Remote Speaker Selection

I use to have the option to select two speaker choices, like one for my airport"livingroom" and than computer -- and play them both at the same time. I am not able to do that any more- any ideas ?

Does this help?
iTunes uses UDP port 5353 to locate AirPort Express base stations that can be destinations for your AirTunes music stream. Make sure this port is allowed through your firewall.

  • Itunes remote speaker using Airport Express and Extreme

I have purchased an Airport Extreme and Airport Express, so I can listen Itunes music on my stereo system. For some reason, there is simply no remote speaker selection button on the bottom right of the Itunes windows. Does it has to do with the fact that I am using an old Mac OS X?
My Macmini has no airport card, so I connected the ethernet to the Airport extreme, and plugged the Airport express few feet from the base. Nothing but an orange tilting light comes out of the little box. I can surf the net perfectly but the Itunes is ignoring all my investment on the couple of Airport boxes i purchase...What I am doing wrong?

Yes, I thought that purchasing the Airport extreme as
the ethernet interfase directly connected to the
MacMini, was almost the same as having the airport
card inside the Mini. Where did I get lost?? I have
the extreme directly to the mini, and an express
plugged somewhere close and nothing happens...
The problem is that the mini can only stream iTunes to an Airport Express via Airport. While you have connected it to an Airport basestation, as far as the mini is concerned, it is working via ethernet because that's how the data is leaving the system. It doesn't have an Airport card, thus it can't stream iTunes content to an Airport Express.

  • Remote speaker being used by someone else

Using iTunes 10.0.1.22 on Windows XP. Have Airport Express hooked up and am using the latest updates to AE. Was able to connect iTunes to AE just fine until I updated iTunes to 10.0.1.22. Now, I keep getting the error message "the remote speaker is currently being used by someone else. please select another speaker from the bottom of the iTunes window." I don't have another speaker, just Computer and the AE (which is connected to a receiver connected to speakers). I was able to listen to my iTunes library thru iTunes or Pandora with AE. I can still listen to Pandora, but every single time I try to listen to iTunes I get the same error message. I've been debugging this for 2 weeks to no avail. I've contacted RogueAmoeba and they have been great trying to help, but nothing works. I'm beginning to think this is an Apple/iTunes problem/bug.
In iTunes-Preferences-Devices, I do have "Look for remote speakers connected with Airplay" checked and "Allow iTunes control from remote speakers" checked which is supposed to allow you to control iTunes with a third-party remote connected to AirPort Express. I admit I'm not sure I understand Airplay and how it works or not works with Airport Express. I'm connected wireless to AE and my computer.
Any ideas what's wrong...this is driving me nuts and I miss my music!
    Thanks!

Then in that case since you get audio when the Apple TV is used with other devices I have to assume the problem lies with the receiver and with a little luck is nothing more than a setting.
The message about the speaker being used by someone else is interesting and possibly related possibly not. That message will appear if the Apple TV is already playing something and you try to play something else by Airplay. I assume when the Apple Tv is connected to your receiver you receive the message all the time, even if you play something from the Apple TV and let it finish. What about when you connect the Apple TV to another device, under what circumstances do you get the message then.

  • Remote speaker not compatible

So I just tried to use iTunes to stream music to my remote speaker, which I've had connected and been using without problems for many years. I have upgraded to iTunes 7.2, but I did this awhile ago.
Nevertheless, I got the following error message when I tried to select my remote speaker: "The remote speaker 'Euterpe' is not compatible with this version of iTunes." I haven't updated the version recently, and I used the speakers without a problem on Tuesday of the past week.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have recently installed security updates that were prompted via the automatic software update, but I didn't see anything specifically mentioning changes to iTunes.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

So I answered my own question, but, in case any one else has this problem, it required updating the firmware on my Airport Express. I don't know why it took so long for the incompatibility to manifest, but I suspect the recent security update was the proximate cause. In any case, the firmware update (V6.3) fixed it.

  • Intermittent Remote Speaker

I have a MAC and two PC computers that run iTunes 7.0.2. Each computer (one at a time) has been playing to two remote speaker systems in the house just fine for some time.
Just recently (possibly after upgrading to 7.0.2), even though both remote speaker systems and computer speakers are seen by iTunes in all computers, if I try to play more than one remote system (Airport Express for each remote) from the three selections see by the each computer(computer, living room, tv room), the two remote selections won't play. I can select "computer speaker" only by itself or only one remote at a time. If I select more than one remote at a time, or a remote and computer, I get, "An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "xxx". An unknown error occurred (-3256).
    Any ideas what's going on?
iMac and PC   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   PC's have Windows XP and Professional

This is a firewall issue most likely. I was having the same problem. And I went to my firewall (norton internet security) and disabled it, and it worked.
Then I went in and gave iTunes the permission to do everything and it worked fine as well.
There is an apple support ticket that almost covers it, but brings up UDP as the culprit.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303157
However, my firewall had allowed UDP, so it might be something else that the firewall is blocking.

  • Airtunes unable to find remote speaker

    Hi,
Ever since I upgraded to the latest version of Airport, iTunes always gives an error when starting up. The error is:
The remote speaker "WDS Remote" cannot be found on your network. Please verify
your network setting and AirTunes configuration or select another speaker from
the menu at the bottom of the iTunes window.
WDS Remote is the name of my Airport Express Base Station. Once iTunes finally starts I can then select WDS Remote as my destination for Airtunes, so I'm not missing any functionality. It's just a pain to get an error message that isn't really an error. Any ideas how to stop this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Thanks for the response. Repairing permissions doesn't fix the issue. And the Base Station doesn't appear in the Sound pane of System Preferences. I'm not sure that could be added.
Another data point: If I quit iTunes and then start it again soon afterwards, the error message doesn't appear. If I wait too long (and I'm not sure what "too long" means) the error message will reappear.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • How to play music simultaneously both on my computer and the remote speaker

I have an existing wi-fi station and one Airport Express, but I can not play music simultaneous both on my computer and the remote speaker. I just can select only one speaker.
My iTunes is the latest Windows version 6.03.5, but I can not see the option of "multiple speakers" on the bottom-right menu. What is the problem? How can I do if I want to play music simultaneously both on my computer and the remote speaker?
    Thank you!

On that note, long story short, it was very helpful for me to download the latest firmware. Here's a link for the Windows download. Try this first, if you haven't already. One of the fixes "-Resolves issue with Audio dropout when playing to AirPort Express with AirTunes". Not exactly your issue, but worth a try.

I just purchased my AirPort Express, too bad they don't recommend updating firmware in BIG BOLD LETTERS, and who would think to do so if the equipment is brand new...anyways, good luck.

  • Error - Remote speaker not compatible with this version of itunes

Alright - I give..itunes (v7.2) with airport express for airtunes
I have a toshiba laptop (Win XP) that streams itunes to remote speakers just fine..but my desktop (Win XP - Dell Dim E510 with wireless) when I switch speaker to remote speakers, comes back with message - "the remote speaker xxx is not compatible with this version of itunes"...both computers have the same version of itunes..both computers can access airport express for adminstrative actions - Airport Express is connected to a stereo..any idea what is the problem?

    Ditto here.
    Mac OS 10.4.9. iTunes 7.1.1 (5)
Airport Extreme Base Station "chained" to 2 Aiport Express Remotes. All connections are fine. Have internet on remote Macs. Airport Admin utility displays all three airport units, but I'm now unable to broadcast to the remote Express hooked up to my stereo in adjacent room. Have done this many times in the past without problem, but not in past couple months, so can't say if it broke with 7.1 or 7.1.1, but I get this message from iTunes:
The remote speaker "Living Room Speakers" is not compatible with this version of iTunes.
Prior to restarting iTunes (and being sure all Aiport station firmware was up-to-date, I was getting the message that no speakers were connected (double-checked all speaker and stereo connections), but now just the "not compatible" message.

  • What wireless speakers will work with the "remote speaker" feature?

I want to use the remote app on my iphone to control my itunes library and was considering purchasing some speakers to put out by my pool. My question is what kind of speakers will itunes detect? what technology are we talking about? RF, Bluetooth?

iTunes itself, that is it's built-in remote speaker function, will work only with an Airport Express. There may be other wireless speakers that have their own drivers or transmitter; someone else here may be able to make a recommendation.

  • "can't find remote speaker"

AirPort works fine for an hour or two, but then the audio dies and iTunes says (something like) "can't find remote speaker".
I have to disconnect from the network and connect again. "repairing wireless connection" also works.
Do you know of any way around this problem?
    Thanks,
    Peter

Try changing the channel used by your wireless network (or by the Airport Express itself if it is being used as a standalone device). Some experimentation may be required - start with either channel 1 or 11.

  • How to change language in speak selection

    Hello!
Once i bought my fourth gen ipod touch, default voice in "voice over" and "Speak selection" was British Eglish.
Some day i had to restore my ipod, and i did, after that default language was US English with female voice!
I found out how to change language in "Voice Over",even found Russian(no necesserity in using it, but its one of my native languages). Still "Speak sellection" was US English.
When i turn Voice over on, it speaks selection with right language, but it's very hard to operate every time to just hear pronaunciaton of one word(that could be spoken with submenu of "copy, paste, cut, define, speak")
So i'm wondering, why does changing language of "VoiceOver" not affect speak sellection in normal mode? and how to make it speak different languages?
    Thank You!

    first state:
"VoiceOver" language:British English (man voice)(i selected it by myself)
Speak selection ("VoiceOver"assist is ON) : British English.
    State 2:
    VoiceOver language:British English
Speak selection ("VoiceOver" assist is OFF) : US English (female voice)
BEFORE restoring "Speak seletion" language was British English by default.
and i want to know how to make it back.
