Remote Downlevel Document - printing over the network

I have a PSC (Printer Scanner Copier) HP F380 connected to a windows pc in my network.
I'm trying to print trough the network over Airport.
I can add the printer (it's found under the WINDOWS TAB when I'm adding the printer) and I sucessufuly login using the windows usr/pass ... (I have the correct permissions set in the printer).
The thing is all the documents I sent from my mac (Leopard) are showing up in windows as REMOTE DOWNLEVEL DOCUMENT, and tough they have the right size (it's not 0kb), they never print.
I tried desabling bidirectional support as I read on the web, but it was no help.
Any ideas ? Thanks in advance,
Felipe, Brazil.

When it finds the drive automatically what driver name is displayed? That's the one you look for. If the PC printer is properly shared, then you should see a list of shared printers. Select the shared printer and the driver should be found. If it isn't, then select the one that was used when the printer was directly connected to your Mac.
If that doesn't help then see: iFelix's Technical Pages for XP and the Mac.

  • Airport won't print over the network

I have a basic HP Photosmart C4200 series printer. It works fine when I plug it directly into my computer but when I plug it into the router, it won't print and this message comes up : "Unable to read response header - short read"
When I delete/add the printer from Preferences, it finds the printer and establishes connection but when I try to print over the network, it gives me that error message.
A weird thing I found was that when connected to the airport, my printer shows up under the iDisks tab under the Airport Utilities instead of being in the Printers tab...

    Welcome to the discussions!
A number of entry level printers are designed so that they will only work when they are connected directly to a computer, so that may possibly explain your problem.
To verify, you can work your way through Apple's troubleshooting guide to see if this is the case. If you've completed all the steps and still can't print, I think you have your answer.

  • Access Denied error when trying to print over the network

I just upgraded my Internet service and leased a new modem. My laptop is connected to the network and is able to browse the Internet. I have file and printer shared tuned on on both the desktop and the laptop. The printer is listed on my laptop, but I cannot print over the network to my HP PSC 1401 All In One. I get an Access Denied error even though the printer should still be connected to the network.

  • Before I had Mavericks I was able to print over the network to a Windows PC. Now I receive the message, "connection refused." Any ideas?

Before I upgraded to Mavericks, I was able to print over the network to a printer attached to a Windows PC. Now, I receive the message, "connection refused." any ideas as to why this may be and what I can do about it would be appreciated.

I had reconfigured all of the settings the same as in the previous OS X. The only thing I can think of that may be causing this is that the printer is an older Canon Pixma iP4300 and the Canon site doesn't have a driver for the new OS X. The Canon site said that the new OS X may supply the driver. Is there any one with the same experience as mine?

  • Unable to print to USB printer over the network

    Hi all,
I have an iMac and an Macbook Air, both running 10.6.4, and I've got an HP LaserJet 1200 printer connected to the iMac by USB. Both machines are on my home wireless network (Linksys, FWIW).
I seem to be unable to print to the LaserJet over the network from my Air. I've tried all manner of permutations of printer setup on the Air: IPP/LPD/HP JetDirect; entering the hostname (*.local) and the IP address of the host; leaving the queue blank and not; and leaving "Print Using" as generic vs selecting the LaserJet drivers. The printers appear in the "Default" Add Printer menu as Bonjour Shared, but this doesn't seem to work either.
Following other threads, I've tooled around with CUPS (resetting the configuration file, etc.), with no success. The other threads I've found on the subject seem to be more specifically addressed to folks trying to use an AirPort.
Any suggestions for what to try next?

In that case, let me elaborate on what happens when I try to set up the printer via Bonjour, in case there are any clues in the behavior that I'm seeing. The printer seems to appear twice in the "Default" pane, with Kind as 'Bonjour Shared' and Printer Names as follows:
    HP LaserJet 1200 @ (hostname)
    HP LaserJet 1200 @ (hostname) @ (hostname)
Selecting the first, it displays "Gathering printer information..." for a few minutes, then strikes out, suggesting Generic PostScript Printer rather than the correct driver. Whether I stick with that or select the correct driver manually and then try to print, it hangs on 'Copying print data..." (in the print queue).
Selecting the second, it gathers printer information only for a second or two before settling on Generic PostScript Printer. If I stick with Generic PostScript Printer, it hangs on 'Connected to printer...' but if I select the correct driver, it hangs on 'Copying print data...' again.

  • Problems printing over the network?

    Hello All,
I recently purchased a new MAC and I am trying to get my printer configured. I have a Canon IP6600D printer connected to a Linksys Wireless G Print Server. I downloaded the appropriate software from Canon to install my printer, which works when I have it connected via USB. However, when I try to install the printer as a network printer the MAC does not recognize the printer as a valid device. I try to add the printer as a Generic PostScript Printer; however, it still doesn't print at all.
I've tried enabling AppleTalk on the wireless print server, but still I get nothing. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much!!!

    Hello Phil,
The Canon driver cannot be used this way. It is designed for USB connection only. To get the iP6600D working for your environment, you need a product like Printfab. Check out their web site (www.printfab.net)

  • Cannot find my printer over the network

    Hi,
I've been using my printer (HP Photosmart C6100 All-in-one) for some time... till today. I tried to print one document and got an error, that printer cannot be found. System and printer restart - no effects. I removed the printer under system prefs, reset printing module and tried to add the printer - no printer found. Then I tried to add the printer manually using IP address - it was found as Universal PS Printer and test page was printed correctly, but that does not solve an issue as scanning and faxing do not work, moreover I loose many settings like HP paper selection, etc. Next - I removed HP software - no effects as well. Installed 2.5.2 HP package from Apple - did not help to.
I've run out of ideas.... Please help.
    Kal

Tried everything and... as the result I cannot open Printer settings in Mac Preferences. When I try to open it I got Beach Ball and Preferences process being stuck.
What should I do? I cannot print, scan, fax, now I cannot even choose another printer or configure anything.
Should I reinstall my system then?????
    Please help.

  • SL can't print over the network to Epson AcuLaser CX11NF

I create a bonjour print queue in snow leopard to the Epson AcuLaser CX11NF and it fails to print with with Yellow Triangle Unable to connect ot printer; will try in 30 seconds
Then I get the following error
    /Library/Printers/EPSON/LaserPrinter/GD2/filter/pdftoescpage.app/Contents/MacOS/ pdftoescpage failed
On the same network with another MAC running OS X 10.5.x it an print no trouble. Also if I connect to the 10.5.x shared printer I can print from SL.
I just updated to 10.6.1 and it didn't fix a thing.
I can print if I directly connect via a USB cable to the printer.
Why is printing so broken in SL, did they ship it before they completed development and testing ?

This may or may not be of help to Snow Leopard users, but printing to my CX11NF via the USB port on my Airport Extreme (the first n version, not the current one) is problematic but workable from both my Dual G5 and my wife's 15 inch MacBook Pro (late 2008), both running Leopard. There were no issues with Tiger, but Leopard introduced an incompatibility with Epson Status Monitor3. ESM3 crashes or freezes after any print job (or queue of print jobs), and this usually results in having to restart either the Mac or the Airport Extreme. I've found that manually quitting the Epson AL-CX11 driver, then quitting or, more often, force quitting the ESM3 after a print job allows subsequent printing without having to restart. (I do this using Dock menus.) The workaround isn't 100 percent successful, but it comes reasonably close. As this printer has been discontinued for a couple years now, Epson is extremely unlikely to update drivers for it. So far, I'm reluctant to upgrade my wife's MBP to Snow Leopard, as there's no way to know in advance if it will defeat the workaround. If anyone using Snow Leopard has success printing through an Airport Extreme's USB port to the CX11NF, please post it here.

  • Do not print over the network through XP

Hi! I purchased the printer. Establish normal. On the local machine prints without problems. The computer has XP SP3. On all computers installed in the office, too XP SP3. All are in the same workgroup. There is a problem, share the printer. I add it to the other computer (in any). He put the driver are tightened correctly. But when you print out a test page with an error message: The test page is printed correctly, open the Help topic. And when you print any document simply the task without error stupidly it goes into a queue and immediately leaves the queue. C computer that is running Windows 7 is printed without any problems! Please help !!!!

    Hello,
    Please try the below steps...
Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from www.hp.com/go/tools
If issue still persists, then you may have to Power OFF the printer , Computer and Router . Wait for 30 seconds .
Now Power On the  Route, Printer and Computer .

  • Printer: Remote Downlevel Document

    Hi,
I am having real problems priting to my HP printer on my windows laptop. I send the print job from any application on my mac but the printer just stays still. Windows print queue shows that user "Guest" printed "Remote Downlevel Document" as in the queue but it never prints. Help would be very much appreciated

The printer is connected to the Windows XP laptop by a USB cable. The laptop is connected from its Ethernet port to my router. My mac mini connects wirelessly to the router.
    Thanks for the reply

  • HP Software finds the printer, but then "the printer was unable to be installed over the network"

I have tried to search for a similar issue, but haven't had any success yet.  I doubt I'm the first with this problem!
The computer is XP SP3, the printer is Deskjet 3050A, and it's a WPA-PSK WiFi.
The printer confirms that it is connected to the WiFi.
When I run the setup tool on the computer, at the Network Check point, the setup software finds the printer at the correct IP address.  It is the only thing it discovers.
I click next, ànd after a minute or two, I get the error "the printer was unable to be installed over the wireless network"  Click Retry to try installing the printer over the network again, or click Cancel to return to the connection options.
This just cycles with no progress.  I have turned off the Windows Firewall and also disabled the AV.  No change.
I can browse to the web interface of the printer - but still can't install the printer.  It is listed in the Printers and Faxes as being Offline.
I'll try once again removing it, and re-adding it - but has anyone come across this problem before, please?
    This question was solved.

I am having a similar problem as well.  The printer is recognized (most of the time) when I run the HP Network DIagnostic Utility.  However, when I run the Add a Device setup program to install my wireless printer, it is NEVER recognized.  I have even tried to use the advvanced serach to locate it using the IP listed in the Diagnostic Utility without any luck.  As an aside, I was able to add the printer through windows just fine and am currently able to print to it, but would really like to add it using the HP installation so that I can configure the "scan to" settings again.
To make matters worse, I no longer have the USB cord that came with the printer because the device has been connected wirelessly for over a year now with minimal issues.  Any help getting this brick back online and connected to my network would be much appreciated!

  • HP PSC 1410 All in One HANG INDEFINITELY with Remote Downlevel Document

Hi, after a few days of setting up my PSC 1410 All In One Printer, which is hooked up to a Compaq Presario V3000 running on Windows XP SP3 with AMD Turion 64x2 processor; and shared print to a Sony Vaio VGN FW33G, and a Mac Pro running on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6
Just yesterday, my printer was jammed with a "Remote Downlevel Document" which I can't remove after using these methods I've researched:
    1. "Right Click and Cancel" x [indefinite] times
    2. "Right Click and Refresh" x [indefinite] times
    3. "Restart" x [indefinite] times
    4. "Restart" with printer hooked on/off to the USB x [indefinite] times + [indefinite] combinations of whichever comes first
    5. "Unhook USB and Click Start>Run "net stop spooler" and Rehook USB and Click Start>Run "net start spooler" x [indefinite] times
    6. Did virus scan for suspicious virus using Anti Vir
    7.  And in between, combinations of the above x [indefinite] times
    8. Search on the internet which obviously there's no real solution
    Please help.

Am (attempting) to print direct from my MacBook - admittedly I did not install any printer drivers during the Leopard (clean) install and am a bit confused as to whether I'm now using the right one, but from what I can gather from the threads like this now littering this forum it wouldn't have made much of a difference. I had infact presumed my problem was just that - that I hadn't the right driver.
Like I hinted at previous; I can reconnect the HP to my old G4 running Tiger and print with no trouble whatsoever.
Trying to print from Leopard brings up the print dialog, and subsequent utility as it should but then nothing - as if the MacBook's not talking with the HP (though it happily recognises it as being there and what model it is etc.).
I have not yet attempted to print over the network, mainly because I couldn't succeed as is. Or tried to scan as it happens (I hardly ever use the built in scanner as I have a better one and the PSC is my backup - I scan a lot in my job).

  • Printing to shared windows printer over wireless network

    Hi,
I just bought my wife a MacBook and recently updated it to Leopard (OS X 10.5). I have a Lexmark X5150 printer connected to a desktop PC running Windows XP. I can share files between the two computers no problem either wirelessly or through an ethernet connection through my router. But, I'm having troubles accessing the shared printer through the Macbook wirelessly. If I connect the printer directly to the Macbook, I can add the printer with appropriate drivers no problem. However, when I try to add the printer as Windows shared printer, the appropriate driver doesn't show up in the drop down list. I can navigate to and find the printer over the network fine, but I just can't find the right driver. I'm a newbie to Mac and was wondering if there is anyway to find the driver using Finder or something similar to determine where it physially resides on the Mac. I know it's there because it is automatically selected when I directly connect the printer to the Macbook and add the printer. Any thoughts??

Couldn't figure things out, so I'll just stick with connecting the printer directly to the macbook.

  • IMac G5 no longer prints to laser printer over ethernet network

I have a small office with 6 iMacs networked via ethernet with a Netgear Router. Printers are connected to one machine and people send to print over the network.
    3 iMacs are G5. 3 are Intel. All run OS X 10.5.8.
A month ago one of the G5 iMacs stopped being able to print to a Brother laser printer (which is connected by USB to an Intel iMac). I believe this happened after we downloaded a periodic Apple update. About 2 weeks ago a second G5 iMac developed the same problem. The 1st G5 iMac still prints fine to an inkjet printer connected directly to it by USB.
We have tried re-loading drivers, but no improvement.
Any suggestions as to how we can resolve this?

    Hi DaddyPaycheck
The iMacs that can't print can see the printer. We have deleted and re-installed via the printer system prefs too. There weird thing is that you can select the printer and send to print, but for some reason the printer then automatically pauses and you can't resume it. The file is listed by the status is 'stopped'. When you open the printer queue on the Intel iMac that the laser printer is connected to, no print file shows up at all...
We also ran the network diagnostic that you can do when in printer system prefs and that reported that "the G5 iMac could connect to the internet, but not the Server "brother HL 4040CN series-1@ben's-iMac-2.ipp.tcp.local" "
Hope there's a clue in there somewhere...

  • HP 8450 over the Network

I have been trying to get my HP Photosmart 8450 printer to work under Leopard to no avail. I have it hooked up over the network. When i do the manual install, i do not even see the driver listed. This, despite the HP site which tells me the driver comes as part of Leopard.

i plugged my MacBook Pro into the printer using a USB cable and it saw it. What is odd, is the correct driver is listed, but if i do a manual install of the printer, the driver is no where to be found. THis is a major problem for me as i do not want to have to plug the computer into the printer everytime i have to print.
My Windows XP box can print over the network, why can't my mac?
