Remote for iTunes?

I've got an iphone, and one of my favorite apps is the "Remote" app to control iTunes. Is there a similar app for the Mac that I can run, either in dashboard or as a standalone? It's frustrating that I can 'see' shared music through itunes, but I can't control my iTunes music server via my iTunes or via another app.

I just installed TuneConnect, which has a server side piece, and a then a client that can sit on another machine. It seems to work pretty well so far, and also works with last.fm, which is groovy.
However, it doesn't play quite so well when you've used the apple remote on the iphone to start playing, and then gone to your laptop to change things (it crashed when I did this). I don't if I'd see a similar problem if you had been controlling the music on the server, and then went over to the remote machine ... haven't experimented with that yet, and my couch is too comfy for me to be bothered to test now Pretty minor quibble, but thought it might be worth mentioning ...

  • Remote for iTunes in a Two-PC Network

I've added the "Remote for iTunes" app to my new Android-based phone; but, it's iTunes on my wife's PC that recognizes the application rather than mine. Home sharing is turned on. Windows 7 on both laptops.
Suggestions as to how to go about changing the arrangement, so that my iTunes is the one that recognizes the remote phone app?
    Thanks very much.

Not sure if this solution has been discussed.. I try to read the other posts, but am short on time.
I too have had issues where the apps would not be updated even when tethered through iTunes. I was finally able to resolve this problem by restoring the phone... which seems to wipe the phones operating system clean.
Just deleting the individual apps and trying to have itunes reinstall them doesn't seem to work, (I've tried that method first), because the problem seems to be a glitch in the OS... that no app can hurdle over.
This is by far the longest way of fixing the problem but it seemed to work for me. So backup the phone, then press the "restore" button...
    Hopefully that helps.

  • Remote for itunes on shared library

    Hello.
On my mac mini in the living room is attached a USB drive with all music for itunes. The remote app on IOS works fine for this mini.
In my office on the same lan I have a mini which uses home sharing to see that library. However its headless straight into a hifi.
For the life of me I cannot owrk out how I can play music from the home share through this mini, is it possible? All the remote app shows is the few songs it has in its native library.
Any help appriciated because it seems to detract from the point of the home share thing.

    Hi Gary,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You should be able to access your Home Sharing library with Remote by pairing the two using these steps:
Pair Remote with your Home Sharing network
To use Remote 2.0 (or later) with Home Sharing, every iTunes library you want to control must have Home Sharing turned on. For more information, see Use Home Sharing to import items from another iTunes library.
Tap Remote on your device’s Home screen.
    Tap Settings.
Tap to turn Home Sharing on.
Type your Apple ID and password, and tap Done.
Tap the iTunes library or Apple TV you want to control.
For more information, see the Remote Support website.
You can find these steps and more information here:

  • Remote for iTunes on a networked XP desktop

I have not been able to get the Remote app for iphone to connect to my large iTunes app on my Windows XP desktop. When I launch it on the iphone in my home, it immediatly finds my son's XP laptop, which is connected to the same network that the iphone is. That laptop can also see the desktop computer where my iTunes is, which is phyisically connected to the WiFi router that my iPhone is talking to, but of course the desktop is not connected via WiFi. Is there a way to get these to talk, or do I have to move my collection to a laptop, or put a wireless card in the desktop (which I won't do) to get these to see each other? BTW, I have already done all of this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1741
Any help much appreciated. I am wiring my computer to my stereo via an airport express (not yet purchased) and this would make the system work beautifully!

  • How can I use my iPod Touch as a remote for iTunes, while connected via USB?

I was wondering if I could use my iPod touch as a remote/iTunes extension while it is connected to my computer via usb.
It would be highly practical to control my music from there, since it is charging right by my side while I'm at my computer.
Remote is not really an option, my computer doesn't have bluetooth or any connectivity. Something over wifi would work, but there's a usb connection right there that's begging to be used.
    Thanks

You can't do it via USB.  Go to the App store and download/install the Apple Remote app.  It can control iTunes on your computer via wifi.

  • Can not verify remote passcode - iTunes Remote

    HI,
I had a lot of trouble trying to get my android Remote for iTunes App paring with iTunes succesfully on one particular PC
Initially I though the issue was to do with the app, but it turned out to be caused  by a design flaw with the iTunes Application.
Viewing the network traffic with Wireshark, I could see that once the Verification Code was entered into iTunes it did not respond directly to the IP address of the requesting device (as it should do), but it was sending the response to the Web Proxy Server address, which iTunes gets from Windows Internet Settings)
To correct, I disabled the proxy in Internet Explorer and retired. (Start iExplorer, Tools - Internet Options - > Connections > Lan Settings
Once paired, you should be able to renable your Proxy.
Hope this info is helpful to others.

I've just had the same problem and thought I'd throw in what solved it for me:
Running iTunes 9.02 on two Mac Mini's in my house (both running Leopard 10.6.2). One paired up with the iPhone remote straight away, but the other would always lock up after entering the 4 digit code.
They're both connected to the same network in the same way (ethernet), firewall and all other sharing settings were identical on both machines. I even unpaired and re-paired from the working machine to check that it really was fine.
    I tried just about everything:
    - playing around with just about every security setting
    - restarting the machine / router
    - restarting the iPhone
    - trying to connect the iphone over an adhoc wifi network
    - checking disk permissions with Disk Utility
    - deleting all iTunes preference files and starting again
In the end I finally solved it this morning -- It turns out there was something wrong with my iTunes Library itself. If I moved my existing library files out of the iTunes folder and restarted iTunes (to create a new, empty library), the pairing worked straight away! But as soon as I put the old library files back into place, iTunes would again lock up when I attempt to use the Remote app.
So, the solution for me has been to create a new Library and re-import all my music / podcasts (which isn't too much of an issue for me). Remote App is now working flawlessly, as it was on my other Mac from the beginning!
Hope that might be of use to someone....
    Cheers,
    John

  • Hi, i want to use my iphone as a remote for my itunes i have downloaded the app, turned on home shareing on my laptop and they dont seem to be talking.

    hi,
i have dowloaded the app "remote" to use my iphone as a remote for my itunes library, i have turned on home shareing on my laptop. they dont seem to be talking to each other. i have also tried the other way of adding a library on my iphone, but my laptop wont show my phone on the devices list.

Turn off home sharing, you don't need that. Open Itunes Preferences from the computer. Go to the devices section. At the bottom you will see the option to add a remote access that and follow the steps.

  • Second MAC computer as remote Airport Speaker for iTunes?

    Hello all,
On our MacBook, iTunes is playing all our favorites. Does anybody know whether it is possible to set up another Mac in the same Network as a remote speaker for iTunes? I know about AirFoil but I would prefer something like the "client part" of AirFoil which can directly connect to iTunes.
Thx for any hints on that!

That's not what I want. The music should be the same and in sync on both MACs. Our MacBook is on the ground floor while an iMac is on the first floor.
It should be just the same like using AirPort Express. I would like to have the iMac be available as AirTune-Speaker in iTunes on the MacBook.
I guess it should be possible somehow, as it cannot be a matter of hardware.
    Thx for any further ideas!

ITunes perfectly but there is no audio coming from the phone, I am having a party and I
want to play the same playlist  throughout the house without having it up at full volume.
I was hoping to leave the laptop downstairs and plug the IPhone into a stereo upstairs.
    If this is normal ...........
Is it possible to load the playlist on to 2 computers , and have them playing the same music
    simultaneously.

  • I'm looking for a bluetooth remote for iPad's iBooks app

I'm looking for a bluetooth remote that will allow me to flip the pages of a book in the iBooks app.
Does anybody know of such a thing? I have found remotes for the iPad, but they seem obscure as to what it can accomplish. I need something more than something that plays iTunes remotely. I have a specific need.
Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Yubz Magnum really has great sound. They come in four colors too.

    Hi,
    Yes.
I use Tango to control my iTunes library from my iPhone.
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tango-remote-control-music/id345279970?mt=8
Make sure and install the Tango app on both devices.
Launch the app on your iPhone and follow the instructions. Very easy to use.
After the app discovers your music library, tap "More" at the bottom of the app window then tap Settings. You can enable the iPhone so you just "shake" it to play the next song.

  • Remote for 2gen Touch

Does anyone know of a reliable remote to use with a 2nd gen. Touch? I have the Monster iEZClick, but it stopped working when I upgraded to iOS4. I already changed the battery in the iEZClick remote with no luck. I also am not interested in the earbuds/microphone/remote that Apple sells. Thanks in advance.

theres no way to control the iPod touch with a remote without having it in a dock of some kind. A lot of audio reciever companies sell their own wireless docks to go with a home audio system. Or Apple sells a universal dock for $50 and a remote comes with the dock to control the iPod while it's docked. On another note, there is an app for turning your iPod into a remote for your computer's iTunes. Just make sure your computer and iPod are on the same wifi network.
-Please rate as "helpful" if this helped! thanks!

  • Remote for powerpc mini?

Do apple sell the frontrow remote/reciever as an optional extra for older macs?
i have a powerpc g4 1.5ghz mini and wanted to know if I could get a remote for it.
Originally I didn't think i was missing much by not having it but i recently got a macbook which of course includes frontrow and the remote and i must admit the remote is quite nice for using with itunes so was wandering if they did a remote with a reciever that plugged into the usb or something.

No… they will never do this as a reason to upgrade to a new Mac. Apple marketing would never let them do it.
