Remote desktop local drives not showing

Hi,
When I connect to a client server using Remote Desktop connection, I cannot see my local drive letters under client's my computer. I have checked the "Disk Drives" under Local Resources tab. The client sever has Windows 2003.
Please let me know why I cannot see my local drive letters.
Thanks.

Using Benny's advice, here's how I fixed it for me:
I had, of course, set the property in my local MSTSC properties (Show options > Local Resources tab > Local devices and resources > "More" button > Drives).
After logging into the Terminal Server and seeing my local drives not there (hence bringing me to this thread), I then went to "Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration", as it is called on my Win2008 server, as suggested.
When it came up, there is a "Connections" section with an "RDP-Tcp" icon.  I right-clicked this and selected Properties.  This brings up a dialog.
Selected "Sessions" tab.  Unchecked "Override user settings", selected OK, then selected the "Refresh" under the "RD Session Host Configuration" sidebar.  I could then see my drives under my Computer icon on the Start Menu.  Perhaps the Sessions
bit and Refresh action I did were coincidental, since I think the Sessions setting pertains more to timeouts than actual connection properties like drives, but this got me working.

  • USB External drive not showing in Finder, or on Desktop

I have two USB external drives from the same manufacturer. One is for regular storage, the second is for Time Machine and movies.
The first one shows everywhere, on the desktop, in finder and in Disk Utility.
The second drive shows in Disk Utility only. However, it is functioning fine with Time Machine. So it is mounted. I have tried several repairs, and it reports no fault found. So it is certainly functioning correctly, but a setting or error in the operating system is not allowing it to be viewed in finder, or on the desktop.
    Any suggestions.

Correction: Title should be Firewire External drive not showing in Finder, or on Desktop.

My creative cloud desktop app does not show the programmes installed so I cant update lightroom or any other programme, have unistalled and reinstalled but no change

    Hi Roni-
If you updated the desktop installer and the screen is blank: try this:
    Rename the opm.db file.
Close the Creative Cloud application if it's running.
    Navigate to the OOBE folder.
    Windows: [System drive]:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
    Mac OS: /User/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE folder
Rename the opm.db file to opm_old.db

  • My external hard drive not showing up

    Hello,
My external hard drive is not showing up on my desktop. I went to finder & preferences>general and made sure I checked "show these items" and checked hard drives. I even unchecked it because I have 2 other external hard drives. When I checked the hard drive box the other 2 hard drives appeared but the third hard drive did not. The hard drive not showing up on my desk top does show up when I double click my system hard drive & can be opened from there, but I want to see it on my desk top. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ls -@Oaen /V* | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.

  • Remote desktop client software not active

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm a bit bewildered by this errormessage (and I couldn't get a hit when I searched for it) when I try to drag a file from the xserv to the macbook pro desktop, remote desktop client software not active.
The macbook has the ard server and connects to the xserv ppc. It connects over the internet.
The xserv is behind a iptables fw and I have forwarded 3283 tcp/udp plus 5900 udp/tcp to the server. Have I forgotten a port ?
    I've read through http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm as well as http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070302234400232&query=vnc%2Bsimpl e%2Bset%2Bup
and tried to find out more from the discsussions here.
The macbook pro sits behind an airport which is hooked into the dsl modem. Do I need to configure port forward in the airport as well.
Connecting to the xserv and working on it works great but the copy file transfer fails.

Hi there I took new try at this and this is what finally solved it for me.
The earlier answer I got was very good advise but I had already done that bit, actually I might have overdone it a bit I had checked all the boxes under the useraccount on sharing.
    Back to business.
Firewalling. I realised I need to open and portforward at both locations and remeber it's booth tcp and udp.
So at the xserve location I needed to forward 3283 and 5900 both tcp and udp from outside to the IPnumber of the xserve.
At home with my macbook I needed to do the same.
However this did not solve it, I had forgotten one software on the macbook. On the xserve I had installed ARD upgraded it to 3.1 AND installed the upgrade for ARD 3.1 client. The client part I had forgotten at home. So once my ARD and ARD client software matched I could connect to the xserve and drag and drop files booth ways.
ARD wasn't running on the xserve I just had it installed along with the client software.
So portforwarding in firewalls and the same software and versions in all locations seems to have solved it for me.
A small note enabling/disabling the firewall in macbookpro did nothing for me since when enabled ARD rules were in place and active so it still worked.
I hope I made some sense.

  • Drive Not Showing In Startup Disk

I have re setup my MacBook Pro, all seems well apart from this little problem. My Mac OS X Partition or Windows Partition shows in startup Disk.
Both Operating Systems do startup fine though.
I have my disk partitioned like this
    Free Space
    Windows 7
    Mac OS X
Its setup in this way so i can use TrueCypt for the Windows side.
Does anyone know how to correct this please?
You can use this link to view a screenshot

    Thanks

if you try to verify the disk, dose it report any errors? (open disk utility, click on the Macintosh HD, click on the repair tab, click verify disk.)
If you option boot, dose the computer list both Boot Volumes?
Have you tried blessing the mac hard drive?
ie: "sudo bless -folder /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/System/Library/CoreServices -bootinfo"
(note the above bless command blesses the Hard Drive with the name "Macintosh HD", if you mac volume has a different name, change to match your hard drive's name.)

  • Why is my External Hard Drive not showing in Aperture 3.6 Import?

Why is my External Hard Drive not showing in Aperture 3.6 Import?

Only my computer hard drive is and I want to import from an external drive.  I have always been able to until I updated to Aperture 3.6 and Yosemite.
I had the same problem. On the folders on the drive with the Aperture library did show in the Import panel. After I clicked the computer icon in the upper left corner of the Import panel, suddenly all drives appeared.
You can also try to drag the folder you want to import into the Import panel, to point the file chooser to the drive.

  • Why does Local Folders not show up when I install Thunderbird on certain computers?

I've installed Thunderbird on my computer and it looks normal with "Local Folders" showing up in the left pane. I didn't add an email account, I just installed Thunderbird and an add-on called ImportExport tool and left it with only Local Folders. But when I try to do the same thing and install it on someone else's computer to help them import an .mbox file, when I install Thunderbird on their computer, "Local Folders" is not there. The left pane is just completely blank. And it looks like I can't import an .mbox file without it being there. I tried installing it on another laptop too and the same thing happened with no Local Folders. Why is "Local Folders" not showing up for these other two computers?

I circumvented the problem by copying the c:\users\username\appdata\local\thunderbird folder and the c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\thunderbird folder from my working PC to the nonworking computers, and Local Folders appeared in Thunderbird on those computers. It seems like these files aren't being generated properly on installation.
I tried uninstalling Thunderbird from my working PC and reinstalling it again to see what would happen (after also deleting those two appdata folders so that fresh ones would be created), and this time Local Folders did not appear on my PC as well. I don't think I did anything different during installation either. So I'm not sure why the Local Folders are no longer being generated at installation.

  • USB drives not showing on desktop

    Hi there,
Whenever I insert a device into my usb ports (camera, thumb drive, iPod) it no longer shows up on my desktop. Though the device is still recognized by iTunes, iPhoto, and in disk utility. I have also made sure the boxes are checked in the Finder properties.
Any help would be appreciated, I would like to have these items show on the desktop again.

    Rod Hagen wrote:
Glenn, we must have four aberrant iPods and several aberrant cameras, then , or four aberrant Macs running Snow Leopard.
Then you have activated "disk use" in iTunes. Otherwise they would not be showing up.
The iPods and at least one of our cameras ( an Olympus with an XD card) all show up on the desktop on all four computers. The SD card in a Panasonic DV camera also appears (I'll have to recheck the Canons when the owners wake up!)
Ahhh. SD cards are another matter and will show up with the correct settings in the Finder Prefs. But simply connecting a camera does not automatically mean it will show up. If on the other hand the user has left an SD card in the camera, then in most cases, if the correct Finder Prefs have been set, then the cad will show up on the desktop - but NOT the camera. Take the card out. The camera will likely not show up even if it has internal memory. Cheers!
    Cheers and Merry Christmas.

  • Hard drive not showing up on desktop

My hard drive is not showing up on desktop. Hardisc repair says drive is not formatted yet would not format drive or failed after initial attempt. I did put the same drive into USB external case and then it showed up on desktop. I then was able to format disc and install OS 9.2 onto disc but when I reinserted disc into Lombard (Powerbook G3 M5343) it was back to not appearing and identifying disc as not formatted.
When I turn on -getting a prompt that says built in memory test says there is something wrong with memory cashe could this have something to do with problem?
I don't think there is a problem with Motherboard as I just replaced it. I also don't think it is the drive cable as it identifies drive and also I have a "spare-parts" Lombard with a defective motherboard and I tried attaching drive with that drive cable and still had the same problem. Unless both drive ribbons are defective -I assume not...but maybe that could be the problem?
    Any ideas?

    Richard,
You do have a failure of the backside L2 cache, a common problem on the Lombard. This memory is soldered to the microprocessor card and the only fix is a replacement card.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=51159
I don't know if the failed L2 cache memory would cause a problem with the HD on the internal IDE bus controller; it apparently does not via the USB bus.
Generally, users who have the failed L2 cache do not have a successful startup unless they reset the power manager. Try this: With the Lombard turned off, reset the power manager and see if it will start up to the internal HD. If no success, shut down, insert your OS 9.2 CD, reset the power manager, and see if the HD appears on the desktop after booting to the CD.

  • External hard drive not showing up on desktop or in finder

I just upgraded to 10.5 and then to 10.5.2 and now I'm not able to use my new Maxtor external HD. I don't see the icon on the desktop, it doesn't show up in the in the sidebar of the finder window, and sometime it does/doesn't show up in disk utilities. The HD was formatted in disk utility and worked originally (last week) but then the next day it wouldn't show up. Since then nothing...
    Any suggestions??

    I have similar problem...
Maxtor One Touch External HD 300GB
HD first mounted and showed 276GB in finder... restarted for the latest security update and when HD mounted after restart, HD showed 276GB...
when I went to access HD an error popped up, telling me to backup my data and reformat drive as soon as possible...? weird yes!
In turn I did reformat it seeing as I didn't have anything on it. When HD mounted after that it showed 128GB!!!!?? Where the **** did my space go ? The HD seemed to work fine before, but I get this error and now I have lost space...
I'm not 100% sure that the security update was the culprit or just bad timing.?.?
Anyways to get my space back?

  • External drive not showing up on desktop

I have an external hard drive (2T Newertech ministack). We had a power outage the other day. Even though the drive is on it no longer appears on the desktop. I went to Disk Utility and see if it could be repaired but the drive is not even showing up there. Does this mean the ministack was fried by the outage or is there another way I can save it? And yes, the finder preferences are on for external drives to show up on desktop.

It's not likely it would be fried if it's connected to a UPS because then it would not lose power and crash. Have you tried disconnecting the device from the computer, rebooting the computer, then reconnecting the device?
Since you have another Mac try directly connecting the device to it and using Disk Utility to repair the drive. Then give it a try on the other computer.

  • External Hard Drive not showing on desktop

    Hi,
I'm using a macbook pro, 15", and have been using it with my external hard drive for the past 2 months.
This afternoon, I was using the external, where i have all my music and photos stored, and it was working fine. I left the computer on sleep for about 2 hours (all programs that have stuff on the external I made sure to quit before), and when I got back the "icon" for the back up disk was slightly more "invisible" on my desktop and time machine informed me that the latest back up failed. When I tried to eject it (nothing on the disk was being used) it said it couldnt be ejected because the disk was in use.
I tried to eject again, same thing, so I restarted the computer. When I restarted the computer the external harddrive icon did not show up on my desk top. I tried pulling it out and plugging it in a few times, the disk will start up, but not load onto my desk top.
    HELP!!!
the external hard drive is a Western Digital "my Passport"
    Thank you!

if I repair the disk, will i lose everything on it?
Running Disk Repair will not harm your data,  the idea is to repair  and make it functional again.
If successful I would make a back up of that data because you may be skating on thin ice.

  • USB thumb drives not showing up on desktop.

After updating to 10.4.7 last week, when I insert a USB drive it does not show up on the desktop or in the finder. When I open System profiler and click on USB it shows up there but I have no way to mount the drives.
Is this something that happened to anyone else or am I alone in this?
When I plug in a USB mouse into the ports it works fine so the USB is working, just not mounting the drives. I am able to mount the drives in other macs I have here.
    Dave

You might check your Finder preferences and make sure
you're allowing removeable to appear on the Desktop.
Nope checked that and the boxes are all checked.
Tried plugging my iPod in using the USB cable and still does not show up. Does not even show up in iTunes.
Also tried plugging in a firewire drive and that does not mount either. And the iPod also does not mount using firewire.
    This is really getting frustrating!!!
Weird thing is it shows up under firewire & USB in system profiler.
