Remote Dialin via Modem

I am attempting to set up a US Robotics modem to the console port of a Cisco 837 router. I have gone through the Cabling Guide for Console and AUX Ports guide from Cisco's web site.
Based on this information I was able to use a Cat5e straight through patch cable and a custom wired DB25 adapter to connect to the router. With this setup I am able to dial in to the modem through my PBX and interface with the router.
However, I am trying to purchase an off the shelf adapter and cable solution and cannot seem to find the right combination.
I have tried a CAB-25AS-MMOD adapter with a Cat5e straight through patch cable, a Cat5e crossover patch cable and a CAB-500RJ rolled cable from Cisco. None of these combinations work.
Am I using the wrong DB25 adapter? Can someone point me in the direction of the part numbers that will allow me do this with off the shelf parts?
Thanks for the help.
Sean

Thanks for the post. What I found out is that the CAB-500RJ was not a rolled cable like I thought or it was manufactured incorrectly. I cut one end of the cable off and put on a new connector in the reverse orientation. I then used this modified cable with the CAB-25AS-MMOD adapter and it worked.

  • Remote streaming via the Internet & SlingBox

    Apple TV
I would like to stream Direct TV video & audio from a remote location via the Internet using a SlingBox (also at the remote location) to a MacBook Pro. I would then like to stream the received video/audio from the MacBook Pro via a Time Capsule to an Apple TV unit and from the Apple TV to a plasma screen using an HDMI cable from the Apple TV to the Plasma screen. There is a high-speed Internet modem and wireless router at both locations.
Is this possible? If not, why? What may I be missing & what would I need to make this work? Would a Mac Mini be a better choice for this application? Is 1280x720 the maximum Resolution possible?
    Thanks,
    Steve

In any case, unless the remote site has a fast upload link to the internet don't expect the video to look very good once it is received and displayed on your TV. SlingBox quality is okay when running totally within your high-speed local network but as soon as you have to stream out over the internet the quality can fall off rather noticeably. On a typical broadband internet connection you might only have 300kbps to 500kbps on the upload side. This means that the video you get on the other end will probably be no larger than 320x240 or maybe even less. Furthermore, unless you want to suffer intermittent pauses and delays in the transmitted video you may even have to go to lower resolutions and/or even higher compression levels.

  • Can no longer connect to remote server via VPN

I recently installed OS 10.5.8, and have found that I can no longer connect to my server at work. The VPN itself (via PPTP) works fine, it's just that when I try to connect to the remote server (via Connect to Server) I get a dialogue saying 'A volume failed to mount.' A further dialogue says 'Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code -6602)'
Has anyone found a way around this, please? I'm disabled and I need to be able to work from home – without the connection I'm stuffed! Obviously I've tried rebooting the machine etc, but nothing seems to help.
Thank you for any assistance you can give.
    Kitty.

For some random reason this connection has begun working again – please ignore the question!

  • Help For Remote Access Via VPN

    Need Help
what cisco product or router specification or model  can we use for VPN connection in our remote site via Internet Connection
    thanks Godbless

There are several options here, but more information is probably needed to give a good recommendation.
    1.  What type of VPN?  A site to site VPN that stays up, or remote VPN that is more on demand?
    2.  What type of Internet access to have at your remote site?
    3.  Are you going to also use this as a gateway to the Internet or will this device sit to the side or behind your gateway?
My first inclination is that if you just need occasional remote access to your remote site for support issues check out the ASA 5505.  Depending on where you will place it and what amount of user traffic will flow through it, you may be able to get by with just a base license and use IPSec remote VPN.

Clearly the remote EXE cannot run in that context.  YOU should not run that program remotely.

  • Access directory in remote server via SAP GUI

    Dear experts:
My servers are with windows server 2003 OS, I want to access directories in a remote server via SAP GUI(in tcode AL11).
I have shared the directory in the remote server, and grant full control authrization to everyone. Then I map a driver to the shared diretory on SAP server, and I can open the diretory successfully. But when I add this diretory to SAP-directories(through tcode AL11), I can't open it in SAP GUI, when I doudle click on this directory, the error message occurs on the status bar:"Wrong order of calls <- CALL opendir: Not a directory(,,..)"
How can I fix this problem? Thanks!

    > I have shared the directory in the remote server, and grant full control authrization to everyone. Then I map a driver to the shared diretory on SAP server, and I can open the diretory successfully.
    Please note:
Driver letters are user dependent. So if you map the drive as administrator or <sid>adm it's not available for user SAPService<SID> (the user running the SAP system).
So the best thing to access directory is using UNC names like
    \\<servername>\<share>
    not drive letters.

  • SCCM 2012: remotely connect via powershelll: no psdrive

    Hi,
I'd like to connect via powershell to a remote sccm-server.
    What I did:
    Run powershell x86
    enter-PSSession -ComputerName sccm2012 -ConfigurationName Microsoft.PowerShell32
    Set execution policy to unrestricted
    Import-Module ‘c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\bin\ConfigurationManager.psd1’
Get-psdrive to see connections (in order to change to sitecode via cd  sitecode)
but the site does not appear (connected remotely also via sccm 2012 console and launched "connect via powershell").
    Please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

You need some reg keys for this to work. Those reg keys are normally created by the console when you start it.
    $CMSiteCode = "P01" #Your site code
    $CMSiteServerFQDN = "sccm2012.domain.tld" #FQDN to your site server
    New-Item -Path HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10\AdminUI\MRU\1 -Force
New-ItemProperty -Path HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10\AdminUI\MRU\1 -Name DomainName -Value "" -PropertyType String -Force
New-ItemProperty -Path HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10\AdminUI\MRU\1 -Name ServerName -Value $CMSiteServerFQDN -PropertyType String -Force
New-ItemProperty -Path HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10\AdminUI\MRU\1 -Name SiteCode -Value $CMSiteCode -PropertyType String -Force
New-ItemProperty -Path HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\ConfigMgr10\AdminUI\MRU\1 -Name SiteName -Value "Primary Site $($CMSiteCode)" -PropertyType String -Force
Use the script above before you import the CM-PoSh-Module, I've used it for some of my customers.

  • Connecting iMac with Mac OS X Tiger to an HPC with Windows CE via modem

    Hi,
I have an iMac G3 DV 400MHZ with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.6 and a Compaq C140 HPC with Windows CE 1.0. I dont have the original serial cable for the device and therefore cant connect it to my iMac (like its Mac compatible anyway!) I want to connect it to my iMac via modems (no not ethernet modems the antique modems with the phone wires!) so I can transfer files to it. In case you have never heard of an HPC or Windows CE (which is real similar to Windows 95) lets pretend Im trying to connect a Windows 95 PC to my iMac for file transfer and see if that works.
    Thanks

Try posting this under hardware section, you will get more response there. I doubt anyone here can help with that.

  • Re: Connecting environments via modem

    John,
The circumstance surrounding your question (namely a modem)
suggested the use of 'Disconnected clients' or 'Nomadic clients.
So I'll just throw that out just in case you are not aware
    of it.
Through the use of DistObjectMgr class and the -fs switch, you can
have a client come up in standalone mode, and only connecting to a
service object on demand. There is an example on how to do this
    in /install/examples/frame/nomad.pex.

Couple of thoughts ... some you can immediately dismiss ...
    1. Cert has expired (dismissed I know)
    2. Run the console through an xserver or through the UNIX console to see if you have the same issues.
    3. Check the cn=encryption,cn=config entry's attribute to see if it reads nsSSLClientAuth: allowed. If it reads required - you can ldapmodify it to allowed and restart the server. However this will obviously allow clients to bind in non-SSL fashion - which maybe is ok?

  • JDBC Thin driver doesn't support writing data into remote database via database link

    Dear Oracle Guru:
Please confirm: Oracle JDBC thin driver does not support writing data to remote database via database link.
The following errors occur when trying to write data into a remote database via database link through jdbc thin driver:
ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
    ORA-02063: preceding line from FDBE.PAPDSRAS1
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from PA
SQL statement is a prepared statement using a SQL like: insert into mytable@pa (col1,col2) values (?,?).
    Thanks.
    null

    Thanks, Dan.
I still think it is a driver problem, because I can do similar things in a stored procedure or in PL/SQL Developer to copy records from a local database table to a remote database table via database link (insert into mytable@pa select * from mytable). The value for distributed_transactions of our database is 10.

  • Trouble accessing a remote machine via ARD over a VPN

    Hi There,
I'm having  trouble accessing a remote Workstation via ARD over a VPN.
The VPN is set up and I can:
    - Control our 10.6 server via ARD remotely
    - Mount volums from the 10.6 server remotely
    - Access another server (we run an accounting server) remotely
But we can't access a Workstation using ARD.
I can connect to the Workstation when in the office so assume it's configured for access - I guess I suspect the issue lies with the Firewall on the 10.6 server and/or the Netgear FSV366G Firewall.
The VPN is setup on the 10.6 server so figure it's something to do with Snow Leopard server?
I'm just not sure how to narrow things down and fix the issue - although I setup the server I'm not super Unix savvy.
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

I can't say for certain what is going wrong in your case but I can confirm it is possible to do an ARD connection i.e. Screen Sharing to a remote user connected via a VPN. The way we do this is to get the user to connect to the VPN server (a Mac OS X Server), then on the Mac OS X Server in Server Admin see what IP address they have been allocated by the VPN server, then tell ARD Admin to connect to that IP address.
    This works fine for me.
The IP address will be a 'local'  to the ARD and VPN machines IP address it would not be the remote public or private IP addresses.

  • Satellite A60: Cannot connect to internet via modem - no dial-up

In my Satellite A60, WinXP Home, when I try to connect to the Internet via the Toshiba modem, I get Error 6: invalid handle, and after some attempts I get Error 50: all devices connected / request not supported.
Device Manager / Network / RAS Async Adapter shows an error (black exclamation point on a yellow field).
The driver is asyncmac.sys = MS Remote Access serial network driver.
    I have:
    - tried to uninstall RAS Async Adapter, but no chance, says it may be necessary for boot-up
    - uninstalled / re-installed modem
    - updated winXP via windows update
    - updated bios / modem / network drivers from Toshiba
No luck, the RAS Async Adapter error is still there.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks
    Alessio - Italy

I think this problem concerns Windows XP and RAS Async Adapter, not the modem.
The modem dials correctly the number, negotiates user and password, and then I get the error 6 and 50.
I found on the internet this tip to uninstall and re-install the RAS Async Adapter:
    http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/showthread.php?t=6781
I have followed the instructions and executed RArepair.exe.
It uninstalls and reinstalls the the RAS Async Adapter, but RAS is still in error (yellow field in Device manager).
