Remote speaker settings for airtunes

I'm running airport express as my wireless router but want to take advantage of the airtunes to play from my home stereo. There is no way to have the airport in the same room as my stereo because of the phone jack so my question is should i buy another airport express (at $150) to plug into my stereo while the other one runs the wireless network or should i find another wireless router (hopefully cheaper but as good) and use the one i have for music? Any suggestions or alternative solutions would help alot.
As well, what settings (Aux, Digital in, etc...) would my stereo have to be on to run the airtunes signal if I were to use the optical digital mini jack?
Thanks in advance.

If your intent is to only stream iTunes with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), then you will find it more economical to acquire a non-Apple router, like the Linksys WRT54G for Internet connectivity, and then configure the AX as a wireless client.

You would need to connect a mini jack-TOSLINK cable between the AX and the digital audio optical port on your stereo.

  • Remote Control settings for Markers

The user manual for Studio Pro 4 states that Remote Control settings for Markers will override all other settings while that part of the track or story plays.
This however, is not the case- In my project the track & story settings for Remote Control>Menu are actually overriding marker Remote Control>Menu settings, & I really need the marker functions to take precedence over other functions.
Any idea how I can make this happen?
    Thanks!!
    eric

As Jake said - I am not seeing this behaviour either.
If you clear all end jumps from chapter markers and place the markers into stories then you set the menu call for the story. This can be different to the track and depending on which you are playing the menu call for that item will take precedence.
Of course, if you really want to make it bullet proof then you could point the menu call to a script. Assuming that no matter which story you are in, or how you got to the marker in the track, the following script will always return you to a specific button on a menu for the marker that you have just played
    mov GPRM0, SPRM7
    Jump Menuname, [GPRM0]
SPRM7 is a system parameter that checks which marker has just played. The first line of the script loads the value of this into a memory slot called GPRM0. The second line operates a jump to your menu - I assume there is only one menu here - and using a conditional GPRM based button jump, the value of GPRM0 fills in the value of the button to go to. This saves writing out lines of code for each possible button.
If you have lots of menus then this script can be adapted very easily to cope with that, or you can set up other scripts to identify which menu you have come from so as you know which to go back to.
However, before any of this I would want to know why you are not getting the expected behaviour on our project - my guess is that there is going to be a menu call set into a chapter marker which is over-riding the track or story menu call. If you have end jumps on markers, or menu calls on markers, remove them.

  • Maps Remote Database settings for E71

I live in South Africa, and require the Maps Remote Database settings to sync my favourites with phone and vice versa.... Can anyone help please?

Remote Databas settings is used to integrate ACS with an oracle or sql database to generate reports in your environment.
If you are worried about the logs being generated it would be best to setup the removal and backup configuration and point your acs to either a ftp or nfs repostoring.

  • Speaker settings for multiple outpu

    Hi,
I have a SB Audigy from which I have connected both the supplied 5. surround speakers and an amplifier in the living room. The main method of listing to music from the pc is through the amplifier (connected to stereo speakers). My question is, in the sound and audio configuration should I set the speakers to be "5. surround" or "Desktop Speakers"?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    jonwolds,
It seems to me, if I understand your question correctly, that you would want to set your speakers to 5. when using the 5. speakers and to stereo (or 2/2. ) when listening through your stereo amplifier. If you use the 5. speaker setting with your stereo amplifier, you'll only hear the front left and right channels. I don't think you would like that. (Do you have an EAX Console with a CMSS option?)

  • Remote Speaker (AirTunes) Error - "the network connection failed"

I am getting a strange error message when I try to stream music through an AirTunes remote speaker. iTunes tells me this:
*An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "NN". The network connection failed.*
I can't say what has changed for this error to occur. Last time I used the system it worked fine, now it doesn't. I do know I have upgraded iTunes a couple of times since, though.
I am connecting to an 802.11g AirPort Express running firmware version 6.3.
Both our computers (MacBook & MacBook Pro) run Mac OS version 10.5.8.
In my system, the AirPort Express functions solely as a wireless speaker client, as the WLAN network itself is based around an 802.11n AirPort Extreme.
The AP shows a green light, and reports no problems in AP Utility.
When I change the device's "iTunes Speaker Password" setting in AP Utility, iTunes in both our computers immediately reflect the change, so apparently the various parts in the system do speak to one another just fine. They just can't transmit music, for some reason...
Anyone have any idea what might be going on, here?

I have a similar problem. I use AE(g) with a Powerbook G4 and always get this error, which kind of bugs me, since all the settings appear to be correct. Unlike you though, I didn't make it work, not a single time — closing lid, opening and closing iTunes, resetting AE, yet no luck. Tried it all only with current versions of software.
However, the AE does sense when I unplug the speakers, since it first says "no speakers found", and then "the network connection failed". Strange is that the error has no number, nor does Console provide any clues. Sometimes it is pretty annoying when OS X just says "error". What error, where, why... Feels like good ol' windows times.

  • AirTunes remote speaker menu not recognized in iTunes

When I first got my AirPort Express, I had no problems playing my iTunes music over stereo speakers connected to the AX. Now the Airtunes remote speaker menu does not show up in the lower right corner of iTunes. This problem started many months ago, around the time when I moved into a new apartment. Not sure how that would cause it, since I still had no trouble with internet access through the AX. At first, I tried to troubleshoot, but eventually just gave up on it. Now I've decided to give it another shot, but I've scoured the discussion forum for answers and found nothing that works.
Here's what I've tried so far:
I recently reset my AX multiple times (separate issue) and this did not do the trick. I have checked "Look for remote speakers" under the Advanced options in iTunes. I have set my ZoneAlarm firewall to "medium" setting (which is supposed to allow UDP port access), and even tried turning off the firewall altogether, then restarting iTunes. I have Symantec AV running, but I don't know of any options that would affect the port access. I have opened the AirPort Utility (v5.3.2) and noticed that the "Music" tab does not show up in the settings for my AX. It seems that other people who had the same problem as me were at least able to see the "Music" tab in the settings. Restarting my PC does not seem to help either.
BTW, I have iTunes version 7.7.1.11.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance!
    Dave
EDIT: I also tried "pinging" the IP address of the AX in cmd.exe and it showed me the few lines of code that it supposedly does when the AX is communicating with the PC properly.

  • Airtunes unable to find remote speaker

    Hi,
Ever since I upgraded to the latest version of Airport, iTunes always gives an error when starting up. The error is:
The remote speaker "WDS Remote" cannot be found on your network. Please verify
your network setting and AirTunes configuration or select another speaker from
the menu at the bottom of the iTunes window.
WDS Remote is the name of my Airport Express Base Station. Once iTunes finally starts I can then select WDS Remote as my destination for Airtunes, so I'm not missing any functionality. It's just a pain to get an error message that isn't really an error. Any ideas how to stop this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Thanks for the response. Repairing permissions doesn't fix the issue. And the Base Station doesn't appear in the Sound pane of System Preferences. I'm not sure that could be added.
Another data point: If I quit iTunes and then start it again soon afterwards, the error message doesn't appear. If I wait too long (and I'm not sure what "too long" means) the error message will reappear.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Remote Data Source Settings for Lotus Notes CWS

I have installed the Crawler Web Service for Lotus Notes on a box seperate from Machine hosting Portal Server. After that I did all the migrations successfully at the portal side as mentioned in installation guide. But while configuring Remote data Source ,in Authentication Page , i am not getting an edit box to specify the User ID file. Its just have edit box to specify password.
Its taking the last user id that was used in the Notes Client on that machine, or more specifically the KeyFilename setting in the Notes.ini file
How can i set the User ID File(to be considered).
    Moreover there is an error
An error occurred while validating the remote XUI service. Verify the Web Service settings, including the SOAP Encoding Style.
Can anybody provide pointers on configuring the Remote Data Source for Lotus Notes database
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
I would check this with the Lotus Notes guys. If the mail is OK in SOST, then SAP is delivering the mail correctly. There is something wrong with the Lotus Notes client itself. I have seen this same problem and I have alos witnessed the HTML email to crash the whole Lotus client. (This lead to a situation that it was just easier to send the plain text emails.)

  • Server settings for remote Server in Flash Builder 4.5 Premium

Has anyone figured this out? Seems like everyone is talking about FlashBuilder that comes with PHP and that doesn't help me. So I'm still having trouble moving my mobile app to a remote server and I have FlashBuilder 4.5 Premium without PHP.
I have created a PHP project outside of Flash Builder and then I have connected to it using the Data/Service tab, but then it ask for the server information and that is where I'm having the issues.
It works create with the setting like this.
    MAC:
    Server Options
    Web Root: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs
    Root URL: http://localhost/
But when you try to export a release build or just like to test it, and insert your server settings.
    Server Options
    Web Root: /home/username/domain_name/
    Root URL: http://mydomain.com
It doesn't Validate which in turn won't let the project work. Also it would be nice to put the remote server in there for testing instead of just for release builds. Any one have an answer. Every tutorial or explanation shows localhost.
    thanks

    Hello guys,
    I have found a solution: In ZendFramework/library/Zend/Amf/Response/Http.php  linenumber 59:
    $ssl = $_SERVER['HTTPS']; is given an error.
    I did this:
    $_SERVER['HTTPS'] = 'off';
    $ssl = $_SERVER['HTTPS'];
    So add this line....
    And it works...
Hope it works for you too.

  • Use Iphone as an speaker for airtunes

    Hi,
I would like to know if there is a possibility to use my IPhone as a speaker for airtunes, or if it is possible to build an IPhone app and get it into the store to do this?
I do not mind the lesser quality of the sound, just to enjoy my music from my IMac through airtunes from my IPhone speaker in my garden.
    Kind regards,
    Marc

Yes, Airfoil for Mac and Airfoil for Windows will do that. I am a happy user of Airfoil for Mac, it's fantastic!
But what I ask for is an application like that for iPhone/iPad.
Airfoil speakers for iPhone is the other way around, it's for sending audio to iPhone. Unfortunately, rogueamoeba is not able to make an app that sends audio from iPhone/iPad to airtunes, ref http://www.rogueamoeba.com/support/knowledgebase/?showArticle=AirfoilforiPhone
So it's up to Apple to give us this functionality, that IMHO is really strange they haven't included from the beginning. After all, all items involved are Apple products.

  • Firewall software & using a remote control for AirTunes?

I recently turned on the built-in firewall on my MacBook Pro. Ever since doing so, every time a run iTunes, get the following message:
Your computer is using firewall software that prevents
you from using a remote control for AirTunes.
To use a remote control for AirTunes, open System Preferences, click
Sharing, then click Firewall, and select "iTunes Music Sharing."
I always tell it to "Ignore" and I am able to play music through my AirPort Express without any trouble. What is the "remote control" to which this message is referring? I have searched Apple's support pages and this forum without any luck. I thought that opening the "iTunes Music Sharing" port in the firewall would allow other people on my local network to see my music if I was sharing it, which I am not. I don't see what this has to do with a remote control.
Thank you for any info you can provide.

    Hi,
there is no remote control for AirPortExpress or Air Tunes. Maybe we will see something like this in the futue, who knows.
As AirTunes uses streaming, it probabely needs the same port open as Music Sharing. Because shared music is streamed too.

This was solved by simply allowing "iTunes Music Sharing" in the Firewall tab of the Sharing preference pane.

  • AirTunes remote speaker doesn't appear in iTunes

Let's say you just bought an AirPort Express to wirelessly stream audio from your iTunes to your hifi, but after installation and network configuration, you're not seeing the remote speakers control at the bottom right of the iTunes window.
Well, in iTunes, Edit->Preferences->Devices, ensure you have checked the "Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes" icon.
(Mine wasn't checked by default and this isn't mentioned anywhere in the instructions. On the + side, I've been through the rest of my configuration a few times...)

Is there a software to emulate airtunes on a mac so my mac audio port behaves as a virtual remote speaker in iTunes? I have a network with several Macs and PCs so it would be fine if it exists...

If you share your iTunes then all PCs and Macs on a single network can access and play a single shared iTunes library on a single computer.
VNC/ARD can be used to remotely control the remote Mac/PC if required.
