Remote Install of OEL from DVD image?

I have a linux server that has CentOS 5.3 64 bit installed. I do not have physical access to it. I can't mount a DVD.
But I do have access to ssh, yum and can install anything on it.
Can I download the Oracle Enterprise Linux 64 bit DVD image from OUL Network and install from the image without creating a DVD and putting it in the drive?
Is there a simple solution?
Thanks
SG

Please visit the http://linux.oracle.com site and follow the link to download a new "up2date" RPM package in the "Switching From Red Hat Network" link.
Install it on your server and:
# /usr/sbin/up2dateand take a nap.
If you do not have a ULN subscription, you can do a network-based install using the:
boot: linux askmethodtechnique; Google for "linux askmethod" for details. There are also detailed steps in the Red Hat installation guide over at http://www.redhat.com if you prefer.

  • PRE 9- installed extra content from DVD, but still getting prompt?

I just installed Premiere Elements 9 from DVD.
I also installed the second DVD of extra content.
When I start up the PRE 9 program, I get a prompt warning me to "Install Full Content- a reduced set of content... has been installed. You can install the full content by inserting your content DVD or downloading it."
Even though I had already installed the second DVD of content (which was a LOT of content!), I put in the DVD again. This time, the installer wanted to REMOVE the content, so I took the disc out before going any further.
I am not sure if the additional content was successfully installed or not. If so, how do I get rid of that popup prompt?
When I have a project open in PRE9 and open the Disc Menus tab, there is a dropdown box of menus by filter, including Entertainment, General, Happy Birthday, etc.
If I click on Entertainment, for example, I have a choice of Art in Motion, Music video, Performance Star, Broadway, Popcorn, or Stage. There is a Main Menu and Scene Menu for each of them. Happy Birthday has Balloons, Birthday Party and Kids Party. Etc.
Do I have the additional content properly installed, or is there supposed to be more than this? If there is, how do I get the PRE 9 program to recognize what I already installed from that second disc?
    My system:

  • Unable to install Windows 7 from DVD drive

I’m attempting to perform a fresh install of Windows 7 on a HP Pavilion laptop, which has both a brand new HD (500 GB) & DVD drives. Plus it has 4 GB RAM, & a 64 Bit processor.
I set the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive, but the software will not boot, nor does it show the instructions to “push any key to boot from DVD/CD” the disk just keeps on spinning, and then stops. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx Notebook and issues with a new HDD and reinstalling Windows 7. Here is a link to troubleshoot install of new HDD.  Is it being seen in the BIOS? The discs that you have are they back up disks or System Recovery discs? The repair would have been better with only replacing 1 thing at a time. Starting with the HDD. I would remove the new Ram and CD player. Try to get the Windows 7 installed.
Go to the BIOS screen by restarting system, keep tapping the F2 key. BIOS screen appears, click on Boot devices and choose DVD/CD.
I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Installing a program from DVD

Autorun.ini takes Numbers to open???? Why, how can I change this to install a program from a DVD??

    Hi both,
thanks for the reaction. I intend to install the software from Devolo dLAN connector which works over the power cable lines.
On the installation CD it is a autorun.exe file which should run automaticly. It doesnt.
If I double click on it, it tries to open with "Numbers". And of course this is a wrong linked program to run.
Right mouse button, choose program to open shows me other programs wich I could link to open. Which one shall I choose to run a .exe file?
Sorry for this, I am a PC user since 20 years. The MAC world is different and new for me. How can I make a print screen with the Mac to show you what I mean?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Trying to install iwork '09 from dvd on new imac with no dvd drive.....iwork is brand new (bought off ebay) in unopened box....I have at my disposal an older imac with dvd drive and a 16GB thumb drive...what is best way to load iwork on the new imac?

bought my mom a new imac this xmas...didn't realize it has no dvd drive....just picked up a new unopened version of iwork '09 for her to use off of ebay....need to get it loaded on the new dvddriveless imac......I have an imac at my house with a drive and a thumb drive i could bring over to her house if I could somehow burn an image of the iwork dvd on the thumb drive...is this possible?  is there a better solution other than buying an external dvd drive?

First use Disk Utilty to make a disk image of the iWork disc on your iMac. Then there are two easy ways to install on your mothers new iMac. One is to copy to your USB thumb drive, visit your mother and install from the thumb drive. The other is to use a free upload and download service like www.wetransfer.com. Upload the .dmg disk image via www.wetransfer.com, then your mother downloads and installs. After installation you'll need to update iWork for Mountain Lion compatibility.

Has anyone come up with an answer?
If not, what are my options? We spent a lot of money that we couldn't really afford for this software.

You will need to have a look at the log files.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/mac.html#troubleshooting
    16.8   Troubleshooting
    16.8.1   Logging
There are two primary logs: one for the installer application and one for the Updater which is responsible for detecting and downloading updates as well as invoking the installer.
    16.8.1.1   Install log
Apple’s Installer.app creates an install log that should contain all basic success and failure details. The file is located at /private/var/log/install.log created by Apple’s Installer.app.
By default, the installer logs only necessary information in installer log. However, it is possible to configure the log to provide debug output for 10.x and later products.
To set this preference, do the following:
Go to Users/<user name>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/(version) or create it if it doesn’t exist.
Open com.adobe.acrobat.InstallerOverrides.plist or create it if it doesn’t exist.
    Create following key-value pair: AcroPatchLogLevel:debug
    debug logging<key>AcroPatchLogLevel</key> <value>debug</value>
    Save and close the file.
    16.8.1.2   Updater log
The Updater creates a log at Users/<user name>/Library/Logs/Adobe/{application name} Updater.log. By default, it provides non-verbose output. To change the default:
    Go to Users/<user name>/Library/Preferences.
    Open to com.adobe.ARM.plist.
Note Create the file if it does not exist. The file will not exist unless the Updater has run at least once.
Create a new key if it does not exist: LogLevel.
    Set LogLevel:
    Brief: -int 0
    Verbose: -int 1
    Save and close the file.
The log size limit is as follows: If an existing log is bigger than 1 MB, the Updater truncates the log. Old log files are backed up once as Adobe Acrobat/Reader Updater-old.log and overwrites any existing old.log.

  • Can't install Aperture 3 from DVD on 10.8.3

I just picked up a new iMac, installed 10.8.3 (updated from 10.8.2 which is what it shipped with) and then popped in a DVD w/Aperture 3.  When opening it said it had to reopen the installer (which is weird), and now when I select a destination disk the HD has a warning symbol with the message "Aperture can't be installed on this disk.  The contents of this disk can't be changed."
    What's going on?

On which drive are you trying to install Aperture? Your system drive or an external drive?
Aperture needs to be installed in the "Applications" folder on your system drive for updates to work. Are you running the installer using an administrator account? Otherwise you may not have the necessary permissions to install Aperture.

  • Can't re-install iPhoto '11 from DVD disc

After having trouble with iPhoto hanging my Mac on trying to launch 18 months ago, I bought Aperture and have been using it.  I also got a video card replacement. Now, I want to re-install iPhoto from the iLife '11  DVD I bought, and use the calendar creation part of it.  When I try to do so, an alert that the pkg has an invalid certificate (see screen shot).  So, I have tried to Continue anyway and after installation, iPhoto says it has to check for updates, and that reports that all is up to date.  However, iPhoto will not launch.  Nothing.
So, if I dont continue, I get the info below about the certificate, which expired in March 2012.  What can I do about this?

Download from the Apple Downloads webpage  and install the iPhoto 9.1 updater followed by the most recent iPhoto 9.3.1 updater

  • After holding c key while rebooting system I do not have an acces to choice of installing mac os from dvd

    Hello,
I just wanted to upgrade my Mac OS from Tiger 10.4.11 to a Leopard 10.5 (I run PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0GHz) and I experienced a little problem. To boot computer from the genuine retail Leopard 10.5 DVD I am suppose to hold down the 'option' or 'c' key while restarting computer. So I do it and what only happens is the little icon representing my main hard drive called Macintosh HD appears in the center of the screen and an arrow button (which after clicking it starts my OS previously installed) and also 'refresh' button ( an arrow curved to the left with the shape of a circle). I do not have any other additional option to choose or buttons to click. I must also say that I do have another hard drive plugged inside the power mac which works fine under the tiger system. It is normally visible and usable while I am working with the system. But after holding C button while restarting computer only one hard drive is visible whose icon appears on the screen. The same situation is while trying to reboot computer from USB stick. It simply doesn't work.
Can anyone help me to make my system upgrading possible.
    THX
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
Very few PPC Macs can boot OSX from USB.
What happens if you choose System Preferences>Startup Disc & select The 10.5 Install Disc to boot from?
Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...
See which one your G5 has...

  • Installing jam packs from DVD on Lion

When I got my new iMac last year it came with Snow Leopard. At the time, I attempted to install all my jam packs (I have all of them) and it gave me an error that Rosetta was not installed. After installing it, I was able to install my jam packs, which i use with GarageBand and Logic Express.
I hear that Lion no longer supports Rosetta. Anyone know how to install the jam packs? Can I copy the jam pack folder to an external drive and then copy them back? Seems like the installation is a "package", which may not work if I don't run it from the install DVDs.
    Thanks

If you install Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion on top of your Snow Leopard, then the Jam Packs will will continue to work. If you make a clean install of Lion, then you will have a problem with the installers, for Lion does not support Rosetta. Then the best you can do will be to restore the library folders containing the Apple Loops and the Instruments Library from your (Time Machine) Backup.
        /Library/Audio/Apple Loops
       /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops
       /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library
For a clean install you might consider to invest into purchasing MainStage 2 - it is much cheaper than any of the Jam Packs ever has been, but will install all the JamPacks to be used with GarageBand and Logic.

  • Trouble installing CS6 (Win) from DVD -- no Set-up.exe on DVD

I am trying to install my new CS6 (Win) off of DVD. Inserted DVD and nothing happened (no automatic install start). Read PDF instructions which said to click on Set-up.exe file to get things going. Guess what, no Set-up.exe that I could find (not in root directory at least).
    What now?

    Hi RhumbPunch,
Please download CS6 from the given link: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html and try installing. In case of any issue please try downloading from the direct link: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html .
Please follow the very important instruction before download.

  • Install Log Studio From Disc Images?

Is this doable? I just reverted my system back to Tiger. When I originally installed Logic Studio 8, it took hours, seemed like the content discs were reading at 1x As such, I wanted to try creating images of the discs and install from there. Can this be done?

Well it will take just as long ti image the disks (basically, the time it takes to read tem completely) and you'll still need to install from them afterwards anyway, so it seems rather pointless.
I can't see why you expect to install Logic so many times as to make storing 50gigs of content on a hard drive for a reinstall worthwhile.
You're much better off istalling Logic, and then using the HD space to keep a mirror backup of your data - that way, no reinstalls will ever be necessary.
But to answer your question, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. The files are not copy protected.

  • Cant install dreamweaver cs5 from dvd

    Im pulling my hair out

    What OS?
Is the DVD for an upgrade version or the full version?
You can download old versions of the program from Adobe directly below (maybe your disk has gone bad): Download and Installation Help | Download and Installation Help
You may need to install as a trial, then activate afterwards using your hard copy info.

  • Installing an app from DVD-ROM on an iMac, over the network, to an iBook G4

I have a rather broad question: my in-laws want to install Office 2008 onto an iBook G4. Unfortunately, the G4 only has a CD-ROM drive (ie, read-only), and the Office 2008 install media is DVD-ROM.
They have a new iMac (onto which Office 2008 has already been successfully installed), and my suspicion is that you can share the install disk over the network, but I can't seem to find any detailed instructions on how to do so. I am (unfortunately) Mac-less at the moment, so I can't experiment myself, and my in-laws are about 2,000 miles away, so I can't just pop over and play around until something works.
Anyone have any guidance on how to use the DVD drive on one machine as a way to install on another over the network?
The iMac has Leopard installed, the iBook G4 has the latest version of Tiger.
Don't worry, no licensing issues as it's the Student/Home edition of Office 2008; you're entitled to install it on up to three machines.

Go to System Preferences/Sharing and make sure that DVD or CD Sharing is checked. Ensure both Macs are connected to the same network. Insert the Office 2008 DVD into the Mac with the DVD drive. Open a finder window on the Mac without the DVD drive connect to the other machine. You should see the Office 2008 DVD in the finder window and you can install from here.

  • I can't install a program from dvd, finder tells me the dvd is empty...

    Hi all,
i recently restorted my laptop  to original fabric configuration. now if have reinstall all my software thats bin removed. some dvd's work but some don't.
i insert the dvd and de disk drive starts working for a while but then it sort of shuts down en start again. my disk drive repeats this for 10 minutes or so and then spits out the dvd. i get the message that the dvd is empty but its realy not....? the dvd is not dirty and its the original dvd! i installed this dvd before and all went good but now something goes wrong and i dont know what??
    Please help me out!!
    tnx
    walter!

If the disc is clean and you're sure it has data on it then all that leaves is a dirty lens - run a DVD Lens Cleaner disc through it and then see if it read them OK.
