Remote Desktop Redirection

Hi,
I can't use folder redirection on Microsoft remote desktop when I upgraded my Mac to Yosemite. Is it related to its incompatibility with new OS version? Or my setups?
Thank you for your help!

Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially please update MRD MAC to v8.0.9. From description it seems that issue related to MAC side compatibility issue, so suggest you to contact apple customer care and clarify for further research.
Thanks for your understanding and Support!

  • Mac Remote desktop redirection doesn't work on 8.0.5

After the Microsoft Remote Desktop for MAC update on March 19th (8.0.5) folder redirection does not work properly. It worked fine on the 17th before the update. Please advise as some of my clients do use macs..
Updated: I need to specify that not working means. The drive redirects, but no folders show up at all. If i try to create a folder on the redirected drive we get an error 0X8000FFFF: CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. I have tried multiple usb drives, SD cards and more.
Even NTFS formatted usb drives will not work.

    Hi,
Firstly, would you please provide us the log file after you reproduce the issue to see if we can find some clues.
In addition, please try to uninstall and reinstall the app.

  • Remote desktop redirected printer doc

I have a problem in some printers that when i conect to the terminal server 2003, The local printer (of the client's computer) begins to receive many documents redirected and can't print nothing because the local printer has like 3000 documents in the
printer queue, how can i resolve this issue, why windows 2003 don't recognize those printers, like the hp 1015 o hp 1010. I have installed sucesfully other printers like the HP deskjet 5650 and i don't have problem with those, but it has been imposible
with the hp laser jet 1015, what am i doing wrong?,

In our case it's one of the LANDesk software executable called "LocalPrtInfo.exe". See http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-30089 for more information.
To trace the executable which is causing the issue, follow the below steps:
    1. Take RDP to one of the servers on which you are able to constantly reproduce the issue
    2. Start ProcMon on the server with the below filter
          "Path" contains \\tsclient\PRN2 Include
    3. When the issue occurs, this will generate the eventlogs in the ProcMon
    4. You can now see the process which is actually triggering the prints
    5. Get more details on the above process and work with the respective application vendor

  • One note starts on its own when I use Remote Desktop connection

Whenever I use RDC to connect to my home server, One note start and pops up totally on its own on my local computer.
Can anyone explain why, and more importantly how I can stop this behaviour?

After hours of reading through forums and posts similar to this one, and knowing the proposed work-arounds were not going to be accepted by my client that was having the issue, I came to the conclusion that it had to be a print driver or the software that
gets installed along with the print driver on the server that was causing my issue.
I started searching and came across some Epson software that was installed on the remote desktop server when I was trying to get a scale house ticket printer to work as a network printer. The printer was not installed on the server but the software remained
in the add and remove programs list.
I removed the three Epson entries in the add and remove programs list and the problem stopped.
I don't know if this was mentioned above but the behavior I observed was that the print job was going to multiple printers, not just OneNote. I my case if I removed the OneNote pritner I would then get prompted by the Microsoft XPS Document Writer for a
    file location to save to.
I could open the print queue for each of the printers that were getting redirected on my local machine, I would then log in to the remote desktop server that I was having the issue on. I could see the "remote desktop redirected printer doc" get
sent to each printer. If the printer was online it would flash for only a moment and the printer would ignore the job as if nothing had been sent to it. If the printer was offline the job would stay in the queue.
I think this was mentioned above so I will reiterate, don't approach the issue like it is a problem just with OneNote or with a particular driver from a particular manufacturer. We know at the very least that the problem can be caused by Samsung driver/printer
software and by Epson driver/printer software so it stands to reason that there can be other drivers/printer software packages that can cause the same problems.
    I hope this helps!

  • Remote Desktop Session Host USB Redirection with Windows 8.1

    Hello all,
I've currently setup this environment (both OS/Client are fully up to date as of today). I am using one server as the Gateway, Web Access, Connection Broker and RD Session Host with one collection.
I am trying to get USB redirection setup to work properly. Some devices work (pen drives/iPhone etc), but other devices (we have a smart card reader we are testing that works natively on my Windows 8 machine) that doesn't appear.
I see conflicting information wherever I go on the internet on how to get this working. Some places suggest modifying the registry on the client machine, other places suggest you need to add a customrdpproperty to the collection.
What is the proper way to get this working on 2012 R2 with Windows 8.1?

    Hi Gavin,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For redirecting USB on server 2012 R2 is to set the custom property for a session collection by using following command.
    Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration –CollectionName YourCollectionName –CustomRdpProperty "usbdevicestoredirect:s:{6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f }"
where {6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f} is the System-Defined Device Setup Class GUID.

  • Remote Desktop Printer Redirection Stops Working Randomly on Server 2008 R2

We have a MS Windows Server 2008 R2 that is used SOLELY as a Terminal Services remote desktop server onto our network. It is used for employees who are off site and need to use the networked company software. VPN works, but is extremely slow for this software.
Over the past week, the redirected printers function has repeatedly stopped on this server. The employees need this to print to their own local printers. It will eventually restart itself, but after several hours. To get it started faster, I have to restart
    the server.
I've done this maybe 6 time since last Monday. This has never been an issue before, and I cannot think of any change that may have occurred that could cause this.
    The Event Viewer says this:
The Remote Desktop license server cannot update the license attributes for user "DrewR" in the Active Directory Domain "XXXX.main". Ensure that the computer account for the license server is a member of Terminal Server License Servers group
    in Active Directory domain "XXXX.main".
If the license server is installed on a domain controller, the Network Service account also needs to be a member of the Terminal Server License Servers group.
If the license server is installed on a domain controller, after you have added the appropriate accounts to the Terminal Server License Servers group, you must restart the Remote Desktop Licensing service to track or report the usage of RDS Per User CALs.
    Win32 error code: 0x80070005
    (I inserted the Xs)
I've never looked at the Event Viewer on this server, but it is littered with messages such as this, and has been for months and months, so if this IS the issue, then it sure took its sweet time affecting anything.

    Hi,
Initially try to update with the latest rollup for fixing remote desktop printing issue. You can check below link and verify result.

  • Remote Desktop Services Printer Redirection with easy print not working as Desired

    Hi,
I have a Terminal Server Farm with a number of Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Session Host Servers in the Environment. There is also a RD Gateway server which is used to connect to the RD Session host servers in the environment. We
had configure the policy "Use Terminal Services easy Print Driver First" for all the RD Session Host servers. Everything was working well untill a couple of users Complaint about slow printing on Easy Print. While trying to troubleshoot the issue we came
to know that when we by-pass the RD Gatewat and make a Direct connection to the RD Session Host Servers we are able to Print Really fast using Easy Print. Only When we use the RD gateway server we get the problem with the Printing.
As we could not get through this problem and we are not in a condition to by-pass RD Gateway for connections we decided to put the TS Easy print Driver as a Second option. We went ahead and identified the 3 printers for which printing was slow. we
Installed the Drivers for the same printers on all the Terminal Server and Disabled the policy "Use Termianl Server Easy print Driver First". After this we were able to print fast on the 3 printers having Slow printing issues. All the other Printers were using
    Easy print.
After a day we realised that there were more than 20 drivers for Different printers installed in the Print Server Properties. We started getting viered problems with the Printing on all the Terminal servers like, Print Spooler Service Crashing, Hanging,
Users not able to redirect printers at all. To avoid this we Removed the Driver Packages but they came back the very next day.
I am not sure what could be causing this kind of behavior. I would really appriciate if someone can help he with these two problems
    1) Easy print Working Slow only when using RD Gateway Server
    2) Printer Drivers Getting installed on Terminal Servers when Easy Print Policy is disabled.

    1) Easy print Working Slow only when using RD Gateway Server
    > Difficult to track down especially through forum. Looking for some known issues/hotfixes
954743 FIX: After you apply hotfix 954744, printing performance may be significantly slower when you print documents by using Terminal Services Easy Print
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=954743
The Remote Desktop Easy Print (RD Easy Print or TS Easy Print) uses the XPS print driver that ships with .NET Framework.
    2) Printer Drivers Getting installed on Terminal Servers when Easy Print Policy is disabled.
    > If Easy print is not the first driver then it installs the driver if they are InBox drivers
    > If these are non-inbox drivers - This is because administrators are RDPing to the server from another PC with several printer/drivers installed.
When they RDP with printer redirection enabled, the drivers get automatically installed.
To avoid this, either turn off printer redirection at server level from RDP-TCP properties - might not be feasible if users need redirected printers
Else make sure that when admins RDP, printer redirection is turned off so that drivers are not automatically installed
This was a major issue in 2k3, i havent tested it in 2k8 though
This behavior is related to the change you made in Easy print driver behavior

  • Issues with Microsoft Remote Desktop: inconsistent directory redirection

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) to Yosemite. I have issues redirecting directories from my MacBook Pro to the target Windows host. The odd thing is, redirection works for some directories and not for others.
I am running Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0.13. The version of Yosemite is 10.10.1 (14B25)
The directories I am trying to redirect are (in the order configured in MS RD):
/Users/Shared/Projects-Office/PRO-2014-07-ABC_Aabcd_Aabcde-Aabcdefghi          [Replaced the characters in the last directory for security purposes]
    /scratch/xchange-buffer
    /Volumes/MyPassportStudio/Files-MPS/PRO-ABC
Redirection works for #2 bot not for the others. This is the list of configuration items I have done:
All three directories have been shared identically using System Properties
File permissions for directory # 1 and its parent directories are:
      Start directory: /Users/Shared/Projects-Office/PRO-2014-07-ABC_Aabcd_Aabcde-Aabcdefghi
    drwxrwsr-x 24 me  shared  816 Jan 12 12:27 /Users/Shared/Projects-Office/PRO-2014-07-ABC_Aabcd_Aabcde-Aabcdefghi

    drwxr-xr-x  10 root  admin  340 Dec 15 12:08 /Users
File permissions for directory #2 and its parent directories are:

    drwxrwxrwt@ 6 root  admin  204 Mar 17 21:09 /Volumes
MS Remote Desktop runs with ID me
When attempting to access directory # 1 through RDP/Windows host, the following is shown in the system.log file (/var/log)
    Mar 18 14:18:26 My-Host.local sandboxd[223] ([5154]): Microsoft Remote(5154) deny file-read-data /Users/Shared/Projects-Office/PRO-2014-07-ABC_Aabcd_Aabcde-Aabcdefghi
Any ideas as to why this behavior? Can sandboxd be configured to allow access to RDP to read specified directories?
    Thank you.

  • Redirected printers using Remote Desktop Easy Print driver work only once during session

    Hello all
We are running Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services Sessions hosts with printer redirection allowed using only the Easy Print Driver, we have no other drivers installed on the servers. All client printers are redirected and can print fine, but
only once per session! We have tested with several different client printers and they all work a single time in each session. After that the user needs to log off and then back on again to be able to print once again, but only once. Needless to say, our users
are annoyed. If I look at the c:\windows\system32\spool\printers folder while jobs are printing, but failing, I can see the spool files appearing and disappearing as jobs are spooled. No errors in the event logs accompany the behaviour. Our clients are running
Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. All exhibit the same problem. The error looks a little like what is described here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2925429
While similar, this problem describes a scenario where Easy Print is not used, but XPS is, and since Easy Print is based on XPS and the behaviour is very similar, I am tempted to make a connection.
I have checked all the usual stuff with permissions etc, and no manufacturer provided drivers are present. The problem appears on newly installed systems as well as one that have been running for some time. Restarting the spooler services does not resolve
the problem. Actually I do not think it is related to the spooler service or driver framework at all, but rather is an Easy Print driver issue that is occurring much later in the process, if not I would see some errors in the logs and no jobs would print at
    all.
Anyone ever heard of something like this?
    Thanks
    Morgan

    Hi Morgan,
Based from your description, users can only print once during single RDP session, I suggest you check if this issue also happens locally.
In addition, after the first print attempt, does any other issue exist on the RDP session?
Is the server fully patched? If there are any available driver updates, please also apply them. If there are any third party software installed, try disable/uninstall them to see if the issue persists.
You can also enable print auditing to get more detailed information about this issue.

  • Printer Redirection to Remote Desktop Server

Hello everyone, thanks for any help on this issue. We are running Server 2008 R2 with remote desktop. Our OS X users, a mixture of 10.5 and 10.6, connect with the remote desktop connection client for mac. They are using version 2.0.1 (090714).
We find that not all printers redirect once connected however some do. Currently we haven't found any differences, apart from the printer model that might cause this. Windows clients will redirect the same printers that do not redirect from OS X. Are there any guidelines around that show requirements for a printer to redirect from OS X to RDS 2008 R2?
    Thanks again for any help
    Mike

Hi we're seeing similar issues here but in our case none of our printers show up on the 2008 R2 Server when we connect from a Mac but they all show up when connecting from a Windows Box. Furthermore, the same Mac has its Printers show up fine when connecting to a Win 2003 R2 Server. Have you made any progress at your end?

  • Remote Desktop Connection to Windows 8 PC from other computers crashing

    Hi all.
Was hoping someone would be able to help me with an issue I'm having.
I'm trying to get a LAN remote desktop connection established to my Windows 8 laptop. It's an HP ENVY 17t-2100 CTO 3D Edition Notebook PC. Note that I'm running Windows 8 Pro only - not 8.1 as HP haven't released 8.1 graphics drivers for this laptop and probably
never will. The computer has a single user profile that has full administrator rights.
I have followed numerous web tutorials on how to turn on Remote Desktop. I've gone into Advanced System Settings > System Properties > Remote > checked "Allow Remote connections to this computer". All seems ok to me.
The problem comes when I try to establish a connection. When the connection is made, it almost instantaneously crashes the session on the computer or device trying to connect. The RDP client on my Windows 7 laptop, Mac OSX or Mac running Windows 8.1 Pro just
crashes, while the RDP iPhone or iPad app simply flickers for a few seconds then goes back to the main screen. Meanwhile, the HP ENVY loads the lock screen and displays a message saying XXX device is connected remotely and it won't let me log back in to kill
the connection or do anything. I have to restart the computer from then to be able to use it again.
I'm convinced there's not a problem with my local network as the HP ENVY can RDP into the Windows 7 laptop or Mac running Windows 8.1 without any problems. All computers are connected via Ethernet to a Linksys/Cisco wireless ADSL modem router which supports
Gigabit. The iPhone and iPad of course connect to the wifi network from the Cisco/Linksys modem router
I've also had a brief look at the RDP local connection logs. From what I can make out, they confirm that a user has successfully logged in, but they don't provide a crash log or a log of the user ever disconnecting, probably because I have to restart the computer
to continue using it. Dead end there, it seems.
The HP ENVY is connected to 3 external HP LED monitors. I've disconnected them and tried all devices with no luck. I've also played round with the RDP client settings to not mount drives or printers and the HP ENVY has no printers connected anyway, though I've
done all I can to remove any printer drivers as I've read elsewhere that they are what could cause the problem, but I've had no luck.
If anyone can suggest anything more that I can try, I would be unbelievably grateful! I'm more than happy to provide screenshots or videos of what happens when I try connecting. I'm not sure what you experts would find immediately helpful so just ask away if
you think I can provide anything.
    Thanks in advance!
    rugbyreff

The first thing that I would try is to uncheck all of the boxes for local resources on computer running the RDP client. It is possible that a device, such as a printer or other redirected device, is causing the crash. You can also look under Event Viewer
in the event logs of both systems and see if anything unusual appears when you attempt the remote connection.

    Hi Brandon
Many thanks for your suggestions. There's nothing in the logs that I could find, like I said in the original post. I've also tried connecting with bare minimum settings on all devices (FYI the iPad and iPhone version don't support the use of printers) and
    this still hasn't helped.
If you have any other ideas I'd be very glad to hear them!

    Hi guys,
Would love some help with an issue I been struggling for a couple of days now.

    Adam Bokiniec

    Hi Jeremy,
I found a solution, thanks for you effort. The solutions is the following.
First thing that needs to be done is either solution from options below, I did the Solution 1 in my case and added a NPS server to AD. (https://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2010/01/14/remote-desktop-gateway-client-fails-authentication-with-your-user-account-is-not-authorized-to-access-the-rd-gateway.aspx)
    Solution 1
Register the NPS server in Active Directory:
In Server Manager, browse to the following location: Roles\Network Policy and Access Services\NPS (Local).
Right click on the NPS (Local) node and choose Register server in Active Directory.
Click OK to authorize the server when prompted.
    Solution 2
Open Active Directory Users and Computers on any Domain Controller of the same domain as the Remote Desktop Gateway.
Add the Computer Name of the Remote Desktop Gateway to the RAS and IAS Servers group.
    Situation B
Restart the RDS host and Gateway server.
Secondly and the most important is to configure an alternate address that match your public certificate. My public certificate CNAME is “remote.domain.se”.
All commands need to be run as administrator in PowerShell
To show you current configuration run the following commands:
CollectionName is the Collection Name you created for the RDS deployment.
To get your collection name type
    Get-RDSessionCollection
When you got the collection name type
    Get-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName "RDS - Terminal Server" | FL *
The default configuration will look like this:
CustomRdpProperty     : use redirection server name:i:1
No to add you public domain name that match the certificate run the following command
    Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration –CollectionName " RDS - Terminal Server " -CustomRdpProperty "use redirection server name:i:1 `n alternate full address:s:remote.domain.se
Run again to verify your settings
    Get-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName "RDS - Terminal Server" | FL *
Now it show look something like this
CustomRdpProperty     : use redirection server name:i:1
                             alternate full address:s:remote.domain.se
IPADs and iPhones can now connect to your environment.
