Remote sync of calendar

We were very disappointed that we were unable to remotely sync the ical calendar in iphone with ical on our home and work computers which we have been syncing for some years via .mac.
However we have a partial workaround using Google Calendar which is free and BusySync which we are still assessing on the 30 day free trial but seems worth every penny of it's license.
a couple of bonuses so far:
Google Calendar also works well on our office windows PC
BusySync can also sync ical between networked computers without having to involve .mac and the internet.
Phone numbers put in ical info come up as highlighted numbers in the info of Google Calendar and simply touching them will dial the number on the iphone. Really useful.
Downside: On the iphone, the Google Calendar seems to only display as a list of 2 days at a time. It will display a further 2 days and so on by clicking on an arrow. There doesn't seem to be a week or month display. However on a computer Google Calendar does have list, day, week and month display options. In fact apart from a lack of a to do section it is pretty good.....I still prefer ical though.

Well... When I look at the OS X Server Forums, then the tenor is getting louder, that the Mac OS X Server is a "toy" and not for use in companies... And you also say, that we should use an Microsoft Exchange Server instead of Apple own products... Hmmm.
Then why does Apple sell Server for Mac OS X ? Is it just for fun ? I don't think so.
But to have a serious product it would be helpful, when Apple would also think on the "naive ones" like me, who bought an Mac OS X Server for use as in small companies, and bring also real business functionalities to their Server products.
I don't like the Idea to have stored all my mails, contacts and calender events in a proprietary Microsoft format. It's a mess to come away from their data formats. And I also don't like the Idea to have Entourage as a Frontend for this MS solution(s).
But it seems (for me unfortunatly), that you are right. When I want to have a Server which has a lot of business features I need a Microsoft product.
However... I don't wanna whine here. So I'll still hope, that Apple will try to make it possible to use their business products in business environments.
Cheers, Daniel

  • Syncing Outlook Calendars and Contacts with iPhone - There is NO SOLUTION

I have searched the Apple support forums, Mac Forums, MS forums, spoken to Microsoft Support and iCloud support. Everybody says that there is no way to directly sync Outlook Calendars and Contacts with iPhone and other remote devices and nobody has a work around. I see 100s of forum threads started with this issue, most have no answer and the few that do are not offering solutions. I post this as a final effort to seek a solution! Who will be my savior? Or should I just admit defeat and allow myself to be cast aside in the battle between two giant corporate babies who don't like to play in the same sandbox?
Is my knight in shining armor out there?!

The information is correct, MS do not support the Dav standard in Outlook for Mac (but they do in Outlook for Windows), until they add support for it Calendars and Contacts will not work with Outlook for Mac.

    Hi ron1098,
Try my application Dates to iCal. it runs on the Mac, but you can sync the calendar to your iOS device.
See more about Dates to iCal here. It is £4 shareware with a 2 week demo.

  • Disappearing Contacts, Mobile Me Sync Issues, Calendar crash-Answers??

I'll try to keep this post brief but hopefully it will help provide some possible answers for frustrated users experiencing the random complete wipe out of all contacts and calendar data when syncing with mobile me using either push or fetch. After several weeks of experiencing these random sync issues and spending several hours over several days between tech support calls with iPhone then Mobile Me support and then finally a genius bar appointment where the genius said he didn't have a clue and simply offered to replace my phone.
The next morning, SAME PROBLEMS... and through it all NO ONE could tell me why my sync was so randomly unreliable. Every other day for no apparent reason, my phone would suddenly lose all contacts and/or calendar data. (A few thousand contacts and two years of calendar data). It was both frustrating and strange—even stranger that Apple techs had no clue why and seemed to think no one else was having this issue.
I tried everything - complete restores, resets, deleting and re-adding the mobileme account, etc., etc., etc. One tech support person finally said, "good luck..." The others kept handing me off the higher levels of support... until finally they just said "we don't know why this is happening." I was waiting for someone to just say, "Look, we have issues with mobile me, so hang in there and eventually it will work." I can be patient and I still think the iphone is the greatest invention in recent years. But everybody I talked with at Apple seemed to think this should be working flawlessly.
I also started having a crash on the calendar anytime I tried to see the list view for "all calendars." This was frustrating because that's the best feature of the calendar app!
I was prepared to just return to syncing with my computer and wait for the software to improve between the phone and mobile me. Finally, last night I tried a few things that seem to be working... and for the first full day, mobile me is actually useful to me today. (my fingers are crossed!)
    Here's what I did.
    1. I minimized the number of calendars I was syncing - I have no idea if this affected the sync, but I was syncing eight calendars, now I'm down to four. (You can easily export a calendar and import those events back into a different calendar.)
    2. I did a complete restore of the phone (not from a back up) and the VERY FIRST THING, I added mobile me and synced only the calendar (set to push.) This cleared up the random calendar crash in list view and also mobile me was pushing data rather reliably. After a few moments my entire calendar was on the phone and worked perfectly. New events were transferred quickly back and forth.
    3. I then chose to sync my contacts through the computer rather than over the air. I fear that the contact sync was somehow messing up the whole communication process between the phone and the cloud. Someone suggested that the number of "groups" in contacts might have an impact on the sync issues as well. I didn't need my contacts to sync with the urgency of "push" so this works for me. Plus I have a lot of contacts and it's just faster over the cable.
    4. I then GREATLY reduced the number of apps on my phone. I originally had about 27 and I only reinstalled 9 of them. I did this ONE AT A TIME - starting with the most necessary and useful... and after each install, I checked the functionality of the calendar and mobile me. No problems. Perhaps I was having an app conflict?
    5. Then I reinstalled the rest of my content - music, podcasts, photos. Still no problems.
ONE of these steps actually worked, and I'm not sure which one. My guess is that one or more of my apps was conflicting in some way. OR possibly something with the contact sync... but for the last 24 hours the mobile me calendar sync using push has been consistently reliable and useful. (for the record, mobile me email has always worked perfectly for me.)
No one with tech support ever suggested to me that I could be having an application conflict or any other problems with calendars or contact groups, etc. I've spent many hours on this the past few weeks... and for the first time, my iphone seems to be working with mobile me correctly.
In reading many of these posts, it seems a lot of others are having similar problems... so hopefully these suggestions might be helpful. If you have any thoughts as to which of these solutions was the correct one, I would be interested in hearing your opinion.
    Thanks!

Are your Address Book contacts and iCal calendars/calendar events on your Mac synced with your MobileMe online address book and calendar?
When you say this data is not synced with your iPhone, none of your MobileMe online data is transferred to your iPhone, or after the initial transfer of this data to your iPhone when you first turned contacts and calendars for over the air syncing with your MobileMe account on your iPhone, the data is not kept synchronized with the MobileMe "cloud"?

  • How can I sync only Calendars and Contacts on my work PC

Previous versions of the iCloud control panel allowed me to select separately which items I wanted to sync with a PC, Calendars, Contact, Email.
The new version of the control panel has this bundled as a single choice.
How can I eliminate incuding mail?
I am trying to use this on a work PC to keep calendars and contacts in sync, but cannot include iCould email.  If I cannot eliminate just the email will need to remove all syncing (defeating the purpose of the cloud).

You might wait until the next Mavericks to see if iTunes syncing for contacts and calendars is restored.  Otherwise, you can either install OS X server to restore local syncing (see https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x-server/id714547929), or start syncing your calendars and contacts with another service such as Google/Gmail.

  • How can I sync selected calendars?

I have a Mac at home and at work. The work machine is used by several people who maintain a single iCal for the office schedule.
I'd like to sync this calendar with my home Mac (so that I can work from home and add it to my iPhone) but I don't want my personal & private calendar details synching with the office Mac. Synching via .Mac appears to be an all-or-nothing system.
I've tried setting up some auto export of the office calendar (once per day would do) via mail but neither Automator nor Applescript seem to offer this function.
My only solution so far is to set up a new account at home, sync to that and then pass exports between the two user accounts. Shirley there must be a more elegant solution. Any ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
.Mac Sync synchronization is an all-or-nothing proposition. But, you're working way to hard to achieve your goal.
Instead of using .Mac Sync, consider BusySync to selectively share and synchronize iCal calendars across your subnet or the wider internet.

  • How can I sync Outlook Calendars on 2 PCs with my iPhone?

I have a PC at work and a PC at home ... both have MS Outlook 2007 running on them; I have an iPhone 3GS
I want to be able to sync the calendar from BOTH my PCs on to the iPhone and (therefore) with each other. However, I get a message on the second PC that I can't do this as it is only possible to sync calendars (and contacts by the way) with one PC. Is there any solution to this?
My music is happily synced only with my home PC - fully understand the issues that mean you can only sync those libraries with one PC.

    Hi,
you don't need MobileMe or anything fancy. I personally sync my Outlook calendar and my Outlook address book with three computers (two at the office and one at home)and besides I run Office 2003 on one, Office 2007 on the other and Office 2010 on the third, so it can't get more complicated than that, but it works 100%.
First sync Outlook with iTunes on one computer, having done that when you try to sync it to another machine, iTunes will recognize that it is synced with another computer and ask you if you want to merge the data, say yes, That's all there is to it.
It does not work for music as you rightly say but as far as Calendars and Contacts are concerned it's flawless and transparent.
If you hit a snag talk back to me.
    Cheers.

  • Issues Syncing Google Calendar with Palm Pre 2 WebOs 2.0.1 - Timezones...

I am using Google Calendar to synch my company Outlook to my Palm Pre 2. I note that there are some prior posts on Timezone challenges and have followed the advice provided to no benefit.
All my events are synchronizing  - however any recurring events not local to my timezone are not translating to my local timezone. So events scheduled by colleagues on the US West Coast are entered into my calendar at the time set ignoring the offset to my timezone (8 hours given that I'm in UK).
All events are properly reflected in Google Calendar it's the sync to my Pre which seems to corrupt (or more correctly not translate the time). Interestingly single events created by US colleagues are translated correctly.
Any suggestions as to how I can fix this??

How can i sync my calendar in Outlook 2007 with iTunes 11.1.3.8 WITHOUT using iCloud?

your link shows how to sync, i know how to do that.
i specifically wanted to sync my outlook calendar with my phone, not my outlook calendar with icloud calendar.
apparently you have to go into setup on phone and tell phone not to sync calendars with icloud so you can get choice to sync phone via itunes.
    thanks anyways for trying.

  • How can I sync my calendar form mac to iPhone without having to use iCloud?

There used to an option called sync calendar under the summary of your iPhone on iTunes, but I could no longer find that option. I wouldn't really want to sync my calendar using iCloud because my calendar on iCloud is blank and I don't really want to retype everything again. Or is there any way I can sync my current calendar on mac to the one on iCloud?

I read the title. It has nothing to do with what the OP is really wants.
When replying in a helpful manner, one needs to read everything (the title and the entire post) and make an attempt to understand what they want.
The OP does not want to lose the library on the computer.
I will repeat it for you...
"I wouldn't really want to sync my calendar using iCloud because my calendar on iCloud is blank and I don't really want to retype everything again."
This line shows the OP does not understand how it works and also shows that the thread title is not really what the OP wants.
    gumsie wrote:
The post I've linked to tells him how to use a server to do it. Read that entire post too.
Why would the OP use a server when the OP is fine using iCloud to sync?
Indeed, the OP asks (in the same post even) how to sync using iCloud (which is in direct conflict with the thread title).
"is there any way I can sync my current calendar on mac to the one on iCloud?"

  • How can I sync my calendar from microsoft outlook 2003 to my Ipad2

Hi Just purchsed an Ipad 2 and would like to sync my desk top calendar Microwsoft Outlook 2003 to my Ipad 2 is there an easy way of doing it for some one with limited experience!!

Presuming you sync to the computer that that calendar is on:
Hook your iPad up to your computer and open iTunes.
CLick on the name of your iPad (if you don't see the sidebar, the windows shortcut of 'control S' will bring that sidebar up.
Navigate to the Info tab in iTUnes
Scroll down to see the outlook syncing options. One of them will be to sync the calendar.
Click that and then sync and your calendar should sync over.
If your situation is like mine, where I want to put my work calendar on mypersonal iPad, I will export that calendar from my work computer, import it into my personal computer then do the syncing.

  • About sync multiple calendar to outlook

I would like to ask the result of sync multiple calendar from iPhone IOS 6.x to outlook issue.
Our users are using Outlook 2010 and had a primary mailbox for their own mailbox, and a shared mailbox for the Shared Calendar issue.
The iPhone had multiple Calendar there, if the user use itune to sync the calendar to Outlook 2010:
Will the multiple calendar combine into one calendar in Outlook 2010 and classified by Categories?
Which Outlook calendar will the iPhone calendars sync to Outlook 2010? Sync only to Primary mailbox or to both Primary mailbox and the shared caolendar?
On the other hand, as the Outlook 2010 has a primary mailbox and a shared mailbox, how would itune handle to sync the calendar to iPhone?
    Please kindly help.

    Hello littleoski,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning backing up data:
