Remote repeats typing

Hi there,
I am using apple remote on iOS 8.1.2 on an iphone 5s and interacting with my appleTV via the remote application.
When I have the keyboard I see repeating of some of the characters that I am typing. It appears both on the remote app and on the appleTV input field
I am trying to use the Youtube search
AppleTV software is 7.0.2 (6915)
What could be causing this?

Hello there Noah,
If I understand correctly you are using the remote app on the iPhone and it is causing any letters you tap into it to be duplicated. I would start by quitting the Remote app:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Then before launching the app again on the phone, use the remote that came with the Apple TV to restart the device in this manner:

Pavilion 15- n266a keeps repeatedly typing + signs

I have had the above laptop for just over a year (I think it is that model anyway) and everything has been absolutely fine. However, just over 2 weeks ago it started repeatedly typing the +++++++++ symbol when trying to log on, in web browsers, search bars.....anywhere it can really (we are talking 10's of times in a row minmum). I have checked the actual key and it definitely isn't stuck - I have removed the key and cleaned it. Plus when you actually press it the = symbol appears fine as you would expect. I havn't accidentally activated sticky keys either. Occasionally if I press esc it goes away for a split second only to return with a vengeance.
It seems like it is trying to type the same character even when I am not on a web page, causing the touch pad to be unresponsive so I can not even move the cursor. Again this will sometimes stop for a split second if I hit the esc key I am definitely on a windows 8 OS and possible the 64 bit version (but don't have the device in front of me). I have run a full antivirus scan, and no issues were detected of any kind. I have also run a system restore back to Feb (when the device was definitely fine) and am still getting the same problem.
I have also gone through the troubleshooting tools present on the device and they don't seem to have fixed anything either. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hello there, It sounds like there may be something under the entire keyboard. You have yet to access that part, since it requires unscrewing various screws. However, with a laptop, they most likely just won't replace one key. Other than that, you'll need to get it replaced by an Authorized Service Provider in your local area. If you can't find one, you could contact the HP Support Center, and arrange a date for your laptop keyboard to be replaced. It sounds like Accidental Damage, since a key on a keyboard doesn't randomly get stuck. Unless you have that warranty, you'll need to pay an extra fee. Best Regards,Shawn

New macbook-4 weeks old, repeated typing delays

I recently purchased my first macbook roughly 4 weeks ago and the experience has not been pleasurable. I am a law student and depend on my computer for taking notes, and unfortunately my macbook has ceased to allow me to type several times now. I will be typing and all of the sudden my words will not longer show up. I can click on the page repeatedly and nothing will happen. I either have to restart or wait for the delay to cease which often takes several minutes and I miss several minutes of notes. I purchased microsoft word when I purchased my mac. I don't know if it's a problem with the mac or with the word software. I don't know what to do and it's quite difficult to take it to be repaired when the problem shows up expectedly and quite honestly. I've had this computer for four weeks, and taking it to get repaired, at such an early stage is ridiculous to me.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? What did you do? Any suggestions?

Ipad keyboard repeats typed charachters

when typing using the ipad keyboard , for example if i search using the safari search box it will repeat the typed charachters and therefore I am unable to use the typing function properly. I have tried looking in the settings for 'repeat' or something and nothing helps. I assume it is a software issue with the interface of the touch screen and the keyboard programming. Maybe it's time for Apple to update the ipad software to fix this A.S.A.P. Any ideas anyone?? thanks.

Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
As far as moving apps to the next screen....
Move the wiggling app slowly to the side of the screen and just hold the icon over on the edge for a second or two - don't try to force that icon over - just hold the icon about halfway over to the next screen - and then the app should jump to the next screen.

Repeated typing issue in Mail

OS X 10.10.1 running on iMac 27" mid-2011 2.7GHz Intel I5 and Mail 8.1. Whenever I type a message with a contraction (for example. "I'll" ) and then hit the space bar before starting to type the next word, the cursor jumps back before the last letter of the contraction and subsequent typing proceeds as normal. As a result in this example, there is an "L" at the end of that sentence.
I'm stumped, not the biggest issue but I doubt it's just me.

Thank you for the answer. The issue was not related to the num lock, however. I had switched to GranParadiso (beta version of Firefox 3) and the problem did happen for a while. Now I use Camino 1.1 Beta almost exclusively because Firefox and GranParadiso's usage rate of CPU is too high. I realized Firefox had made my MBP quite hot.

Connecting remotely to windows pc

hi! i'm trying to connecto to my work pc...through windows I always went through remote desktop, typed in my ip address and connected...i just got an ibook g4 and tried to connect through command k, typed in the ip but it wouldn't connect...it does if i go my old windows laptop...what am i doing wrong? is there something i should be enabling on my mac?

Moloo, do you want to control your work's PC? or just connect to the computer to have access to the files?
If you want the first, you need to buy a third party app by MS (right now I can't remember the name, but I'm sure someone else here can shed some light on this).
If what you want is only the second, you need to go to sharing preferences and enable Windows Sharing. Also be sure to share something (any folder would do) on your work's PC and BE SURE your work's server is not blocking your iBook from accessing the network distantly.

How to program new remote to recognize dvd player

We are trying to program our new system Xfinity1's remote control to recognize our dvd player. When using TV input button, the up and down arrows stay on HDMI1/DVI and do not move to any other selection. Are we not going to be able to use this remote for our dvd player? The remote we have is the voice remote.

Sounds like you are talking about at least two different things. X1 remotes don't "recognize" anything accept X1 boxes. Your TV "recognizes" other devices such as DVD players. With many TVs you need to make sure the input your DVD player is connected to is actually activated in the TVs settings.
Also, X1 remotes cannot control DVD players. Period.
The input changing issue is ENTIRELY different. The input button on the X1 remotes has limitations. If you press the input button on the Comcast remote repeatedly and it doesn't cycle the inputs on your TV, then it is not going to work.

Firefox allows me to add some pages as bookmarks and not others. For pages that don't work: when I click the star, it turns blue when I click, then goes back to being empty.

Last night I finally sat down to learn how to use Bookmarks. I had no problem creating and organizing bookmarks, but there are some pages that I cannot bookmark. One, for example, is the Gmail log-in page, which I use multiple times a day. I type in www.gmail.com, which routes me to a longer URL and the log-in page. When I click the star to make this page a bookmark, it won't work. I've also tried using the menu option "Bookmark This Page," which also doesn't work for this website. It's seems to be hit and miss as to when Firefox will allow me to bookmark a page and when it won't. I've had no problem adding many other pages; it just seems that with a handful of them I run into this issue.
I've tried closing Firefox and re-opening, which doesn't help, but that is about the extent of my troubleshooting attempts. This problem has been an issue for me for a couple of years and through several versions of Firefox. (I think I am currently running the most recent version.) It actually led me to believe early on that either Firefox Bookmarks didn't work or I just didn't have the time to figure it out. So since I've been using Firefox I have been repeatedly typing the names of my most frequented sites. I finally took time to sit down with it again last night and have found that Bookmarks will be a huge help. If I could only get ALL of my favorite pages to work...

None of the stuff in " http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite " helps. I have tried and tried and I have even wipe the computer clean still didn't help. I got the same problem as he/she has got in the first posted. Can add some web pages but not all the web pages I want.. I should have never updated to 3.6.13... That's when it all started for me, from that version..... Now Version 3.6.14 is out, I was hoping the version 3.6.14 might would fix the problem wrong again....
Funny thing is i can not even Bookmark Firefox.com!!!!!...lol
So any ideas on how to fix it other than the link giving would help.

How to set up Airport Express to extend Buffalo WHR HP 54g wireless router

Contrary to what official Apple policy is, it is possible to use Airport Express as a remote repeater using a Buffalo router.
I sent hours setting up this network and wish to share what I learned
I only wanted to use the Airport Express as a repeater to distribute the internet to the far reaches of the house--no iTunes, no Printer, and I did not bother setting security. If you want to add any of those features please make sure that the basic setup is working as described below. I have no idea how to successfully set up these features. My advice is to search the internet for guidance.
Anyway: how to set up the Buffalo wireless access router to work with Airport Express
Setting up the Buffalo:
From the routers home page of 192.168.11.1, hit the "advanced" box at the top
1.     Go the "Wireless config"   "basic" item. Give name to your network (spaces are allowed), lets call it "WIRENAME" and select wireless channel 1 or 6 or 11. These channels have the least interference and will tend to work when the others do not.
2.     Go the the "repeater" item under Wireless config. . " Enable" repeater/bridge (WDS). Next register the MAC address of the Airport Express. Record both the LAN and Wireless MAC addresses.
That is about it. Your Buffalo system Info page should look like this

For the Airport express: here is a summary of what the settings are: Start Airport Express Utility and when it comes up
Select "Manual" setup
On the Base station tab: Give Airport Express a name, any name and any password. Do not select the box: Allow setup over the internet with Bonjour
On the wireless tab: Wireless mode: Participate in a WDS network
Network name: the name you gave in the Buffalo router: EG: WIRENAME
Radio mode: 802.11n(802.11b/g compatible)
Channel : the same as you set in the Buffalo
Wireless security: None
WDS tab: WDS mode: WDS remote
Check: allow wireless clients
WDS main: the MAC address of the wireless (not LAN) side of the Buffalo router
Access control tab: MAC address access control: Not enabled
At the top of the control box , click on the Internet icon
     Internet connection: Connection sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)
     TCP/IP: Configure iPV4 : Using DHCP
     I put in the address of the DNS servers listed on the Buffalo System info page above.
At the top of the control box Music Icon: I did not enable AirTunes
Printer icon: did not set this up
Advanced icon: leave every thing alone
That is it. Just do everything as above and your Airport Express will act as a repeater. (And save yourself a couple of days struggle.)

IChat AV 3.0.1 Set-Up For Netgear RP614 v2 router

I have been having constant intermittent problems with iChatAV 3.0.1 (OS 10.4.2) on my PB G4. The error I get is "Insufficient Bandwith" when I try to connect with a PC (using Trillian Pro) or MAC (using iChatAV). I have the cable modem plugged into the Netgear. I then plug a PC, X-Box, Laser printer and an Airport Extreme (configured as a remote repeater) into the Netgear. I use the Airport Extreme wirelessly with my PB G4 17" and an Airport Express in my stereo for iTunes. The Netgear was configured to have all blocking turned off, manually set IP addresses for all computers and X-Box. And the UPnP enabled along with the maximum open port settings for iChatAV (TCP & UDP @ 1024-65535) for use with AOL/Trillian programs. If anyone has the Netgear RP614 v2 router working perfectly with the iChatAV 3.0.1, please post the settings ASAP. I talked with Apple service yesterday and they illuted that they have a problem with the bandwith errors. They said they are working on it !

From this page http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/RP614/default.htm I can see that you must have a newer firmware then the pics show as UPnP is not on there.
Static Addreses do seem to do better in some cases.
The PC applications should be able to use UPnP but I am not sure about the X-Box.
You should not need to port forward all ports and do UPnP at the same time. I would turn off the Port Forwarding you have and use it only for the X-Box, if needed, on the ports it needs.
The error mesages and Connection Doctor details are not as good in iChat 3 as they were in iChat 2 (and those took some working out).

Cluster typedef doesn't update correctly

Hello everyone,
I am new to using typedef controls so i'm hoping that I just overlooked something simple. I am using a cluster typedef control in Labview 8.6 consisting of enumerated controls and a few numeric controls. I've noticed that when I change the typedef cluster, it does not update properly on the VI in which it is used. A specific example, which has been driving me crazy:
I decided that I need to change one enumerated control within the cluster so it's name is more descriptive and it has more options. So i open the typedef control, change the name, and add two items through edit items... Save and Close.
Now, when I open the main VI that I use, I see that the name of the enumerated control has updated, but the new list items are missing. Since Auto-update is selected, I can't click Apply Changes, since they were technically already updated. To get around this I have to delete the typedef control and add it back in.
Since the name is updating, I know that it is linked properly. Did I do something wrong when making the typedef control? I've attached the control itself, although I doubt this will help.

I'd like to push this up to the labview dev folks and ask why could a string outputing version of an enum not be created and functional as a type def. I understand the difference between enums an rings. But I would like to suggest that the powers that be create a data type version for strings similar to the enum which updates all instances of a type def when changes are made to the string content within.
To draw a parallel. An enum pairs the string label with a number and packages the two as part of the type def. Instead could we not pair the string label with a string and again package the two as a type def? You could choose to have the label and string content match or not as needed but the pair would update universally.
Here is one instance where this would be useful. I have been using the Asynchronous Message Communication Library lately which utilizes the standard Labview queue funcitons. While the standard queue functions can accept various data types the AMC library is limited to string messages only and rewriting the entire AMC lib is time prehibitive.
So it would be very convienent to have something that looks like a combo box constant as a type def to feed into the AMC libraries instead of individual string constants. It would significantly reduce errors when repeatedly typing the same sting constants repeatedly only to find them the hard way after hours of debug.

My wife’s 2012 Macbook Pro has Yosemite and is using Wi Fi for the internet connection.
Every time, both on startup and awaking from sleep, a window appears on the desktop with a locked icon saying, “Networksetup is trying to modify this system. Type your password in to allow this”.
The window (which can’t be moved or dragged) shows the computer’s user name. The password has to be repeatedly typed in as many as 10 times and the highlighted ‘modify configuration’ box clicked before the window disappears and the computer then functions normally.
Needless to say, this is driving my wife up the wall… I would certainly appreciate information on how to get rid of this troublesome window!

Cant copy text and paste into google search box

i like to copy text an paste instead of repeatedly typing and the paste function in the right click menu is greyed out. cant paste

SUPPLEMENT TO MY PREVIOUS POST
The copy and paste into dialog boxes works just fine. I suspect that my earlier problem was due to not being familiar with the new computer's keyboard. I am used to the CTRL key being located at the bottom left of the keyboard. The new keyboard has the Fn key in that position. I must have pressed Fn instead of CTRL. The old habits die hard. I feel like for not noticing this earlier.
