Remote ipod shutoff and sleep modes?

Hello all,
I have a kenwood DNX9980HD car stereo.
When I plug my ipod into the connector for it, the Kenwood takes control and works flawlessly.
I want to leave the ipod in the car all the time plugged into the Kenwood.
The problem is when I shut off the car.
The Kenwood control disconnects as expected, controls go back to the ipod but the ipod doesn't shut off.
It thinks its still supposed to continue playing and will do so until the battery drains.
Then the next time I start the car, I have to wait for the ipod battery to charge before the ipod is available.
I think this is a great way to kill the battery quickly.
I can make a point of pressing pause before I shut off the car, but I'd like to make it automatic.
Is there some setting that I can activate that if its not remote controlled it turns off?
I did see this link in another topic on a similar subject, but it doesn't go to an article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60945
Dan

Okay so I finally figured this out and want to share it with you all.
When you have your ipod unhooked from your Kenwood, put it on pause.
Press and hold the play/pause button until your screen goes blank.
Then flip the switch on the top to lock the buttons.
Now attach the ipod to your Kenwood.
Whenever you start the car, the ipod wakes up because the Kenwood takes control.
Use the Kenwood ipod interface as normal.
When you shut down the engine, and thus the control interface to the ipod, the ipod reverts to the last control on its face, which was paused.
When no activity is detected for a short time (I believe 30 min) the ipod goes into the deeper sleep and no battery is used.
If you left the ipod in the play mode before you hooked it up, it will return to play mode when you turn off the car, and thus run until the ipod battery is dead.

The button on my Ipod Touch (the big one just below the screen) will not work when I press it. Nothing happens, when before it would wake my IPod out of sleep mode, and exit out of programs I was using (ex. ITunes or Safari to main screen) . Now, no reactions. When I press the button, it appears to be more indented then it was before. What should I do? Do I need to get it fixed or replaced, or is this a problem I can fix on my own? Whatever it is, I really need some advice. Thanks in advance.

  • MSI GT70 2PE Pro Shuts off after power up and sleep mode, then works

I got this laptop less than a year ago and I am kinda getting upset about my decision buying it. It is the GT70 Dominator Pro with the GTX880M graphics card.
Only thing I did was install a SSD drive for my main drive and use the 1TB drive that it came with as a storage drive. Everything was working perfectly for about 4 months without any issues.
My problem started with the laptop shutting off in the middle of playing Watch dogs and wouldnt boot to windows, so i went to the BIOS and found out for some reason it changed my primary drive to the storage so i changed it back and all was good. After about a month it similar thing happened but this time I couldnt even get to the BIOS, after pressing the F10 or whatever it is for BIOS the computer freezes in a black screen.
I contacted MSI and sent it out for warranty, they had to change the whole motherboard as it was not serviceable (Issue was a faulty MB).
Last week the laptop started acting up again, here is my issue. When powering it on the fan and light comes on but after couple of seconds it turns off, then powering it on for 2nd time it works. This happens 80% of the time, i have to turn it on twice before it works.  Even more frustrating thing is when it is at Sleep mod, I press the power to wake it up, so it does but before getting to windows screen it shuts off.
I was wondering if anyone have similar issue like mine or know what could cause this. My tower PC that i built have a MSI board and graphic card thats why I went with their laptop but I had pretty bad experience with it so far and its not a cheap laptop either. I might have to go through another warranty work if it keeps giving me the issue.

  • Driver issue? with docked T61, and 31P9490- IBM USB Travel Keyboard w/ UltraNav and sleep mode

Can someone from Lenovo please advise me on which version drivers need to be installed for the external keyboard and mouse, and/or the proper power setting(s) to use with this configuration so the machine will react and wake up from its nap with a Fn+F4 on the external keyboard?
T61  7658-CTO,  3GB RAM,  Vista Business Ultimate.  These are the external IBM/Lenovo devices used:
    250410U     THINKPAD ADVANCED MINI DOCK
31P9490    IBM USB TRAVEL KEYBOARD W/ULTRANAV
    31P8700     SCROLLPOINT PRO OPTICAL MOUSE
I have an issue with waking my T61 up from sleep mode while it’s docked and using the external keyboard, mouse, and monitor.  When the machine is docked, the blue Fn keys or the Think Vantage button do not function on the external keyboard.
The external keyboard seems to be the same as the internal keyboard installed in the TP- which I thought would react the same as the internal keyboard when I installed the driver that it came with.  I had hoped something this simple would be easier than it now seems.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the advice Izzy.  After installing both sets of keyboard and hotkey drivers it does respond to most (but not all) blue Fn key combinations as marked on the external keyboard.  The blue ThinkVantage button still does not respond.
Oddly enough, I am able to use the Fn+F4 key combination to put it into sleep mode and to bring it back out, but when the display comes back I have no control of the UltraNav pad, track pointer, or mouse.  I had to open the TP cover slightly and use the pad to get past the login screen to the desktop.
Incidently, just after using the UltraNav pad on the machine as it was slightly open a couple of messages popped up onscreen involving the USB port(s).  One indicated it was searching for a new device driver for a USB connected device, and the other indicated I could benefit from connecting the device to a high- speed USB port by unpluging the low-speed hub and connecting directly to an available high-speed USB port.
Interestingly, I don't have any external hub connected. It may have identified the docking station USB ports as low-speed, which I don't believe they are...any ideas for what to do with this new set of issues?
    Thanks, Mark

  • Having issues with 13" MacBook Pro. Running very slow and blank screen and sleep mode.

Bought my MBPro summer 2009. About a month / 6 weeks ago it began to run extremely slow at points. Now it is running poorly and getting very slow on a daily basis, to the point where it will not open applications, documents or even web pages for in excess of 5 minutes. I'm beginning to lose patience!
Also at the exact same time of these performance issues occuring, my MacBook Pro will not awaken from sleep mode when the lid is closed. Showing a blank dark screen and having to hard reset in order to boot up my system again and get it running.
What is the best solution in order to resolve these issues?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • Thinkpad X240's and Sleep mode/Hibernate

    Hi,
    We're having a problem across 4 Lenovo X240 laptops we're using (3 X 20AL-008EUK's and 1 X 20AL-0081UK) that have been bought at different times (1 in January and 3 in February)
All are having issues with sleep mode and hibernation. From various tests it seems that all were able to enter and exit sleep mode without issue once, with the red light on the lid pulsing to indicate it was in sleep mode, however when trying for a second time without a reboot the unit would appear to enter sleep mode however the red light on the lid would remain constantly on and opening the lid would just result in a plain black screen with no cursor or image whatsoever.
On a couple of units I noticed that pressing on any keys on the keyboard would emit the windows error sound, and using ctrl alt del and entering the users password would seem to login suggesting that the graphics driver had failed.
I've tried updating the drivers for the graphics adaptors and the BIOS to the latest available from the Lenovo support website as of today (27/02/14) however if anything this has made the issue worse with Windows crashing from a clean boot to a plain black screen with a mouse cursor (unable to invoke the ctrl alt del menu etc.) 3 out of 10 times across all units
Is this an known issue and are there any work arounds available? Obviously besides just not using sleep mode as we've currently rolled the solid state models out to some of management and the HDD one to a road based sales guy and all like to make use of the instant resume features.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
A client of mine brought me Lenovo X240 that wouldn't resume from sleep if you tried to resume it something like 20 minutes or more after it been put to sleep (If you resumed it after a minute or 2 it DID resume).
Lenovo replaced the X240 motherboard because of the client complains, But he said that it just increased the number of times it didnt resumed from one in 7 times to one in 2-3 times.
He also complined that when he connects headphones they doesn't work, But that was solved by updating the audio driver to a newer one.
I started reading lot of posts regarding the resume problem. Lenovo support suggested to him to do a factory restore, But he had activated accounting software on his computer and I tried not to use the factory reset option.
I tried all of the suggestions given with this issue, Here are some  :
    1. Updating bios
    2. updating all drivers (From Lenovo site and then from Driverpack 14.4 dvd)
    3. removing fingerprint software and disabling it in the bios and device manager
    4. removing relevant drivers (power management, card reader and other related) and reinstalling after restart
    5. playing with power management settings of network card
None of these worked, So I decided to keep a try for the system restore
After system restore and instalation of latest drivers (From lenovo and the Driverpack), It still DID NOT resumed from sleep after 20 minutes of sleep or so.I decided to install an image of windows 7 ultimate 32 bit for the test. After installing all the drivers it STILL wasn't solved !!!! Grrrrrr
I gave up......For few hours (Mostly because I needed to get some sleep for next day fights LOL)
Next I resumed the backup of the system I made in case I needed it, And since I saw a poster that mentioned he removed NVIDIA and Intel graphics drivers as one of the proceeses that helped him solved the problem, I tried to fiddle with it.
BUTTOM LINE After updating display drivers from intel site to 10.18, The sleep problem was resolved but then a new problem appeared - Wifi being disabled after resume from 20 minute sleep......Fiddled with it more and rolled back to  earliest 17.0.0.34 drivers and now it seems to work fine.
Maybe this solution will help you. GOOD LUCK !!!

  • HT5313 How about fixing the bugs in iCal? and Sleep Mode?

The 10.7.5 update sure has a lot of fluff patches. When is Apple going to fix something important, like all the bugs in iCal? And the bugs in Sleep Mode?
    Examples:
    • iCal events tend to pop up 30+ minutes late all day if I sleep the computer overnight. This has been going on since 10.3.9.
    • Network Issues: iChat sessions via Bonjour have to be manually restarted after coming out of sleep.
    • Disks mounted over the network dismount during sleep.
    • Screen Saver doesn't play well with other apps: I lock the screen when I'm away from my desk. If Firefox starts using all available CPU time while the screen saver is on, screen saver won't exit. This can make it very difficult to get control of the machine.
How about a patch for the above?
I'm a professional software engineer, so spare me the Blame The Customer tactics.

    PS. Best Example:
    • Last week I almost missed an appointment because iCal decided I wanted to be alerted to this event 9 hours after it happened. ... Maybe you think I typed it into iCal wrong. So what if I did? WHO THE #@$! WANTS AN ALERT *AFTER* AN EVENT HAPPENS? Why is it even an option?

  • Macbook Pro Retina 13'' - Power button and sleep mode

I just updated my Mac, which is the latest Macbook Pro Retina 13''. All of a sudden, it refuses to enter sleep mode when I press the power button, which worked perfectly fine before the update. I now have to manually enter sleep mode from the monitor. After entering sleep mode, It works fine to press the power button to make it work again, but not reverse. Why?
    Thanks in advance!

I have this problem as well. Worked perfectly before I updated to OS X Mavericks (10.9.2).
Now I have to hold the power button in for it to sleep or click on it for a few times. But there is no problem when I'm going to wake the computer up, just a single push and it works fine. Is this a software issue or a hardware issue? Any respond from Apple regarding this issue and how to solve it? Or should i contact my retailer?

  • T440 - solid state drives and sleep mode, shutting down, etc.

First time with a solid state drive.  With my T61, i tend not to actually shut it down unless i really need to.  I just leave it on, close it, and let it go into sleep mode - which i can tell its in because of the moon icon/light.  if i just need to move it around the house, i also only put it in sleep mode.  If I take it somewhere of course I shut it down first.  But that's always a pain, I tend to have multiple browser windows open with many, many tabs.  I just hate having to book mark it all (even using bookmark all tabs) then opening them all up again.
    So, I'm wondering
    1) there doesn't seem to be any light to indicate that its in sleep mode - but maybe it doesn't exist in the same way with a SSD? I was always under the impression that the point of that was to make sure the moving parts of the drive had stopped before you moved the laptop.
    2) is it still ok for me to just leave it on most of the time like I do with my T61?
    3) Can I get away with not shutting it down when I take it someplace?  Other than the battery running down - why would that be a problem since it doesn't have a spinning hard drive?
    4) Windows 8, ok this is really a different topic, but I'm here already.  When you shut it down, if for example, you have a bunch of browser windows and tabs open and maybe a couple of word docs - when its started back up, will it automatically open all that?  Or do i have to re-open all the windows, find the word files, etc.?
    5) Anything else I should know about a SSD or windows 8 that is significantly different from what i've had with my T61?  (other than the logo being upside down on the top cover)

    Hi again,
    1. The red dot over the i in ThinkPad will pulse slowly when your machine is in sleep mode.
    2. Yes, absolutely. I use sleep instead of shut down almost exclusively on all machines I use
    on a daily basis.
    3. Same as before, you don't have to worry about doing anything different. The machine won't
run out of battery during sleep mode for days.
    4. It doesn't matter wether you run Windows 7 or 8, you use your browser settings to set it to
open the tabs where you left off.
In Internet Explorer -> Internet Options -> General Tab -> Startup -> Start with tabs from the last session.
In Chrome -> Settings -> On Start Up - Continue where you left off.
Same option is available for Firefox too.
But if you shut your machine down, your programs won't start up automatically with the files you had open
before shutdown, but I'm sure you meant to say sleep, right? When you resume from sleep, everything you
had open will be right there.
    5. No, not really. It's just a new generation of a ThinkPad workhorse with a new version of Windows, you
don't have to change any of your daily routines you've gotten used to.
    Cheers,
    Atli Jarl.

  • Update 10.4.6 and sleep mode

This afternoon I updated to the latest version of OS X and since that point, my PowerBook doesn't go to sleep when I close it. That's right - the display is on with the lid completely closed. It never used to function like this (that is, the computer would automatically go into sleep mode when I would close the lid). Has any one else had something like this happen? Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

Wow - I feel stupid! That was a simple (and obvious) thing to do. Unfortunately, my display remains lit up when I close it, so I'm not sure where to go from here.
Glad it worked for you. Thanks so much for the help.

    Hello,
I first posted this post in the installation forum and then realized the question is more relevant to this forum:
I had to reinstall OS X 10.4 and now the machine goes into sleeping mode after about 10-15 minutes of inactivity. It wasn't acting like this before and I can not find where one can disable this function? There must be somewhere.
    It is updated to 10.4.11.

  • External HD and Sleep Mode

I have an external HD (USB with separate power supply) connected to my Intel iMac running OS X 10.4.10. When I try to put my iMac in sleep mode, the screen goes black (as if it's going to sleep) and then immediately comes back up and gives me the Device Removal error message. I try un-mounting this drive, put the Mac to sleep, but I get the same message. The only way to get the computer to sleep is to un-mount AND reach around and turn off the drive, which is kind of annoying. Any suggestions?

Apparently it's not an issue on my iMac, because my Macbook does the same thing. The Mad Dog hard drive enclosure that I'm using is the problem.
I also noticed that my new USB Belkin hub is doing the same thing as the hard drive enclosure. This may be an Intel chipset issue. I guess I will have to call the manufacturers to see if there is a driver update available.
