Remote speakers appear but fail to connect

[Also posted in the AirPort for Windows discussion forum.]
I have had AirTunes running for over a year, requiring only the occasional reboot. We rely on it for music throughout the house. The setup:
wired LAN of multiple Windows XP Pro computers, Windows Firewall configured for iTunes and Bonjour and File Sharing ->
Linksys WRV54G router wirelessly connected to ->
AirPort Express (latest firmware update 6.3.0.1 didn't fix the problem) configured as a relay on the same wireless network.
The AE appropriately lights up steady green (or flashing amber when I reboot the router) and the remote speakers appear appropriately in the iTunes speaker menu (iTunes v 6.0.4.2). Obviously, the box to look for airtunes speakers is checked. Music plays out of my computer's speakers just fine.
THE PROBLEM IS that when I select the remote speakers I get the "Connecting to [remote speakers]" dialog, which ultimately times out in a failure, repeatedly. Ditto for checking the box next to the remote speakers when I select "multiple speakers."
I believe I checked internet access through a powerbook wired to the AE and that worked fine (powerbook ->wired to AE ->wireless to router ->to internet).
Anybody else with this problem recently? So many iTunes updates came out so quickly that I can't tell if this is the problem. Any ideas of what else to fiddle with?

I have been running into similiar issues with a few AirPort Express units I have put in for other folks lately in both MAC and PC networks.
AirPort Express units are all running version 6.2 firmware.
AirTunes works fine, then you can not longer connect to the remote speakers after some period of time. The AE has has a Green LED lit. Unplug the AE for 30 seconds and life is good, for a while.
I am planning on changing the AE from DCHP to a static IP address to see how things work.

  • Shared libraries appear but fail to connect.

On both my iMac and iBook I have installed Leopard and iPhoto 08. I have "look for shared photos" enabled on both computers. On either computer, the names of either library appear normally under "Shares" grouping in the left hand pane.
The problem occurs on my iMac when selecting the name of the iBook library, I will get the spinning beach-ball for a few moments before the name of the library disappears from the left hand pane. iPhoto does not crash or anything, the rest of the application continues to function as usual and I am getting no error messages or logs in the console. I do not have a password set for either shared library (although I did try putting one on just to test, no dice).
On both machines I have tried deleting iPhoto .plist files, restarted the applications, restarted the computers etc.
Oddly enough, sharing works perfectly going from iBook to iMac.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Any solutions outside of reinstalling iLife? do you even think that would even do the trick?
I don't think this is warrants a reinstall. I don't think that it will help because the issue is in this iMac library.
    Try
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Maybe there's a connection here ? ? Did you find out anything yet ?
I use a ZyXEL 600 series with wireless card @11Mbit as my ISP connection. Wired to my pc, and wireless to my wifes laptop. Seems to work fine to stream music on the PC to my Airport Express - didn't try the laptop yet.
BUT I have a very annoying problem. After exactly 80 minutes of streming, (timed it several times) the stream is cut off.
The connection to the AirPort Express is still intact at the IP-layer, as I can ping it and use the AirPort Admin Utility to reset it, and then bring the streem up again from iTunes.
Q: What is that all about ? is there a limitation built into iTunes ? (as I didn't exatly pay for it, but just downloaded a legal copy from Apple)

I'm at a loss. and I've googled my little heart out.  Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums - and thanks for a great initial post, all the needed information seems to be here.
Specifically, the following error from wpa_supplicant will most likely be best to dig into:
wlp3s0: failed to initialize driver interface
I see several results of this error in a google search, but none of them quickly translated into solutions yet.  To get some more information on it, could you run the same wpa_supplicant command, but with the verbose debugging flag "-dd" and post the ouput here?
I don't have a intel wireless card, so I don't know what the diagnostic signs are for the problem addressed in the wiki, but you may want to try the modprobe options shown in this section of the wiki.
EDIT: there is a similar but unresolved thread on these forums here which points to using the -D flag for wpa_supplicant to specify other drivers.  I was thinking this too upon my first reading, but I don't fully understand what these are so I was reluctant to suggest it.  It certainly can't hurt anything to use the command in the wiki to see which drivers are available, then try each one.
EDIT 2: and this thread seems to indicate that the -D flag driver specification is the right solution.  So start here with the -D flag and only if that fails follow up with my initial debugging suggestions.

  • Remote app on ipod fails to connect to itunes 10

After upgrading to iTunes 10, my remote app on the ipod touch 4G fails to connect. I've reauthorized, which times out most times, but eventually when it works, it only continues to connect to iTunes until I close and restart the program. I've disabled all firewalls and still have the issue. iTunes 10/iPod Touch 4G/iOS 4.1/ancient remote.app do not play well together.
Anyone else unable to get the remote app working reliably with this combination?

    Hello all,
I would like to get more details from people who are still having trouble getting Remote 2.0.1 to connect. If you are unable to connect, please email me <[email protected]> with the following information:
    - A detailed description of the specific issue you are seeing.
    - What OS is on the host computer? (the one with iTunes on it)
    - What OS is on the affected iOS device(s)?
    - A description of your network topology. Please be as detailed as you can, including hardware and firmware versions, if possible. Also please explain how everything is connected.
    - Is the base station running default settings, or do you have any non-standard settings enabled? If so, please elaborate.
    - Do you have the built-in firewall enabled on the host computer?
    - Do you have any other firewall or Internet protection (anti-virus, etc) installed on the host computer?
    - Were you able to connect with versions of Remote prior to 2.0?
    - If you have multiple computers, can you get Remote to connect to any of them?
    - Does Home Sharing work between computers on your network?
    - Do you see any messages in Console (in Applications/Utilities) on the host computer that seem to coincide with the connection failures?
    Thanks,
    Roy

I understand that 0x800706BA is RPC server unavailable, but I don't know how to fix it. I have done the following:
Ensured the SCCM server account is a local admin on the remote server
Ensured the Fire Wall service is not running on remote server
Tested with wmimgmt.msc and wbemtest, which worked fine.
Telneted on port 135 from site to server, which worked fine.
    IIS is installed, basic authentication...
I am at a loss. Any ideas?
    Ashley!

    Hi Ashley,
You can use Network Monitor and run it on the remote DP at the time ConfigMgr is attempting to install the DP role to capture more information on what may be causing the issue.

  • Can connect with AE but fail on connecting with internet

For some reasons I needed to re-conflict my AE and changed the wireless name. 2 of my Mac computer and my iTouch could connect with no problem. But my PC (XP2) could connect with this AE but failed on internet with error message "limited or not connectivity".
Had to Restore my PC one day back (using the System Restore), reset my AE to previous name. Now everything is ok ... what's the reason behind ???
    Thank you

I finally get the answer :-
The XP only works for WEP 128bit with 13 characters password and not 5 characters

  • I Have 15 inch G4 that can not acquire wireless net work, I can see other wireless but failes to connect

The air port is on and it is asking to join the network that is available, I type in the passcode and every time it comes back connection failed.
I havr trird the same set  up on manyn other of my apple devices, ( Ipad, Iphone 4 & 4S, Mac book pro 15" & 13" they all work fine with the same passcode)
I cant figure out why this power book is failing to connect to the wifi and or ethernet connection. I also tried to connect to a hard wire conection LAN and it still stated that it was not connected to the ethertnet.
    please help

Since it doesn't connect via wifi or ethernet, something is not setup correctly. Don't know if Safari in OS 10.5 works the same as Safari in OS 10.4, but open Safari. When Safari doesn't connect to the internet, you should get a message that will walk you thru the setup. Do this first when connected via ethernet.

  • RE: Remote Speakers Recognised But No Output ? Help ?

I have been using AE for at least the last 6 months without a problem. For no apparent reason I now get no output. Itunes seems fine as it plays ok through computer speakers. It seems the AE works in so far as it is recognised and a connection is made, but then the song just won't play. When I select a song the liitle speaker next to the song shows the little noise lines (as if about to start) then they disappear ? The time bar doesn't move/start either. Tried all the obvious stuff like resetting/reconfig. ? Any ideas very much appreciated.......

  • LT1423P (wireless) - Conneting but fails to connect

I've yet to have a stable connection my LT1423P for over a month now.  I raised a support case about not being able to connect to it via 5Ghz and was sent a replacement.  when I tried that one it also didn't connect at 5Ghz.  Since then, I can't connect at all via wireless!!
I just get Connecting... in the Lenovo control panel, the LT1423P connects, displays the screen (but not touch sensitive), then after about 10 to 15 seconds it disconnects, then reconnects, then disconnects etc.. for a few times, then no connection.
It works fine when connected via USB though, and it worked before I tried connecting via 5Ghz.
I've tried uninstalling everything and re-installing but still no luck (everything = Lenovo control panel, displaylink, RTLink wifi drivers) - I've even gone into device manager, shown hidden devices and deleted the ones that appear to be to do with Lenovo or RTLink.
Any ideas on how I can sanitise my system of all the Lenovo software (files, devices, drivers, registry etc..) so I can start again?  and before you suggest - NO, I'm not rebuilding or reinstalling or repairing my Windows 8.1 as there is far too much on it and I don't have the time to do that.
      Many thanks

    I got the problem too.
This comes from the fact the the monitor does not support recent DisplayLink drivers in wireless mode.
To use it in wireless mode, you have to stick with displaylink driver version 7.4 M4, and not above as far as I can tell.

  • HT5783 My MacBook Pro (Mid-2009) digital output has stopped working. It turns on the red light at the other side of the plug, but fails to connect with my receiver. Output from Airport works fine.

It was working fine until now, and now suddenly, the sound is gone. I've tried PRAM and SMC reset. Nothing works.
Using the same cable with my airport express, through airplay, the sound comes out fine.
It wasn't working when on Mavericks, nor now, on Yosemite.

    Hey marcalc,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with the digital output of your MacBook Pro. The following resource may provide a solution:
OS X Mavericks: If you can’t hear sound from your speakers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13841
If you’re trying to listen through a digital receiver
If you’re using your computer’s digital output port (not available on all computers), choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output. Make sure Digital Output is selected.
Make sure your computer is connected to a digital-ready receiver using an optical digital cable, and that your receiver is set up for digital input (see the information that came with your receiver).
Try adjusting the volume on your receiver. You can’t use the computer’s volume controls to adjust the volume while using digital output.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • HT201269 hello, i have a new i phone and required to connet but fail to connect please help

hi i have new phone and it is required to activate i tunes and other features

Wifi and 3G are totally separate. 3G is covered under your cell plan; data over wifi is always free. You can view and connect to wifi networks that are either open or that you know the password to, without cost to you.

  • Can't always connect to remote speakers since upgrading to lion

In one fell swoop I did a lot of upgrading, and ever since I haven't been able to reliably connect to any remote speakers using iTunes on my iMac.  From iTunes (or the Remote app on the phone or iPad) I can see remote speakers, but I cannot connect.  From iTunes, I just get the stripy progress bar, and it won't ever go away unless I cancel out.  From the remote app, it just becomes unrepsonsive.
    Context:
I have a iMac with OSX Lion, that I upgraded from Snow Leopard a few weeks ago. At about the same time, I updated iTunes to 10.5 from the last 10.4 release to be able to get the IOS 5 update on my and my wife's phones.
I have an Airport Extreme connected to our broadband, with 3 airport expresses in various places in our house connected on a wireless network to stereos for remote speakers.  The iMac is connected to the Airport Extreme via ethernet.  After upgrading the OS and iTunes, I got a notice that there was a firmware update for my two most recent airports (the Extreme and one of the expresses).  They are running version 7.6 of the firmware, the other two airports are running 6.3.
There has been no change to the physical environment -- no sources of interference or anything like that.  I can play music from the Music app on my phone to any of the remote speakers, there is no problem there.
About half the time, if I restart everything (wireless base stations, and then the computer) I can get the remote speakers to work.  However, the next time the computer wakes up from sleep mode, I have the same connection problem described above.
Has anyone else experiences these sorts of troubles?  I have seen some similar problems with older versions of all these applications and OS's -- and the solution there was to turn off ipV6 -- however, it doesn't look like that's an option now.  Is this an identified bug, and is there a fix on the way?  Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

Well, after some experimentation and internet-lookin', I deduced that is possibly a wi-fi problem.  It seems that many people are having wi-fi problems since upgrading to Lion, and although I'm not connecting directly to my wireless network, it does form a pretty big chunk of my setup describe above.
So I tried the fix outlined on OSX Daily here: http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/06/lion-wi-fi-problems-solution-mac/
Essentially what it has you do is to create a new network location, name it, and then renew your DHCP lease.  This seems to have worked for the time being.

  • Upgraded iTunes9 & Tiger and now can't choose remote speakers.  Help?

I've tried a number of things recommended online to use my remote speakers again, but nothing has worked yet. In iTunes, "Look for remote speakers" is checked in Preferences. I can see them, but they're greyed out and I can't select them. The internet connection works fine through the Airport. I've tried turning off firewall, rebooting and turning it on again. iTunes Music Sharing is checked on the firewall.
I solved a separate network glitch caused by the Tiger upgrade by turning IPv6 to off in System Preferences>Network.
