Remote phone locking - Lock your phone via text if...

This is a damn cool feature, basically once you set it up, if you lose your phone you can lock it via text message!I feel much safer now, as I have insurance but you cannot insure your privacy!
For reference the default lock code on an unbranded phone is 12345, I suggest you change this. Be warned though, the default lock code could vary if your phone is branded so check with your carrier first!
Go to Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone mgmt. > Security settings > Phone and SIM card > Remote phone locking.
Select Enable and enter a “remote locking message”. This can be anything you choose, but must be at least five characters in length.
Enter a PIN code, you will need this to unlock the phone.
Test it by using another phone and texting your phone the “remote locking message”.

you have to set the option to lock phone if sim changes, too.
so if he doesnt switch it off, you can lock the phone with a short message, if he switch it off and on again, it asks for the sim's pin code or if the theft changes the sim, it asks for the phone code. so he can only let it switched on and change the profile to offline to don't get the locking message. do you mean a theft know this all?

What I am curious about is, how do I know if what I'm sending is coming from my number as a text message or as an iMessage with my Apple ID. I'm really asking this specifically because, I have friends overseas who I have been texting..now we have iMessenger.. but how do I know it's not being sent as a text instead (therefore costing me money)? Just because it's being sent using their email?
I've used a Blackberry before, and they have their texting & BBM as two seperate applications with two seperate icons...kinda hoping Apple had done the same here :/

If the phone is off nothing can be done about it.
As is evident in the thread that aspergerguy linked you can check by sending the required sms to your phone but that guy was reporting what sounds like a bug if you do just send the message to test.
Honestly you have very little time to actually do something about a stolen phone. It's not like tracking a car which itself is not 100% effective. I don't bother with such software it's actually for the stupid thieves.

If you want your husband to receive an iMessage, you must send it to him as an iMessage yourself. Just go into the Messages app and send it to your husband's Apple ID. All e-mails (except me.com, as it is part of iCloud/iMessages) don't actually work with Messages.

RESOLVED!!! I logged on to my Straight Talk online account, and did a Tech Chat. They immediately gave me a direct phone number and a Reference PIN number and asked me to contact their iPhone specialty support. I called (of course the gentleman's accent was very difficult for me to understand, but managed with asking continually for clarity). He walked me through several tests, setting changes and had me get on my wifi to obtain the latest APN settings. None of his efforts worked ad it was obviously NOT my Straight Talk iPhone 5, 64GB CDMA (no SIM) - it was something with their setting on their end on my account. I was placed on hold a few times and he would come back on to have me try to get on Safari and even Google... after the 3rd on-hold, he returned and asked me to try to use my data again without the wifi turned on and BINGO it worked... I still do not have my wifi turned on and I'm still receiving texts from YESTERDAY too while I was away from wifi service. IF you come across this issue - please call Straight Talk and/or log on to your Straight Talk online account and talk to an online customer service representative and get their direct line phone number for iPhone support and have your Reference PIN number available. I received my N95 8Gb phone via 3 with a promotional deal of the Spiderman 3 movie already installed. Unfortunately the movie was not pre-loaded onto my phone. Your Nokia service team (UK) advised me to contact 3, who told me to contact Nokia. Nokia then told me to contact a Nokia service centre to have my phone flashed at level 3. The service centre said they could not do this. After 3 weeks the Nokia service team then again told me to go to a service centre and pay to have a Level 3 flashed on my phone at my own time and expense. I don't think this level of service is satisfactory.

Your problem is with three, they have either removed the movie from the phone (they often remove or lock features) or are supplying the version that doesn't include it.
N95 8GBs that are supplied with the movie have it pre-installed and are supplied in spiderman branded boxes. It is never supplied as a separate download.
At the end of day it's only a movie, you can buy it for £5 and transfer it to the phone with a bit of free software if you want it that badly.

I live in China as well and my iPhone5s is the model A1530 I bougth outside China. I have the same problem as Nikatnight with the iPhone while the iPad Air (wifi only) is working like a charm. It must be definitely something related to the carrier since I was abroad few days ago and everything worked well.
If you pay attention at the source of your maps, you'll discover they are provided by AutoNavi instead of TomTom and make them appear in chinese with their own border interpretation. Queries are only acceppted in Chinese (p.e. if I type in english "Los Angeles International Airport" it replies it cannot locate it)
I suppose everything will be fine when you'll be out of censorship....
Perhaps iOS Apple Maps are absolutely useless for expatriate in China.
Use Google Maps instead
BTW, I'm surprised how much Apple might prostrate towards hard power Governments.... No matter what, money are always on top!

Did you change your sim card? I had this same problem because I moved countries and had to add a 1 before the number and area code.

Of course You can also add your iPhone telephone # as a trusted device.
This way when you insert your SIM card into any phone, Apple will automatically recognize your cell phone # as a
trusted device (may be handy if iphone breaks but you insert SIM card into another phone).
HOWEVER:
Having also your iPhone as a trusted device, is convenient if you travel and use a different SIM card
at destination. This way you can still use the iphone for verification, even though you are using a different
phone #.
