Remote shares....

I setup WebLogic 5.1.0 Server last week on a Solaris 8 machine. The
developers here told me that they need to be able to mount the weblogic
directory on their local machines(Win2k, 98, 95, NT). I am playing
around with SAMBA, but I wanted to make sure that they definitely need
to have a remote filesystem mounted to use WebLogic. Is there another
way to allow them to "develop" without mounting a share on the WebLogic
server?
Thanks,
Ben

There is an NFS client for Win9x and WinNT from:
http://www.intergraph.com/nfs/
I used DiskShare with Solaris as a client to NT and it worked great (or
greatly I suppose ;-). I haven't used it the other way (DiskAccess or
AccessNFS).

  • Systemd and nm_dispatcher (on remote shares)

    Hi,
On my laptop I'm using systemd and networkmanager, like many of you I suppose.
I have an NFS-server setup at home and one at work, so I would prefer to only connect to the NFS-server within my reach and not send out credentials into the wild when the other NFS-server is not around. I thought that nm_dispatcher is the perfect solution and I wrote a script that accomplishes this with the sysV initscripts.
Now I'm using systemd and my laptop won't shutdown anymore: it hangs at unmounting my disks.
I guess the nm_dispatcher-script to unmount the NFS-exports is never run, and so the NFS-exports are never unmounted.
    Questions:
    1. Is this the expected behaviour or is this a bug somewhere?
    2. Can systemd do this natively? I know it is able to mount remote shares, but can you also specify that the mount should only be tried if connected to a specific SSID?
    THX!

Sharepoints is not needed in your case, it's for controlling what "other" Isers can access.
Logging into the Remote one with the Remote one's User &PW gives you the samr rights as being there and logging onto it!

After years without a problem, I am suddenly unable to remote share my work computer at home.  I haven't done any updates recently and did not make any changes to the setup.  It was working Monday night and stopped working Tuesday morning.  I am at a loss for what could have happened.   Anyone have any thoughts?

it sounds like your work changed something on their network.  Try asking your IT people if they recently blocked any ports related to remote management or changed their firewall settings to block incoming connections.

  • Finder cannot open files on remote shares

When browsing files and folders on remote shares (smb) via finder, some files and/or folders are greyed and cannot be opened.
Accessrights are correct, concerned files can be opened with uCommander by example.

    Thanks for any suggestions,

I fixed my problem by installing Mavericks again. No need to fully restore.

  • SGP311 KitKat - mounting remote shares

Hi, Prior to the KK update, I used ES as my file manager. This allowed me to manipulate/copy files on my NAS. Now that File Commander is the only FM that can manipulate files on the SD card, I have to copy onto internal storage using ES, then move to SD using Commander. When I quizzed Mobisystems on this, they pointed to the Z1 forum and told me to use Settings > Storage > Remote Shares to mount the shares, then Commander would be able to do the necessary. The problem is that there is no 'Remote Shares' option under Settings > Storage.... Does anyone with the KK update on SGP311 have this option (in which case a repair might fix it), or have Sony utterly cocked this update up? PS I use s/w that will only run on non-root devices.....

I've just spoken to Sony about this, with laughably abject results.
First, a clearer exposition of my problem:
    - Under 4.3, I used ES File Explorer, since that has all the functionality I require, crucially including access to NFS/SMB shares
    - Google removed the ability of 3rd-party apps to write to SD for the KitKat release
    - Sony chose File Commander to be the bundled file manager for their 4.4.2 stock ROMs
    - File Commander cannot independently access remote shares (some cloud services, yes, but not J Random NAS)
    - I didn't update to KK until a new File Commander update came out claiming to give access to remote shares for Xperia KitKat devices
    - On update to KK, I found that I was still only given the option of cloud services under the remote share tab
    - Mobisystems support pointed me at this link on the Z2 forum, describing how to mount remote shares via 'Settings' > 'Storage' > 'Remote Shares'
    - I pointed out to Mobisystems' support that there was no 'Remote Shares' under 'Settings' > 'Storage', which left them puzzled and unable to offer any further advice.
So, on to the call today. After explaining the situation:
    - Well it's Google's fault you can't write to SD (yes, but it's your fault I can't see my NAS in the provided file manager)
    - We don't write the app to do this (no, but you made a deliberate decision to include software that could, should and erroneously claims to support this)
    - It's not our responsibility to provide such functionality (and yet, through storage settings, you provide this for other devices in the range.... And your technology partner certainly thought it was - and that you did)
    - We're sorry you're sad (I'm not sad, I'm fuming)
It was obvious we were getting nowhere, so I asked how I could escalate the issue.
"You can't", I was flatly informed.
After to-ing and fro-ing, they said they would pass it on to the developers.
    <sarcasm> Which I fully believe </sarcasm>
    Shoddy work from Sony.

  • Mounting Remote Shares with the Same Name

I am accessing shares on remote servers and can mount volumes with no problems initially, using command+k and setting the Server Address to smb://ServerNameOrIP/SharePoint. This mounts a volume with the name of the share point. The problem I've run into is at work I need to mount 2 volumes on 2 different servers with the same share point name. These are shared servers, and for unrelated reasons the folder names on either server can not be changed. This doesn't work well for me. It creates the first volume with the name "Share" and a second one that in finder appears to be called "Share" as well, but if I use "Get Info" or in Terminal run ls /Volumes I can see that it actually gets mounted as "Share-1".
Is it possible to change the name of one (or both) of these mounts? Mostly so I can see which one I'm on when browsing though Finder. I changed some settings in Finder so that the title bar allows me to see whether I'm on "Share" or "Share-1" but that doesn't actually tell me what server I'm on. Any ideas?

I just discovered this after trying frivolously to get 2 shares of the same name from 2 different NAS drives to auto mount ....
limitation with autofs or something ? it should really be painless, as it is in windows. but it seems on the mac side, OS X won't allow shares with the same name to auto mount ....

  • Unavailable remote share freezes computer

Reliably, when connecting to a remote drive that is unavailable (in my case a 10.7 Lion Server afp share) the entire os seems to freeze-up for 30 seconds or more. I'm led to believe that this connection is the problem, because when a finder dialog pops up stating that the server is unavailable - everything unfreezes.
I have also noticed this in connecting to other servers/shares (i.e. DroboFS)
    All Gigabit Connections.
    Anyone else? Any work arounds?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
Before providing you any information, please reply additional details from your side.
    1.  Can you successfully logon to the RDS server after it freeze for while?
    2.  Do all clients encounter the same issue? If not, please help to check RDC client version    on the problematic client.
    3.  Have you try to temporarily disable all firewall to check if this issue can be resolved?
    4.  Did you find any Event log on server side for root cause?
The issue which you are facing might occurs due to preparing network connection, or might if possible any 3rd party software cause this issue. Here suggesting you to check network traffic and also try to use latest RDP v 8.0 or 8.1(Temporary unavailable for
    up gradation) for better experience.
    Hope it helps!
    Regards.

  • Locate, identify and delete/disable a remote sharer/user

How can I locate, identify and delete/disable a remote user?
I have already disabled guest account, disabled and locked share files etc.yet I still suspect they are accesssing my hard drive and internet.
I also want to know if it is possible to find a username of the remote user on my hard drive that can possibly identify them?
    Thank you

Thanks Eric, i have turned on the firewall recently, and after your advice just checked the terminal. As I had to re-install OS X Ia am the only user in history, But that is Useful to know for the future. At times, when I open security, share or accounts in System Preferences I find the padlock unlocked. Especially of late when I am very mindful of double checking they are locked before I close down that window.
I Suspect an ex friend who is a workmate accessed my computer or took my original start-up disks, then returned without knowing, is there any way of knowing if they have access on their computer from using those discs somehow? I Know it sounds all too 'conspiracy theory', lol,  but it is something I've had brought to my attention.
    Thanks, your advice is appreciated

  • Remote share screen set up

I have an ADSL connection through a KPN Experia Box (router). I have connected my Airport Express to this router with an ethernet Cable. My MacBook an iMac run perfectly on the Airport Express. I see both computers and I can share the screens.
Now I would like to be able to do the same when I am not home, so from another place "take over" the screen of my iMac at home.
Can someone help me to set this up? I suppose that I first need to get acces to my router and from there to the Airport Express...? I am not very good in this networking business, please help...

First of all make sure your airport express is setup as a bridge and not set to share your public ip address.
Then the best way to do screen sharing is through SSH as SSH is very secure.
So login to your router's WebUI. This is done by putting its IP address into your browser.
    eg http://192.168.2.1
Then check what dhcp pool your router is using. Then assign the mac you will designate as your server a static ip address that is outside the range of ip's the dhcp pool is using.
Then setup a port forwarding rule (NAT) to forward tcp port 22 to the ip of your mac.
Then in your macs sharing preferences turn on remote login and screen sharing.
Then you would need a dynamic domain address get one from http://dyndns.com
then setup a dyndns client on your mac (your router may have one so check that first)
so if you got dyndns domain name such as myfunkserver.thru-here.net
when you are away from home open your terminal and use the following login
    ssh -L 5901:localhost:5900 [email protected]
once that connection is established open
    /System/Libary/CoreServices/Screen Sharing.app
and use a host address of localhost:5901

  • Application Deployment from Remote Share

I have a particularly large application I need to deploy and the source changes reasonably frequently so I don't want to add it to normal distribution points within SCCM. By that, I mean I don't want the entire 6GB to be copied up to the SCCM server, I want
it to stay put where it is, and the installer run from the share that it is currently on. Is there any way to achieve that?
And also, is there a way to stop the application downloading to the clients, again just installing from the share. So the app source doesn't get copied to the server or client at all?

Thanks, that sounds like a good compromise! By the way, how long does the client cache installs? i.e. if I went for the full deployment model so all 6gb got put in the DP and then cached to clients, will that 6gb cache stay forever? or can you tell it not
    to cache at all?
Also, for a conventional deployment, what happens if the source files (on a different network share originally) get deleted or removed, does the DP continue to deploy the software and only have problems if it needs to update / refresh?

  • Anyone using FCP's file manager to remotely share files, anyone using FCP's file manager to remotely share files?

    Hi:
I am looking to build a solution for a prospective client.  I want to use FCP server's file manager to allow remote users to access and obtain content.  This arrangement is actually for healthcare solution. I know FCP is used to manage and transfer files, but I am not sure what controls, access, etc are available to make assurances these files are not manipulated.

I've been using FCP for a long time and I do not know of "file manager" tool. Are you looking for an evaluation of FCP Server? That's a different forum, not many users of that app here.

  • FrontRow bug playing slide shows with music on remote share

I found a new bug with FrontRow playing slideshows using music stored on a shared drive. I tried with AFP & NFS shares, but I suspect the same will apply to SMB shares. Here are the steps to repro the problem:
    1) Define a new iTunes playlist
    2) Add songs to the playlist from a shared drive
    3) Define a new album and add photos to it.
    4) Hit play -> Music and choose the iTunes playlist you just defined. Click on "Save Settings"
    5) Go to FrontRow, locate your album and play it. After a few seconds, in which FR appears to time out, it will play the album with music from the standard library, instead of your iTunes library.
WORKAROUND: Play the Album from iPhoto, only a couple of seconds, enough for iPhoto to pick the right music from your iTunes playlist. Next time you go to FR and play the album it will chose the correct music.

    I don't know what MB Pro you have... 2008 early/late, 2009, mid 2010, etc. ???
Also, what Audio inputs are available for your HDTV?
Not knowing these things for sure, here are your options:
    1. If the HDTV has "Optical Audio" input then you can use this cable to get audio (regardless of what model MBP you have) This kind of audio input is often referred to as Toslink.
I resolved the problem on my machine unexpectedly
    2. If the HDTV only has RCA stereo inputs then you need this cable (again regardless of MBP model)
    http://www.amazon.com/RiteAV-3-5mm-Stereo-Male-Cable/dp/B000V0G2C4/ref=sr12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1292163583&sr=1-2
If you do have Toslink available on the TV, that is the better choice. Also a perk with Toslink is it even provides 5.1 surround sound capability which is available from your MBP.
As for your Macbook Pro, only the current 2010 models provide audio and video via the mini display port. So, if you your MBP is new, you could use this adapter, mini display to HDMI, then run a standard HDMI cable to your TV.
    http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Female-Adapter-Macbook-Laptop/dp/B002HU629E/re f=sr11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1292163818&sr=1-1
Earlier MBP that have Minidisplay port only provide video out so you'd still need #1 or #2 above to deliver audio.
If your MBP has DVI port for video, that as well only provides a video signal so #1 or #2 above would apply.
This should cover all of the possibilities.

  • Remote share libraries in iPhoto

    Hi all,
    Thanks in advance.
I work as a tech coordinator at a small children's school. There are 5 classrooms throughout the school. There exists an iMac desktop in the staff room, and staff can use one of two laptops to roam around the school. I have set up a wireless router + range expander for networking.
The problem is this. Because all photos will live on the desktop, I have set it up so that laptop users will be able to access the shared libraries on the desktop. This allows teachers to store and retrieve their photos (10000+ total) from a central location. However, this only works when the two laptops are near the desktop and within the range of the wireless router. When I move into the ranger expander range (even though it's the same IP and same subnet), the laptops can't retrieve the shared libraries anymore.
My question is...a) if anyone knows how to fix this, and b) whether the shares are broadcasted from the desktop itself or shared on the network. In a way, this would make sense if the libraries are broadcasted from the desktop rather than shared on the network. Though, I don't think that's how iTune works.
Let me know if you have any ideas. Any comments/ thoughts/ ideas/ solutions would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks.

    amorelane:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I can't help you as it seems more of an wireless router issue that might better be answered in the forum for the Mac system you're running on your Macs. It's apparent that the wireless extender is the roadblock and someone in the other forum or even the Airport forum might have a better handle on it. Good luck.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Sharing a remote share with windows

    Hi folks
Ive got an archbox fileserver and it runs samba sharing some folders. I can also mount my web host using sshfs. If i then try to share that using samba (which im not sure is possible) windows throws a wobbly and has to be rebooted (cannot do anything to get into task manager)
Is there something im doing wrong or another means of achieving this?

Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "printer sharing." One of the articles is titled, "Sharing your printer with Windows users." It explains what to do.

  • Can i remotely share files between macbook pro and iMac

Want to know if I can do remote file sharing between macbook pro and imac.

Yes, absolutely. She can access her iMac from anywhere that has an Internet connection. If Screen Sharing is enabled, she can log in and use it as if she were seated at the iMac.
Provided the iMac's router supports the Bonjour Sleep Proxy (obviously all Apple AirPort Base Stations do), the iMac can even be asleep, and BTMM will wake it upon the router receiving a request to access the iMac.
The speed of her available Internet connection will be a limiting factor. Slower connections will be a bit laggy.
Her iMac will appear in a Finder Sidebar, under "Shared".
