensing server

    Hi,
We have a customer server which is Windows 2012. We installed RDS session host server role and configured it to use RD licensing server as per the
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839?wa=wsignin1.0
After configuring, when I open RD license diagonser tool, it says, RD license server is not available. Also shows, credential not available. When I enter the credential by clicking, provide credentials, it does not get applied. I see no event logs related
to RD service. However, I see the below event log which points to RD licensing server.
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer <RD license server> using any of the configured protocols; requested by PID     273c (C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe).
Please help in fixing the issue.
    Thanks,
    Umesh

    Hi Umesh,
    Thanks for your comment.
During your configuration, have you specified RD License server for RDSH to use?
You can also specify a license server for the RD Session Host server to use by applying the Group Policy under below path.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing
Use the specified Remote Desktop license servers – Provide the FQDN of the license servers to use
Also this setting can be specified by below method.
To configure the license server on RDSH/RDVH:
    $obj = gwmi -namespace "Root/CIMV2/TerminalServices" Win32_TerminalServiceSetting
    $obj.SetSpecifiedLicenseServerList("License.contoso.com")
Note “License” is the name of the License Server in the environment
To verify the license server configuration on RDSH/RDVH:
    $obj = gwmi -namespace "Root/CIMV2/TerminalServices" Win32_TerminalServiceSetting
    $obj.GetSpecifiedLicenseServerList()
    More information.
