Remote DVD or CD Sharing

I installed the DVD or CD Sharing software from the OS X install disk 1 on Vista. I enabled DVD or CD sharing via the control panel on Vista. I enabled allowing requests in Security/Firewall on the MBA. I put the DVD in the DVD device on the Vista.
Is there anything else I need to do on the Vista before the DVD shows up on the MBA under Remote Disk? Is there anything else I need to do on the MBA before the DVD shows up under Remote Disk on the MBA.
Using SMB I can connect the DVD device on the Vista so that it shows up under Sharing on the SMB.
What am I missing?
I want to use a data DVD mounted on the Vista to use a program (Rosetta Stone) on the MBA (perhaps this is not possible using Remote Disk; I can connect the USB DVD/CD device directly to the USB port on the MBA and access the data DVD that way but it is inconvenient. Never-the-less, the DVD should dhow up under Remote Disk.
Any questions or suggestions?

Hey, I just tried putting the Rosetta Stone data disc in my desktop Mac running Remote Disc to my brand-new MacBook Air and ..... doesn't work at all.
I suspect that Rosetta Stone does "something" to keep the running program physically tied to the disc for anti-piracy reasons. It would sure be cool to know what that is so that we know Remote Disc trips over it!
I wonder if I can get audio pumped through a remote desktop app? If not then I guess I'll have to sell my R.S. CDs and subscribe to their online version.

  • I can no longer see dvd or cd sharing option on Sharing folder

After having installed DVD or CD sharing, I am no longer able to find "DVD or CD sharing" on Sharing folder. Thus, I can't click it - obviously - and cannot access remote CDs or DVDs either.
Then, I tried to reinstall the software as Apple tell us to do, but I pops up a message "a newer version of DVD or CD sharing is already installed on your computer."
So that, I'm stuck. I can neither erase the files nor reinstall it.
Hope Apple could give us a hand.
I'd appreciate if anybody knows something that might help.
    Thanks!

Can no one help me with this issue?  I can see all videos in iTunes, but not through Home Sharing.
    Thanks

  • DVD and CD sharing

I am trying to set up remote disc from my PC.  I have downloaded the DVD and CD sharing software from the Apple website.  My instructions say to open the dvd or cd sharing control panel but there is only "remote install Mac OSX" program. When I open it up it asks for the Mac OSX disc.  How do I get to the DVD and CD sharing control panel.  I am new to Mac!!!! Thanks!

I open the remote disc on the mac and it is an empty folder.  When I open dvd and sharing folder on the PC the only option is to intall Mac OSC disc. I do not have a disc.  I am trying to load Office Mac.   How do I get the DVD and CD sharing control panel on my PC to open???

  • Can't Find "DVD and CD Sharing" under Sharing

Hello, I got a new MacBook Air a week ago, and I couldn't find "DVD and CD Sharing" under sharing in system preferences.  Is there any way to make it appear? I am trying to share the CD from a Windows computer, and I installed this on my Windows computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL112
But there is still no DVD and CD sharing... Can somebody please tell me what to do? Thanks, I'd appreciate the help

    Desmond,
There is no option because there is no DVD on a MBair. You enable DVD sharing on another Mac or PC. You're telling that other system to share it's DVD drive. When it's enabled on another system, you'll see "remote disc" on your MBair's finder bar.
    Hope that helps..

Hi I just got my MBA yesterday, and I couldn't enable 'DVD or CD' sharing under 'Sharing' of System Preferences. There is simply no such option, only Screen sharing file sharing etc. What should I do?

  • DVD or CD Sharing . . . AWESOME

I hooked up and am using "DVD or CD Sharing" from within the System Preferences > Sharing area. This is so awesome that it causes one to dream about a different kind of a Mac . . . like an Air, but not. I want a MacBook, NO CD/DVD, Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.++MHz, 3GB RAM, a 250GB hard drive and a bigger battery. Now, there's the ticket for the future.

If you will run the 10.5.2 update you will get this new feature to share a CD or DVD drive. System Preferences->Sharing->DVD or CD Sharing:

It works on all machines running Leopard, not just the Air.
This will just make your machine into a Remote Disc Server. It will not enable Remote Disc on your machine. Only MacBook Air's can see Remote Disc Servers. So, unless you have a MacBook Air, the "DVD or CD Sharing" feature is useless to you. Hope that clears things up.

  • Problem setting up DVD or CD Sharing Setup - newer version already exists??

    Dudes,
Just trying to set up install DVD or CD Sharing Setup on my MacBook so I can use Remote Disc on the Air, but have got this message on the Select A Destination screen:
"You cannot install DVD or CD Sharing Setup on this volume. A newer version of this software already exists on this volume."
I don't understand, as I have not installed this software yet. How can a newer version of it already exists on my MacBook?
The only thing I can think is that perhaps they included it as standard in 10.5.6, which I have on my MacBook?
    Can anyone help at all?
    Thanks!
    Johnnycakes

That software is bundled with the current Mac OS X version. Proceed as if it was already installed.

  • 'DVD or CD sharing' isn't possible. HELP!

Okay so i got a MacBook air on the 27th December I have done ALL the updates available, I now want to setup DVD or CD sharing however this is not an option when I go on 'system preferences', 'Sharing'. Help I have already like read all the forums and still can't do it

All you need to do is download the appropriate software from Apple to the machine that you will be using for your drive. Here's the link if you need to install it on a Windows machine: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl112 and this link is for Mac if you don't have it already installed: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL113. Once that is installed you will see Remote Disc on the left pane in the Finder on your MacBook Air and it should automatically find any discs you want to use.

  • Remote for itunes on shared library

    Hello.
On my mac mini in the living room is attached a USB drive with all music for itunes. The remote app on IOS works fine for this mini.
In my office on the same lan I have a mini which uses home sharing to see that library. However its headless straight into a hifi.
For the life of me I cannot owrk out how I can play music from the home share through this mini, is it possible? All the remote app shows is the few songs it has in its native library.
Any help appriciated because it seems to detract from the point of the home share thing.

    Hi Gary,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You should be able to access your Home Sharing library with Remote by pairing the two using these steps:
Pair Remote with your Home Sharing network
To use Remote 2.0 (or later) with Home Sharing, every iTunes library you want to control must have Home Sharing turned on. For more information, see Use Home Sharing to import items from another iTunes library.
Tap Remote on your device’s Home screen.
    Tap Settings.
Tap to turn Home Sharing on.
Type your Apple ID and password, and tap Done.
Tap the iTunes library or Apple TV you want to control.
For more information, see the Remote Support website.
You can find these steps and more information here:

  • Remote app and home sharing

remote app & home sharing worked on my new iPad (3rd gen) but did not work on my iPhone 4. this went on for a week or so but now both of them (remote app and home sharing) work on my iPhone but stopped working on iPad. I tried re installing itunes to 10.6.1.7 (latest version) with no luck. please help because i prefer using my ipad to control my pc

Be sure that all devices are on the same network.
If apple tv and remote are on same homeshare you should be able to select and control the apple tv from with in the remote app.
If apple tv and the itunes are on the same homeshare the apple tv will see the itunes library (and shared photos) in the computer section.
Additionally if these are all on the same homeshare you should see both the apple tv and the itunes library in the remote app.
    hope that helps.

  • Remote App and Home sharing not working

I've had no luck getting either the Remote app or Home Sharing working.  I've opened the correct ports, turned on sharing (both home sharing and under the Preferences -> Sharing tab), installed the newest version of iTunes, restarting the computer, iPhone, and router, and I'm still not seeing the iPhone appear under devices nor am I seeing home sharing as an option in the iPhone's iPod app.  Any idea?

These cases often end up with the user having some Odd thirdparty firewall or virus scanner try to disable it

I cannot find the eMac install disk, and I haven't been able to get it to start up from my 10.3 CDRm (holding down option or c), though I read something somewhere about these not being able to start up from system folders earlier than those they shipped with. I've dealt with this sort of thing several times before, and it always seemed to work to simply use target disk mode.
It definitely won't start up fromt the 10.5 DVD-R, and I'm pretty sure I tried putting the MBP into TM to use its optical drive as well, but it didn't work. But it's worth trying again, and I appreciate your input greatly.

  • Lion and Remote DVD sorta borked

    Hi,
I just tried to install some software on my mac book air.
I inserted the dvd into a mac that had  DVD and CD sharing turned on.
I also had the Ask Me for Permission turned on.
Any attempt to mount the DVD on the mba lead to an instant
permission denied message on the mba.
There never was a dialog on the mac with the dvd drive asking for permission...
I turned off the "Ask To Use" check box on the mac with the DVD and I was
able to mounr the dvd and install the software.

Contact Adobe, I'm sure they can help you out.

  • Apple Remote Desktop 3 screen sharing performance

Apple Remote Desktop 3 screen sharing performance
Apple should licence citrix terminal technology to improve screen sharing experience and performance over low bandwidth connections like the internet.
ARD works very nice on LANs. But the screen sharing performance for remote offices really has to be improved. Look at Citrix and MS Terminal Server - these products work very snappy over low bandwidth connections like 3G UMTS or Cable, DSL.
Also adding the terminal server technology (multi user over network) to the OS would be great. Not only redirect the hole client screen - map a GUI user session over the network for an admin while the user on the client has his own usual local session.
The curtain mode is good beginning.
    Kind regards,
    Bjoern

    Hi,
I mean that MS Terminal Server is a completely different beast, because you don't transfer the whole bitmap here as VNC or ARD does.
