Remote for advancing slides in Keynote

I'm posting this as a suggestion for Apple. I use a remote to advance slides for presentations. I would really like to be able to do that with the iPad. Bluetooth would be just fine. None of my Bluetooth mice will pair with the iPad so that won't work
If anyone has a work-around I'd be glad to hear it
Bill

Geez, I watched the same SteveNote and didn't see anything in there that gave me the impression that you'd be able to remotely advance Keynote slides from something outside of the iPad - the demo clearly indicated it was set up to use *the iPad itself* to hook up to a projector (not wirelessly) and be the presenter's screen (like a giant remote), with the projector getting the presentation output.
I'm sorry some of you bought this so early and were hoping to use it as a regular laptop, as it's not one. If you really need the services of a laptop and a bluetooth mouse, well........netbooks are cheap. Cheaper than iPads.
Having said that, give it some time - perhaps Apple will add this feature at some point, but I don't know if I would hold my breath. Even more likely there may be an iPhone/iPod app that may remotely advance iPad slides, but this will likely require them both to be talking via a WiFi router in the room.
Bruce Robbie asked: "Does the iPad case have a strap for secure single hand holding?"
I've seen one on the web - click here.

  • Keynote Remote for iPad

I'm not looking to control Keynote on the iPad, but rather use my iPad as a Keynote Remote for my MacPro running Keynote for Mac.  I have it on the iPhone, but running Keynote for Mac 'remotely' from my iPad would be better for me.  I run photography workshops and courses and in my studio my MacPro is connected to a 42" display that I run a Keynote presentation on.  I've been controlling it with Keynote Remote on my iPhone, but would rather use my iPad as the remote.

Although I have it on my iPhone, I couldn't find how to install it on my iPad.  Thought it wasn't compatible.  Found it through my "Purchased Apps" on the iPad (App Store) and hit install.  Thanks for verifing that it was compatible and I just had to dig a little deeper.
Wish they'd come out with a dedicated iPad version with a few more features rather than just a 2X view of the iPhone app.

I would appreciate it if someone could advise me as to the optimum resolution, dimensions and dpi for actual photographic slides that I am scanning for use in a Keynote Presentation, that will be projected in a large auditorium. I realize that most projectors in auditoriums that I will be using have 1024 x 1200 pixels, and possibly 1600 x 1200. There is no reference to this issue in the Keynote Tutorial supplied by Apple, and I have never found a definitive answer to this issue online (although there may be one).
Here’s my question: When scanning my photographic slides, what setting, from 72 dpi to 300 dpi, would result in the best image quality and use up the most efficient amount of space?
Here’s what two different photo slide scanning service suppliers have told me:
Supplier No. 1 tells me that they can scan slides to a size of 1544 x 1024 pixels, at 72 dpi, which will be 763 KB, and they refer to this as low resolution (a JPEG). However, I noticed when I looked at these scanned slides, the size of the slides varied, with a maximum of 1.8 MB. This supplier says that the dpi doesn’t matter when it comes to the quality of the final digital image, that it is the dimensions that matter.  They say that if they scanned a slide to a higher resolution (2048 x 3072), they would still scan it at 72 dpi.
Supplier No. 2: They tell me that in order to have a high quality image made from a photographic slide (starting with a 35 mm slide, in all cases), I need to have a “1280 pixel dimension slide, a JPEG, at 300 dpi, that is 8 MB per image.” However, this supplier also offers, on its list of services, a “Standard Resolution JPEG (4MB file/image – 3088 x 2048), as well as a “High Resolution JPEG (8 MB file/image – 3088x2048).
I will be presenting my Keynotes with my MacBook Pro, and will not have a chance to try out the presentations in advance, since the lecture location is far from my home, so that is not an option.
I do not want to use up more memory than necessary on my laptop.  I also want to have the best quality image.
One more question: When scanning images myself, on my own scanner, for my Keynote presentations, would I be better off scanning them as JPEGs or TIFFs? I have been told that a TIFF is better because it is less compressed.
Any enlightenment on this subject would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

When it comes to Keynote, I try and start with a presentation that's 1680 x 1050 preset or something in that range.  Most projectors that you'll get at a conference won't project much higher than that and if they run at a lower resolution, it's better to have the device downsize your Keynote.  Anything is better than having the projector try and upsize your presentation... you work hard to make it look good, and it's mangled by some tired Epson projector.
As far as slides go, scan them in at 150 dpi or better, and make them at least the dimensions of your presentation.  Keynote is really only wanting 72dpi, but I do them at 150, just in case I need to print out the presentation as a handout later, and having the pix at 150 dpi gives me a little help with their quality on a printer.
You'd probably have to drop in the 150 versions again if you output the Keynote to .pdf or Word or something, but at least you have the option.
And Gary's right (above) go ahead and scan them as TIFFs.  Sooner or later you'll want to do something else with these slides (like make something for an iPad or the like) and having them as TIFFs keeps your presentation looking good.
Finally, and this is a big one, get to the location for your presentation ahead of time if you can, and plug the laptop in and see what you get.  There's always connection problems. Don't let the AV bonehead tell you everything will work just fine ('... I don't have any adapters for a Mac...') .  See it for yourself... you're the one that's standing up there.  Unless it's your boss, then you better be really sure it works.

  • Apple Remote to Advance PowerPoint Slides

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the Apple Remote to advance PowerPoint Slides during a presentation?

There are a couple of apps here that might do the trick. Haven't used them myself: IRed Lite and Sofa Control

I believe that Keynote works with the remote out of the box - just FYI

is there a way to play a song for several slides within a larger keynote presentation?

Place the sound file on the slide and use Builds to change the images during the sound files duration.
Inspector > Builds > choose an effect
    Delivery: by paragraph
more options > start build manually or,
use automatically;    and select a delay (the amount of time the slides  show). For example; if you have a 30 second sound file and 10 images, enter a 3 second delay.

  • Keynote is an amazing tool for preparing presentations. However, keynote for iOS devices(e.g. iPad) doesnot have the simple way to add audio files in to the files. When we will have the update to add music files right into the keynote slide?

I have been using Keynote for presentation slides to be used in conducting training sessions. Though, Keynote has beautiful interface with elegant transitions to animate, it doesnot provide any way to add audio or music files into the slides in iOS devices alone. I have been waiting for the update to add this very feature, but cannot find it yet. When could we have this upate?

Send Apple feedback and tell them what you want. However, many app versions of programs are skinnied down, and that functionality may not be workable in the App version. Can't know until you suggest it to them however.
Lower right corner of this page, the contact us link, give it a try.

  • Keynote advanced slide numbering "X of Y"

Does someone here know if it is possible to put something like "Page X of Y" on the slides where Y is the automatic number of all slides?
    Thanks
    p.

X is possible.  From the Inspector Window, look in the slide tab (second from left) and click on appearance on the top.  There should be an option there for "slide number."  This option may need to be checked for every slide, which you can do all at once by highlighting every slide in the left frame (click on one slide, then command+A) and then going through the inspector to option in the "slide number."
As for Y, you may have to place that in manually using a text box.

  • How do you set up usb device (remote for ppt) to work with iPad2

How do you set up a USB Device (a remote) to work with an iPad 2?  I have the digital camera connector but when I plug the remote in, the device is not recognizable.  We are trying to run a slideshow on the iPad using the remote to advance the slides.  Thus, the viewer does not have to swipe to advance to the next slide.

...I have the digital camera connector...
Simple answer: no, you can't use that remote with the iPad.
The Camera Connection Kit (CCK) is only for importing pictures.  It is not a general purpose USB port so will not work with just any USB device, other than cameras and USB flash drives (but only to import pictures.)

I'm looking at GB 11 right now, so I don't know if this translate exactly to '09, but I think it's similar if it doesn't:
Looking at the shown Master Track, on the automation menu of options on the track (that lists volume, pitch tempo - whatever you want to send a curve through) there's another choice on the bottom: "add automation." You select this which gives you a dialog box and the option to add an automation curve for any of the Master Effects you've added in that Edit box on the right hand side.
Clicking a parameter in that dialog box will add the category to that menu, and then you can create a curve for it (using a two-dot quick ramp up from 0 to whatever value you want, then a two-dot ramp down at the end) for just the measures you want.
Ive done Add Automation, and Automatic Filter is now available on the "Add Automation". (Although Frequency, Resonance, Mode, Intensity & Speed are down as 5 seperate tick boxes under Automatic Filter and I'd like to just be able to select Automatic filter and not have to change each of these 5 independently and it just work from what I have set it to manually on left hand side).
I've added points/dots to the curve during the section I need it, but this moves the filter up and down over that point AND from the very start of the song to the very end of the song.
Where does the point/dot need to be/set to at the Start of the song upto the point I want the filter to kick?
So there would be NO filter on the track from Bar 1 to end of Bar 9
Then, where does the point need to be/set to at the end of song from the end of the filtered section?
So there would be NO filter on the track from Bar 13 to end of the song?
So just to confirm I want
Bar 1 to end of Bar 9 - NO FILTER
Bar 10 to end of Bar 12 - Filter
Bar 13 to end of song - NO FILTER
Thanking you in advance for a speedy response.

  • Remote for 2gen Touch

Does anyone know of a reliable remote to use with a 2nd gen. Touch? I have the Monster iEZClick, but it stopped working when I upgraded to iOS4. I already changed the battery in the iEZClick remote with no luck. I also am not interested in the earbuds/microphone/remote that Apple sells. Thanks in advance.

theres no way to control the iPod touch with a remote without having it in a dock of some kind. A lot of audio reciever companies sell their own wireless docks to go with a home audio system. Or Apple sells a universal dock for $50 and a remote comes with the dock to control the iPod while it's docked. On another note, there is an app for turning your iPod into a remote for your computer's iTunes. Just make sure your computer and iPod are on the same wifi network.
-Please rate as "helpful" if this helped! thanks!

  • Remote for Presentations...

My MacBook doesn't recognize the standard Bluetooth remotes used in our PC-laden lecture halls to control PowerPoint. None of the tech people know anything about a "Passkey" that Bluetooth Setup suggests I might need. (The remotes operate via a USB Bluetooth adapter plugged into the PC. I haven't tried plugging it into my MacBook.)
    1. Anyone know that there is an obvious something I am missing trying to get the remote to work with my MacBook?
    2. Any recommendations on a good remote for the MacBook? I need something to control presentations, mostly, either PowerPoint or Keynote.
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Original iMac still in use.

Hey, you're right. It works great, even as I walked around the MacBook.
I was trying to be sensitive about not wasting anyone's time here. And I know I checked the Apple remote on PowerPoint. (Checked it again; it doesn't work.) Thought I had on Keynote. Sorry about that.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Will an Infra-Red Adapter work with a macbook pro retina display so I can use the apple TV remote for presentations?

I have always used the apple TV remote for my presentations.  I bought a retina display last year for the betterment of my presentations and now I have to stand near my computer and hit a button to change my slides where as before I used my remote.  Will a infra-red adapter work with the apple TV remote in the macbook pro retina display?  Love my computer, but very disappointed not to have a remote for presentations that does not need the internet.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, I used that and it works great if you have wireless connection.  Im looking for  a remote that worked like the apple TV remote.  My questions is, "Is there a USB infra-red remote that works with mac.  I have found this one: Keyspan EZ1 easy presenter.  It claims with works with PC and Mac and the reviews are good.  Does anyone know anything about it or if it works with retina display macs?

  • Changing attributes for a slide show's background image

I want to change the "darkness" of the picture that I use as a backdrop for all my slides. I do not see how this can be done within Keynote. Individual imported pictures, yes, but not ones that I have designated as background pictures in the Slide Inspector > Appearance > Background > Image Fill.
I do this because I can change the background fill for multiple slides by shift clicking on the slides to select them, and then setting the background image all at once. But I often find the image is to dark (because I place text over the top of the background image), and so I want to lighten it up.
Is there any way to do this short of using the image adjustments within a program like iPhoto and saving the modified file? Is there another way to do what I want?
Thanks for the help from the experts.
Also, as a bonus question, it really bothers me that there is no easy way to change the font attributes on multiple slides all at once. Unless someone has a better idea . . .
    Tom

There are several threads that deal with this issue, but here is the basic info:
    1) You cannot change a "soundtrack" within a slideshow.
    2) You can create a series of independent slideshows, each with its own soundtrack. Then you can sequence each to the next via a Hyperlink. However ...
    3) Any "synchronization" of the Builds and Transitions you may have Recorded with the soundtrack will NOT work if the slideshow is played as a Hyperlink. The soundtrack will play when the slideshow launches, but you will have to trigger the Builds and Transitions manually.
    4) All bets are off if you try to export any of this to another format, such as QuickTime, PowerPoint, iMovie, etc.
    good luck

  • How to adjust the size of the slide in keynote to 7.5 feet high x 3.1 feet wide?

How to adjust the size of the slide in keynote to 7.5 feet high x 3.1 feet wide?

Keynote is not designed to produce printed media, it is set up is for video. There are dozens of applications that are designed for printed output on the Mac, Pages, Word, In design, Quark, Open Office, Libra.
Pages is the accompanying application in the iWork suite that is specifically designed to print to paper, you should look at that first as it May be on your Mac already.
