Remote desktop on MacBook Air

I have a Linksys 320 Router. I have connected a IMAC and MacBook Air via WIFI. I try to set up remote desktop from IMAC against MacBook Air.
In IMAC I can see the AIR. I have configured the AIR to enable desktop sharing. But the connection never sets up. It fails.
Which ports do I need to configure in my router from Linksys in port forwarding? Or have I missed anothr settings?

  • Using Microsoft Remote Desktop on MacBook Air using OS Yosemite 10.10.2

    Hi,
I have recently acquired a MacBook and have been trying to use Microsoft Remote Desktop software to open a cloud based server called Universal anywhere.
It has been working fine but now keeps crashing at various points, like when I type in the server name, it opens up using MRD, I enter my username and password and it comes up saying 'Microsoft Remote Desktop closed unexpectedly'. It will sometimes let me
go a bit further and get into the actual cloud based system I am trying to use, but always crashes eventually at some point after I have input software.

    Hi,
I cannot confirm if it is supported for Remote Desktop Client to remote to the third party cloud server. Also RDC is keeping updating since released, you can also check if a newer version is available and if it will get this back to work.
In the meantime you can also test to use a Windows system to Remote to that server incase the issue occurs on server side.

  • Trading in Mac Desktop for Macbook Air

Does anyone have experience with Apple's recycling/buy back program?  I purchased a Mac desktop about a year and a half ago and am looking to sell it and purchase a Macbook Air in its place.  The desktop is in immaculate condition.  My family rarely uses the desktop and I probably should have purchased a laptop in the first place (that hindsight is always 20/20!).
    A few questions:
    1)  Does the Macbook Air have the same capabilities as the desktop?  Our use on the computer is pretty standard: drafting word documents/spreadsheets, web browsing and utilizing iTunes and iPhoto.
    2)  What's our best bet to receive maximum payment for our desktop?  Selling it privately via Craig's List/Facebook or Apple's recycling/buy back program?
    3)  Will I even get back the money to make this "swap" worthwhile?

Modern Outpost is coming out with a MacBook 12V DC car adaptor, and are hoping to add an Air adaptor in the near future...

I see the comments about using an AC Inverter, but I prefer to speak about solutions that will work with solar chargers too. An AC inverter will not only NOT work from a solar panel without extra & heavy equipment, but it wastes more than 20-40% of your power... first it converts your battery power to dirty household AC, then your Apple adaptor converts it back to DC for your Mac.
I suggest using a DC adaptor and bypass the middleman.
Modern Outpost's website has nothing posted yet...

  • Can't access remote desktop on Macbook with XP

I have Macbook with Bootcamp loaded. I am unable to connect to my remote desktop at work from the laptop. My work requirements are for a computer with XP and Internet Explorer.
I continually get an error stating, 'The client could not access the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new applications. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. Please try connection again later. If problem continues, please contact your administrator.'
I am able to log in from a PC running the same version of XP. I have checked all settings I can think on both computers and they are identical. I can't get support help at work. As soon as I tell them I'm running a Mac, they hang up on me.
Any ideas what would be preventing this connection on the Mac? After using the Bootcamp software, I tried Parallels for the Mac as well and get the same issue.

Have you examined the XP system event log (Admin Tools->Event Viewer->System)? I'd expect RDP errors with searchable message ids to be reflected here. Probably a good idea to check the logs on the target machine too ..

  • Sharing music from iTunes on an Xserve to new MacPro Desktop + MacBook Air

    Hello all,
Have a question here regarding sharing a central iTunes playlist/XServe and also enabling the functionality to add music to that XServe library remotely
    Current Setup:
-- Mac XServe running iTunes 24x7, sharing one playlist containing entire music library
-- MacPro Desktop and MacBook Air connected to shared playlist and streaming music successfully from XServe shared playlist
Short of running to another part of the house and sticking a CD into the XServe, please let me know if anyone out there is aware of a way to copy music to the iTunes music share/folder on the Xserve and have iTunes automatically scan that folder and add to the library/playlist, or some other option to add music to the central library for administration (Perhaps apple remote desktop to the XServer and then...)
Any thoughts appreciated, I will respond with more info ASAP if requested.
    Best,
    Elliott

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
With iTunes 11 you might also have a Home Videos folder inside iTunes Media.
In the simplest cases you copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target machine, install iTunes, and it "just works"TM.
If the media folder (inside the red outline) has been split out to a separate location then you can copy the library folder (outside the red outline) as before and connect the drive holding the media so that it has exactly the same path as before. If the drive appears as D: on one system and E: on the other then the library won't be able to find the media.
The crucial file is iTunes Library.itl - this contains a record of the tracks that have been added to the library, ratings, play counts, playlists etc.

  • Remote with macbook air

can apple remote using with macbook air?

No you cannot use it as the new Air does not have an IR port.
So we have a great notebook, very slim and light - perfect for presentations. It just does not support the remote anymore - what a stupid decision!!!
You might recommend to buy a third party product which works with bluetooth. When doing so, you forget the following:
The original Apple Remote has a GREAT feature. You can pause a movie or flash animation which is placed into a slide at any time by pushing the PAUSE button. This is extremely helpful to explain something which is happening in your animation. This feature is gone now and this is a shame.
Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?
    Thank you!!!

  • Pairing apple remote with MacBook Air

I want to know how to pair the Apple TV remote with the MacBook Air Late 2010 Model.

this is not possible as that model MBA has no IR receiver.

  • Pair apple remote with macbook air, pair apple remote with macbook air

can any one please tell me how to pair apple remote control with macbook Air ????

now, I had the same issue
solved it by transforming my phone (Nokia 2700 c ) into a bluetooth remote
    see this pages:
    http://www.salling.com/Clicker/mac/devices.php
    http://torrentsmd.com/forum.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=87892828&page=p11032817 #11032817
search in the list if the phone you have is compatible, then install the little program and you may even have a remote MOUSE by just clicking it on your phone
PS. even if it yoru phone is not in the list there is a big chance that it will work, (mine wasnt in the list and it works like a charm) it is based on java if I understand corectly and most of the phones understand that programing language.

  • Installing a third party program on macbook air

Can someone please tell me how to install a third party program from a CD onto a Macbook Air?
I've spent the last 8-10 hours trying to figure this out and I keep going around in circles. The program I want to install is on my desktop. I've tried Migration Assistant but it wants to install =all= my applications rather than just one. I've tried loading the CD onto a flash drive but when installation starts I keep getting a message to install the program CD, which is residing on the flash drive and which Air apparently cannot read. I've tried CD/file sharing, but the Air does not have an option for CD/DVD sharing. There is no Firewire connection on the Air so that option is out. I've been to two electronic and neither has the cables for connection my desktop to my Air. Apple support is no help.
Is it really supposed to be this difficult?

    HI andouille07,
What application are you trying to install.
Have you tried fallowing this article?
    Enable DVD or CD Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1131
Enable DVD or CD Sharing should be performed on your desktop.
while "Use a shared DVD or CD:" should be on the air.
If you do not see the remote disk on the air. make sure both your desktop and macbook air are connected to the same network over wifi.
If that dose not work you could try making a disk image, and then coping the disk image to the flash drive and bringing the flash drive over to the other computer. assuming your desktop is a mac.
http://www.ehow.com/video4978318create-disk-image-mac-os.html explains how to make a disk image.
you can always purchase the external super drive as well.
